PrintCentral for Negative User Reviews

Doesn't work for lexmark printersI purchased this app after reading favourable reviews. But be aware that it doesn't work with many models of lexmark printers. I don't have a mac or a pc so can't use weprint. The "works with most printers" is very misleading! I contacted the help line who basically said tough, I'll have to wait until their development team get round to dealing with lexmark printer issues. They then informed me that this could take weeks or months. Gee thanks So avoid if you own a lexmark printer because its proven to be a complete waste of time and money..Version: 3.0

It does work... eventuallyNot simple to use as you cannot print directly from Pages or Numbers. The app requires you to be able to email the document to yourself on your ipad first, and then open the attached document in Print Central. A long slow process, and it would be faster to simply email it to my desktop or use dropbox to print it directly from my desktop. A waste of $10. Description was very misleading..Version: 1.8.5

Awful! What a waste of $10. All the raters must work for the company. I can't think of a more cumbersome way to print. Email it to yourself. The app loads another email program and practically another browser on your iPad. When printing large documents, it doesn't scale. It doesn't even try to print on a second sheet of paper if the image doesn't fit on the first. Secondly they want you to add another app on your main computer and leave the computer on as a server. If I wanted the other computer turned-on, I'd print from it! I removed it. Using the print a single page option (ie...page 6 and 7) doesn't work at all. Sends out blank paper. What they don't tell you is you can't print from Pages, Numbers, etc, without a MobileMe account. Steve Job was right...most apps that come through the store don't work. This one slipped by..Version: 0

1Don't buy this app. It wants you to install software on your computer to work. It doesn't print directly and the support, although fast response, just advises to install software to relay the print jobs to the printer. A waste of 12 bucks!.Version: 1.8.5

I want my money backI have never been so disappointed.Version: 3.4.3

Does not work (for me)I cannot make this software work - I have tried a variety of printers and it just spews garbage. I regret this purchase..Version: 0

Waste of ten bucksComplex, difficult to use. Would not connect with printers via wifi / 3G at all, even after downloading further software the program suggested I needed.... V disappointed.Version: 2.3

Waste of Time and Money -- wait for iOS4This App is a prime example as to why all Apps over, say, 99p should have a Try-Before-You-Buy version. I read all the specs, web pages, reviews etc, and the consensus was that this was the best printing App available, so I bought it. But then I discovered that it doesn't work properly with my AirPort Express and HP printer (not even basic text mode). It recommends that I set up a Server, which kind of defeats the whole point of it!! I’m sure it works fine for some users, but for me it was a waste of six quid. It is unfortunate that Apple don’t have a refund system for unusable Apps. I will now wait for iOS4, which comes out soon - then we will all have proper printing..Version: 0

Good but email could be betterThis app works fine in terms of printing with my cannon pixima, direct wifi is poor quality but with we print it is fine. The email side of the app works but to me is very confusing, Forward mail from one of the icons does not work, and other icons have little indication of what they do. A key might be useful. Be great if you could improve the email and perhaps also have all message regardless of account in one display..Version: 0

Not Exactly What I Was Looking ForVery highly reviewed but frankly I find the interface not all that intuitive and the print quality is poor. It seems to have a lot of capability but there is a learning curve, some set up required, and I guess it will do a lot of different things. What I wanted was a simple app that could access Dropbox and that I could do a direct print from iPad applications. The Dropbox setup is very straightforward, the app easily found my Canon MG8170 printer, and I can print from the iPad. However, for some apps the process seems a bit more convoluted than necessary. This is an initial review, maybe my rating will go up after I've used it a while and got it all figured out. The big negative however is the poor print quality unless there is a way around this that I've yet to discover..Version: 2.2

Didn't WorkApp identified and connected to printer but all I could print was blank pieces of paper. First trouble shooting action was to download an app for my pc/mac. One bad app wasn't enough? Wasted time and money. :( camper! Apparently an app cannot be rated as zero!.Version: 2.4

You have to be kidding......Doesn't work with 3 different HP printers unless going through a print server. It's a garbage program and a rip off. Where is the list of compatible printers? It's probably half dozen printers at best. It gets 1 star because I have to. Zero stars is more like it..Version: 2.7

