β The risk was well worth it.After hearing mixed reviews of this game I decided to just go for it because of its mere $0.99 price tag. I can say that I am very very pleased with my purchase. Graphics are very nice and can be adjusted to your liking. The controls handle well once switched to the "fixed sticks" setting (the floating sticks scheme is a mess). The gameplay is fun and frantic as arcade type shooters should be and the amount of stages you have available are only limited to how big your music library is. Now for how good this game is there are some flaws. 1) being how you select your music could be vastly improved by just using the standard music UI that is on your iOS device. 2) the Internet radio section should allow use of things like Pandora and other Internet radio providers and not just a bunch of crappy channels. Overall the 4 star rating is accurate in my opinion, but if these problems get fixed it would be a must own in my eyes..Version: 1.2

β Deserved of the term "eye-blistering"If you pick up this game be sure to equip your library with some music that really changes, something with a blistering solo or a long build up. I've found it completely satisfying playing this game to music that really challenges the visuals. At the same time, my eyes now have difficulties focussing after an assault from the wonderful visuals. So far the game is satisfying. I've played around with different tracks and difficulties and found it a fun challenge. It can get pretty difficult if you're willing to unlock the higher levels. The gameplay is rather simple but totally excellent. My only nag is the menu system and I find scrolling through my library to find a specific song not as efficacious as it could be. For a cheap app it's a great deal, one I recommend to any iPad owner who wants to have their retinas attacked in a haze of neon glory..Version: 1.4

β Absolute BrillianceJust like when I bought it for my PS3, Steam and when I had a 360, Beat Hazard is one of the most well-designed games, ever. Anything that allows me to experience MY music in unique and creative ways gets two thumbs up and a standing ovation from me. I wish I had an iPad to be able to enjoy the touch controls on a bigger screen (I've got meat slabs for fists and sausages for fingers that take up a lot of screen space). The twin stick mode works better for me than one stick, but I sincerely appreciate that feature. If you are looking for an incredibly addicting, challenging, and intensely fun game for your iPhone or other iOS device, this is THE game to get. I've been waiting on this since I first heard about it last year. I am as impressed as I am pleased. Awesome work, and you very well might have just spurred me toward buying an iPad!.Version: 1.2

Aim of the game is to stay alive throughout the duration of the song and rack up a huge score with the aid of power ups and bombs. The busier and more intense the song gets, the more enemies come at you and everything just gets brighter and more visually impressive. β WhoaGame is better than the pictures make it out to be. Many modes to play, any music on your ipod can be used, and radio can also be used to find other songs from within the game. There is a level up system and perks which you can get to make your life easier, and can be disabled for a challenge. You can only have so many perks at one time, however, and enabling and upgrading unlocked perks requires in game money, which you collect just buy playing. All levels are powered by your music, and a track will have the same boss fights and enemies when you play it again, allowing you to master any tracks. There are also leaderboards intergrated with gamecenter, so competing against anyone or friends is possible. All this neatly bundled in a single dollar package (or at least when I bought it) gives you so much value for this game that I will highly recommend it to anyone!!.Version: 1.4

It would be a perfect app if not for the issue I've had where the game has crashed as it loads my score at the end of a song. It is seriously annoying when you reach the end of a song on insane difficulty without dying only for the app to crash and take you back to your iPhone menu screen (WITHOUT saving your progress). β Beat hazardI want to stat by saying beat hazard is one of my favorite ps3 games if not the best ps3 game. It is perfect almost. On the iPad though no fault of the developer it's controls are not great. Why Apple won't put wifi controller support in the iPad or stereo speakers is a puzzle. And if this game were to support it, it would be perfect here too. iPad is a broken gaming platform and beat hazard does the best it can on it. Get it on ps3, 10/10 for ps3..Version: 1.5

β Close To Perfect, But Still 5 StarsSimply put, I love this game. It gives you an incredible new way to experience your music. I picked this game up on Steam about a year ago and I was pleasantly surprised to find it appear on the app store. My only gripes are that I'm having trouble moving my ship to the left sometimes because my left thumb slides off the screen. Perhaps you could add the option to increase the size of the joystick. Also sometimes I accidentally hit the power ups instead of the joystick. The ability to set up a playlist in survival would be great too. Besides that just make the menus easier to navigate and implement a folder system when viewing the music and it will be perfect. Example: whenever I choose artist or album, bring up the album or artist instead of clustering all of the songs together. Great job and keep up the good work!.Version: 1.2

