ArtRage for Positive User Reviews

Fun appHave been using app only a few days, but I'm sure I will enjoy this immensely. Seems to give a good selection of and emulates the process of working with actual oil paints. I'm a total novice at this, but I will enjoy developing my hand and eye in this medium, being easily able to play with 'paints', yet quickly undo my mistakes, without creating a real-world mess! Previous reviews have complained about slowness. I am using and iPad Pro + Pencil (and/or finger), and it is working very well for me..Version: 2.1.3

Still my go to sketching appIt’s true this app hasn’t changed much, but it’s worth remembering that it’s been a complete and affordable tool for over a decade. It just works.i love the paint simulation and the easy to use interface..Version: 2.4.0

GoodThanks for fixing the music problem this is the perfect art app 🎨+🎧=😃.Version: 1.4.5

Wonderful!Really love this app. It does lag a little on my iPad2, but I only dabble in digital art, so this doesn't bother me. Very sophisticated tools, great interface. Together with ProCreate, these are the only two iPad drawing apps I use..Version: 1.4.1

What a revelation!I bought this app thinking it was $12 and hoping it would be as good as the promo pics... It turned out to be half the price and an excellent buy :) I spend a lot of time creating artwork in various programs but hadn't yet found something that simulates real painting- this is it! If you enjoy painting but don't have the time or money to spend on the real-life version this is a great substitute. I highly recommend this..Version: 1.4.0

*****Love this app! I am much into drawing on my iPad and this app is definitely one of the best! Worth the money!.Version: 1.4.4

The pallets knife is the best.I have all the best art apps but this is the only one with realistic palette knife.I’ve been searching everywhere for pallets knife painting and then remembered artrage has one, and it works perfectly! I’d forgotten how unique artrage is in the way it behaves like real life paint. Thank u for continuing to support this app..Version: 2.3.3

AwesomeNice feel and overall look, the pencil sketching especially has been done well compared to other apps on the iPad..Version: 1.0.5

Good app that neads some improvements to be great.Great app for a real paint feeling and look. However there is a slight lag that is very frustrating and it is just generally a slow responding app. If that was fixed I would give it a five star rating. If only we could have the resposiveness and option for large scale output of brushes combined with the tesxtures and amazing blending tools of Artrage. That would be the perfect app. I should mention again how amazing the blending tools are in this app. Love it..Version: 0

Very goodFor painting nothing beats it! Amazing what technology can do, yes slight lag but nothing which stops this program from being amazing! Download now, only one thing developers is there anyway to increase the resolution size? 1024/768 is really small if I want to print :(.Version: 1.0.4

Superb, the best painting app for the iPadI have tried them all, this for me is the best. The way the app works is completely intuitive, whilst offering a huge range of settings available with every tool. From the first time you touch it you can make pictures, no need for a learning curve ... so it's a real pleasure discovering you are on one as the more time you spend using it, the more you do with it and the more you love it. A tool for everyone ... children to over 90's - artists to "I can't draw'ers" ...squeeze paint onto the canvas, select the palette knife and play! Every tool does what you expect it to. This version has proven very robust too, minor glitches of previous versions are now ironed out. All for just £3.99, amazing..Version: 1.0.5

AmazingI use this on my mac and this version is just like it, great selection of realistic tools and papers that puts the rest of the competition in the app store to shame. Plus you're able to easily save your project on your computer and then open it in the pc version! Would like to see higher DPI options for the images, 72 is a bit low. This app is highly recommended to both amateurs and professionals!.Version: 1.0.4

Not for everyoneIts a well done app really good lookin interface some of the tools are workin really well on immitating real painting effects The app is sometimes a little slow compared to others apps Probably due to the great effects that the different tools offers For people who are used to painting ; great app For people who are more into drawing and graphics, like me Sorry to say i think there is better for you out here...Version: 0

Palm rejection is a little shortyAs an artist this is the best app still, after trying everything out there. Buuuut the palm rejection need some work and this app needs lots of TLC in comparison to the desktop app which is incredible. Please update mobile version for larger canvases stencils and fix the palm rejection!!!!?? Please..Version: 2.4.0

Great appI haven't had any of the lag problems spoken about. If you mess around with the many different canvases, brushes, pens etc. you can achieve any affect with this app. I find the ability to have a "ghost" image of a picture in layering very useful. In short if you really explore ArtRage it is a superb painting/graphics app..Version: 1.4.2

GoodProbably one of the best applications for serious painting and drawing.Version: 1.0.4

Easy to useI have tried many “paint “ and “photo” apps but this one is one of the best. The help is great, tutorials and clear instructions on how to use the app. Definitely recommend!.Version: 2.4.0

ArtrageThe application has a nice interface hat is easy to use The 3d affect on the brush strokes ads a nice touch It's a shame the iPad does not come in. 40" screen.Version: 1.4.1

If onlyI luv this app but it's missing the online community of sketchpad.. It would be great to see other peoples work and share my art too..any chance that is in the app future?.Version: 1.1.5

Very coolThe tools are amazing I only wish it would let me zoom in more.Version: 1.4.7

Gloriously Smooshy. The paints smoosh together beautifully and smear and blend and bleed. This is about as close as it gets to the real behaviour of paint as I have seen in any app and it is wonderful!.Version: 2.1.5

