Feeddler RSS News Reader for Negative User Reviews

CheekI paid for this when it was the pro version. When it started crashing continually after the iOS8 update I came on to see if it was going to be updated in turn. It seems that instead of updating the developers have created a NEW pro version (pro 2) - the full featured version needs to be paid for. I already paid for the pro version. I will not be buying it again..Version: 3.1

Yeah, it works, but...No offline support: if the service is offline (like OldReader has been on and off recently) there's no recovery, just "Error". Feeds take ages to load and sometimes just fail to do so; tapping the feed again will retry with no problem the next time. But the ADS always work! Mystery Meat Navigation: there's no browser back button until you have browser history, and no forward button till you use said back button. And those buttons are easily confused with the feed back and forward buttons. Clunky Ui: the interface just isn't as elegant as the app I had before (which unfortunately became abandonware and still only used google reader). There's no immediate feedback that clicking a link is now loading the page; you just have to wait for the internet to respond, which can take forever sometimes even on good internet connections. And the Ads get annoying... Especially since they take up what feels like a third of the screen space in landscape mode. But that's ok, because it just means it motivates me to work on my replacement app for myself..Version: 2.1

Works well, but buggy.Works very well with Google Reader. I hope it keeps up with Google's features. There's a bug that causes screens to render very slowly with all of the page elements "growing" from the top left corner. It requires the app be killed before it works again. With new releases, the bugs seem to be getting worse..Version: 1.12.5

Keeps logging me outConstantly getting an error and it logs me out of my google account. Very frustrating..Version: 4.2

Requires external accountNever got past the initial requirement to sign into an external newsfeed account. I don't have one and will not use a program that requires you to have one. Don't use if you're looking for simple rss reader.Version: 2.4

AwfulI'm sorry, but this is an awful app. After months of use, here's a few reasons out of a dozen I could name: 1) Pinch-zoom zooms the text font-size and does not zoom images. WTF? This is so counter-intuitive to expected iOS behaviour. What's more, it's super buggy. A lot of times it will "remember" the zoomed-in state and refuse to let you zoom back out, even after exiting the app. Awful. At least have an option in the settings to enable a classic slate zoom mode. 2) There is something fishy with the UI. After a while, all the UI elements in the app begin to do this bizarre Quartz slide effect, like it's on an acid trip. It's really irritating and makes using the app a pain. I have not seen any other app behave this way. 3) Lack of custom feed icons - they all just show as stock orange RSS icons. MobileRSS was able to display the individual feed icons in the Subscriptions list. 4) Lack of image preview while surfing article lists. Again, MobileRSS had this as standard. 5) The option to toggle Show All / Show Unread Only for the Subscription list is in the app settings, whereas for individual article lists this toggle is on the app's top toolbar. This is inconsistent, confusing, and just bad User Interface karma. MobileRSS was 10 times better than this, until they decided to stop updating it. And based on this experience, I have no intention of buying the paid version of Feeddler..Version: 1.11

Not keeping upDespite the rigamarole of signing up (& paying for) a third party feed service and then paying *again* for this app I was disappointed. This app was ok 5 years ago but it's clumsy by comparison to modern apps. Feed discovery? Forget it. You need to open a web browser, find, copy & paste the URLs. It has nice mobilised view. Don't waste your money..Version: 3.2

Bait and switchInitially the app description didn't mention that the app would expire after a certain number of days. I got a message today that informs me that I need to buy some "pro" version if I want to keep sync functionality. No thanks. I'd rather have an app that is up front with it's fees instead of trying to pull this cr@p on users. Uninstall... *Update* Version 1.4 - So they replaced the "Sync" button to a "Pro" button to more effectively communicate that there is a paid version that will provide global sync capabilities. Overall this is a decent RSS reader but instead of giving my $4.99 to Feeddler, I think I'll pass that money onto Reeder instead. Much better app for reading feeds in a simple and elegant UI. if you are considering paying for the "Pro" version of Feeddler, I recommend first looking into Reeder. *Update* 1.5 The only thing this app has going for it is that it is universal. Other than that I would rather pay for two separate Reeder apps. If you are even considering this do yourself a favor and do a search for Reeder, it is by far the best RSS reader on the iOS platform..Version: 0

Doesn't support other sign inAOL reader supports signing in with twitter, Facebook and Google accounts, why does this app not?.Version: 2.3

