Guitar Interval Ear Trainer for Positive User Reviews

Sweet.This app is awesome.Version: 3.1

Excellent - brilliant learning tool for intervals on a fretboardJust had App 10mins but already delighted with it! I've been practicing intervals with other methods over past few months. This App has everything needed to learn quickly : reference tunes, tells you the classic interval name plus indicates the semi-tone difference between notes. Like a training guitar and teacher in your pocket. Well worth the £1.99!.Version: 4.72

Unbelievably responsive developer!I ask for a unique tuning, he makes it for me overnight. Now he even has customizable position markers so now I even have my weird position markers, too. I suppose next he'll come up with a fretless option with the note circles shifted a bit up to where the frets were. (I can't bring myself to ask for that much, though.) What fantastic apps these are: Bass Sight and Guitar Intervals!.Version: 4.0

Holy MackerelI bow to thee creator! I wish I had it when I was five! I'm making all my students get it. If you can't figure it all out from here ya never will.........!!!.Version: 3.0

Awesome app!!Does what it says and lots of options. Very useful to learn your intervals without guitar in hand. Not sure what else one can ask for. Maybe test melodies?.Version: 4.5.1

The BEST!I've tried 3 different ear training apps and this one is BY FAR the BEST one! I've been using this everyday. The options and level of control that it gives you over your own learning experience is awesome! For example, I was having trouble distinguishing the difference between 5ths, 6ths, and 7ths. This app lets me test myself on ONLY those intervals if I want. This lets you focus on your weak areas or start your training small (only learning one or two intervals) and building it up from there! It covers all keys and scales/modes. There are YEARS worth of learning in this app! What a GREAT tool for the serious musician. I highly recommend this app!!.Version: 3.9

5/5Ear training used to be considered an innate ability. Some have it and some don't. I think it is true that some people do have natural abilities to play by ear, and recognizing intervals is the reason people can play by ear. Whether learned or innate, conscious or subconscious the number of semitones between each note is what your brain uses to interpret. I've been able to play along to a song I've never heard before for a long time and many others are like me. People tell me all the time how they could never do that. Well it may take some practice but this app has everything you need. At the risk of sounding lame I've been able to play whatever I hear almost instantly and that's my brain recognizing (to simplify) the intervals between the roots of the bass chords and the distance/intervals between the melody. This app is great because it has you start out at levels truly made for beginners. You can skip these and move on to tougher concepts too. It also offers melodic intervals, 1 note that is given then a second note following that you must identify. The melodic intervals are better to start with as the app also has harmonic intervals which are much tougher. This is two notes played simultaneously, one provided and the other is up to you. This app was challenging for me and I thought I knew every interval there was. But another great feature is how you can choose whether you want the top or the bottom note provided. The descending modes (especially descending harmonic) took me forever to grasp. A progress meter with three levels of difficulty, 6 key groups & 6 modes of testing leaves you with 108 different accomplishments with them ranging from beginner to people who think they're experts and get slapped in the face. So many of my friends want to be able to play by ear, to play Justin Bieber's new aural masterpiece, real music like some R.E.M. or Radiohead, or even classical music. I'm not promising anything but I think you spend enough time with this app you can learn Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata by ear in a day. I think this app transcends whatever instrument you play as well. I've played piano for 15 years and guitar for half that time but the crossover gap doesn't exist. Frets and keys each move up one semitone. And someone who is playing by ear is subconsciously processing the INTERVALS between the notes and the resulting number of semitones between the two. I love everything about this app. Piano, guitar, novice, pro, I think this is the tool you want so you never have to look at that cursed sheet music again. I want people to know that knowing musical intervals, how afar apart notes are, is at the center of playing by ear. How does Beethoven, who's completely lost his ability to hear, continue to write? He knows the relative sound that will be made between two notes. Beethoven said this app changed his life I once heard. I don't write reviews either I just want people to know that music has to be mechanical before it can become an expression of oneself. And people like to say 'I'm not artistic' or 'I'm 40 years old' but the truth is give yourself a chance if you really want to play. Even if just to have a way to express yourself. I'm in medical school. As some creepy man once said to a radio host "you have to let the poison out". Some people dance. Some sing. But many people need to have an avenue to express yourself and music can be learned. Then one day for the first time you close your eyes and aren't thinking about the music anymore. Your floating in the ethos being spoon-fed a healthy dose of silence and warmth. Wow how do I bring this back to an app about semitones and musical intervals... I guess the previous paragraph is the result for people who put in the time. Get a cheap instrument this app some fondue and call up Mrs. Gaga and tell her you're coming for her. I will give this app 5/5 stars. and my review - tl;dr.Version: 3.3

Great appThis app is pretty outstanding as long as you know have a basic understanding of music theory and intervals. It is great for learning the fretboard and training your ear to hear different intervals. Exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I wish it had was an option to work on the higher strings (G, B, E) as well as the low ones..Version: 3.0

Love this app!I love this app. Looks beautiful, easy to use, easy to learn from, and great for ear training. One of the best. The sounds are amazing too..Version: 4.2

Love it!!I use a lot of apps to supplement my regular practice time with my guitar. This is a great addition to the collection. I've gotten pretty good at identifying intervals by ear, but this app helps me to connect those intervals directly to the guitar. There's a ton of configurable settings which makes it great for players of all levels. The only thing missing for me is multiple note melodies. It would be great if it could play 4-5 note sequences that you have to play back. :).Version: 4.3.1

Nicely doneLots of helpful features. A good solid way to practice and recognize intervals. Plenty of help available to explain difficult concepts and the layout works well. I like the voice guided testing mode so you can practice without looking at the screen. Well worth the money. I highly recommend this for combining ear training with guitar training..Version: 3.9