Almost perfectJust maybe a bit slow on my gen1 iPad Pro. Also the user interface is a bit excessively complex. Good app overall but it seems there is no real desire to make it better. Shame rally because it could easily surpass Procreate with a bit more work..Version: 2.4.0

This IZ THE BEST!I use it for tracing since I can't draw too well and this app is the best. But on the latest update it keeps crashing. And that I think is so annoying, because I was finished tracing and it crashed. Massive set back. Anyway, other than that, I love the colour scheme using saturation & luminosity. Really cool! If you don't have it you must buy it right now!! (Also when I flip to go landscape it goes dodgy).Version: 1.4.6

Prettey good!I really like this but there is always room for improvement. I would really rate it 4.5 but it won't let me. I'd do this because there are a few more things that you can do on the computer edition. But if you are looking for a good art app this is definitely the one!.Version: 1.1.6

UpdateAny plans for an update on the iPad as the pc version is out now, it has been a long time..Version: 2.4.0

Keep it comingI can't wait for the ruler tool in an update- how cool it would be to be able to move around a ruler with two fingers, then draw to it. I hope we aren't waiting long.Version: 1.0.5

AWESOME!Totally awesome game, but maybe could add glitter and some of the tools you can find on the computer version..Version: 1.3.2

One of the bestAs art programs go this rivals BRUSHES.The help file is superior though and I would recommend this to any budding digital artist. At its current price (about $3 )it is value for money..Version: 1.4.3

Good painting appMy only complaint is the yellow and blue don’t make green and instead make a grayish-purplish color..Version: 2.4.0

ArtRageFantastic app - great for the truly talented & the novice alike. Love the palette knife option. Layers great & photo options for tracing or pin up are sweet..Version: 1.4.3

Reason I got an iPadThis is a fantastic and by far the best painting application on the App Store runs find on iPad 3 and can't wait upgrade to the iPad 4 and try it out on it. Has revived the artist in me I had to let go long ago as art paraphernalia is expensive, but now I have a full painting studio to play with and am loving please keep up the great work with this app guys and look forward to future releases..Version: 1.4.7

Still my favoriteAbsolutely amazing and still my favorite painting pp..Version: 2.4.0

Stunning appBetter than Sketcbook Pro, this app is a breakthrough in technology..Version: 1.0.4

It’s great but..When I’m drawing something and I load an image and try to draw that sometimes I go out of auto trace/color and don’t know how to go back. If anyone knows if you can do it please tell me how. Other than that it works good.Version: 2.4.0

If you have the patience of a saint...I've been lucky, when I bought an iPad I bought Art Rage loved it, but gave up on it because it's just too darn slow. I now have an iPad 2 and thought i'd give it a try, but you know what, it's still too slow. Don't get me wrong though, its a fantastic art package with a well designed interface and some sublime tools with cool effects. But that lag! It does vary depending on which tool you're using. Surprisingly the worst is the water colour brush, with the oil brush lagging somewhat (it does have to blend paints after-all) and pencils and pens actually quite responsive. There are however some really nicely designed features for beginners such as the ability to import and trace a photograph and automatic colour selection, which allows you to really practice and learn what works and what doesn't. All in all a nice art app and if you have the patience to persevere you can get quite realistic looking results..Version: 1.1.6

Not quite what you'd expect from a £4.99 app...It is good, but not worth the £5. There are free apps of a similar standard. The update has helped with the lag problem, but the paints are still of a bad quality and unreal looking. The screenshots shown are pretty much impossible to achieve! I have given it 4 stars because the unresponsive issue and lag have been fixed but it still needs work..Version: 1.4.2

Terrific appIt's just like "Painter" for the iPad!!! And that pretty much says it all. Much, much more than just a drawing program. This thing is a painting program! Absolutely wonderful. Can't wait to see where they take but for now it's just plan terrific..Version: 0

Fantastic app but has faults..This app is amazing!! I as the best set up and is so easy to use and navigate through, although, it does lag a bit which is a big down fall for me....Version: 1.4.7

Great appWhat a great app dose what it's suppose to do.Version: 1.0.5

FinallyDespite just a bit of sluggishness with big brushes with blend and smudge effects, a very excellent app. Might go buy the Mac version now..Version: 0

ArtrageMy first art app. Having a great time using it..Version: 1.1.6

Excellent App:) would recommend to everyone.Version: 2.1.5

Love thisI bought this about two hours ago, and I love it, I have completed an amazing painting with absolutely no art skills at all.. Get this.Version: 2.1.1

Worth the moneyI found out about this app a few hours ago, and it’s so addicting! I love to draw, and this app is another great way to draw or paint! I suggest this app to any who love to draw!.Version: 2.4.0

4.7 easily but...This app is phenomenal. The only thing that should be added is a selection option to the pencil only. Repositioning a stroke of paint or two that you don’t necessarily want to erase or paint over would indeed compromise what this app embodies as a digital version of traditional painting. Although I’ve only been using it for just a few month, I feel that it is revolutionary in that of its predecessors and will always be used in my arsenal of mediums. Well done Ambient Design Ltd.!!!.Version: 2.4.0

Amazing! So realistic its uncanny, the texture of the canvas, realism of the paint stokes, great for emulating multimedia art (pencil and pen tools are useless though). One bad thing would be a lack of a shade slider, which would be better then constantly swiping my hand back and forth on the color wheel..Version: 1.0.5

