Music Theory Pro for Negative User Reviews

Advertising new app with nag screen. Avoid!!Copy of email sent To the developer. Well, I doubt you’ll be the slightest bit interested in what I have to say, regardless of the many sales I’ve generated by recommending your MTP app to my Music Students. Your MTP app hasn’t been updated in 2 years (at time of writing. It’s clear your interest lies in promoting your latest app. Please read on: I take great exception to you pestering paying customers with a pop-up advertising your latest venture, part way through an activity. This happens after three incorrect answers. Your solution: Don’t get three wrong answers! What a load of rubbish. You have absolutely no justification promoting your new app from within an already purchased app. I wanted to tell you this before I wrote a review for you on the App Store. I personally, will never use any of your products again nor will I ever recommend them to my students..Version: 2.1.1

No contentMore like a very small game rather than any kind of theory study or training. Beginners only.Version: 0

Feels half doneIt's a good app and will help my jazz development. I am however disappointed with some aspects of this app. The key signature game is just a counting game. Making it harder could include randomizing the key signature positions. I thought if it were to cater for pro musicians there would be higher tier interval training available. Yes it does do intervals quite well but with no extensions it halts my progress and makes me want to look at other apps with this ability. Tetra chords would also be a nice feature. It seams that the difference between the levels is quite large. I would not mind paying more for these features. Maybe a total pro version for 5 to 10 would be great. I am a music student wanting to expand and test my knowledge on the go. I will use this app but if I could get a refund I would.Version: 1.0

Good idea but it does not work wellI can’t hear the ear trening.Version: 2.1.1

Sizing IssuesSeems like since the last update that the screen size doesn't adjust to an iPhone anymore and the program is not usable anymore because some of the buttons are off the screen..Version: 2.0.61

Small fix neededThis app has been very helpful... after the additional app was released (which I paid for to show support) an annoying message keeps coming up every time I get something wrong doing aural testing - suggesting I try the other app. This is exceptionally frustrating as I don’t want to be interrupted. Please fix and I will love this app again!!.Version: 2.1.1

Sadly frustrating for beginnersI went on the recommendation of Music 101. As a beginner, I was hoping to find an app that would enhance what I’m learning, instead I find “games” that have zero instruction and teach me nothing. I only spent $5, but when you’re getting nothing for the $5, it’s too much money. Either change the name of this app or vastly improve it by adding instructions, which would make it more user friendly at least..Version: 2.1.1

Dont updateThe last update is no working, at least on my iphone 4gs...,.Version: 2.0.61

App is brokenThis app was usable a few years ago. Now it stops functioning after a few times thru the chird recognition exercise. No one maintains it..Version: 2.1.1

NiceNice app. Really helpful for ear training. It's a shame it doesn't work with headphones ( audio is still played by the iPhone's speaker with earphones plugged in) ... Please fix.Version: 2.0.1

Update Needed. Volume problems.I know the Ringer has to be turned on (which should be fixed) but when you do ear training the scales vs the chords volume mix are painful extremes. This is a good app.. could be a GREAT app that would be something I would pay for if it was overall cleaner/balanced for our new devices.Version: 2.1.1

Volume and Landscape viewWhile the app and idea is fantastic, the program does have some upgrades that would improve the program. One the program opens in a landscape view on phone and does not rotate to portrait view. That upgrade would be beneficial just for increased functionality. Second, the volume does come out very low on the phone and can not seem to find a way to improve that..Version: 2.1.1

UpdateApp was fantastic Until latest update. But It now displays on my iphone at almost mini ipad Scale & therefore most of the possible Answers & the 'Playable Keyboard' have now 'disappeared off the bottom of the Screen & there seems no way of minimising it. & it also Crashes ! Tried reinstalling but hopeless! DONT INSTALL LATEST UPDATE . I am really annoyed as I use this App all the time for Teaching! It also happened a while ago with my Sat Nav App, Why the Hell don't they fully test these 'Updates' before releasing them ??? I have also tried using the Contact/Problems option, But that has also been 'Screwed up' by this wretched update HELP !!!!!.Version: 2.0.61

Good start, needs inversionsI have been using this app to help revise for music aural exams. It would be great if the ear training chords had inversions!.Version: 1.0

Not for kidsAs the name of this app suggests, it's for professionals. I bought it for my daughter to prepare for her grade 5 theory test, but only found it helpless. No instruction, no guidance, and you have to guess what to do for every piece and part when using this app..Version: 2.0.4

