✓ Readability of new [May 2018 Version 7.0.1]I’ve become ever more frustrated in trying to read the EVENING STANDARD on line over the last couple of days via the new IOS App since its functionality was changed wrt the lack of the double-tap function which allowed the text to be instantly magnified (& returned to normal on the next double-tap). As it is now: I have to use the more fiddly two-fingered approach to increase the size of the text. I have near perfect vision, and in settings with the font set to maximum, it is still quite difficult trying to read the body of the text without some form of magnification. Please return this double-tap feature back to the way it was Thank you.Version: 7.0.1
✓ Frustratingly unreliableI’ve lost count how many times I’ve emailed ES about the app’s poor reliability downloading the day’s paper and games. Their standard response is ‘is your phone up to date’, ‘have you got latest version of app’, ‘try deleting and reloading’. So deleting and reloading usually works but not a sustainable way to go on. And downloading the day’s editions over Wi-Fi on the Underground just never works. Come on ES, get it working for everyone, all the time..Version: 9.3.7

✓ Evening standard worse since changesOnce upon a time, the Evening Standard came to my email.I could open it and read it like reading a paper - it was simple. But now I have to have a profile, I have to login daily just look at the paper each day - and I can't find archives any more. it's so much more difficult to navigate.Just fail to understand why these changes were necessary and expression "less is more" was never more apt..Version: 7.3.0
✓ New App Massive Step BackwardsReally small text on main news page. Struggles to update and doesn’t readily default to last news downloaded. Feedback and Settings in App hidden in newspaper download pages. If you open first item in any line eg Staying In and the news is also in News when you swipe right you get next News item not next Staying In item. Really bad App do not bother with it Did send direct feedback from App but it has been ignored!.Version: 7.0.1
✓ No Zero star option available!App is useless and has been for 2 years now! Rarely does it reload with new stories! Only gives you one. Really not sure why I’m reporting this as they never take any notice of the feedback and when I contacted them directly they just said nothing apart from try and refresh! Tried that so many tones have no fingers left!! Sort it out for gods sake as all other newspaper apps work great apart from this one!!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬.Version: 7.3.0
✓ Unusably buggyI love what they are trying to do with the App and try to use it every day on the commute home (rather than get ink on my fingers), but it crashes pretty much every time. Not just a crash out of the app, but my whole phone freezes for 20-30 seconds. It's infuriating. The Evening Standard is on the pulse of London, a city full of talented software engineers. Please hire some of them!.Version: 7.0.1

✓ Failed updateI used to happily use this app on a regular basis. Then it broke when ios17 came out which I accept can happen but it took a while to fix. Now it opens but insists on registering without any explanation as to why they now want your email address where they didn’t need it before. This is a big fail in the user experience for me and I’m not going to provide my email without them at least explaining why they now NEED this. I’ll check back in a week or so to see if they’ve dropped this requirement (from which we could infer all sorts of sneaky intent), and if not the app will be deleted..Version: 9.7

✓ UnreadableThis app is almost useless because you can’t change the minuscule font size of the articles in the daily paper. You also can’t change from portrait to landscape which makes most newspaper apps more readable. It’s as if they’ve taken photographs of the pages of the paper and uploaded them. In addition, the editions are *only* indexed by page number, not by sections such as Business, News, Tech etc. Not worth the price (yes, I know it’s free)..Version: 7.2.0