Beautiful art app - must have for any digital artistStill unique amongst its peers. Fantastic tools. Way less expensive than some other equal/ish apps. Done the distance for over ten years now? The mobile device technology has skyrocketed, and ArtRage hasn't missed a beat. Thank you Ambient 🙏.Version: 2.4.0

It's GreatDidn't think I needed another "art" app, but saw this app inadvertently when reviewing another product, looked interesting, looked at it in app store, downloaded it, used it for a while, and so far I recon it's a winner. Love the textures you can create. Love the variety of applicators. Love the pallet. It has a lot to offer..Version: 1.4.5

ArtRage is the best!I have tried almost all of the iOS painting apps and ArtRage is just the best! The Apple Pencil creates a huge advantage. There is no difference in the techniques that I would use with ‘real’ paints because ArtRage with the Apple Pencil feels very natural, and I don’t have any harsh solvents to breathe or brushes to clean! ArtRage is one of the few iOS painting apps that will allow a reference pic on-screen while I work. All in all, ArtRage really works well for me! Thanks!.Version: 2.4.0

For a $1 more, Inspire Pro is 10x betterI honestly can't believe how slow ArtRage runs on my iPad 2 compared to other apps. Sure the paint looks amazing and all (good job), but those paintings in the screenshots must have taken weeks to complete at this rate! The speed is annoying and frustrating, and so are the random crashes that make you lose all your work. Although having less tools, Inspire Pro is a lot better for painting..Version: 1.3.1

Fun, versatile, but does crash sometimesI really like this app, great for painting on the go (lifesaver with my long commutes). There are a couple of things that do occasionally go wrong though - crashes a bit, especially if I'm doing shading work. Colour samples disappear sometimes - I've taken to creating a layer for swatches in drawing. Also, I love the chalk option but a blending stick option would make it perfect - none of the other tools blend the chalk as I'd like, it would be great to get a bit more precision. All that aside, this is one of the best drawing apps out there - tracing is fantastic btw..Version: 1.4.7

Really goodDon't go for anything else on the iPad, this does it all and has a great interface. The only thing it lacks is zoom. There's plenty of zoom, but sometimes, when you need those details, they're just to far out to get the quality you want on them. Please: Add more zoom so I can finish my painting! :).Version: 1.4.5

This app is amazingAfter using the app for 2+ years now; i can safely say it is the best arty app i have ever downloaded, many good features and tools laid out nicely on the screen helps a lot :) i may not be the best at drawing/painting but this app has helped me improve greatly. There are issues with undo and for some reason i can no longer play music and use the app at the same time :( but im sure these can be fixed soon and i will wait patiently for the next update. Keep up the good work..Version: 1.4.4

Hyperbole control in effect: (as best as I can)I'm going to try very hard not to sound overly enthusiastic... I got artrage2.5 with my wacom pen tablet a while ago, never did I expect (or admittedly wish) I'd see this on iPad. It's awesome. Finding out it's available for iPad? best iPad-owning day yet, despite the fact I mainly use iPad for gaming. If you like art and you're trying to find the best app (there's plenty of good ones out there - sketchbook pro is good)... I'll save you the effort and money... Buy artrage Thank you so much ambient design, hand on heart, this has put a smile so large on my face it actually hurts. Thanks guys.Version: 0

I love itI love this app a lot and it's worth it but it needs one thing that I use for my art all the time is shapes if you can add that then I will be really happy..Version: 2.1.1

Great app!I have Artrage on my PC & laptop and I've been just as impressed by the iPad version. Outstanding range of tools and great fine tuned control over colour and effects - plus sensitive interpretation of stylii input - make it easy to get professional results. I rate this as one of the top iPad painting applications..Version: 1.1.6

GreatGreat app. as good as the original. a mixer would be great..Version: 0

WOW!!!!!This app blew me away on the Mac for its realisticness, and Ambient have effortlessly transferred that phenomenal ability to the iPad. I'm a junkie for painting apps and you've never seen one as realistic or easy to use as ArtRage. No matter what your skill level you will be creating works of art that you won't believe you did..Version: 0

Brilliant Art App!Can't fault it, everything's great, I've been using it for ages now and can't do without it. Love to see a text option, maybe on the next update guys! Like to c the option of saving it on a higher resolution. But apart from these to issues much better than other more traditional apps like Procreate. Artrage is a lot easier to use!.Version: 1.6.2

Most realisticI tried a number of higher rated products, that have more features, but none came close. From my tests, and looking at samples created online, nothing else really looks as close to real watercolours and oils, and that is what I was looking for. You have to create your own palette, which is a pain - I just downloaded a picture of a palette from Winsor and Newton and with the"tap to hold sample color" feature enabled I created one. Even with some limitations, I had to rate this product as 5 stars..Version: 2.4.0

Thank you artrageAmazing!!!.Version: 2.1.1

Nice painting app, some UI quirksThe painting works nicely. 3D Touch allows varying width of lines. I like how I can doodle with a real pen, take a picture, and set it as a multiply layer and start coloring. I have an iPhone 8 with big text setting, and the color picker got cut off a bit on the left. The “ArtRage” menu fills the screen completely, and the cancel button is obscured by the “preference” button..Version: 2.3.1

Needs bigger brushesI like this app a lot. It has great tools to work with. The only thing that bothers me is that when I use a large resolution the brushes only go so big. They need to increase..Version: 2.1.5

