✓ Seriously fantastic!This is easily one of my favorite apps! I watch a lot of Korean television, but as my Korean is less than stellar, I need subtitles. Unfortunately, Viki and Dramafever can't really keep up with my insatiable appetite for more programming, so I download a lot of what they don't have available. Therein lies the problem. iPhone, Roku, PS3, none of them offer a streaming solution that will let me play .srt files so that I can have subs, at least not til this streamer came along! It's so hard to find hard subs cause fansubbers make an effort to shut down anyone who does them, so it's literally the only way I can watch my shows without being tied to the computer. My only complaint is, if my boyfriend has to shut down the computer for whatever reason, if it is in the middle of processing a file, you have to delete it and start over. ✓ Not quite what I hoped for - NO TV OUTFirst the positive - I love VLC. I have used the free media player for years and just updated to the new release. Because of all my positive experiences with VLC I'm not too upset by the misrepresentation. I loaded VLC streamer on my iphone 3g expecting it to provide TV out capability. The App clearly states that it is compatible with iphone running iOS 4.0 or later. This is not completely true. Older iphones don't have the TV out capacity - which happens to be the only reason I purchased this App - that is to get TV out capacity. I expected to be able to access my entire media library and stream directly to my iphone and then connect to my TV. After finding that it doesn't work, I discovered that it is a known issue and that full VLC streamer capability is only available on the iphone 4 and not any of the older iphones despite the fact that VLC has it showing in the requirements section that it is compatible with iphones running iOS 4.0 or later. I think you should highlight the limited capability within the requirements section to prevent further confusion. I have benefited from your free VLC media player so please accept this purchase as a donation. Thanks again for your great products..Version: 2.01
✓ Pretty decentGenerally very good, and really the only practical option for mobile playback of MKV files, but 2 things that could do with improving, the first fairly major, the second pretty minor: firstly it takes an absolute age for the companion vlc streamer utility for Mac to convert the files and copy them, over to the iPad - far in excess of any read/write or network bandwidth limitations; really if you plan to watch a movie on the go, you need to think about it the day before and leave it copying overnight. Second the remaining time display can sometimes be inaccurate, showing a shorter time than really remains. Other than that though, very good..Version: 2.66

✓ Works great with Apple TVIf you have your movie collection in multiple formats the ideal thing to do would be to format them all for Apple TV (but keep your originals) but in the mean time while you never get around to that VLC Streamer is the app for you. Through the years I have collected a rather large movie collection. And as hard drive space became cheaper I began to make digital copies to keep on my hard drive. And through the years formats changed from one to another and I expect them to keep changing as hard drive space gets cheaper and playback methods improve. That's why VLC is so great it plays just about any format and with the streamer you log into your computer go to the hard drive you have your movies stored on and you pick out what you want to play and then tap the button to send the video to any of your apple tv's you have set up in your house. It works great. I don't remember what it cost but its worth every penny. In short it gives you the simplest way to access movies off any of your hard drives and play them back through Apple TV in any format. Or through iOS devices..Version: 2.70
✓ Still the best, if sometimes flawedThis is the best streaming app in terms of functionality I’ve found on iPhone. GoodPlayer, “real” VLC, etc have interesting features and potentially easier setup but get bogged down with weird buffering problems, or bizarre interface choices. VLC streamer works way more often than others and it has great interface customization Search can be a bit iffy if your library gets large, but the tagging system is solid. Would love to see search work with larger libraries (or for the keyboard to dismiss reliably) but again it’s a trivial problem. The need to preprocess videos is a small price for them to reliably work on the phone and the access control via a simple password is helpful. Bottom line: it works!.Version: 6.21.2