Popups advertising other appKeeps asking me to view another app. This is a paid premium application, so please remove these adverts.Version: 2.1.1

Could've been done better!1. I have to agree with some who have said that this app should teach & explain the skills & concepts that it's testing on. Otherwise this app is only useful to those who already know basic theory or who are studying it in school, lessons etc. A little snobbish if u ask me. 2. The note reading exercises are a joke. Why the keyboard when you can't adjust the position of the keys. I mean the note F for ex. is shown on different places on the staff, treble & bass clef, but you only have the one same F on the keyboard to play it on. Sight-reading isn't just about what, it's about where too. Hello! Basically this is an app for people who already understand music theory and want to make themselves feel smarter by going through drills that they already know the answers too..Version: 0

OkThe sound of the intervals are not working in the new version :(.Version: 2.1.1

Ear training notes? You have your training but without training on specific tones? I bought this to try out for my students but my students are all kids and this is not a kid friendly app and I would really appreciate my money back because even as an adult player this application is not intuitive. I’m pretty unhappy with the money I spent..Version: 2.1.1

BuggyNo sound on ear intervals, scales, or tempo. Only sound on chords..Version: 2.1.1

Nothing for a beginnerI was looking for something to learn as a biginner! This is for pro. No basic training before asking questions.Version: 0

Please fix volume issueAny updates on getting the volume for the interval training to be the same as the chord training? Interval training is very faint, even on full sound.Version: 2.1.1

MooMooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.Version: 2.1.1

Monotone teaching styleI know it's just a buck, but it's my buck. I wanted to learn theory. If you are a beginner and do not already know notes then this is not for you. If you don't mind droning repetition as a means to learn through incessant trial and error then this app is for you. This is really geared towards those who have the knowledge already and just want practice..Version: 1.0

Why does it have advertisements for your other apps when I paid money for this one?Why does an app I paid money for have a constant popup advertisement for your MusicProf app? This is annoying and unprofessional. Not to mention that this is the only app on the App Store that can’t figure out how to get sound without turning the ringer on. The sound is broken because you are bad at programming, not because your users are too dumb to turn the ringer on. Unacceptable quality..Version: 2.1.1

Poor to mediocreI can't get excited about this App. Comprises a handful of basic theory questions in a poorly presented, clunky App with little thought behind it. Compared to Music Theory for Beginners I would have to say it's a disappointment..Version: 1.0

Issues and bugsThe settings are not able to be changed besides the on/off sliders, and when you get a question wrong it doesn't give you the right answer all the time. It would be nice if you added video lessons on the topics the games quiz you on. For example a lesson on key signatures or a lesson on intervals, etc..Version: 2.0.2

Great but a bit easyI started using this app to help with my music theory but after a few weeks it started being repetitive and I didn’t even need to think on what the answer was. It helped me so much but sooner or later I won’t be progressing quickly and in the it will be the app I end up using but it is not helping me..Version: 2.1.1

Music teacherGreat app, can u add timing?.Version: 2.0

It's a tester, not a teacherThere isn't any instruction or reasons. Just questions and answers. If you don't know theory then this is not for you. Good for intermediate and up or as a supplement to learning music theory elsewhere..Version: 1.0

Not badMusicopoulos is my preferred app. Does everything this does plus more..Version: 2.0

Good for testing, not teachingThis app has some very useful features for testing what you already know about music theory. However there are no lessons to actually teach you about music theory. You can learn by virtue of trial and error when answering the test-your-knowledge questions, but that is very frustrating and ineffective. This app is for the person who has already has a strong music theory foundation. It is not that useful for those hoping to build a foundation..Version: 2.1.1

Broken listening sectionI would recommend a different app if you want to do ear training. That functionality regularly breaks.Version: 2.1.1

Work in progressFun drills but I wish one could disable the cheering sound as it seems to go forever and drowns out the start of the next drill....Version: 1.0

This is a training appNo theory, just testing. Great if you know the material. Useless if you don't..Version: 2.1.1

Doesn’t work on iPad ProEar training does not work on iPad Pro at all. There is no ringer switch on this device so that does not fix it. Only the chord section works. Considering I just spent a decent amount to purchase the app, I would really like for this to work. I’ve tried everything in the settings already..Version: 2.1.1