Best art app everI love my art apps, but most of them can be pretty basic, even the top of the line ones. But this one has practically everything, it beats all the rest hands down. I bought it last night and just can't get enough of it. Congrats on the great job..Version: 0

The fun of real paint without the mess!Or the expense. Being able to just squirt paint onto the canvas and smoosh it around is great fun. My only complaint it that the rounds do not seem to behave exactly as a round should at the end of a stroke. There is not enough tapering off, especially for those who would shape their brushes especially for that purpose. I have fiddled with the settings and cannot seem to do fix this..Version: 2.3.3

Lovely BUT ...Great program, looks lovely, great interface, lovely range of tools, takes a bit of getting used to and does freeze up at times. Going to produce sone pics and see how it fares.Version: 1.4.7

GoodJust a few weeks ago I was able to turn the picture with my fingers but now I have to turn my whole iPad but other than that it’s an amazing app!!.Version: 2.4.0

If you are an artist - this app is for you!I've been using this program for almost a year an have completed number of painting projects. I must tell - it's simply amazing. It includes all tools painter may need, various canvas and paper. In iPad 3 version max resolution have been increased to 2048x2048. I Like all the available app features. ArtRage has great website with galleries and various forums. You can show your work an get an opinion. There is no other app which will give you that much for this price..Version: 1.4.7

Great program!I love using it and have never had it crash actually, I draw my cartoony characters and love adding textures and blending. Easy to use and really just an amazing app!.Version: 2.4.0

This app is great but...This app is amazing and has some amazing features the colours and tools are so realistic and helpful I think a way to improve this app would be to add shapes because when I wanted to make a comic I had to draw everything myself.Version: 2.3.4

DecentNice app, quite comprehensive, but missing an important tool for people who like to sketch with chalk - a finger blending tool - a palette knife does not do the job. Also would be really great to have straight line tool. And finally, the ability to sort the gallery in a different order..Version: 1.4.5

Fantastic art programWhether you are using the mobile or the desktop version of this software, as an experienced user for many years, I can honestly say that this is the best art software that I have used. The painting and blending tools are very natural and the interface is incredibly intuitive..Version: 2.1.2

This is the closest you can get to drawing on a real sheet or paper on the iPad!This is the closest you can get to drawing on a real sheet or paper on the iPad! At first sight, a lot of people tought it wasn't digital. I Love this app, it's different of Procreate and sketchbook but it's its own beast!.Version: 2.4.0

5 starI love this app. Best painting/mixed media package I have used. I've tried inspire and brushes but they just don't offer the mixed media facilities you get with Art Rage. Favourite features include, layers, reference image feature, canvas picker and of course the vast array of customisable brushes/pens. I'm giving this 5 stars for two reasons: not only is a great app but the customer service is good too. I first bought this app on my mac and loved it - i got it discounted with a wacom pen and it worked out fantastic value. I then wanted to install it on an older mac and the version didn't work. I contacted the company and they kindly sent me a free link to an old version. I have confidence in this app and that they will continue to improve it. It's great!.Version: 1.3.1

Bigger Brushes Please!I like this app a lot. Better medium simulation than any other app on the iPad (with the exception of the water color in Tayasui Sketch). I find the interface intuitive and non-intrusive, could be a little deeper in places, but a pleasure to work with (unlike Paint Storm Studio which is total nightmare on a tablet ). Really love the brush engine, but the brushes are way too small at their largest size! The desktop version lets you scale the brushes to 500% which is useable though even that could be larger. On the iPad you can type in a larger % but it snaps back to 100% . Also the desktop version has close gap slider for the fill tool, why it’s not in the iPad version is a mystery. Another mystery is why exported multi-layer PSDs open with single layer in most apps (Art Studo Pro opens them layered and saves PSDs that other apps can open properly). The omission of layer masks and folders is unfortunate, but it’s the lack of large brushes that keep me from a 5 star rating..Version: 2.4.0

RealisticI have all the art and painting apps and this it by far the most realistic not the most technical but its like using real tools and gives amazing results. The only down side is a few of the tools are a bit slow..Version: 1.4.7

Phenomenal! This isn't a regular computer painting program. This simulates real painting with various materials including oil and watercolor paint. It is as hard to do as using the real materials. So you might not want to buy it since it costs a fair bit. And you definitely don't want to start with this one if you've never painted on the tablet before. Get a free one first. Regular computer painting programs have all kinds of characteristics that make it way easier to paint with them then with real paint. If you already know how to paint with oils this will blow your mind. It even has tube paint that you can then squish down with the palette knife. Seriously..Version: 1.6.6

The most realistic painting appI have a desktop version of Artrage as well, and this app for iPad comes in handy when I just don't want to sit in front of the PC. Just it is as not as fast as desktop one but it's fine, with new iPads and a better technology in a year or so it will run extremely well. When going out, I take photos directly from this app and use them as reference images for my paintings - that is so convenient! Color blending amazed me the most same as in desktop version. I wish I had the iPad and this app when I was a kid I would've spent hours playing with it. - don't have to be a pro artist to use it =) I simply enjoy making some random stuff to relax my mind..Version: 1.5.1

Almost perfect..I'm an artist and I love this app, but can you make BIGGER brush sizes PLEASE?!!!!!!! It's driving me crazy! I wish I could set the brush sizes to above the 100% limit. It's really frustrating. Otherwise the app is great..Version: 1.6.2

