InTune – Tuning Practice for Positive User Reviews

Love itGreat for refining your ear. It is fun too..Version: 1.1

Neat!Could use more than just a sine-wave and a single starting tone, but it's free, simple and stable, and helps improve your pitch discrimination, so what's not to like?.Version: 1.1

Ear Training the easy wayI love this app and so do my students! I start my classes with this app. My students really enjoy seeing if they can beat their last game. I also use this app with my private studio students. Addictive and fun..Version: 3.0.1

Great to learn intonationAs a musician we're always told to play on tune but how does one actually learn to recognize those subtle differences in pitch to know if we are flat or sharp? It would be nice if there is an app to help teach this. This app is it! Highly recommended. Great to "play" a few minutes a day. I expect my scores to improve over time. Some future recommendations if possible - allow the ability to repeat incorrect answers so people can learn from mistakes. Other sounds would be nicer if possible (brass, piano etc.) Well done.Version: 2.1

GreatVery good app..Version: 2.1

Great, simple app!I hope this app never gets taken down from the store. It’s a great idea! I wish there were more apps with ear training on the App Store..Version: 5.0.3

Great little app!Terrific app for when I want a quick distraction and a bit of practice. Beautiful interface, quick and fun, and I’m getting steadily better! The Cello add-on was well worth the buck-really enjoy hearing the instrument. Think I’ll buy oboe next..Version: 5.0

Can't hear anythingIs it just me? Or should I hear something?.Version: 3.0.1

Simple, effectiveGreat for pitch perception. Just in time for music school~.Version: 3.0.1

Great Learning ToolI am a high school choir director. I've shared this app with students to help develop and improve thier listening precision. They enjoy challenging themselves to improve and competing with others to see who can get the best score. It's a fun and fast way to see immediate results in your student's aural ability in rehearsal and performance..Version: 3.0.1

Fantastically precise and FUN!This game, based on ability to hear pitch and intonation, is surprisingly fun to play. It would be a great measure of basic musical aptitude - as far as hearing pitch, at least. Game advertisements say that use of this game may improve people's sense of pitch. Hmmm... Regardless, it is a fun way to test your sense of pitch. I encourage you to check it out. 👍.Version: 3.0.1

Makes ear training a fun game!Thank you! I use this app with my percussion students to help their ear for timpani tuning. It’s fun for them and I’m noticing improvement!.Version: 5.0.3

Great idea, some suggestionsI would love to have an option to change the note we are listening to (it’s always the same note), and an option to skip the first several levels.Version: 4.0.2

Played it onceHopefully it improves my ear, level 5 is difficult!.Version: 3.0.1

This app is really greatDefinitely helps improve your tone, and it’s also kind of addicting.Version: 4.0.3

Great App for IntonationLove this app! It's great for training your ear, and making it fun to boot! I do wish that if you reach higher levels, you didn't have to start at such a basic level each time. That's a very small thing, though. Really liking this app..Version: 3.0.1

Musician’s FriendEasy to use, well-Designed tool for musicians. It’s useful both for soloists and ensemble members. Helps to improve pitch differentiation/accuracy. Highly recommended!.Version: 5.0.3

Great for classroom use too!As a middle school band director I use this app to help my students start listening more carefully to fine differences in pitch. It’s very easy to understand and I like the binary choice between higher and lower. Since it resets each time to easier levels, the kids who got lost when we made it to the really fine distinctions are able to rejoin us. InTune really helps them start paying closer attention to pitch..Version: 3.0.1

Awesome app!Hey! This is a great app I plan to be a singer when I grow up and this really helps me with knowing if I vote the right note or not it is also challenging and fun! I am so happy you created this app! Thank you!.Version: 4.0.2

Fantastic app! It's applications are endless within any musical situation (pun intended). I have been using this app for a few weeks now and have already found myself fixing my choirs intonation to a meticulous degree. A truly great app, you can tell it was fabricated by a college professor, top notch!.Version: 3.0.1

Want to hear the tones again!I would give it 5 stars except for the glaringly obvious omission of being able to repay a pair of tones. Sometimes you miss the tones because someone talked or there was a loud noise. It can’t be hard; please add this in (didn’t it exist in previous iterations?). Please and thank you..Version: 3.0.1

1.53% and falling!A simple little app but for competitive music nerds out there it's a lot of fun! I'm sure it's good for you too....Version: 1.1

Serious/FunI've really enjoyed playing this game. It seems serious and fun at the same time. I'm getting better each time!.Version: 3.0.1

Awesome app!Loving this app. Downloaded it on a lark and have been testing it in different contexts, moods and lights to see if I can find a pattern in my ability to discern tones. I am not sure if I am actually strengthening some kind of brain-tune muscle, but I am improving over time. What does this do to our perception? Is the effect permanent? I am not a musician and do not sing. Just a curious daddy with two tots who are taking music lessons. They are playing with it too..Version: 2.1

ExcellentElegantly simple. Challenging rewarding and fun..Version: 3.0.1

Great for developing tone sensitivityI enjoy this app and find it helps develop pitch sensitivity. Recent updates have made it more enjoyable because there is less chance of missing due to impulsively hitting the wrong button, and you can also tell how many times you have missed (the previous version required you to track misses in your head). My one complaint is that you can't save your personal best for improvement purposes. All in all it is a great app, and fun to challenge friends with..Version: 3.0.1