✓ The best media player by a distanceHaving tried a bunch of media players both free and purchased, this is by far the best I have found. It is a touch fiddly to set up depending on your firewall setup, but once running I found it worked great for both Vob files and mkv's. The latter in particular was impressive as it is capable of reducing the quality of HD MKV's to a level That makes them watchable on your device whatever their original quality. All other apps I tried including 8player flexplayer proplayer etc either could not play the files at all or played them back all jerky. Found that pausing and resuming worked unlike many other players that just wont let you navigate through a file and keep sending you back to beginning. Some streaming was not quite perfect but everything was watchable hence 4 stars. Also, interface for copying files over was great in that you can use either computer or app to do it, only issue is that you can only select one file at a time. At £1.49 this is the best value easiest and most functional app I have found for watching vobs and mkv's.Version: 2.10

✓ Works great on smaller sized files....Got this as a solution for streaming avi's and mkv's to my Apple TV. Works a treat as long as the file size is under 1GB and your not trying to stream at the higher end (ie HD...). Anything over that seems to get too heavy on the app/helper app on the mac and it constantly needs to buffer, to the point where if I want to watch something, I'll set it up a couple of hours beforehand so as not to be disappointed that its not working properly! ✓ Great ProductI am an old hand with this product and swear by it. You have a buffering problem ? It's not VLC it's an issue with your setup/wifi... You have a conversion program ? That all depends on the format your converting and the size of the movie... I use Ultimate Video Convertor for all my regular large movies to convert to (iPad/MP4) then get VLC to swallow them up. I have over 450 full movies running thru VLC and works great every time. Only issue is if my WiFi drops, all I do is close VLC and start again. Am an old hand at this and would recommend VLC Streamer to everyone. I have even managed to access VLC thru another software called "Go to My PC"... Took a bit of doing but works great. Recommend download speeds of 125mb. I get 152mb at all my usual locations so no problems for me. Everyone else, just work around your issues. Common sense and think in a straight line. ✓ Awesome supportI use this app to put movies from my mac onto my iPad for when i'm travelling (without having to convert them or add them to iTunes). I went to upload round 2 of movies but the app couldn't find my mac. It was a really simple issue which was resolved by restarting my router but I emailed support for guidance. They got back to me in minutes and suggested some things to try which worked and I have now got a fully working app again. This is the kind of support you would hope for but not expect! ✓ Fantastic AppI use this app nearly everyday. I use a AV connector with a HDMI lead and watch movies and TV programmes on a 40" TV. The picture quality is impressive and the streaming rate is brilliant. I also travel intercontinental and rather than watch movies or programmes because there is nothing else this app has allowed me to load a good eight hours worth of entertainment. ✓ Great addition for a htpcI primarily use this to stream tv shows I record on my windows 7 media center pc. I record shows from CBS which I can't play on my iPad due to the whole flash thing not being supported. But, WMC records it and then my vlc streamer app is used to convert and stream it to the iPad. Watching tv in bed or anywhere in the house on wifi is convenient. My movies are also now available from the htpc as well making my iPad all the more fun to have. I do suggest strongly you try setting up the free version of this first. Do understand there are technical requirements to getting this all to work including having a pc with disk space, processing power, and of course source media to work with. I don’t know if you already have a good way to play your video library (all formats and codecs) on the iPods/iPhones/iPad, but you should check out “VLC Streamer”. When you first launch it, it will link you to a little helper installer for the PC or Mac that you must download and install. This will let you browse all of your drives contents and queue movies for streaming to the Apple iOS devices. You should run that on the PC with the fastest processor, even if it isn’t actually hosting the video files(it just needs to have a drive mapped to the video files). Then you just launch the iOS App, pick a movie and bingo! Its really awesome. Instant access to any video file on your network. It can even download it to your device for watching away from home once the stream conversion is finished. The add-free version is $1.99 – definitely worth it. Since the latest (and crappy iOS update) I do have some occasional problems starting movies. They Queue up but don't start. It's usually when I'm in bed on the second floor of my house so maybe it's just a connection issue but I do have the best that Comcast has to offer. Just curious if others have run into this? Sometime restarting my iPad or deleting and restarting the movie does work. What an amazing app! However I've had two films stop buffering at around 38 minutes in. Also I've had issues with the screen going blank if I pause the film for a while and then I haven't been able to get the image back, but I think this might have more to do with the video-out on the iPad more than VLC streamer software. ✓ AmazingI used Orb for my streaming needs untill last week when I happened upon the free version of this app. My VLC had stopped working and I searched for it again to see if I could get it going and I found this. The problem with Orb is it is very slow to do anything, and when it does it drops out alot, it also wont let you seek more than once. This app is none of those things, its fast, it lets you seek, its rock solid and the most amazing thing about it, the developer replies, in person, to any mails sent. He also puts up latest info in a discrete corner of the app that you can ignore if you wish to. All in all this is a fantastic app and the only streaming app you'll ever need. - oh and for those who are saying they need a helper app on their Ipad. The helper app goes on your PC you dufus'. ✓ Pretty near perfect.I have a rather large video collection on my Mac, but I like to be able to sit in another room and be near the family when I’m relaxing. With VLC Streamer, I can sit anywhere in my house and stream videos from my Mac to my new iPad Mini over WiFI. If I want, I can also download vids for watching when not on my home WiFi LAN. I haven’t explored it all the way, so am not quite sure how to change the subtitles or voice tracks, and there doesn’t seem to be a specific playlist feature, but I can browse my library from the iPad with no issue. The helper app on the desktop works under El Capitan beta, and the iOS apps work on iOS 9 beta without a hitch. I would have been willing to pay twice as much for this app than I did. The dev is responsive to questions and very helpful, and he’s actively working on his apps. I have no doubt that this will only improve to be best-in-class in the near future..Version: 4.31