ExcellentThis is a really lovely app. It's easy to use, due to a simple layout. Excellent brushes, pens, there's even a scraper tool! All can be resized quickly and easily. My only concern is the delay, hopefully it can be updated to do what it does without lag. Otherwise very very nice app. Realistic oils, crayons, pencils, etc..Version: 1.0.4

Best art app I have ever usedBest one, if measures, auto shapes and stencils are available , this will be complete app..Version: 1.4.7

Stop no furtherPainting apps, I've tried them all, from the great brushes to the...well some of the apps are pretty poor. Art rage is without doubt the best art/painting app on the market if nothing else for It's ease of use and instinctual feel. I'm in my final year on a fine art ba honours degree and have done practically all my sketch and rough painting experiments on artrage,it frees up so much time by being the app with the digital paints and mediums closest to the real thing, plus it's clean convenient and cheaper than oil paint when playing with colour. Highest recommendation worth twice as much as they are charging..Version: 0

Good but....I love this app, and everything about it, its soo useful! But three problems: one, I can’t position the tracing image under what I’m doing, I can’t add more then one tracing image, and there is no solid colour option, they all have texture. It would be extra good if there is a gradient setting, that you can pick two colours, and position the gradient point on the page where it switches. This app is amazing, and would be better with these!.Version: 2.4.0

Best painting and drawing App I've foundThere are a lot of sketching apps out there but this one, for me, was the first that honestly felt like I was using a sketchbook. The rest have a definite photoshop feel, which is great, but this app really made feel like I was using oils on a canvas! Huge amounts of variety with tools and effect, all that feel very realistic. Also like the ability to 'pin' a photo to the board to work from. Took some playing around to find all the hidden gems, but well well worth the money. My favourite sketchbook and pencil case replacement app by a country mile! Buy it..Version: 1.0.5

Love this appThis app is fabulous! Looks like real paint on canvas and the way you can blend the paint is fantastic. I am no artist but I love painting with this :) even better because I think I read somewhere that it is kiwi made :) keep coming with more updates guys, love it!.Version: 1.4.3

Love it, but there are a few bugs...I just love this app, I’ve been using it since 2012. But lately there have been a lot of things that have caused me a lot of trouble with it. One is that it keeps on resetting the thumbnails so I can’t see what anything is. I used to be able to see the drawing before I opened it, but now it’s just an artrage logo rather than a picture. This makes it very hard to find what I’m looking for as my titles tend to be vague and I have a lot of paintings. Occasionally, the app will crash for no reason and my work will be lost, which forces me to save constantly. I implore you to fix these, it’s severely hindering me in what I can do with ArtRage (I use it for school and a webcomic, and I hate losing progress and taking forever to find things..Version: 2.4.0

Great AppArtRage is great. As a well seasoned Adobe Creative Suite user, I wanted something with a little bit more depth than other Apps on the iPad. Despite this, it's easy to use and the paint effects are very authentic. Highly recommended..Version: 1.4.5

Great app!I love this app, made some really great stuff with it. Does sometimes slow down a bit after I have made a lot of quick strokes, but not really a problem. Love the option of having a photo as a trace background which can even pick the colours for you. Really allowed me to work on my brush strokes and since I am usually pretty crap at portraits; I now made a great portrait of my dad :-) I have tried Procreate as well, but I prefer this one slightly; the UI is just a but more natural, and when you are arty fartying away you don't want to deal with an annoying UI..Version: 1.4.5

Real media heaven!! Worth easily double the price!!Absolutely superb and lives up to its promises! The way you can pin reference photos to the drawing board and move/resize/rotate/hide them at will is just the icing on the cake. Genius!!! The only very minor bug I've noticed is that picking a colour from a reference photo seems to show the correct colour as you move your finger across it, but upon releasing your finger seems to pick a point just below, so you end up with the wrong colour.. Picking colours from the painting itself is fine though.. no doubt this bug will be fixed in the next update. The UI is definitely well thought out, intuitive and smart, I love it. Initially I thought it was missing a decent way to blend, but the palette knife tool covers everything from scrapes to very smooth blending... it's got everything I wanted in a painting app and more..Version: 0

Totally ThrilledNot only is this the most versatile art app I have tried, the service when I emailed was first rate. This is the only app I have found that create texture just like a real acrylic paint. The colours and brushes are wonderful. Try this app I highly recommend it..Version: 1.4.7

Yellow and blue make gray?I love Procreate but it seems to be missing a realistic paint blending simulation. I heard Art Rage would be able to simulate real paint but unfortunately, like Procreate, the iOS version of Art Rage produces a dull gray purple-ish color when mixing blue and yellow. I blame myself for not doing the proper research before buying. Maybe an update will add this feature..Version: 2.4.0

Put some hard-working in this app and we five stars! In my opinion, the only one of its kind is procreate, but I also think your interface and layout is pretty amazing. It’s sad to see this at 3.4 when it should be 5.0 As many others have said, this app has so much potential to be so much greater than Procreate… Chin up my friend I gave you five stars and hopes that you will update this app, and make it great again, drawing apps need some competition to make iPad. The preferred tablet for artists..Version: 2.4.0