GarbageBeen using this paid app for over 8 years. At one time, it was the best rss reader out there. No longer the case. The ability to read the full text of an article no longer functions anymore. If you want to view the full text of an article, you’re forced to use the web view, instead. And, the web view is full of annoying ads and pop ups all over the place. Fortunately, Newsify RSS Reader, to the rescue. Newsify is now my goto rss reader. Feeddler is garbage..Version: 4.3

Still has Korda bugsConstantly crashes!.Version: 1.11

Unable to log in after updateUpdate broke the app. No response from support. Unable to login. Goes back to account selection of trying to use google to log in..Version: 5.0

Want to like it, but crashes on me a lotI continue my search for a decent RSS reader, I use MobileRSS Pro on the iPhone and wish they would do an iPad version. I tried feeddler and really wanted to like it enough to buy the better version but it crashes on me a lot when navigating via the left panel, and for some reason my starred items never seems to update? I have no starred items on Google ( having read them all and un-starred ) and it still will not remove them when performing sync, even having forced it manually many times. Make it reliable with sync and fix the crashes and you would have a good app..Version: 0

Cannot log inThe app doesn't play nicely with iOS 12's third-party password management changes. Whenever I select to use my password manager to log into my Google account, I get booted back to the account selection screen..Version: 4.3

Poor ad integrationI know, you aren't supposed to complain about the ads on a "free" app. But they are so poorly done that they're making me look elsewhere rather than cough up to "support this developer." He gets paid whichever version I use (ad revenue or share of purchase price), so why should the ad-supported version make the app unusable? What I'm talking about is the size, placement, and animations of the ads that do two things: (1) There is an annoying jump in the article list when the ad box rolls over, making you have to re-scroll back to where you were each time. (2) I doubt I'm the only one who finds it literally impossible to read the full body of an article within the app, except possibly by putting a piece of paper over the ads. The human eye just can't read text when there is a nearby colored animation drawing attention away every few seconds. Find the article in Feeddler and then have to switch to Safari to actually read it? Not very productive. I can understand giving away a preview version of an app for free so people can decide whether to buy the "pro" version. But using a revenue stream, the ads, to cripple the demo version seems wrong to me, and makes me not want to support the developer. Oh, and except for the fact that the ad implementation makes it useless, the underlying app seems to have been done pretty well..Version: 1.10

Requires an AccountMaybe this is a good app, maybe it isn't. I will never know as the first time you load it up, it demands credentials for services I have never heard of. Why on earth do you need to login to an RSS reader? I don't understand this at all. If I know the URLs to the feeds that I want to follow, why can't I just enter those into the app directly? Well, I hope someone is happy with this app. I will have to give it a pass..Version: 2.0.1

Not the reader for meThis Reader, like so many others, does not handle images the way I want them to be handled. I read a number of comic strips and want to be able to expand them to the point of frame by frame so I can read the dialogue. This Reader auto scales the strip to the orientation of the iPhone screen and does not allow me to scale manually..Version: 0

CrashyIt has a good UI but IMO the google reader website is better. Also this is a bit crashy on an iPod touch 2g..Version: 0

Disappointing updateBefore the update today the app was easily a 5 star free rss reader but it's added ads and has lost clarity in it's ui makeover. I don't know how to like within google or what the star, dot or rss icon do with a feed I'm viewing. In the attempt to make the ui more streamlined I think it lost predictability..Version: 0

Need some clarification on future directionI absolutely LOVE this google reader client and of the half dozen or more clients I have tried this has risen to the top. After about 1.5 years of using this I can't imagine reading RSS feeds without it. I am very concerned though about the lack of updates (none in 2013 so far) and silence about the impending shutdown of google reader services which this is dependent upon. My fear is this will cease to work on July 1 and I will have to use another client (feedly *shudder*). Can we PLEASE get some clarification and better yet an update, that will use feedly or digg back-end for storing feeds and read status so we can keep using this client?.Version: 1.12.5

Account to google doesn't workThe log in to my google account doesn't work (I have security login on). Disappointing..Version: 1.12.5

Requires google loginI just want an rss feed reader! The description made it sound like it was one. But won't start without google account..Version: 1.11

Good but...Simple to use when it works - which is most of the time. However, the main section on the right showing article titles often freezes. I can still select a different blog from my blog list and access articles 'blindly' by clicking on the frozen titles. Switching my iPad 2 off and on resolves the problem - but it's not ideal, is it? This is a bug fix away from being a 5 star app..Version: 1.11

GreatJob.Version: 1.12.5

Doesn't work for my needsDoesn't seem respect the option to open an article in full text mode. Always opens it in rss mode and it usually results in a 404 error. Have to manually click on the reading mode button. Fine if you subscribe to only one feed with a handful if articles. Not so much if you have hundreds. Will be uninstalling it..Version: 2.4