β PerfectedThis app is beautiful! One stick is right for me. It's beautiful! The colors everywhere just flashing making it beautiful. β Almost as good as the PC/Mac versionBrilliant fun, plays almost exactly the same as the PC/Mac version, the twin stick controls are a hell of a lot nicer than I thought they would be and as such do not cause an unnecessary amount of extra difficulty. My only complaint is that bombs/shields/micro-missiles/ultra-beam power ups are incredibly fiddly and rarely seem to actually want to activate, making them nearly useless as you'll more often fly into enemies trying to activate them than you will save your life with them..Version: 1.8

Gameplay is essentially Asteroids to music (if you're not aware, you're floating around in space, you shoot things). If you liked the PC version, this purchase should be a nobrainer. ::Pros:: -It's a very fluid port of the PC version -Play your own music! -Pew pew pew! -Seizures! ::Cons:: -Joysticks on the iPad version are too small -Movement is a tad too sensitive -For those with large music libraries, song browser is horrendous -Seizures! -Music influences the game very little, only determines visualisations and your firepower ::Suggestions:: -Increase the size of joysticks on the iPad version -Get a better song browser, preferably with some kind of folder structure (like the PC!) ::Closing comments:: It's a great "play your own music" game, great way to kill some time. β Great Fun!I've had this game a week or so and played it loads, it really is great. It plays like the better ones in the genre on the iPhone, with about the right scale to work on the screen. The twin stick controls, when floating, often left me stuck and using my special weapons by mistake but in fixed position they work much better. It would be nice to be able to change the position they're fixed in. The music selection works by track name and you can only skip forward by first letter, meaning I was looking things up in iTunes and then having to do lots of scrolling, I hope this is improved in the future. But aside from that this game is just a hell of a lot of fun! The many upgrades and possible combinations are sure to keep a more serious gamer occupied for a while, but it's just as easy to pick up and play and enjoy right off the bat. It's as mesmerising as the iTunes visualised but much more engaging. β A True BeautyThis game. I've been waiting for it excitedly for a while now. The visualizer only helped build that anticipation. Now, it's here. And it's glorious. There's nary a frame rate glitch, even when the screen is filled with ships and bullets, and there's the always wonderful 200% visual intensity option as well. The controls are nice, though a little tricky to get used to at first. All in all, this game is well optimized for the iOS platform, and shows what one man can do with a little time and effort. The only problem I have with the floating controls is that I think you should be ale to move the 'bomb' option to where the pause button is. TOO many times I have clicked the bomb when all I was trying to do was shoot, and then when wanted to bomb, just moved the floating stick. I understand it should be tricky, but not like that haha. β By Jove, I think they've got it!I believe I noticed an early relative of this on iOS last year and seem to remember passing it up at the time as those in the know were unsure about the music algorithm performing at all well. Well, with this version all seems... well, well. My long app suffering GF and I demo'd the very different tracks we thought might push the game in interesting directions* using the differing control schemes and difficulties on offer. We had, as you would hope, very different shooting experiences and both noted that the other had made "little impressed faces" throughout. The wealth of perks, thoughtful options, and a well implemented Internet radio legitimises this as an alternate way to enjoy short blasts of music for me and I am happy to recommend it, for all that is worth. I am using an iTouch 4G, while my better half (typically) has a better device, a 4S, and we encountered no problems. We both paid 69p. * She used Black & White by Mr. Jackson while I opted for Hallo Spaceboy by Mr. Bowie - which I can confirm is one hell of a ride at later difficulties..Version: 1.2