Oh no, had to lower my review againPlease get the leaderboards working again. It would be very fun and would give me higher goals of accuracy and speed to strive for. The prompt to buy MTPro is annoying. I downloaded the app and it is very boring and obvious to any basically trained musician. I just want to practice my ear training and I want it to go smoothly and uninterrupted. You don’t need to remind me to buy the other frankly lame app. I’m trying to speed test my ear and I’m gonna miss answers. That’s the way it is when you are first learning. I’m probably rambling to nothing though since this App hasn’t been updated in a while, and that’s just another reason to avoid spending money on an app no one wants to improve..Version: 2.1.1

CherryConsidering i got a E in my music theory mock this app is crap! I wanted something to improve my mark not waste money!.Version: 1.0

Trapped me got stuck onHow do o close this thing!.Version: 2.1.1

Lovely app most of the timeLovely app most of the time, but currently there is an audio issue with the intervals. Other sections play fine, but intervals will not sound even with the volume turned to maximum. My students are all having the same issues with it..Version: 2.1.1

Volume error iPadHi great app but there is something wrong with the volume on my iPad Pro, it’s very quiet and when I increase the volume it just gets quieter..Version: 2.1.1

No SoundI get no sound on an iPhone 3GS..Version: 1.0

Would be great if it were a little more funOne star because I have been waiting for an update for a year. I love this app. But I am not motivated to use it much. It could be so much more. How about levels and progress charts and achievement records? How about a visual map to show progress like on some of the addicting iPad games? What makes Candy crush so addicting? It's the levels and visual sense of progress. Also, this app has so much more potential... Chord inversions, chord progressions, relative pitch, perfect pitch, key/chord relationships, instrument (timbre) recognition, texture identification.... Add some of these ideas and make it fun / addicting to play and you'll be my favorite app..Version: 2.0.4

Major issues need to be fixedBesides chords, the sound doesn’t work for ear training..Version: 2.1.1

Sound does not workOh the irony. You cannot hear the notes or chords being played that the app is quizzing you on. What a huge embarrassing failure. No one is fixing this app either, yet they continue to sell it despite the warnings of the problems I encountered. Some are nearly 3 years old!!! Garbage..Version: 2.1.1

Looks better works worse!I used this a few years ago to pass my ABRSM grade 5 theory. I liked the games and it included a little "?" button that explained in easy to understand detail how the theory worked for each section. Having this reference was integral to completing the games unless you already have a teacher to tell you how to figure out things like intervals. I only revisited to recommend and am disappointed I can't use it to brush up on my own theory..Version: 2.0.4

ZulmyWhhhhhhy isn’t the sound working ?.Version: 2.1.1

Ear training soundThe sound for the ear training doesn't work. It used to. Please fix.Version: 2.1.1

No sound at allI downloaded this app for a music class I am taking in school. You can’t even hear what it’s quizzing you on? COMPLETE waste of money. Would NOT recommend..Version: 2.1.1

Update ruined itThe sizing changed after the update, so for e.g. you'll be asked for note names but you can't access the options to choose the right one. Has become useless. Can't see an option to undo the update. Tried deleting and reloading app but didn't help..Version: 2.0.6

Ok but...Ok if you've done your studying and want to test yourself, but this isn't a tutor..Version: 2.0.61

Just awfulPlease, buy a can of soft drink or something instead, this is truly diabolical, worst app I have and I have over 200..Version: 1.0

Fantastic 5 star until upgraded to iOS 7This app has been fantastic. However now I've upgraded to iOS 7 it's not working. For example, in the interval section, when I went to change the setting to have questions including 9th and 10th it would not allow me to choose 'yes'. I changed about all of the 'yes' options to 'no' to see if that helped but now they are all stuck on 'no', they can't be changed back to 'yes' and so the ap doesn't work any more! Really disappointed. :(.Version: 2.0.2

FIX THIS!!!The sound for the ear training is not working! I'm sure this is a fantastic app, but unfortunately the ear training sound isn't working, which is kind of a big deal when learning music theory. Fix this immediately and I'm sure the app is golden!.Version: 2.1.1

Needs a fix! This games volume isn’t working properly. I only get sounds on the chords. Please update and fix!.Version: 2.1.1

GoodOnly thing is that tempo interval and scale eartraining doesnt work so fix that please thank you.Version: 2.1.1

Latest update hard to see. Too small. At the risk of sounding like an old man (39) the staff is now too small. Mostly the accidental within the staff are tough to make out clearly. This was never an issue before. I think you sacrificed function for style. Also, since the latest update, the sound during ear training comes out the speaker of my phone even while plugged in to my headphones. No other app on my phone has this issue. No more private ear training on my daily commute to work. Still a great app but may have slipped a bit backwards..Version: 2.0.1