So when I bought the new iPad I thought I'd see if there was a VLC app that could stream the films I have on my laptop. To my delight there was and what's more it is also free. It works fantastically well and was a doddle to set up and extremely easy to use. As well as downloading the app you also need to download the streamer software to your computer. Again really straightforward. For a nominal fee there is also an upgrade, which gets rid of the adds and allows you to upload films direct to your iPad, so you can watch them away from home and not have to convert them through iTunes. Well worth the money, especially considering the software developer has been providing and continues to provide free software. It requires a small program to run at the PC end then makes watching and transferring (in the paid version) of video files as easy as pie. The lies are transcoded in real time to a size and bandwidth suitable for the iPhone or iPad. These files can Aldo be copied over so making the video viewable when offline. For long plane trips this is a lifesaver! A minor quibble is that the software picks up the default video and subtitles from the original file - on a lot of downloaded files that may mean you don't get your preferred language. It would be nice to support a preferred language but apparently this may be a limitation of the VLC server and not the app. Support from the author has been instantaneous and there are frequent updates. I would like to see the ability to organize the media files a it more (at least into Movies and TV folders) to avoid having to scroll down a long list. ✓ Fantastic for streaming dive moviesFantastic app to stream movies from your PC to your iPad. it was easy to set up and the PC service can be set to run at boot up. It allows you to stream any movie on your PC to your iPad, even dive, which will not normally play on the iPad. the way you can browse from the iPad to see your library on the PC and then choose the quality setting and play it. Within a few seconds it starts to play, no need to wait for the movie to copy, which would take a while. I tested this on the highest quality video settings and medium audio and worked great. my son also played his online games with no slowdown for either of us. I did sometimes get a buffering on larger movie files near the start, but pausing it a few seconds or restarting it gave it a bigger downloaded buffer. The stretch option gives you full screen with minimal distortion of vertical stretching. If you hook up your iPad to your TV it should be a great way to stream movies to another room. My PC is fairly high spec and the CPU was running around 80% while streaming, so may be an issue on low spec systems..Version: 1.94