Too confusingI quit trying to figure it out, despite receiving support. Maybe someday when I have more time..Version: 3.2

Would be 5 if I wasn't forced to rateI loved this App until recently. Now when I open it it puts up a popup window to rate the app, and I can find no way to actually use the app without rating it. It makes me really angry. It's my business which apps I rate, and above all, when I rate them. Completely blocking the app until I rate it certainly isn't going to raise the rating. I'm not going to give it one star for that, since this is in fact a very good program that manages to properly print files that print incorrectly in other apps. It also supports a lot of file types, and so doubles as an excellent viewer. It directly supports archives, too, although it fails on some of those, as do most Apps (for that, Unarchiver is king). But blocking app functionality until I rate is really unacceptable to me. An app that tries to tell me what to do when? No thanks..Version: 2.2

DisappointedI bought this app a few months ago and was over the moon that I could print from my iPad. However, I tried to print a few days ago (for the first time since initially, successfully printing a few weeks ago) to find that my iPad could not find my printer. After much googling and hair-pulling, and many wasted hours, I discovered that the ability to print from a web browser had been taken away. Now, in order to print, the document must be opened in Print Central. What a pain in the proverbial! I am not technical at all, and am pretty annoyed with the lack of clarity on this matter. OK, I am still able to print, if I faff around a little, but clearer instructions would be helpful! This is no longer the same app that I paid for. :~(.Version: 1.8.5

Cumbersome and UglyIPad: Doesn't integrate with apps as expected. Won't print complex webpages or webpage pop ups e.g. image zoom, overlay windows. No print options from Google or Safari to simplify pages or ignore background images or print selection. Can't print directly from any app. Requires (yet another) app on your Mac. Disappointed..Version: 3.4.3

No Way, no way, no way£6 wasted, another 3-4 hours trying to set it up wasted, no support at all, all the links for the online assistance on their website won't work. My Printer is Lexmark with Wi-Fi and installed the WePrint too, no way it works. The Printer is on different IP and WePrint is trying to print via PC on different IP address. When I bought this it says all Printers but funny enough Lexmark is not in that list of printers and I didn't want to use WePrint on first place, I wanted to print directly via my iPad not using the PC. Clever way of ripping you off..Version: 1.8

UninstalledSorry. Too many hoops to jump through to do something as simple as printing. Not the app developer's fault. I bought a brand new iPad today and somehow hoped printing had been improved. It hasn't. I love the iPad and despise its inability to print..Version: 4.4.2

UselessDont waste your time. Might work if you are an Apple developer/programmer but utterly useless and impossible to setup. 50 blank or black pages and a printer cartridge poorer I give up. Regards iPad user....Version: 4.4.4

MatIt's ok and seems to work... The first time I printed though I couldn't get it to stop so I pulled the power cord on the printer...Version: 1.8.5

ComplicatedHmmm. Not what I expected. Have to copy and paste into Print Central, or, ignore regular email and web sites, and only open them in Print Central. Fiddly and complicated. Easier to go buy an AirPrinter..Version: 2.2

Can not print wifi from appsBefore iOS update I could print from safari, pages numbers and email programs, now I am unable to print unless I am printing from within print app? Any solution to this issue much liked. I have we print installed on main computer.Version: 2.0.2

Terrible App / Generalized SupportI bought this app this evening hoping to find a quick solution to my wife having left on business and taking our only computer with her. To my surprise I found printing capable applications that would allow my iPad 2 to print to my wi-fi printer (Kodak 2150). After logging into the app and getting all of the email accounts linked, the first thing I noticed was that the application wasn't importing all of my emails within my accounts. Second, when trying to print the printer was discovered but it would always say either printer is busy or it would actually say 'printing' but the printer and iPad would just fall asleep and nothing would print. I let it sit a good 45 minutes at one point and neither of the devices budged. Third thing is that support for this app, though quick, was so generalized and no specific to the portable devices that I got lost, confused, and gave up... not a good investment. There goes food for my kids, spent on my kids Thanks, Joe.Version: 2.7