Great AppYeah it would definitely be useful to include a repeat feature and more importantly a level selection feature.Version: 3.0.1

Fun Tuning GameThis app is fun but is lacking a simple instrument in the instrument selection page. This app is missing saxophones yet has the English Horn and even Koto. Everything else is fine and fun..Version: 5.0.3

Helpful! My only critique is that the pitch is always lower for like 10 rounds then it gets higher.Version: 3.0.1

GreatGreat app, I'm using this to improve pitch perception for my music degree aural tests! I seem to be improving !.Version: 2.1

Hope for iPad versionThis app is unique and works great. I have been using it for years on my iPhone. I just hope someday it will support iPad..Version: 4.0.1

FantasticThis app is one of the finest of its kind. I’ve had this for about 4 years now and I can safely say I feel a lot more secure in my ability to distinguish intonation differences; there is always room to constantly improve and that is what I love about this app!.Version: 4.0.2

Great appGreat app, works just fine. I would love for there to be a harder level with a third option of the second pitch being the same as the first pitch…this would really make things interesting as we get to smaller fractions of a half step!.Version: 3.0.1

Great app, but would like to see other featuresHere are a few features I’d like to see added: - ability to start at any level - ability to repeat the tones - ability to turn off three strike mode.Version: 4.0.2

I try this regularlyWhenever I get a chance i’ll open it up to train a little. The comparison chart might be a tiny bit off, my middle school students consistently get 5% or below..Version: 4.0.1

Does what it says on the tinDoes the job, nice design, nice and simple. Would be nice not to have to start from the beginning every time, and tones could be nicer....which would make it a 5*.Version: 3.0.1

Great to use in the classroomAs a middle school band director, teaching students to have an ear for intonation and tuning is important. My students love to use the app as a game - the contest is to see which class can score the highest. I love to see them have fun while learning to develop an ear for intonation. Their only concern, so also mine, is the tone generation can be somewhat uncomfortable when the whole class is listening. The team that has created this app should be commended for bringing such a great app to the public, and should make more!.Version: 3.0.1

GreatAddictive app. Definitely helping me with identifying notes that are semi tones apart. Love it..Version: 2.1

AwesomeLove it.Version: 3.0.1

Great app! Needs improvement.I recently switched back to Trumpet from French Horn, and I have a very good ear when it comes to tone. I think this is a great app for improving your tone, but I solely feel the sound of the tone is a bit annoying and if possible an option for the instrument making the tone could be implemented. I don't know if I think this because I'm a trumpet player or if I'm selfish but this is my opinion. I hope you take my suggestions into consideration, thank you..Version: 3.0.1

Talk about Customer Service!!I purchased the app one night late, and had no sound. Instantly emailed the designer. The next morning I received a reply and a working solution! Great app for tuning my ear, and awesome customer service!!.Version: 3.0.1

Great app. Quite amusingWhile I'm pretty confident in my own pitch perception I still find it fun. I bet it's very useful for those who may need it to improve their ears. Even for me, with absolute pitch and good ears, getting past level 4 is still a challenge :).Version: 3.0.1

Great practice!Simple but very effective and good to train your ears to different tones..Version: 3.0.1

Great app good app would be awesome with a few more options.Great app! I agree with other reviewers that three things that would improve the app: 1) ability to replay tones. (Especially after you got it wrong) 2) ability to practice without going back to 100% difference after missing three and 3) ability to choose the starting level..Version: 3.0.1

Works great, extra features would helpThis game appears to improve pitch sensitivity and does so more quickly than expected. Having an option for changing base pitches, which one is assessed (i.e. swipe on first or second pitch), replaying the tones and factoring speed into scoring would make this even more powerful. Worth the price as it stands though. Thanks for a solid implementation of a great idea..Version: 3.0.1

Great appGreat app just needs a replay button etc to make sure you have heard the two pitches correctly..Version: 1.1

Wondering of its accurateIs the test score accurate? It seems easy to get to 1% but according to the app intro page 1% is rare. I’m thinking the testing may not be accurate. Mostly depends on the device..Version: 4.0.1

Helps the ear get betterSimple. Easy to use..Version: 5.0.1

Awesome class toolI teach MS and HS bands and use this as a class ear-training tool. I know of no better way to practically apply intonation skills. This would be even cooler if it did octave apart tuning. But I love it anyway.Version: 3.0.1

Brilliant conceptBrilliant and useful. And will get even better. The developer is very receptive to suggestions. Excellent..Version: 3.0.1

Just got the gameImpressive. Initially I had some difficulty getting the pitch to be audible after a few rounds, but I reloaded the app, and it worked fine after that. Otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars..Version: 3.0.1

Great!Super useful and simple, too.Version: 3.0.1

Helpful for improving sense of pitch! This app is plenty helpful as is, but u agree with some other reviewers' suggestions about replaying the two pitches and taking out the three strikes. I also would like the option of seeing a measurement in cents instead of percentage of a half step..Version: 3.0.1

