Cardiio: Heart Rate Monitor for Negative User Reviews

Don’t buy for 11 Pro - won’t workHad for years, and Used to be excellent, but no longer works with the 11 Pro. The issue is that the illumination from the flash is used by the camera to see ‘into’ your finger, but the camera of the three that seems to be used by the app is too distant so it simply fails to work 9 out of 10 times. Shame..Version: 4.0.6

Inaccurate measureI took my heart rate and was VERY surprised to see that it said my heart rate was 100bpm. I am bradycardic (have a heart rate below 60bpm) so was surprised to see this reading. I did my heart rate on Heart Care straight after and got a much better reading (55bpm which is more my average heart rate) I would recommend they calibrate their app.Version: 4.0.6

Doesn’t work with iPhone 11 Pro MaxBeware - this app simply doesn’t work with the flagship Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max. The problem seems to be the three cameras built into the iPhone 11 Pro Max. I contacted the help desk who in turn simply replied that I should read the directions. Either the help desk people don’t realize their own app directions are no longer up to date for current versions of iPhone, or I hope I’m wrong but perhaps they simply don’t care about customers of this app any longer. The app directions only refer to iPhones with a single camera. If it was just experimenting with placing my finger over one of the three cameras of the iPhone 11 Pro Max, or some combination of cameras, I wouldn’t have had to see if the help desk could actually “help” a customer. If you’re using most any version of iPhone less than the iPhone 11 Pro Max, this app is fantastic and works well. I hope the developer decides to update this app for Apple’s flagship iPhone. I also hope the help desk procedures get updated to provide actual help to customers..Version: 4.0.6

Used to be better. Now they just want £$€¥New version conceals your heart waveform after you’ve viewed it just the once. Then they want money to unlock it. Also the early versions of the app used to give “life expectancy” (which is a bit of a novelty for amusement only but still an incentive to exercise) for free but not any longer. Another app that’s slid from the “really useful” into the “cash cow” category..Version: 4.0.3

Misleading privacy policy! Collects a LOT of data! This app says on the App Store that it doesn’t collect any data. However, when one opens up the app for the first time and examines its privacy policies, it’s clear that they collect a whole bunch of data for advertising and marketing purposes. I hope Apple will crack down on this..Version: 4.0.10

Didn’t work for iPhone 11 ProSaid there was a face reading but couldn’t find that option Tried the fingers but kept failing Also worried about leaving marks on my camera lens with pressing my finger tip against the lens.Version: 4.0.6

Not FreeThis is not a free app..Version: 4.0.6

Doesn’t do what it says half the timeIf you want to measure your resting heart rate, this is a decent option, I found it works most of the time. However, it is totally unreliable in measuring heart rate after activity. I tried over 20 times to measure my heart rate after a run, and i was standing so still that my heart rate was shaking my body. The app starts to measure it and creates the beginning of a waveform but before a number is displayed it quits the process and you have to start over. My heart rate was 192 by the time the app actually measured it because I had to sprint for so long until I could get a reading. So just get a heart rate moniter from target or something if you want to get readings while exercising or after exercising..Version: 4.0.6

VirusNo bad starts installing games.Version: 4.0.6

Not for IPhone pro maxThis app isn’t for iPhone pro max. The camera it picks to measure is the bottom one which is the farthest from the flash. Comparing it with an actual physical blood pressure machine, it’s off by 5-20 bond per minute.Version: 4.0.6

Used to be great...needs to be updatedUsed to be a 5-star app, and it would still be if the developer would update it to work with the triple-lens phones. The lens that the app uses needs to be adjacent to the light, otherwise there isn’t enough light transmission to get a reading. On the triple-lens phones, the app tries to use the lens that is diagonally across from the light. There simply isn’t enough light transmission across that long of a distance to the app to be able to give a reliable reading..Version: 4.0.6

IPhone 11 ProUsed to use this and it worked well with my iPhone 6s now I have an 11 pro and the facial feature is gone for some reason so not really useable anymore....Version: 4.0.6

Annoying but usefulI have to use this app for my online PE class, and it can be really annoying. My apartment has extremely good signal, but for some reason this app keeps loading my heart rate only to tell me there’s low signal. I don’t have this problem with any other device or app. By the time it actually takes it, if it does, my heart rate goes way down and it’s not qualified as part of the target heart rate zone I’m aiming for based on the requirements of my homework..Version: 4.0.6