✓ GlitchesI'm a big fan of the Evening Standard but trying to download it is very sporadic, not allowing me daily access, which is very frustrating. I preferred the previous format for the highlights. It would have been great to have been told beforehand of the changes you were making. It takes time to download this too.Version: 7.0.1
✓ Constantly crashes and freezes on iphone8 / IOS 11This should not be allowed in the app store. it keeps crashing iphone8 and likely any phone running IOS 11. Starts, you can read one or more articles before it freezes and IOS freezes too. Try to kill the app with a swipe up and it freezes. Needs to be removed and seriously debugged. I would say it was never tested on IOS11. Performing some illegal system called that was deprecated. Poor show. Especially from major newspaper. No update for over a year. Time to go..Version: 6.0.3
✓ CrosswordsI confess I only really read the ES for the crossword, but am consistently let down by the app. Typing clues in leads to a zoomed in screen because it registers as a double tap, or the crossword itself isn’t scaled to the screen properly. I know it’s free as is the paper, but if these small issues are fixed it would improve my overall experience.Version: 7.2.0
✓ AbysmalThis app is awful. You have to zoom in on the articles and they are too blurry to read. What a waste of time. And to think they were actually charging for this until recently! 0 stars..Version: 4.9.4
✓ Weak excuse to display ad bannerNearly indistinguishable from the web site ie no app-specific features. The only unwelcome addition is a too-large navigation banner at top of screen and, inevitably, an ad banner at bottom. If you're like the other 90% of the world using a browser ad blocker then installing yet another app for a single web site is nonsensical..Version: 6.0.3
✓ Slow and problematicSomehow manages to freeze my new iPhone SE and make it totally unresponsive for 30+ seconds. Volume, home, lock buttons all non-responsive. Had similar issues on a 5S but seems it’s not a fault of an older phone..Version: 6.0.3
✓ Error in dataFor a few weeks now I cannot use the app on iPhone 6. When loading it gives "Error in data" message and does not load content. Deleted, reinstalled, subscribed again. Same error. Hope it gets fixed..Version: 5.8.1
✓ Latest IOS update is very poorThe app has just updated on my iPad and it’s really poor by comparison to the last version. It does seem to be able to devised if you get a pure text version or a newspaper image. So you get a mix! And today the puzzle supplement has no content ~ just a front page. Where is theEditor? ✓ PuzzlesHate the way puzzles are not able to be downloaded anymore. Only 1 week’s editions available. Previous app allowed months of editions to be accessed. No longer the case. On positive side, news is easier to read in this format..Version: 9.3.7
✓ Update awfulRecent update very annoying. Keep getting split screens, and where are the puzzles? Only the puzzle page from the paper and that is non functional on iPad anyway Am going to delete app and will watch to see if another update arrives which reverses to previous Standard. ✓ Crashes all the timeThis app freezes the iPhone 8 and crashes all the time. It hasn’t been updated for a long time. Avoid.Version: 6.0.3
✓ Appalling memory hog; ignores "don't auto download" & "clear data" settingsThis app has a huge memory management bug on my iPad 4! Downloading news uses a lot of data & storage space – I understand this and that this is necessary for it to work underground. But I'm not underground: when I switch off automatic downloads and press the "clear all data" button it jumps back to the home page and says "checking new content" and then "downloading latest content" again - and immediately downloads another ~140mb! This cycle repeats every time I try to delete. The only way to stop this is to force close the app as soon as I press "clear data"! The contrast with the Metro app is stark: the Metro just works; it only downloads when I tell it to and it uses memory efficiently. This needs an urgent fix please!.Version: 7.2.0

✓ Love the ES........BUT!The ES is a great newspaper which I endeavour to read every day, The trouble is that I have eyesight issues and need to be able to increase the text size to suit my vision - guess what - you can’t, you can increase it but only a little. I reported this to ES and they came back and said that they were aware of the problem as they had received other complaints but nothing could be done due to the limitations of the app - here we are fast approaching 2020 and they say that there is nothing that they can do, how bad is that. In the meantime I and thousands of others are to be deprived of our favourite newspaper through no fault of our own other than we have vision issues, funny thing is that I thought hatband were supposed to live in a country where all people are supposed to be equal, clearly this is not the case as people with eyesight problems are simply forgotten about. To say that I am really disappointed is a major understatement - I simply don’t believe and can’t accept that nothing can be done. The ES is a really great paper and is being seriously let down by this inferior App..Version: 7.3.0
✓ Disastrous app updateToday’s app update is dreadful. White on black with no obvious way to change it, only a drop down menu for the different sections, too many old articles in each section, puzzles not available. Worst of all the feedback option rejected my attempts to make these comments. Can’t tell whether the app is as memory hungry as previously, but it certainly is not an improvement so far.Version: 8.3.7
✓ Finally - a great appHooray! With the new v7 app, the Standard has something to deliver it’s content and advertising that lives in the 21st century. The relationship between the online and ‘paper’ version (digital replica of the printed edition) isn’t 100% intuitive, but this app seems stable, looks ok and ... wait for it ... actually works. Even the puzzles load the correct puzzle - who knew that was possible? A huge step in the right direction..Version: 7.0.1