It really does react differently to different Muzak ;) The graphics are mesmerizingly beautiful and the controls are spot on - especially if you are used to dual stick shooters . β Excellent PortI love Beat Hazard on PC, and just last night I wondered if there was a similar game for iOS that would allow me to play my own music. You can imagine my surprise when I saw the familiar Beat Hazard icon in the top of the Music category in the app store. Pretty much all of the functionality of the PC version is here, and it looks almost identical graphically. Now I can enjoy the same great gameplay on my phone. The only issue is the controls which understandably can't match the finesse of using an Xbox 360 controller plugged into my PC when playing the PC version. The same dual stick controls apply here except on the touch screen. The floating sticks could use some work as they can float too far and screw you mid-song. I'm finding the fixed sticks better, but somewhat too large, making quick and precise movements more difficult. In addition you're covering the bottom corners of the screen with your thumbs, obscuring sneaky ships and asteroids that may fly up from below, which can be an issue on the higher difficulties. Despite the controls, which could use a bit of tweaking, especially after playing the PC version, the same amazing Beat Hazard gameplay is all here. If you love music you will love this game..Version: 1.2

β Omg! Flawed but Great looking game!I found out in order to play you have to select the menu item by scrolling up or down then tap. Weird way of doing things, I can see why people are getting confused. Really great pricing for the IAPs 3 dollars to unlock all perks?! Big props to the developers for not being IAP miners. Now the flaws. First you can't select the music you want to play in that level. Definitely needs this option, this game could be soo much fun with it. Secondly when the tempo or volume gets high in the song the bloom effect though totally awesome really makes it hard to see what you're doing or shooting. But could be just me. In any case maybe tone down the effect a little or make the enemies pulse too so you can see them better. Thirdly the direction controls are a bit hard to master for me and those enemies with the tractor beams are super annoying. Here's a tip if you're having trouble seeing your ship consider buying the gold ship option. It has an effect that helps me see it better when things get hectic. Oh! β It's arrived!!!Been playing Beat Hazard since it was only an indie game on Xbox live and was instantly fascinated with it. I was extremely excited when Ultra was released on PC and I've been waiting for about 2 years to play it on my phone. Boy was it worth the wait! Incredibly smooth, great visuals (as always), awesome visualizer, works with all your music, lots of extras and to top it off, a great perk system that adds to the addictiveness. If you loved any of the previous versions, you'll feel right at home here. Also, this version probably has the best music browser of all of the other BH's. The only gripe I have with this is that when using twin stick mode your thumbs tend to cover the bottom corners of the screen meaning enemies can sometimes fly into you without seeing them. β Player since 2013Iβve been playing Beat Hazard Ultra on and off since it first came out and this game is one of my favorites here on the iPhone. I am normally a console (mobile or not) and PC player, but this is nice way to burn some time during lunch or whenever I had time to burn. Gameplay: This formula is tried and true for this genre and Beat does a good job with the classic top down view action. You have upgrades and items to use and each new song you play keeps you jamming while you play. The high score ranking and reward system is also a great way to compete against others and provides a goal to strive to and keep playing: Graphics/sound: Beat has great, rave inducing old school graphics that do a wonderful job keeping to the beat of the music and the special sound effects are well done One thing I do wish they would include, and I would gladly pay for, is a DLC option for a story of some kind that could explain why/who you fight and why we have to use our music to play. This would add another dimension to the game and would allow a new player to get used to the mechanics before they go and chase after the leaderboards..Version: 1.12

My only gripe is that you can't select an album or playlist from your iTunes library to just let run through while you're playing, especially on Survivor mode or Chill Out mode. β Seems legitFunctions almost exactly like the app's PC/Mac sized counterparts, with the added bonus of being pocket sized. Simple shoot-em up base, but offers a great deal of visual flare with plenty of challenge options. The game builds waves of enemies and bosses timed to the structure and nuances of your music (or Internet radio) enemies drop cash and power-ups. Use earned cash to unlock bonuses and multipliers! β OutstandingReally it's a wonder why this isn't #1 on top 25. The game is literally what it says, "made from YOUR MUSIC". Controls are a bit clunky but that may just be my sweaty hands =D. Visuals are stunning but may hurt your eyes with the flashes. Boss fights are a bit repetitive but still a challenge. Perks I personally found confusing and at times unbalanced and overpowerd. Their is an auto fire feature but it could do with improvement or you can go with dual sticks, up to you. But don't be mistaken this is a great iOS game and for all you auzy Good Game fans I'm giving it 9.5/10 rubber chickens xD. Is there any way you could just use the playlists, top 25, recently added etc? The current way to select songs just isn't as streamlined as the standard music / iPod interface on ios.Version: 1.2