Must haveReally handy, good for encouraging you to exercise. Should really let you customize the 7 minute workout though. Also too many of the features that seem most helpful are pro-only..Version: 3.2.1

Covering camera and flash 12 proA bit awkward to use with iPhone 12 pro - to cover the camera and flash. Otherwise it’s good..Version: 4.0.6

East of timeBad junk not good stuff.Version: 4.0.13

Can’t use this app anymore. Don’t pay $10.I initially loved this app, but a few versions ago I’ve come to hate it. I’m using on an iPhone 8 with latest IOS. Also was used in my 6. The app doesn’t work right when there’s even the slightest bit of movement— like right after you finish a hard run. That’s when you want to capture your max heart rate. App keeps saying “poor signal quality”. I’ve tried pressing both hard and soft on the camera. By time the app can record my rate, it’s way down from my max. The app also doesn’t work in the cold. So winter exercise is out. I would never pay $10 for an app that doesn’t work..Version: 4.0.1

BuggyIt keeps telling me to keep still even though I am staying very still. I've had this app for ages but it's only just started doing this. I'm using iPhone 6s running iOS 9.0.2.Version: 3.3.1

GreatGreat app does what it says , but I would have given 5 stars if priced right, Instant heart monitor 1/5 the price and as accurate.Version: 1.0

Not so great with a new iPhoneI have been using this for years, but it is now very tricky to get a reading, as the led/flash and the camera the app uses are far apart on my new iPhone 12. I’m surprised they haven’t done anything about this yet, as the iPhone 11 also had this arrangement of lenses. It’s just a faff now and the quality of the measurement is poorer..Version: 4.0.6

Gets heart rate but doesn’t let me add it!So after using this app for a few weeks I’ve found almost every time I use it that it will get my heart rate fine but then tell me that it couldn’t get an accurate enough reading - despite seeing a steady beat and a number that was correct. I had to read my heart rate 4 times today before it eventually got it, by which point it had decreased from 120 BPM to 85 BPM after a 10 minutes run, giving me data that isn’t as good for what I wanted. Please add a feature that lets me add my pulse even if the app doesn’t think it was good enough - I want to track it over time and having it look falsely low isn’t helping..Version: 4.0.1

Does not work with multi-lens iPhones. It is very disappointing that you did not update the software to use the lens closest to the flashlight for multi-lens iPhones. It used to work great with my single-lens iPhone (we even purchased the in-app upgrade), but now, with my multi-lens iPhone 11 Pro, the app is useless crap! The light and the lens are too far away from each other to get an accurate measurement! The iPhone 11 Pro was released 1.5 years ago (that's when I bought it)! How much more time do you need to fix the problem 🙄🙄🙄???).Version: 4.0.6

Nice app, but not super accurate!I like this app quite a lot more than other heart rate apps out there. It allows you to take as many measurements as you wish, and the premium bonus content isn’t pressured on you (and actually looks appealing!) However, it only gives a rough estimate of heart rate in my experience. I immediately took measurements promptly after having my rate taken by a doctor twice, and it was about 20 beats lower than the actual rate each time..Version: 4.0.3

No gender neutral optionsHave to choose a gender with no gender neutral option. Couldn't even set up the app so its deleted. Theres more then two genders..Version: 4.0.6

HEY! HALO!DONT BE GREEDY PLS! CLULD U JUST DO A 1 TIME REASONABLE PAYMENT? THIS IS GREAT APP …BUT I AINT GONNA PAY MONTHLY FOR THAT! 2YEARS SUB = A RELIABLE HR MONITOR BOUGHT IN THE STORE… DONT BE GREEDY PLS!.Version: 4.0.14

Claims it’s an oximeterI dislike click bait claims. Claims to be an oximeter in the description however it’s a pulse reader. I can take my own pulse thank you..Version: 4.0.6

Heart rate funnyEverything else on the app is pretty good but just except the heart rate every time I find a heart rate app it’s always just terrible i used a pillow to see if it would work with my own eyes I seen a heart rate of 170 seems about right on a pillow lifeless The workout is pretty good The entire app is locked with pay walls I kind of find the always funny 13:99.Version: 4.0.6