Read description carefullyI had held off purchasing any app to use with my iPad for the purpose of printing to my HP P1006 Laserjet via my airport express and wifi. I didn't see a need initially. It got to the point where I needed that capability and based on the outstanding reviews, I purchased this product. It doesn't work. I did receive an immediate response from their support folks which is exceptional. The only alternative I have is to keep my MacBook Pro powered on and utilize their free downloadable print server application, but if I have to have my notebook powered on, I may just as well use it rather than my iPad. I would suggest, if you have a similar network printer that you contact their tech support prior to buying the app to see if it is supported. If it is, go for it; otherwise pass unless you have a dedicated Mac server which you leaving running all of the time..Version: 2.0.3

Trop cher pour un app qui n'a pas réglé mon problèmeJ'aimerais être remboursé..Version: 2.7

Does not support Apple Airport/Time Capsule USB printersI bought this app for the sole purpose of printing to my printer connected to my Time Capsule that any computer on my network can print to. I was very sad to find out that it is not compatible :( I contacted support via email which responded very quickly (within half an hour), but with a canned answer that didn't even address my problem. A quick reply back to them brought another response pretty much telling me it doesn't support my setup. I am not very happy that I am out $10 on an app that doesn't do the only thing I purchased it for. If you want to plug your printer into a computer on your network, and open it up to your iPad/iphone… go for it. They have a software that you have to install, and it should work fine. Just don't expect it to see your Airport USB printer :(.Version: 2.0.2

Good but...Good but the compatibility is not quite well, more the half of the time it's too small or it's not compatible, it not worth this price for sure..Version: 3.0

TOO COMPLICATED AND DOESNT WORKI thought this would be the answer to not having to buy a new printer for my iPad. It is far too complicated to get to work, and you have to have a degree in computer science in order to get it installed in the first place, then you have to have another application installed if your printer is not recognised by the application and then it just mucks up your printer's settings. I have spent over 2 hours trying to get it to work! A waste of money - just go out and buy an new printer!.Version: 2.0.2

Major disappointment if you own a lexmarkPoor choice for lexmark.Version: 0

DisappointingPrinting without the WePrint server installed on your mac ... works, but... Print is very small and only uses a small portion of the middle of the page. Pretty disappointing. Printing with WePrint installed works well. Having another e-mail client inside PrintCentral, in addition to the e-mail client that comes with the iPad seems clumsy. Summary - works but disappointing..Version: 0

Doesn't workTotal scam. Won't print from my iPad or iPhones to my brother printer. Total rip off I lost 9 bucks.Version: 2.4

FredpaulApp did not work at all. My iPad and printer were wireless and both on WiFi. Kept showing “No AirPrint Printers “. After trying different things, gave up and deleted the App. Waste of money..Version: 4.2.2

Print CentralHave had Print Central as an App on iPad for some time while searching for a reliable vehicle to be able to print to a number of printers in different locations. While iCloud print has been unreliable , often can't recognise printer, Print Central appears to be able to break through problem barriers and connect!.Version: 3.4.3

Interesting, but ClunkyAfter working with this for a while, I found that is interesting, but clunky. It's ability to connect to servers offers a very clunky setup. The developers need to take a look at the Air Sharing app to see how it really should be done. Connecting printers works well, but only after installing their app on a computer to which the printers are connected. Again, they need to look at Air Sharing to see how it really should be done. The one thing they really have on Air Sharing is the ability to print from web pages, especially when printing from a web page link in email. This will be the only thing for which I will be using this app. Air Sharing does everything else so much better..Version: 0

Limited functionalityI expected that my non AirPrint printer would appear in the list under all application print menus but it doesn't work like that. You actually have to print everything through this application. This can involve copying content using the clipboard. It does have some clever workarounds for the iPad restrictions. Good 24/7 support..Version: 2.7

Not impressedDoesn't work with Cannon MG 3160 wireless printer, this is the most $ i've ever spent on an app and what a waste! The App is not user friendly as it states, they offer another download option Weprint but this requires you to have your PC on so it can relay the document through it to the printer, isn't the whole point being able to print straight From Ipad without turning on your PC! disappointed....Version: 2.2

