Prospect Magazine for Negative User Reviews

Terrible app for a great magazineI can never seem to use this without several logins on different sites (no idea why). I generally have to reset at last one of the passwords which takes quite some time. Inside the app, the difference between posts and magazine content is not at all clear. Navigation is a muddle. Such a good magazine deserves a better app.Version: 4.9.89

InfuriatingI love the magazine and have been subscribing for years but the app is just awful. very annoying. I seem to have to keep downloading the same issue and sometimes you lose it when you go offline. I simply can't understand why they cant just copy magazine apps that work, like The Week, etc.Version: 4.9.89

Amazing mag terrible appSubscription service is always failing, app is slow and clunky. Have to constantly contact customer support.Version: 4.9.102

Very poor appThe app is so basic that you can't even zoom in!Note to the developers-please have a look at other magazine apps like Newsweek or Bloomberg business week magazine to get an idea as to how to build features for the iPad...waste of time and money to buy the magazine on the iPad..Version: 4.1.8

Useless appI’ve tried to log-in for the past two days. I’ve got another two editions to receive on the special offer I took up. At this rate I won’t be bothering to extend my membership once they run out..Version: 8.0.0

The app is terribleProspect is a great, high quality magazine - they should be embarrassed about this app, it is awful. I have a subscription but cannot log in - I’ve tried everything. On the one time I logged in it was pretty rubbish anyway - clunky, difficult to navigate and just essentially full page prints of the magazine, not optimised for a device in any way. Deleted..Version: 6.0.0

Login fail repeatedlyI have a subscription, it lets me login ,but still wants payment. Customer Service is no help..Version: 6.0.0

Awful appProspect is a decent magazine. However, it is really let down by this app which is what this review is for. The app should not try to replicate the hard copy. It does not need to. It makes it more difficult to navigate. Take a leaf out of The Economist’s book. They’ve shown how it should be done..Version: 6.5.2

No good on iPhoneIt's a great magazine but hopeless on iPhone app as it is too difficult to read. The interface needs to be improved in line with other magazines that have made the effort to make an easy to use and read app version..Version: 4.9.26

This app makes it annoying to read Prospect. This app is an absolute clunker on the iPad, and it has my subscription living on borrowed time. First: it doesn't support native resolution for anything larger than the iPhone. The writing just isn't sharp and this is unforgivable on these devices in 2017. Second: the layout is appalling. The text is confined to a scrolling box in a section of the page, so that a navigation bar can occupy a huge left column. All space should be given to the article. The iPhone app is very nicely optimised, including a text-only reading view which is useful for the limited screen real estate on small screens. I dearly wish the same attention was applied to the iPad, a screen that should be the natural home for a magazine. I purchase Prospect to read the articles, and this app makes it annoying to do so..Version: 4.9.102

Get it together Prospect! This app is such a disappointment. As a long term subscriber to the print and online editions I was hoping the convenience of the app would be a handy extension of the subscription - not so as far as I can see. The whole setup process is convoluted and at times counterintuitive and could (should) be much simpler. I had expected this to be much more than just reading the print edition on a screen, and would be optimised for a phone like the better newspaper and magazine apps. I had at least hoped for some media content (maybe to come?) Overall not worth the money - go to a real newsstand and pickup the paper edition, this really doesn't do the material or the 'brand' justice..Version: 4.1.8

No ProspectJust downloaded this app. As a subscriber to the magazine I was keen. Unfortunately on launch it just goes to a white screen. Nothing. As the last update was a year ago, has this been abandoned by the developer?.Version: 6.0.0

MrUseless app - I have paid a year's subscription and like earlier reviewers have been locked in an endless run around between the magazine and pocketmags - all I want to do is read the magazine. The worst access I have ever experienced..Version: 6.0.0

Good content, bad layoutI love this magazine. I used to be a subscriber, reader, and reviewer all the way from Iran, wherein getting the magazine was not as easy as other places. I still love the content and the insight. It is, therefore, a shame in my opinion that this content is present the way it is on my iPhone. I have an iPhone 6, which by all accounts is quite large. Despite that, I can tell you that the content is not easy to read, particularly on pages with a single column layout. It is as though you are being presented with a scanned version of the print edition, which is most likely the case. I would have liked to see something more device-specific from the intelligent and bright illustrators and designers of this fabulous magazine. It is very hard for me to keep on reading content. I involuntarily get my nose into the phone, which other than making me look silly, is quite harmful to the back and the neck. Anyway, I hope the editors will see this and do something about it. I am glad that I used the trial period. I most likely will stick to subscribing to the print version, which gives me access to the PDF version of the editions, which basically offers the same amount of content layout as the current application, with the benefit of being able to search the content, copy interesting tidbits for clipping, as well as presenting me with a nice, linked table of contents..Version: 4.9.71

John DavisWhy is it that I cannot access Prospect when my subscription is up to date? What am I paying my money for?.Version: 8.0.0

