✓ Super easy to use & great support!I have tried about 7 different VPN services for Mac and iOS, some work great on Mac but not on iOS, and some the other way around. Now that there are so many varieties of Mac and iOS malware infections that do everything from wipe your device to take it over all together, it is essential to be protected on the road as well as at home. I like that you can simply trust or un-trust networks--any network--and cloak takes it from there without having remember to manually connect, this has become the best app on the market. Cloak warns you the moment you go to a fraudulent site or are on an untrusted network. Their “Over Cloak" adds yet another layer of security. It used to slow down my speeds a bit, but the new version has solved that problem. When I had an issue or simply did not understand something, their support was immediate and outstanding. I traveled to Europe and used Cloak, and felt really good to know I could still connect to my country of choice, or to the US if I wanted to watch HBO abroad. It worked behind the scenes, with a minimal amount of configuration. I highly recommend this application for all your devices, and cannot be happier with their support staff. I don't often use the rest so I don't know. I would like an notification if the vpn disconnects but I find that as long as I am using my device it does not disconnect often if at all, especially in the months recently. I have talked to the creators and find them trustworthy. You need to be able to trust your vpn provider. With all of them I generally had slow speeds at one time or another, there would be drop outs and disconnections or other issues. In the end, and after some research, I came across Cloak. Tried the free trial on my Mac, iPad and iPhone and was very impressed. The apps are very easy and simple to use, once setup you can more or less forget about them. Speed is fast and I've never had a problem with browsing the web or downloading large files, etc. Everything seems as fast as without the VPN. Liked Cloak so much during the free trial that I paid for a one year pass and I've been using it for around a month, no problems and works perfectly. ✓ Mainly good again, but flaky in placesOriginal review 2016 Cloak does an excellent job of reliably automating VPN on untrusted networks, removing the need to remember to turn it on. Speeds have always good at consistently around 10 percent or so less than the uncloaked connection. The only issue I've had (reduced in frequency over time) is Cloak occasionally cutting in on my home network, leading to a moments confusion when accessing my NAS or Mac. Bringing it to the foreground ends the problem quickly. Not a flaw, but it's also worth bearing in mind when setting up a new IoT device with wifi, which often requires connecting to the devices ad hoc wifi during configuration. Cloak tries to establish a VPN on this new network, shutting you out from accessing the device - I banged my head in frustration for an hour setting up a Dyson fan before noticing (finally!!!) the VPN symbol at top left. Overall well implemented and worth the price. Edit Mar 2018: Unfortunately this previously excellent app has gone badly downhill since the merger and rebrand and the introduction of v4. The previously excellent auto connect feature rarely works on 3rd party wifi, usually getting stuck on ‘connecting’, and trying to disconnect gets it stuck in a similar state (but with a ‘disconnect’ message) that persists even after the ios wifi is shut off entirely. Reinstalling will often fix the issue, although the fix wont last. IOS 11.1 seems to have improved auto connect a bit, but whether that will last is another matter. There seem to be a number of other reviews here with exactly the same issues. Edit June 2018: previous speed issues solved (my fault), but still somewhat flaky with connection issues on 3rd party networks as above (although it has improved), especially those where the bandwidth is low to start with..Version: 4.2.3
✓ Good VPN, but app feels abandonedWorks well enough but I haven’t seen a significant update in years. Needs some basic UX improvements like pinning favorite locales, showing average speeds, etc. It also doesn’t work for major streaming providers but that’s not their fault—would just be a huge plus if they did. ✓ It’s a great concept, but...I love the concept behind this app, but it’s too unstable. I get frequent hangs where my wi-fi just stops working. In the past I would simply open the app and toggle the VPN off and then on again. But lately even that doesn’t work. I had to delete the app to get reliable internet connections on 4 different iOS devices. Too bad. I can not recommend this app..Version: 4.1.0