Excellent painters appExcellent App thoroughly recommend it for amateur artists and app users, just right for sitting in your arm chair and doing a bit of "painting." I has the best range of paint tools and effects I have so far come across, it even has an effect that simulates the effect of painting with oils and acrylics, I have not tried all the brushes etc. but out of the 7 painting apps I have tried so far this is the best for artists, rather than sci-fi effects and computer artists The other app I have tried is "Procreate" but it's for those who like computers, but the designers have done a wonderful job of making this ArtRage such a user friendly app for those of use who are artists and not computer geeks. Shame about the name ArtRage it's so misleading for people like myself who dislike the word 'rage'.Version: 1.6.2

Awesome ❤️❤️❤️Incredible paint app highly recommended!!!.Version: 2.2.2

I've been it's the best forever, glad they heard! No better painting program. Period. I have every last one. And i work for a web site that does App Reviews, so I mean EVERY one, and nothing comes close in design, features and implementation. If there was ever a 6 star app it's ArtRage. Also idiot proof. My mom the professional artist but SO not into anything related to computer at 65, and my 7 year old son had no trouble figuring out how to use most eatures without any instruction. My fave features: import a photo. If you paint directly on it instead of starting a new layer the canvas becomes wet paint! Or turn a photo into a sketch, import that, and airbrush, watercolor or mix media on the sketch. Save, reimport, now that's wet paint to be blended too! So many ways to use it, for pros and amateurs alike..Version: 1.0.4

Great painting overall with some improvements neededThis app is very unique in terms of real painting simulation. The colour mixing and brushes really works, and that's all I expect from an digital painting software. I think the most important feature missing is saving in the background. I can't remember how many times I've lost my progress by switching app or putting my device to sleep, and I'm using the iPad Pro. It's getting very annoying. Another improvement would be movable panels, for example moving the colour picker to top corner of the screen..Version: 2.1.5

Mindblowing!!!Well, the problem is being effusive enough to do this app justice without sounding hyperbolic or unreliable. This app simulates real paint on canvas with superb oil/acrylic paint and watercolor paint simulation in addition to pencil and ink among other tools. ArtRage makes work from photos easy with it's sophisticated layer functions, it has a very well conceived and easy to use interface, the developer has an active and helpful customer support forum website, and the app has not once crashed or hung-up on my old hand-me-down entry level iPad. This app is is so far beyond other painting apps for iPad as to defy any comparison. ArtRage is like a full desktop application, I find it superior in natural media simulation to the desktop version of Corel Painter. ArtRage simulates wet-in-wet paint realistically and paint builds up on the selected canvas texture naturally and can simulate impasto as desired. I wish only that I could export images from the workspace as well as the gallery area of the app. If you want try the ArtRage natural media simulation the developer website has a free Starter Edition desktop version you can try but I think this app is an absolute steal and you should just go ahead and buy it. I have tried nearly all the paint and draw apps available for iPad and I can not recommend forcefully enough that if you want a true natural media simulation paint app this is truly your only choice..Version: 1.0.4

Best sketch art app!I am amazed how good is this app. It’s really worth the prize and the UI is simple and intuitive. Also works well with old iPads..Version: 2.4.0

Beyond awesomeIf anyone had every told me you could paint using an ipad (Pro) just like you could on a canvas I would not believe it. But, this app comes so close - unbelievable how well you can paint using this app. Great job guys!!!.Version: 2.4.0

It will amaze youI first used this on a multiple touch screen at CeBit in Hanover and I have to say the iPad version is equally fun. This is as close as you'll get to a real canvas..Version: 0

Enormous untapped potentialArtRage on iOS (iPad Pro) is promising in many ways but often fails to deliver in the more nuanced areas. It is absolutely GREAT if you are using the OIL Brush (which is amazing), and don’t really interact with the other tools like the Watercolor Brush or Pastels. But even with the Oil Brush it is nearly impossible to control the degree of blending to other colors. For instance, if you have painted with a medium tone color and then want to add a strong highlight tone on top, you will be severely limited to the degree that it will lighten, unless you use the Insta-Dry, which lays down a flat non-blending color on top, and then you have to switch back to the Oil brush to blend it in somewhat at the edges. However, I don’t to give the impression that this app is bad because it’s not, it’s just VERY limited when compared to other apps (like Procreate). At the time of writing this (September 2020) this app has not been updated by the developer for TWO years. They seem to have spent more time enhancing the desktop version of the app ($75) rather than modestly improving the iOS version. What ArtRage does really well is layers and their degrees of transparency; merging layers, multiple undo’s, the Pencil as something unto itself, and using the roller to lay flat colors then awesomely blending them together with the Palette Knife. The pastel tool is lackluster with poor definition and the paint tube is just a gimmick. But I sincerely hope the developer will improve the blending of colors when using the oil brush, and combining those colors with the watercolors. This is an app with enormous untapped potential..Version: 2.4.0

Save the old one please? There is another, older version of this app, that holds many drawings of mine. It doesn’t work with iOS 14. Can it be refurbished for the new OS, at least enough for me to export my old doodles? It doesn’t need more functionality than an “export all” button..Version: 2.4.0

Intuitive interface and great prototyping toolI purchased this app soon after getting my iPad 3 because I already have the iPod and PC versions that I have been using for some time and am happy with them. As others have said, the iPad version does sometimes have a bit of lag on some tools but they are not the ones I use and most of my work can be achieved using other tools. The main positive feature for me is the intuitive and easy to learn layout and realistic paint effects and am quite happy to pay the price for this. It is a fantastic tool for prototyping real paintings and colours without all the mess and cleaning up..Version: 1.4.1

