✓ A so-so appThis app is a convenient way to read magazines, but the interface and perhaps the coding could be improved. The interface always opens at the ‘shop’, and doesn’t seem to be possible to set it to open at your ‘library’. Downloads (in Australia) are slow, and resolution can be poor. Odd behaviour occurs when magnifying a page, often leading to a jump to some different page. Although cheaper than paper, recently it won’t load anything at all..Version: 6.4.10

✓ Serious regression in latest updateThere is a serious issue with the latest version (7.0.3) of the Pocketmags app; the Library view no longer works correctly. I can select a particular magazine and see the issues of that magazine I have purchased, but tapping an issue to read it no longer works. ✓ Quite bad compared to the competitionOk, I've been reading HiFi+ through the Apple Newsstand for quite awhile but it recently started failing an I couldn't load or read the latest edition reliably. When it did (briefly) it looked good. In desperation I downloaded the Pocket Mags app and now it downloads ok (albeit very slowly) and will let me read it. However, the text is fuzzy on my retina iPad in normal view and spindly and thin in zoomed view. You can't pop out of the app and then back in because the app closes the mag you are reading and goes back to the home view. There is potential here but an update better be coming soon or my subscription will be cancelled. I have used Zinio for years with no problems at all. Get with it guys!.Version: 1.2
✓ Bugs with bookmarks in landscape modeIf you bookmark with the app in landscape mode (2 pages onscreen), the bookmarks get set to some page number greater than the number in an issue. Needless to say the bookmark doesn't work. If you bookmark in portrait mode it works as expected. Believe this was introduced in a (semi)recent update. ✓ Very Slow Magazine DownloadThis app is nearly worthless, making a subscription to magazines through this company also worthless! Even using my 600 Mbs network connection, my subscribed magazine pages download so slowly that even overnight they have not downloaded and so are not accessible. ✓ Was great but no longerThis app was fantastic. I could read my magazine and also save to pdf to print out the patterns from my Parchment Craft magazine. Sadly I updated to iPad Pro 2020 using iOS14.3 and now when I try to save it only saves the covers of the magazine no matter which page I press. I also tried the Parchment Craft app and have the same problem. This renders my magazine useless as the whole point of it is to make the things in it using the patterns which need to be traced. I brought this to Pocketmags attention and they told me to use Chrome or Firefox on the website - which still did not work for me - and then to go on a PC or Mac. I have neither and they are still advertising both these apps on the website from the Apple App Store. Asked for my money back for the latest magazine (which I get monthly) but no response yet - still it is New Year I guess. Needs to be fixed and they have now lost my business..Version: 6.3.7

✓ Works, with problemsI seem to be able to read my magazine, so that is nice. I really think that I should also be able to print a page and cannot. If I had a paper magazine, I could make a photocopy. That would be fair use, and legal. Likewise, I should have the ability to copy text and cannot. Again that would not only be fair use and legal, but is expected behavior for all apps. Finally, some of the pages seem to be out of order. Oh, also, even after I have paid for a subscription, if I want to have the app notify me of new issues, the developer requires me to give them an email address. ✓ So-so appThis app needs some refinements in my opinion. I find it extremely irritating that the order I choose to show the monthly editions of my magazine in my library cannot be set as a default. I like to see them in order of publication but I have to reorder them every time I launch the app. It would also be good to be able to see a list of bookmarked items throughout the collection and not just within each edition separately. The username/password were saved on my phone and I’ve successfully purchased/subscribed to several magazines without an issue. Now, when I want to buy a magazine through their website vs. the app (because it’s cheaper), I’m told I don’t have an account with Pocketmags. I created an account through the website .. but now it doesn’t sync with my Pocketmags app. I’ve gone round and round via email trying to get this figured out and gotten no where. ✓ Still a mixed experienceI am getting used to reading mags digitally. There are downsides - the biggest is it’s not easy to share stuff with family and friends like you would a regular mag. But it is convenient and saves space. But the experience is still quite basic. For example I was reading a mag yesterday with lots of good articles so I bookmarked them. It has now taken me a day to find how to access these bookmarks, and I can only access the bookmarks within that mag and only on that device! Not useful at all - I need to remember where I saw everything (I have Pocketmags plus- lots of mags to read!) and then I can’t pick them up on my iPhone from the iPad. They should sync and there needs to be a bookmarks section in My Library, not per mag..Version: 6.4.5

When no issues were released I had to contact the publisher, who said it had ceased production and by then it was past the 90 day limit for refunds. Nobody at Pocketmags contacted the subscribers to inform them, three months later! After buying a digital back copy of a magazine I wanted I had mistakenly assumed I would be able to download & view the magazine however I wished. This is not the case. You either need to download the app & view the magazine that way or view it via the website. Not very user friendly. The app downloads quick enough however on trying to log in to view your purchases it freezes at the password stage. Had the same problem on all my devices (although everything works on my computer - shame thats not at all portable!). I reinstalled the app, and that seems to have made things worse. - the Plus page been stuck on a “loading” screen for hours. Plus, before I could at least access the magazine I was in the middle of reading. Now that’s gone as well. I emailed customer service but received what was clearly an old automatic reply saying replies were delayed by “the holiday period.” Labor Day was days ago… I wonder which one they mean? 72 hours seems to be the minimum wait for assistance - so that’s at least three days out of the latest month I paid for..Version: 6.4.21

No matter what issue I tap in my “My Latest Issues” it takes me a folder for the publication with the west on top instead of the actual magazine I tapped. Nearly every time I open a magazine the app crashes. There’s no way to download more than one issue at a time, the only way to trigger a download is to open a magazine and each time you return to the folder containing the magazines it takes you back to the top so you are constantly scrolling down to get older editions. A feature I do like is Article View which allows you to read the articles without any formatting. There’s also an option for the app to read the article aloud but it uses the most robotic voice imaginable. This app needs some professional help..Version: 6.5.7

Very high handed organisation... They auto renew without asking and then fail to provide any support - hopeless service providers. I think it's just a neglected cash cow for somebody. It is best if you just go to the magazine and get a physical subscription and then at least you will have a hard copy for easy reference and a reliable issue arrival.