Crash-proneI like this app a lot as it's simple and syncs well. Easy to expand items within the app. I found that mobilerss didn't allow me to enter specific URLs, meaning many feeds were unavailable through their search function. I'd rather lose the search function and gain ability to enter URL! Unfortunately I find that feeddler crashes a lot when it tries to download items whilst viewing a feed. This usually happens if you navigate away from the app, then reopen to pick up the feed where you left off. It tries to sync and then crashes. Shame, as it's the only drawback..Version: 0

GoodMuch slower than Feedly but we can adjust the font size. I am torn between the two..Version: 2.1

Constantly crashingIt used to be one of my favourite apps, but it's constantly crashing on iOS 8.1.1. I'll be halfway through reading an article and the app will crash for no apparent reason..Version: 3.1

Can't add a feedly account with a google loginIf you try to add your feedly account and use Google to authenticate, you get a 403 error because google doesn't allow embedded authentication..Version: 3.7

Updates mean you have to pay again (as well as other probs)When I first got this it was excellent………BUT!.Version: 5.2.1

Missing out.I seem to have let the whole rss thing pass me by. This app is very neat and works really well. The ads are pain but for £2.99 you can go pro and get them removed. Pro also includes Twitter integration. I may be tempted to part with my hard earned if I get the rss bug. So far so good. I like, a lot. Good work people. Update. Knocking two stars off as often the pages don't load. And no, it's not my connection. Also I'm not sure about this whole giving up my gmail info. It doesn't sit comfortably with me. Neil..Version: 1.11

Crashing or articles are “null”Paid money for the Pro version, and now it isn’t working. Not impressed..Version: 4.1

Why do I need an account?Did someone miss the point of RSS feeds? There seems to be no way to get started without an account with some RSS service. That’s not how RSS feeds were designed to work!.Version: 5.2.1

Best one so far, with room for improvementI like a lot about this (switched from online use of Google Reader and use of NetNewsWire on the iPhone) but it's got some room to improve. The sync reliability has been spotty, as NetNewsWire on the Mac and Google Reader online often show different unread counts and indicators than does Feeddler. I'd also like to see an indication of read/unread counts while looking at articles in a subscription feed, and a "next unread" option would be great. That said, this tromps the current version of NetNewsWire on the iPhone into the ground, and I'm generally quite pleased..Version: 0

Rss googler...Buggy. why tie it to google?.Version: 1.11

Pretty goodWorks well. Reliable. Seems not to have a 'background' process to update feeds and notify when new items arrive. Must manually check by opening the app. Handling of images in feeds could be improved by allowing zoom/full screen - one of my feeds has images which I can only see fully on the iPad app..Version: 1.11

Good readerEasy to use, but crashes occasionally. Great for keeping me informed while I commute..Version: 1.11

Fell For It AgainLove this app and use it everyday but every time a new version comes out there are always issues logging in. I really must stop downloading updates for several days until it’s fixed each time..Version: 5.0

Bandwidth HogI started tracking my bandwidth usage because I was hitting my provider's monthly cap. Turns out this app (and its use of the iAd) generates a lot of download. I tried reducing the update period and limiting the media download within the app, but still it was a hog. So I deleted it, switched to a competitor and now my bandwidth usage is much lower..Version: 1.12.5

RSS is open, so why make me log in?This isn’t so much an rss reader as it is a data-mining tool. It forces you to use one of several cloud based news readers to view content. That’s all and fine for some, but to be forced to do so is pretty unappealing for privacy minded folks..Version: 4.2

Crashes...This app is great when it works, a very easy way to manage your google reader feeds. Where it all falls down is when it crashes. I still haven't figured out what's causing it but it happens almost every time I use the app. A restart tends to fix it most times but the developers need to do more testing..Version: 1.11

Nul ;(Surtout ne pas télécharger !.Version: 2.3

Must log inWhy can't they make an app anymore where you don't have to log in..Version: 1.12.5

Latest updateKeeps reloading the same content over and over..Version: 4.2

Functional but unpolishedIt does everything I would want, but frequently locks up for a few seconds, handles bad connection poorly (goes to login page when internet drops out), swipe gesture is not animated and easy to do accidentally, article doesn’t load if close gesture is started and not completed.Version: 4.3

Not working nowThis worked good for a few months, now it's having issues every day. You need to be signed up through a variety of sites for this app to work, if that site goes down so does the functionality of this app. Save your money and find an app that isn't loading your list of feeds from one site..Version: 3.2