Not worth it for occasional printing, good if you absolutely must print from iPad.This is an interesting patch for the lack of printing capabilities on the iPad however, it is at heart a work-around and feels like that. While it does deliver print capabilities to the iPad (iPhone/iPod too), it still relies on routing through your PC or Mac to print and does require some getting used to. I'm technical by profession and this took about 15 minutes to setup, when I tried to explain it to my significant other, she lost interest and proclaimed that it would be easier to just use the main computer. Apple designs products to make our lives easier and they missed the boat on printing via the iPad, this tool tries to fill the gap but the numerous hurdles to configure and steps to actually use it don't make me feel like I'm using an Apple product anymore. To print I need to send documents to the app then pick my settings and make sure my computer is turned on to forward it to the printer, forget about trying to print an online confirmation from a website (i.e. reciepts/boarding passes), again too much fuss and it still gave me issues with formating. I have better uses for my time than remembering how to print, I just want to print when I need to. Overall, this is a good attempt by the developer to pick up where Apple left off and useful if you really need it but otherwise it's really more effort than it's worth. I give it only 2 stars becuase of useability..Version: 0

No printImpossible d'imprimer c'est de l'argent à l'eau! Impossible to print with my wifi printer $$$flush.Version: 2.4

Not GoodSimply does not work very well. Tried through Mac Airport network. First through PC host then through Mac host. Neither formatted documents as they looked on screen. Pages are too small, not centered, text too small, text cut off, etc, etc. Tried PDF & Doc versions, neither worked very well. Had to open documents in Pages, upload to iDisk, then download and open in Printcentral to convert to other formats. Too much hassle for too much money. Really liked the idea, was eager, but does NOT deliver. And, very annoying that it won't print Pages documents without being converted!!! Possibly an Apple limitation. Don't buy unless drastic changes are made..Version: 1.7.2

Seems good, doesn't work as promisedOne of the most expensive and disappointing apps I have purchased. The description makes it seem as though you can just open a doc on your iPad and print it, but there are several other steps that need to be taken. A fiddly app, which could be a lot better… Apple take note, misleading product description here?.Version: 1.8.5

Mostly Redundant. Don't spend money on this!If your looking to print from your iOS device to a printer that isn't airplay compatible or over 3G/4G don't get stung by the reviews of this app on the net! Simply set up google cloud print and install google drive on your iOS device. Then from whatever app your in, share the doc, PDF, photo, etc to the drive app and save it to your preferred location. Then open the drive app, select your saved item and select print > google cloud print. Done. Unfortunately I only discovered this after I had paid £3.99 for this crraap that looks like it was developed as a kindergarten project!.Version: 4.0

Expensive ASCII HeiroglyphicsNice $9 printer if ASCII hieroglyphics are what you want. And runs all the paper from your printer with ASCII characters till the paper tray is empty. I should have spent the $9 on lottery tickets for a bigger bang for the buck. Update: Hmmmm, the printer gods banished the hieroglyphs with an update. I deleted this app a week ago and moved on looking for new AirPrint compatible Inkjet printer. "Update All" of my apps with revisions apparently put this app back on my iPad . I opened it & it found my wifi printer. While its not as transparent as a print driver that prints whatever is onscreen directly, it can print a photo imported into this app. Pasting the URL for a website also printed it as on screen. Why the heck didn't it do this the first time I bought & installed it? Anyway it works now so I'm upping my review to 4 stars. I would be highly irked if I proceeded with a new Airprint printer purchase yesterday. Caught a break for once!.Version: 2.1

Don’t buyThis app is definitely not worth it. There is really no point. Also after I deleted it, the app still wants me to update!!!!.Version: 4.2

Works OK with English, but not Japanese..Needed to print Mail contents from iPad. Downloaded this app, setup the mail, and print... English messages are worked OK, but Japanese words are turned into weird characters. It seems like can't fix it without downloading the other soft + go through complicated setup. Big disappointment. Should not have bought it. 日本語ユーザーの人は、メイルのプリントが文字化けする可能性があるので気をつけてください。.Version: 2.0.2