My iMac is in the downstairs office, my iPad sits on the bathroom sink as I have a bath. Takes about 10seconds to load the movie, then streams it fine for me. I use the high quality setting (there is a higher setting I don't use as I found it stuttered a bit) and have had no delay or stutters. There is also an option to save the movie to your iPad if you want to watch it away from your wifi connection. Just like the VLC for the computer, the application's ability to handle any type of video file makes it one of my most frequently used applications. VLC allows you to choose between several settings between low and high for both bandwidth and resolution, meaning that the Streamer gets to decide whether picture quality outweighs the extended wait for your video to begin. The simplicity means that I am streaming from my server (media pc) to my Ipad Over my wifi network, the strain on the server is large and you do need to install their vlcstreamer software onto the server, but once this is done I have not had an issue with this. I gave 4 Stars this rating because It would be better if I did not have to come into vlcstreamer each time to watch a movie, you have to use the program to watch your movies on your IPad, I would have liked to have them included into my video section and not be counted as app data. ✓ Excellent player, but has to transcodeThe good: player control is outstanding! It's as good as I've ever seen on any player, on any platform. App developer absolutely nailed the gesture-based control. Well done! The bad: as far as I can tell, this app has to create a transcoded version on my PC in order to stream. This doubles the amount of storage required for a given video, so that a 4GB video requires 4GB transcoded version, for instance. Multiply this by the number of vids on the hard drive, and…you get the idea. Additionally, the transcoding takes too long. My Core i7 CPU, running at 100%, requires 10-15 minutes per GB. (I realize this app can start streaming almost as soon as it starts transcoding, but I don't want the excess wear on my hard drive armature as it is forced to shuttle between what's written and what's being written. And there's still the mentioned drawback of doubling the storage space needed.) I would LOVE this app if it could stream on the fly!.Version: 5.51
✓ It worksI've tried lots of file streamers (across my home network). While this does have to copy the movie to its app on the host computer, then copy to the phone (ie, takes a bit of fluffing around on apple prods) it at least DOES WORK! :)) So, if you're a bit organised by nature, and set your list loading perhaps overnight, this will be PERFECT! Or streaming while at home will work great too!! Didn't strike any buffering problems on our modest home wifi... It's good!.Version: 4.12

✓ Really great appThis app is really, really great. I used to have to fiddle with iSquint to convert things so they were watchable on the iPad. No more! This does it in real time which is awesome. However, I did find that a lot of my files did have sound lag when I tried to watch it directly. I don't know if that's just a crappy wifi connection or a problem with the app. Once i download it to my iPad its perfectly synced though. One issue I have is that it needs to be left on for downloads to continue - it only continues for 5 minutes after auto lock turns on or you go to another app on the iPad. I would prefer background downloading until the file is finished downloading rather than just 5 minutes (I was downloading quite a few videos to the iPad for watching later). Otherwise it's a brilliant app..Version: 2.15

✓ Best media streamerVLC always seem to play any video format you throw at it which is why it's better than others. Would be good if I could play media directly from my nas drive however I can still access it through my computer on the app and everything works fine streaming from my nas to mac then to my iPad then i can airplay to my Apple TV.. ✓ Minor QuibblesThe app does what it says just download the appropriate helper program on to your PC or MAC point it at the directories you want to search and then it simply works converting on the fly for streaming or download. The quibbles refer to setting the resolution and bit rates. The best and easiest option is the simple version choice. However it is not immediately clear that you need only put your choice front and centre on the roller for the choice to be made. It should highlight the option just to make this clear to the user. Other than that a good WIFI connection is required if you want to use the HD option with any success on the new iPad. I have enjoyed using the app from the get go thoroughly recommended..Version: 2.15
✓ Very handy little media appA very user friendly app with smooth user interface on the phone and PC, pretty easy to set up at both ends. I use it for steaming movie files from my PC to my phone (iphone 5s) with a almost perfect stream. I do get the odd connection issue bug it could easily be the connection in my house not the apps fault. Occasionally I'll use the app to copy the movie file to my phone storage to watch out n about, like at work, and the VLC steamer handles that effortlessly as well.