Brilliant app, but slowThis is a fantastic app with some serious potential, especially with it referencing ability. I haven't seen this in any other art app before now (and I have a few). I love to use use it for the referencing to make quick and simple sketches before finishing up in procreate. The brushes and paints are lovely to use and have great textures....the only flaw with the app is its speed. For any of the nicer effects like oil or water colour paints its reaction time to brush strokes is pretty slow. For now, great for sketching simple designs with smaller pencils, but has potential should the developers put some more power not it :-).Version: 1.4.7

No more updates to buggy appI first bought ArtRage for the desktop many years ago. Fast forward to the app on the iPad. Not the same. Buggy - example, the Roller tool. The last three of the four presets respond the same when using the Apple Pencil. When using a finger, however, they behave as expected. And no stencils? Really? This combined with the fact that the developers have now brought out a new version of AR (instead of fixing the old one) means that this app is essentially dead and will never be updated. Sorry, but you’ll get no more money out of me..Version: 2.4.0

It's great!I love this product. It's very realistic the way the paint mixes and it is possible to get very nice results. It is a bit laggy but I blame that more on the hardware and it will only get better in the near future. Great product especially if you enjoy firing up the iPad and doing quick 5 minute sketches..Version: 1.6.9

Love the effectsI love this app. The pallet knife really makes some interesting effects ,I like it with the oil paint and canvas texture also. I have done a few paintings that looked like traditional mediums with this app but haven’t been able to get them types of effects with any other programs or apps. For what I’m doing this works very well..Version: 2.4.0

NiceGood tools, nice customization, smart interface. Keep up with the good work..Version: 1.4.3

3 1/2 stars...It was a really AMAZING app until the last update! It now crashes and I can even choose anything with out it freezing! 😡😪 Please fix.Version: 1.6.0

OMG amazing appI've had this a couple of day and I absolutely love it! Very easy to use, very fun and love the range of colours and tools you can use! Just a suggestion, could you make a tool just sort of for outlining, thicker than a pencil, and a Tinsy bit smaller than a paint brush that doesn't blend in with anything you put beneath it? Please? Just like a normal handwriting pen or something? Thanks this is an absolutely outstanding game and I love using it! Thanks!!!!.Version: 1.6.2

A great app; loses a single star for an Undo errorUpdated 29/12/15, v 2.1.1 Sporadic Undo - continuing with its 'mostly solved'. Now only becomes an issue when I switch to a different tool (say, from erase to watercolour), and then attempt to undo the erase. Flicking to a third tool and then back to watercolour solved this after some more hopeful tapping on my part. Otherwise this program is practically perfect in every way. I might like to see either an ability to hit record partway through making a drawing (possibly so I could then 'undo' all changes to that point and then redo them) so that a recording could be made which would interact with my copy of ArtRage 4. This would be especially handy as I am currently working with pieces which involve externally-produced lineart, and the act of importing the lineart to work with seems to preclude the use of the record function. Updated 26/12/15, v 2.0.2 Pixelpoint disconnect-reconnect issues when changing to a different app and back again - solved! (to my utter delight). Program now freezes only for a good reason - solved! (such as my working on a file with too many layers, shhh). Crash frequency - well it hasn't happened to me yet which is a great deal more than I could say about 2.0.1's 'four crashes in an hour' adventure (even with no other apps running) - solved! Colour picker - now actually works! Solved! Sporadic undo - mostly solved. Has returned to haunt/refuse to work with me only twice since this update. A grand improvement over the 'nope' which was 2.0.1's attempt at undo. I'm still unsure what causes the issue, but suspect it may be Jot Pixelpoint's problem. Bonus round: There is now a save button which appears after a few edits! I'm thrilled! I'm about to update to 2.1.1, so watch this space. Updated: 26/10/15, v 2.0.1: Adonit Jot Pixelpoint now works almost perfectly, though disconnects and must be reconnected each time I change the window (to switch music or reply to Skype, for example) and then return to the still-open program. Program itself occasionally freezes for no reason, resulting in the last several unsaved changes being completely wiped (iPad Air 1, still on iOS 8.1; this may improve on 9); crash frequency unaffected by having other apps running simultaneously. I'm not used to needing to save every few changes on an iPad and of course there is no simple 'save' keyboard shortcut the way there is on a desktop; a small 'save' button which is easily accessed might be better (though naturally I'd prefer to not be dealing with crashes at all). Undo button now works only sporadically, both in tapping the button in the app and using the Jot functionality. Sometimes the undo ceases to be an option whatsoever. Oh, and I can't work out how to do colour-picker. Have tried both with jot and with finger. Need to use the colour wheel alone to find it. The good news: GLITTER PEN! Altogether an excellent update for functionality, shame about its limitations. Awaiting a bug fix. <3 Original review: I've used each desktop version of ArtRage since 2.5 came out, and this is a perfect (albeit stripped down when compared to the desktop functionality) iPad port. My one and only gripe is that while it worked with the previous Adonit Jot Touch, this app doesn't (yet!) work with the Pixelpoint stylus edition. I say yet because a quick trip through the forums assures me that functionality for this stylus is scheduled for the next major update to this app. I await that update with bated breath. (I'd also like to see glitter in the next app update, and would willingly pay extra to unlock that function.) In the meantime, it would be nice if this app acknowledged the Pixelpoint at all, even as a standard non-Bluetooth stylus (I don't have this problem with my Jot Mini, which works fine. It's just the Pixelpoint which doesn't work)..Version: 2.1.1