So far so goodBit klunky but is printing directly from iPad to canon mx870, reasonably easy basic set up. Plenty more features to look at so hopefully printing will improve to same standard as pc..Version: 2.0.3

WARNING.... this app is not for everyoneThe reviews tell the story. almost 50% gave it a minimum rating. I am giving this a single star, but may have given it 2 stars at best if the support staff were more supportive!!! I contacted them 3 times and FINALLY got beyond the cut and paste responses when they actually read my query, only to tell me to seek a refund. If you run a print server that ISNT on a PC or MAC - then forget it (or at least the support guys I contacted x3 of them didnt know how!) I run a NAS at homewith my printer hanging off it. I simply wanted to print from my iPad to the printer. I paid $ TOP for the app and now cant get it refunded via iTUNES.... Do I feel ripped off? Yes. Do I usually rant like this? No. I'm sorry, but I don't want some one else to pay for something that doesnt work without decent support. *sigh*.Version: 2.2

Not as easy as you thinkDon't bother.Version: 2.1

PrintCentralThis app is totally useless..Version: 1.8.5

Useless integration with outgoing email serverEmailing through this app is supposedly a strong point, however many people can find sending email from the iPad troublesome (MobileMe excepted) because of the way certain ISP's handle incoming mail from a mobile device. So having taken out a subscription with a mail forwarding provider to plug this shortfall it is all the more galling when PrintCentral will not talk correctly to that mail server. When I elect to send an email without security I do not expect it to flag up anomalous security issues and fail to deliver the message. Having raised this issue a year ago with both parties they should work together to sort out the incongruity but as of this date it is still not resolved. The conclusion is for me to ditch the least useful service which unfortunately is PrintCentral..Version: 1.8.5

Do not loose your $Poor application.Version: 2.2

DisappointingIn fairness, it works fine through the free WePrint application, which turns your PC into a print server. However, I have two print servers on my home network already and it doesn't recognise them or the printers attached to them, other than through my PC. This means that I can only use the app if my PC is turned on, which sort of defeats one of the objects of having an iPad. I have ePrint app on my iPhone which is free and which connects directly with the printers through the network print servers, so I can use it anytime I am in range of my wifi home network. Unfortunately they don't make an ePrint app for iPad. It's a lot of money for something which offers so much but which doesn't really dleiver in an everyday situation..Version: 1.7.1

BewareA difficult App. Despite having many years IT experience I am unable to get anything to print. Disappointed..Version: 0

An OK App but . . .I purchased this app to replace both the Apple Air Print and Epson Print. I had hoped it would make it easier to print from my ipads and iphone. Unfortunately, it has been much more detailed and difficult to use. I have two Epson Wifi printers and I just can't get the Print Central to work. I downloaded their software on my Mac computer thinking that would solve the problems but it did not. Now when I try to print from a web site/blog, it prints the first page, then I get a error message on my Epson printer that it has detected incorrect paper size. I'm sure this app is great for most users but not for me. Unfortunately, I have invested time and money to get to work. I will return to using the Epson Print app. It works fine albeit many steps to go through just to print a web page..Version: 3.3.1

Waste of moneyPaid $10 - still can't print a single page of a magazine on my iPad - disappointing craap....not worth a star.Version: 2.4

BewareAfter this update I found that I could not print from browser using WiFi any longer. I spent hours trying to find the fault using the clunky fault finding with its strange use of English only to find this function had been removed "due to compliance changes for Apple's guidelines ". How about a flag upfront immediately after download if key functionality is removed? As printing from browser was the main reason for purchase I will be seeking refund from Apple. Although previous version worked, I don't feel the instructions were very clear, certainly not for this reasonably techie user! I would advise all except the very competent to look elsewhere..Version: 1.8.5