ExpenseLove the App used it daily after recovering from an AF Ablation Op. Then, surprised to discover that was originally part of the App now needed to be bought as an extra. Disappointed. Still Disappointed..Version: 4.0.4

Not reliableApp worked great initially then started showing poor signal quality when I would attempt to measure my rate. Reached out several times for a solution to app support and never received a response despite paying 13.99 for app. Downloaded a competing app and it works great. If you do download stick to the free version as you don’t get much for purchasing. Disappointed.Version: 4.0.3

Paid 7.99 for the waveform measurementI paid for the waveform measurement thinking it would give a little more detail about what is seen in the heart rate, like maybe a missing p wave, or too long a length between certain parts of the waveform...you know, length of time to the T wave or whatever. I didn’t expect the only information shown after 7.99 (a lot by app standards) to only say: -.2 sec. <—-that’s it. That’s what you get for 7.99. Okay? How is that even remotely worth any money at all and how does that help me? I downloaded the app and would pay 50 bucks if it helped me figure out why I get breathless for no reason after never smoking and while just sitting. People downloading heart rate apps have heart rate questions. I don’t expect it to be a doctor in an app. But I do expect 7.99 to measure something resembling anything. I feel betrayed. I feel stupid for parting with that much money. I made an assumption that 7.99 meant the waveform was analyzed. It’s not..Version: 4.0.6

Erroneous nameWorks fine as a heart rate monitor. Easy. However description of ‘pulse oximeter’ is incorrect and miss leading as it does not actually provide an oximetey reading....which is why I downloaded it. I can check my pulse myself, I can’t manually take a peripheral oximetry readings. Disappointed..Version: 4.0.6

Go eff yourselfThis app is absolute trash and I hope no one ever waste time downloading it. TRASH! TRASH! GARBAGE! Which says a lot coming from someone who has never left a review but took the time out of my day to tell you how much dumpster fire your app is.Version: 4.0.6

RUBISHHHHHHHHHHPoor signal quality! Poor signal quality!! If you are serious about exercise, heart rate and calorie counting I’d think twice about this app. It’s set out nicely and works every time when at rest but when I try to use after intense workout it only reads my pulse once out of 5 times!! Very annoying when trying to track estimated calorie burn. Plus sort out.Version: 4.0.6

Accurate? All too frequently has problems taking readings, but for a free app that doesn't bug me with ads it's worth three stars. Just hope it doesn't keep hassling me to leave a review like it used to do. App has become very temperamental when taking readings, of the opinion now that it's just not worth the hassle. There are better apps to use up space on my phone with Reinstalled several years after removing and it’s still as temperamental and annoying as it ever was, guaranteed to raise my blood pressure before it successfully takes a reading. Bye bye forever this time.Version: 4.0.4

FinickyThis app seems fairly accurate at rest but fails to get a reading more often than not after exercising..Version: 4.0.5

Beware the paid upgrade.I hoped that paying for the full upgrade would allow me to store traces. It doesn’t. The maximum you can save is 17 seconds of trace, and it’s only temporary. They get deleted automatically after 30 days. The answer from the substandard tech support (finally, after multiple requests) is to take a screenshot. That’s useless because you can only get a few seconds to show on the screen at once. I feel ripped off..Version: 4.0.3

Not accurate as beforeInaccurate lately. Highs and lows showed and now they don’t. I reported the issue months ago and have screenshots to prove it. I haven’t used in since until today. Only 1 of the 6 tests (I took face and finger) accurately showed actual real high and real low I saw on the screen. And recorded it. I add notes to the real high and low in the notes section and told them about it months ago. They haven’t fixed it. It worked great before that. Fix it and make it work properly again and the rating will increase. For now it hasn’t and I’ve reported this issue before..Version: 4.0.3

Needs All Rights to User Info for 3rd Party Advertising purposes. The AppStore Privacy disclaimer for this App is opposite to the Privacy consent required upon install. Also ‘Ask App Not To Track’ is also *Not* honoured by this Developer/App.Version: 4.0.7

