Following my sporadic use of the "translator" function while steering clear of the angry or hissing cat recordings, it gradually dawned on my cat that I was trying to talk to him rather than "at" him. The substance of our communication remains simple but much enhanced over the randomness of prior interactions. For example, he now comes when called, and has a specific, consistent meow for wanting the door to be opened.