Very Good, But Please Vary TimbresThis is a very useful app, but I find that I have more difficulty when I am comparing pitches sounded by two different instruments. For example, I am learning to play the violin. When I attempt to tune to the piano, my accuracy goes down. Comparing the piano to the bowed violin string adds some complexity. Please add a variety of timbres so that users can compare pitches between instruments..Version: 3.0.1

Good App But Could Use Some TweakingEnjoyed the app and the challenges it offers. A good way to brush up on your musical listening skills which can improve musicianship. However, a chart or some type of "key" needs to be added to app that will better explain how to interpret the results & also save these results so the user can track their progress & see how well or if they are showing improvement..Version: 3.0.1

Just what I wantedI'm in a wind ensemble and I was looking to improve my intonation. I thought to myself that it would be cool if there was an app that tested intonation and then I discovered this. exactly what I was looking for :).Version: 1.1

Genius via SimplicityThis app has aided my ear so much. What I appreciate about it is, compared to so many others with busy interfaces and hundreds of options, it’s limited it to one thing. But it’s a VERY crucial thing! The support is really quick and professional, as well..Version: 4.0.2

Excellent for pitch training, good tool for singers! Not just for strings and instrumentalists! This app is helping me greatly improve my sense of pitch which helps with my interval training and singing in tune! Thanks so much for creating it!.Version: 3.0.1

Must Have AppI remember this app from back in the day. I redownloaded recently and I’m very happy to see the expanded range of notes to hear, and the variety of instruments. This app is a fun way to test and improve your ear, and I highly recommend for anyone who wants to fine tune their ears. My only complain is that some of the timpani sounds could be improved. The higher notes sound fine, but the low notes have so much impact and thud that it makes it really hard to hear the actual tone and pitch of the drum. Those low notes sound more like a bass drum than they do timpani. I think it would be beneficial if the timpani notes were played with a much softer mallet, as well as a lighter touch. That would create a more characteristic sound that mimics how a timpanist would actually play the drum. I hope I can see that improved as that’s the only thing holding back my rating from 4 stars to 5. Again though, very useful app and definitely worth being on any musicians phone..Version: 5.0.3

WholesomeYes it's brill. If you don't download it you're probably tone deaf. Hey, don't concern yourself, you could always audition for the X Factor..Version: 1.1

Great app for improving intonationOverall a good app but could be much better if it allowed you to start from your personal skill level, rather than having to start from the very beginning. Better yet, have the 3-strike game as an option instead and allow for an option to continue practicing. Another great addition would be including real instruments sounds instead of the rather annoying electronic pitch..Version: 3.0.1

More optionsI have discovered that some of my prior issues with this app have already been resolved, they are simply hard to find. A more noticeable options menu should be created and the option to play the notes at the same time should also be added..Version: 4.0.1

Simple and effective (and pretty too).If there's been a fault with previous versions of this app, it's been the visual design. The new make-over is great, though. Sleek and smart. In regards to the functionality of the app, I've been using it for a year now and it's completely transformed my listening skills. I hope Wittenberg develop more apps in future..Version: 3.0.1

Great app for improving pitch discriminationThis is a great app to help musicians improve their pitch discrimination, which in turn will improve in donation. Please please please add a feature to enable people to save their score from one use to the next!.Version: 3.0.1

It's super fun!My private teacher told me to get this and I've had so much fun with it! It's a very fun educational game and it's great for on the go fun. I would recommend this to any person who plays an instrument.Version: 3.0.1

Great app for music teaching!I have had fun exposing this app to my students, and trying it for myself! I use it for private or group string lessons, and I have noticed that the students are really paying more attention to pitch as a result. The only thing that I would like to see is an option to replay the two tones. I would highly recommend to all music teachers who are trying to help their kids develop discriminating ears, and for all music students who are trying to improve on intonation!.Version: 3.0.1

Excellent! This app really does help develop ones ability to recognize a percentage of a difference between two notes. It is quite useful. It would be nice to see something get added to show the user where their individual score rates among the average person's percentage score, but besides that this app does exactly what it's designed to do. Thanks!.Version: 3.0.1

Great appI've been using it for about two weeks and my sense of pitch has improved immensely. when i started i would lose around 2% now i can get less than 1% easily. my playing is definitely more refined as a result of using this app. i gave it 4/5 stars because (since it's not free...) i feel like it could use more features and i find it annoying that you have to start at 'level 1' each time..Version: 3.0.1

Please add a way to replay the pitchesI use this for tuning practice and highly recommend it. The old version was better in my opinion, but I still like this version. I like that the pitches are not played as fast with this new version, but I liked the scoring with the old version. I would love it if there were a way to hear the pitches played again. Sometimes a second listen is needed to make sure your brain is thinking correctly. Neither the first or second version has offered this. I figured that would be among the list of improvements foe sure. Also maybe something telling you where your problem areas are… which octaves… and those could be used to drill down even further..Version: 5.0.3

This app is great!!!I am attending one of the best musical high schools in north america, and it is very important to be in tune all the time. This app is awesome for that!.Version: 2.1
