✓ Excellent NEO GEO shoot-em-upI was really looking forward to playing this. I used to own the NEO GEO console and this game amongst many others. I originally paid £90 for the cartridge in the 1990's and this version now only costs £1.99 Perfect Port? Yes! Smooth Controls? Getting there! The latest update has added a new control option which is a big improvement to the previous release. But it's still not quite right. The ship still doesn't always go to where your finger is. There was no need to increase the speed of the ship from the original game. Just make the ship start moving to your last or current finger position. If you move your finger the new position is read and the ship starts to move towards that. And that's it. Responsive and accurate. The next priority is to optimise the frame-rate. Most NG games ran at 30fps (some at 60) but this game on my iPad 2 fluctuates and dips sometimes, making the scroll jerk and controls feel less responsive. If it can be optimised to stay at a constant 30 fps that would be great. I understand this wouldnt be possible on less capable devices such as iPad 1 and iPhone 3GS, but for iPad 2 and iPhone 4 it should be possible to achieve a smooth and constant framerate. I would like to buy any future games in the NEO Geo SNK range as I really liked the originals. But I think the only ideal solution to the control dilemma is iCade. Magician Lord and Top Hunter platformers would be great future releases BTW..Version: 1.1 Ver.
✓ Beautiful graphics, retro sounds, but...... but nothing!! Finally, the devs have listened and implemented some decent controls in v1.1 and now it's possible to play the game at last (although its darn hard!). -------------------- ... shi-ite controls!! ✓ Blazing star1st of all, it's a pleasure to be playing Blazing star on my iPad! An absolute classic of the genre, and an extremely expensive game on Neo geo. I'm loving this port, but as a previous reviewer stated, it would be nice to have an auto fire option present in the game, like Darius. Also there doesn't seem to be a save option for your settings, because I personally prefer playing with the graphic filter off (gotta love those crisp pixels!) Aside from those incredibly minor hiccups, this is truly shmup heaven, and an absolute steal at £1.99 for a universal app ( heres looking at you Raystorm/Rayforce, the most recent that I never bothered purchasing because it wasn't universal..).Version: Ver.1.00

✓ So much funIn the 90’s I dreamed of one day having a neo geo system to play these arcade games at home, and now we can do it anywhere. This game is fantastic, a brilliant side-scrolling shooter with guts and charm. Some reviews say it’s not perfect and maybe those folk had the OG system or played it endlessly at the arcade but none of that matters if you’re just looking for a great arcade shooter for iOS. ✓ Really great!Aside from a few CAVE titles, this is my favorite iOS shmup. Its just all around wonderful. Lots of different ships with different weapons. Crazy scoring multipliers and bonuses. The port is really well done with good graphics options (SCANLINES!). Also, some reviews complain about controls; the relative touch is not 1:1 because the various ships have different speeds. The developer had agreed to implement 1:1 relative touch for the whiners but they will have their own separate GC leaderboard for cheating..Version: Ver.1.00

✓ Spot on conversionI love Neo Geo, I love shmup's and have plenty on ipad. Vertical scrolling ones work much better than horizontal ones hence why I got i-cade. ✓ Fantastic port, needs a tiny bit of polishing.This port of Blazing Star looks and plays quite well. The touch controls take some getting used but with added the iCade support I think that the devs have provided the best control solutions. Fingers obscure the view on touchscreen, and tapping the fire button is impossible with the off-hand, meaning that the off-hand must be used for ship control.