SuperReally enjoy the ear program. It's so helpful and make sense. I can say it's now only practice what's stay in the way if you don't get it..Version: 0

Pretty good!I've got a few apps for interval training and this fits in very well. Very flexible..Version: 3.0

Wonderfully useful, timely guitar app! What a great app! I created some e-flash cards w/guitar intervals a couple of years ago as teaching aids; but, THIS is more like what I had envisioned. Fernando Sor places a great emphasis on intervals as essential to truly understanding the instrument; yet, the style of his guitar method is just too academic for most folks who aren't interested in professional study. I've longed to see mainstream contemporary materials that present intervals in a more accessible format; sadly, I've seen too few that do any comparable justice to such an indispensable and all-too-often overlooked skill. This app goes a long way toward filling that ugly void. Elegantly simple, highly accessible, brilliantly intuitive, inconspicuously pedagogical. If Maestro Sor would've carried an iPhone, this app would've lived at the top of his home screen. Bravo!.Version: 2.6

Great systemVery good. Would benefit from more structure to guiding and measuring progress..Version: 0

Fantastic!God, I wish I had this in college. What a help! So user friendly..Version: 3.0

Absolutely superb! If you could only have one app you should have this one, if you are a musician. I am fairly confident that it will help improve my musical abilities tenfold. The design and execution is flawless and the detail is mind blowing for the cost. Do not hesitate..Version: 4.63

Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliantly DoneJust what I was looking for after being stuck in a rut musically on the guitar for a while. It's a real ear opener if you get my jist Well worth the money & I have just touched on what the app can do Well done 😊😊😊👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.Version: 4.5.2

GREAT LEARNING APPI've been playing guitar most of my life and just recently began taking lessons. My instructor is focusing on intervals and hearing notes before they are played. I found this app to help me along and I will say it has advanced my interval/ear training by leaps and bounds. My guitar playing has jumped to a different level since I started the interval/sound training. It would have taken so much longer without this app. It is a very simple app that will take your musical abilities to levels you never knew where there. Anyone wanting to go to the next step should use this app. I could see this app helping with any instrument you play..Version: 4.2

Very usefulI'd give another star if i would be able to select root note not from the settings but simply by pressing a note on main interface or even better if i could for instance select C as a root note and app would play sellected in setting section interval(for instace all 6th) to all notes contained in C major scale. that would be absolute winner. i so far failed to find app doing that!.Version: 2.8

OutstandingToo bad there is a maximum of 5 stars for the rating. This app is just an outstanding drill tool. If I must suggest some improvements, it would be tritone consistency: it's treated as flat 5, except it'c an F# for C. Nothing is wrong with that, but I found a great way for students to practice by calling out the notes before they play them, and up to speed this can confuse even the best of us. Maybe an option like tritones are either aug 4th or flat 5th.. Anyway, this is the best (pathetic) critique I could come up with for the app.. Just get it!.Version: 3.9

Excellent ear/interval trainingI have tried many apps and most are garbage. This app has a bit of a learning curve, but once you figure it out it is easy to use and makes learning intervals and notes easier to recognize. I highly recommend this app!.Version: 4.5.2

This app is amazingSince I got this app I play more guitar and I work more on my music theory..Version: 3.0

IncredibleThis app has done more for my interval recognition that three years at conservatory. Just pop it on in the car or train and get the intervals drilled into your subconscious. I have never written a review before but I love this app..Version: 3.0

Great Trainer4 stars as I have not checked out everything in the app. What I have used is excellent. Lots of setting features to tailor for your needs. Good test results. I would pay for this app..Version: 4.2

I am impressedI've tried quite a few different interval training apps (5-7 by my best estimate) over the past year or so and after ten minutes with this one I'm quite impressed. The sheer number of adjustable settings seems a bit overwhelming at first, but the in-app instructions are well-written and I was able to start testing myself almost immediately. That said, I would not recommend this app for someone who is not familiar with the guitar fretboard or interval construction. While I think ear training is a very important part of developing musicianship, I would argue that those who are just starting to study intervals would be better suited by app that demonstrates intervals on a piano/keyboard as they are much easier to "visualize" in the more linear fashion that a keyboard provides. It's obviously possible to play linear scales on one string on the guitar, but this is not how scales are most commonly used/constructed by guitarists. If, however, you do understand the fretboard layout and perhaps know some scale patterns already, this app will be useful to you. As a guitar player I'm particularly excited to try the alternate tuning settings, which will no doubt be challenging at first. Anyway, if you're on the fence, spend the $3 on this app - I believe it will be a powerful asset to anyone who uses it diligently, myself included..Version: 4.5.2

Good AppHave taken beginners theory and ear training. This app is just what I was looking for to practice and reenforce the things I want learn about guitar at this time. Thank you..Version: 3.4

I'm improving:)This is a great app! When I first got it a week ago I was surprisingly terrible at it. I was bad. 30 correct out of 100:(, maybe worse. Use the help and narrow the range down a bit:). Now I am ~70 correct out of 100. So, for me the hack guitarist, I am improving a lot! I do wish the "progress meter" was a bit more sensitive! I still have registered "no progress". I only play this up to 80 to 100, so I likely will not show any progress ever! I am improving a lot though! So, great app! Thanks!.Version: 3.0

Great for guitaristsHaving never done any interval training (or even having known that was a thing) this app has been a good introduction, and as it is specifically for guitarists and the display is based on a fretboard, it is easy to transfer the learning to the instrument. All the options are a bit overwhelming at first but they all seem to be useful and it's nice to have it so easily configurable..Version: 4.5.2

TeacherAwesome‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾.Version: 4.71