UselessNo Airprint compatible printers available so we thought to try this app. Could not get it work on web page printing safari or the split screen approach. Email printing requires the app, and thus the vendor..., to have “full access” to all email system, contacts and so on. By no means a safe and secure option... The split screen approach seems to have no way to lose the dialogue box etc., other than to press home button (on a iPad in this case) and then one has to re-open the browser again... Instructions via help are written by someone who clearly knows what they’re doing, but fails to realise the new user will not be so familiar with the app.; and thus left fishing about for clearer info/instructions. Having written how to handouts, guides/manuals extensively in the past... The help files here with the app would never pass muster in my professional areas. We already have printer apps which use a computer as a server; we were hoping this one would do it all direct from the iOS device(s) - but it doesn’t. There ought to be trial version first, and then buy if it works. Instead one has to buy it and then discover it doesn’t work as expected and required; and no refund either..Version: 4.3.2

Really good app - but significant restrictionsAs far as seeing the printer, it was fine. But when I tried to print it told me that there are compatibility issues (Canon MP990 wireless printer). So one of the main purposes, printing from iPad to wireless printer at home, has disappeared. OK say support, install WePrint on the Mac and use that. No joy there either, at least not when the Mac is in the office on a different subnet, which is when I would want to print from the iPad and which is the norm when at home. Other things that Print Central does, it does well. And the reviews here indicate that if you have the right printer and/or the right network structure, it will also print well. It's just unfortunate that, in my case, it doesn't actually deliver on its prime function. Hopefully Canon support is in the pipeline, and maybe then I will be joining in with the five-star reviews..Version: 1.7.1

This is not working for me.I just purchased this program and frankly, it does not work for me. It seems it will not communicate with a Brother printer on my network. The work around is to have another computer on the network act as a gateway so you actually print through the second computer. Problem is, the second computer has to be running. Does not matter since this does not work either. I am fully aware that the company selling the software has customer support but the program should work as advertized. It appears the programming was not well thought out if the user has to automatically install secondary software on a second machine and then go through a support system just to get it to work. The idea was to have wireless printing directly to any printer. This is simply not happening in my case. I blame Apple for selling a device such as the I-Pad that will not print and then allowing third parties to sell printing software that does not function as advertized. Then further insulating themselves by stating they are not responsible and then maintaining a no refund policy. This is simply wrong. The only positive is that I do not rely on the I-pad. Finally, I read all of the other comments. How is it that I am the only one having trouble. I question that!!.Version: 1.8.5

Okay, but not greatI bought this thinking I could print directly to my wi-fi printer, only to discover that there is no information (in the app or on the web site) to guide you through the set up. In the end I had to install WePrint and use my PC as a print server - this is exactly what I didn't want to do. Come on guys, provide some better help for setting up wi-fi printing..Version: 0

Only half the jobIt sounds too good to be true (a printing App you can use direct from your iPad) well yes it is too good to be true, It will ONLY print via there Weprint running on my laptop. I already can print from my laptop, when I try to print direct from my iPad, well it does not work ever. Iv e-mail support but all I get is the same reply and info which is not helpful. The built in e-mail is a great idea however, you need to input all the settings like ip address and server detail and account detail and so on and so on. That's just so you can receive e-mails you then and to input all the sending setting, it should do it, it's selfs once you input your address and password like the iPad does. Lots more work needs to go to to these apps before only 4 out of 10, it's the future we are going to not the pass guys.Version: 0

Updated Review: Ruined by latest iOSUpadate: The App's greatest feature crippled by Apple. Maintaining backup old version of PrintCentral no longer preserves ability to print directly from other enabled apps. Apple effectively removed function via latest iOS release. Unlike so many others I tend to READ THE INFORMATION ON WHAT'S BEEN CHANGED. with version 1.8.2 the developer clearly stated they removed the ability to print through Apple's AirPrint function. That told me everything I needed to know. So I backed up the app BEFORE updating just to see what the real impact would be. In short I didn't like it at all and rolled back to my saved copy. I am very glad the developers clearly informed us instead of trying to hide the change required by Apple. That's why I still give it full marks. Also, the app still does what it was designed to do which is print to any printer. Yes, it's clunkier now but the alternative was to removal from the app store..Version: 1.8.5

PrintCentral does not work as advertised. This program did not work with a new iPad, PC, and wireless network Canon printer. It's an aggravating waste of time and money. Do not be conned into paying for PrintCentral if you want to print from an iPad to a non AirPrint wireless printer. John Lawrence.Version: 2.5