UselessThis is a totally useless app for an excellent magazine. As a subscriber I seem to be in an endless loop between this app and Pocketmags and I’m unable to access my magazine issues from either app. Why is it that some apps such as the Economist are so user-friendly when others like this sap one’s will to live?.Version: 6.0.0

Not convincedIf this is the App prospect has been advertising in their last few editions then its a bit of a let down. It appears a duplicate digital subscription (for the cost as my print one) needs to be purchased to use this. The pages, at least on the preview edition, are slightly fuzzy and not hi-res, with no functionality (no zoom, highlight, copy, and so forth) other than a simple page view. The app seems to do little more than present a PDF copy of each page and back issue. It does the job, but is very basic..Version: 4.1.5

App needs workProspect is a great magazine, but the app needs work. When open on the iPad2, it is impossible to enlarge the font size. The text is so small as to be uncomfortable to read..Version: 4.1.8

Waste of timeI am a longstanding Prospect subscriber, so when I saw the new iPad app advertised I thought it would enable me to read the magazines I've already paid for on my iPad. No, it appears you have to pay again for the privilege of reading the same articles - what a waste of time downloading an app that doesn't let me do what I can do for free if I download the PDF and copy it to my iPad. Come on Prospect, it's not reasonable expect existing subscribers to pay again and you have to make a good quality reading experience. I'm basing this comment on other reviews as I couldn't figure out how to get the one free edition downloaded..Version: 4.1.8

Not greatThis is a fairly poorly designed app all round. tests essentially a glorified PDF reader. Unlike the New Yorker, the Economist or Businessweek it is up to the reader to fit the screen to the text rather than the text automatically fitting the screen (think the difference between viewing a website with lots of horizontal scrolling through a standard browser versus safari 'reader' mode). The end result is your stuck with text that is overly small or you have to zoom and maneuver between columns, which is a pain. The download speed is also poor. The magazine is still readable, but it's a bit of chore. This is all a shame because it detracts from the editorial content of the magazine which ranges from excellent to not quite so excellent..Version: 4.1.5

App crashes on launch on iOS9Please fix the crash bug on iOS9..Version: 4.9.86

This app is rubbishIf I could give it 0 I would. Every time I open it it wants me to login but it doesn’t remember the status. As I have a print subscription I expect to have access to a digital version of of each copy. However that isn’t the case. I have other subscriptions-Economist, LRB that work fine. I have removed this as it is FRUSTRATINGLY BAD..Version: 6.0.0

When it works, greatIt’s glitchy, that’s my only issue with it. Sometimes it just won’t open, pops up for a half second and then closes itself. Other times it downloads the article just fine and is really easy to read on. If it could be a little more reliable it would be top marks..Version: 7.1.15

The magazine is good, but ...The app is a catastrophe. That is all. Before 8.0 it had a view ofthe magazine issues which was perfectly usable. Now it doesn't: it has a PDF copy ofthe magazine with a terrible viewer, or a different view of articles ... which splices ads into them. This is just rubbish. It's very sad..Version: 8.0.0

Would like to read the mag, app is uselessAnnoying, I ignored. Surely, 5 years into the existence of the iPad, a magazine app couldn't go wrong these days? Wrong: the app is too slow, taking 10s of minutes to get halfway through a download (tried on multiple w-fi & 4G pathways, each of which downloads everything else swiftly. Once I've got to the app, it is unintuitive and unhelpful: it appears to default to barely half iPad Air's screen with parts of pages missing. In summary on the app: avoid..Version: 4.9.89

Nice mag, shame about appThe content of the magazine is fine ( for me it's dropped a bit in quality & relevance under the new editor, but it's still a great magazine). This one-star review is for the appalling app that you have to use to read the magazine. It's incredibly slow to download issues - 10's of minutes - and falls over often, requiring you to start again. It's a very basic experience, no different really from reading a PDF file. If you resize text you end up with the page bigger than the screen so you have to keep pulling back & forth to read the page. Then when you move onto the next page it goes back to default size! I don't know whether the app is developed by Prospect directly or by Pocket Mag (there are other magazines available on the same app but i don't subscribe to them so can't compare). Whoever it is they should take a look at The Economist - by far the best magazine app I use - for some inspiration. Or the TImes Higher Ed. Or even a standalone app as with The Atlantic - all of these are head & shoulders above this one..Version: 4.9.10

Generally good, one caveatThe content of the magazine is top quality and good value. I’d like however to have access to separate articles on the app as per the website..Version: 6.2.1

Unusable on iPadGreat magazine: useless App; unhelpful support helpline. Took out an annual digital subscription. iPhone was fine but naturally wanted to read it on iPad. Informed had to use third party App Pocketmags for iPad access. Anyway it just wouldn't work. Several calls to helpline and when eventually get through they just read through the mantra of instructions rather than help. Cancelled subscription and gone with Spectator. Much better..Version: 4.9.102