Eh...I’ve been using the free version of this app for a few months now. Some days it just doesn’t work. Post workout measurements require multiple attempts but by then my heart rate reduced so much it is not a meaningful measurement. I like it when it works. I decided to reread the reviews. I noticed the developer responded to zero of the reviews that contained any negative feedback nor responded to any that I looked at period. My conclusion is the developer put it together and is willing to take whatever money comes in with no additional effort on his or her part to improve user satisfaction. I’ll keep my money..Version: 4.0.3

Do not upgradeThe free version of this app works well for me. The upgrade is not worth anything imho. It promised access to waveforms but delivered nothing. A total waste of money..Version: 4.0.8

BPMI feel calmer as my wife, although she suffered a lot of pain today as well as severe blurred vision, was less distraught than usual..Version: 4.0.6

CardiioCardiio is a great app but when it asked me for a review and I clicked 5 starts with I think basically just the text “Cardiio is great” it said “Submitted Review”. I thought I was in the App Store but seems like I was inside of cardio the entire time, the popup modal for submitting the review seemed super official and just like system modals that pop up throughout iOS, but when I swiped up to the multitasking view, the popup modal was actually a view inside of the Cardiio app. As an Apple developer myself, I’m pretty sure this goes against Apple’s human interface guidelines, but the app does take raw waveform measurements, so I guess I have to deal with it until the app is fixed..Version: 4.0.9

Heartbeat History not being recordedI put my finger over the camera light on my iPhone and I can see a heartbeat reading. I take my finger off and that reading is not recorded or stored anywhere. I have paid the extra £8.99. But my heartbeat results are not being recorded, ie no History. I am getting SSL error messages cannot connect to server ? All my other apps are working. What is wrong with this app??.Version: 4.0.9

Unable to register high heart rateComes up with an error to detect high heart rate. When ever I feel palpitation I try to check and consistently 10-15 times it returns poor signal. I warmed my hands, I kept the phone on a table with just the cameras hanging out to keep my finger over the sensor but no avail. It’s detects the high rates and it’s almost as if it’s afraid to report that it’s so high. Developers please fix..Version: 4.0.6

Unsuitable for those outside "normal"The app does not have a way to record irregular heart rates/arrhythmia, especially during severe tachycardia, including SVT events. Instead, it interprets as poor signal and does nor offer an option to save the waveform. Wouldn't have paid had I known. Edit: Had to edit review to reduce the rating. The new look and its update are pretty bad. The app badly needs a feature where user gets an option to save the reading and waveform even if the app "thinks" it is wrong. It shows the waveform but decides not to save. This is useless. Also, with the exercises, there is no user flexibility in choosing what kind of exercises you wish to do and for how long you want to do them. There are some exercises, such as jumping jacks, step on stool, side plank that I cannot do due to some injuries and medical problems, but I have no option to simply skip these and move on to the next. I have to wait for the annoying voice to finish making me wait until I check out the next. Ain't nobody got time for that. I had high hopes with this app, but I now regret paying for this app..Version: 4.0.1

Heart rate monitor: worthless. 7 minute workout: 5 starsThe heart rate monitor works maybe 10% of the time. I use this app for the 7 minute workout which is short but really intense if you modify some of the exercises. For example instead of jumping jacks, do star jumps. Instead of step ups, do box jumps. Instead of tricep dips on a chair, do real dips between 2 chairs. Instead of lunges, do jumping lunges. I usually do two, seven minute workouts in about 20 minutes. It’s a great high intensity workout..Version: 4.0.5

DisappointingMeasures cardio fine, it is when you come to buy the "add ons", then try to get help, that you get in to misleading marketing descriptions and useless support. Quite happy to take money but when you try to clarify why the app is not doing what you paid for you get no support at all. I paid extra for the Pulse Waveform Pack which clearly states in the description that "Your pulse waveform of every measurement will also be saved in the history view". However the app only saves the last 30 days, which is actually useless. Have queried this with the makers and have not had a reply. Borderline fraud.Version: 4.0

Useful but there are problemsI like the app and I like the way that the data are displayed, but they’ve got some serious problems with continuity. About every fifth time that I go to use the app, it won’t measure anything and I have to delete it and then re-download it to get it to work. That’s after I’ve paid for a premium package, by the way. They don’t respond to emails about the issue, they just let you dangle and figure out for yourself that the only way to fix the problems is to delete and reload. I’m getting tired of doing it constantly..Version: 4.0.6