CrosshairsThe app is almost perfect. The only thing I would strongly recommend is to include the option to have a crosshair that way I can better avoid going over the same lines. Other than that, a must buy for all artists..Version: 1.0.5

Very good, leaner than desktop versionIt would be very useful to have a few more things, like selections. In my opinion, the touch rejection could be significantly better. Despite having palm and touch rejection enabled, resting the palm on the screen frequently results in the drawing being zoomed, rotated and panned. This is a serious issue, but not serious enough not to get this excellent creative tool. Far more positives than negatives..Version: 2.4.0

ArtRageThank you, I really love the variety of options and ease of use, however, the app appears a bit unstable and has been "kicking me out" an annoying number of times. Hope this can be fixed. Would also love to see a sponge included amongst the selections..Version: 1.4.5

Brilliant ApplicationI'm very impressed with this app. A brilliant way to create art on my iPad with some very minor lag issues that cause no troubles for me. I whole heatedly recommend this application for anyone with a desire to create art with amazing paint dynamics and very good features hidden behind the scenes. 5 out of 5!.Version: 1.5.1

FantasticUnfortunately, it seems the devs have abandoned this app, - no update in two years. The app Apple is pushing is better in some areas and still behind this old dog in other areas. I have been using this on my iPad for years. Having tried most of the competition this is still my favorite. Has features the app Apple is pushing still lacks..Version: 2.4.0

ArtrageI've tried and tested a tonne of these drawing apps and this is one of the best I've used, loads of canvas's to choose from, lots of effects everything you could ask for. I've drawn cartoons, landscapes and portraits and it's managed everything I wanted to do with a drawing app, my kids love it too been able to import a photo and trace it is a godsend. The online forum and help is useful and inspiring..Version: 1.3.0

Sept. 2013 updateI love ArtRage, as an artist, it was my first digital play with creating art. I enjoyed it except for the occasional crash causing loss of unsaved work (remedied by saving more often). This latest update however is an annoyance and I can't for the life of me think of why you guys changed the color sampler. I'm giving you four stars ... the sampler definitely costs you a star ;) All in all a great App..Version: 1.6.0

And then, Artrage came to the iPad...This is one of the best painting applications to have ever been translated into an iPad app! Seriously! If you don't believe me, get a demo copy of this software in windows or Mac, and then come back here to get the same experience on the tablet. Artrage is one of the best and most inexpensive painting apps out there. It lets you select many elements in your drawings, including even the texture and grain of the virtual paper you paint on. The different tools have pressure levels and sizes. I had hoped the day Artrage came to the iPad would come soon.... My wish has come true! Go ahead... Get this and enjoy unleashing your creativity! Jeff.Version: 0

Mostly brilliant but....I have been playing around with this for a few days now and love how intuitive, powerful and just downright fun it is to use. It is the closest I have felt to the actual experience of putting real paint on to an actual canvas. In fact, I recommend spending the first hour or so just loading up an oil brush and enjoying the feel of daubing and smearing it around, watching it mix and interact with the layers below. I would heartily recommend it, although with a few small caveats. My main gripe (and the reason for only 4 stars) is the lack of ability to create or import custom brushes. There are effects that I can create easily in Procreate or Photoshop that I would love to be able to bring to ArtRage but there is no way of doing this. The toolbox is great, but the option to delete or hide unused tools would be welcome I love the reference picture tool and can’t understand why all painting apps don’t have it. Whilst I realise that ArtRage has always been a primarily desktop affair I do believe that with a few tweaks this could be a truly great IPad app. As more and more digital artists go mobile ArtRage could, with some imagination and a few killer updates, be THE go-to app for a realistic and enjoyable painting experience. I would love to see this and come back and award it the final star..Version: 2.4.0

Don’t trust negative reviews!Clearly many reviewers have not put any time or effort into learning to use this product before giving it a negative review! It’s an extremely capable and very mature art product, which does do many of the things people claim it doesn’t do, and does them in style. A general review score of 2.9 is proof that review scoring is to be taken with a pinch of salt! It’s an excellent application, and you need to trust in its heritage!.Version: 2.4.0

So much potential! Just started and enjoying it so far!By far the most traditional art app I’ve found . The controls are intuitive , but I would love to see color assignments “stick” to a tool (such as graphite grey for pencil, while brushes keep the color I was using on them). Another “easy” feature that’s missing is the ability to have a pallete sampler to easily pick some base colors and paint away. Another feature would be allowing to mix pallet colors to blend new shades to bring it even more in line with traditional painting).Version: 2.4.0

Good but slowThis is good for artists who want to use realistic traditional media in a drawing app. The brushes, paints, pencils, pastels etc and papers are very good and simulate their real world counterparts. Colours can be blended very well and look awesome. The GUI is easy to use and brush settings are accessible on screen permanently to speed up work flow. There are the usual features such as blending modes and layers. However the biggest problem is the very slow response of the brush strokes even on an iPad 3rd Gen. This happens a lot if the brush size is big and if you choose to use watercolour or oils. If the brush size is reduced then the performance is still slow but acceptable. I hope the developers increase performance some how for future versions because this app has a lot of potential..Version: 1.4.7
