Turnitin Feedback Studio for Negative User Reviews

App locks up, or doesn't load up, sync issues. Before the upgrade to this version, the turnitin app was great. I was able to mark my work wherever and whenever. The marking on the app would sync effectively and all was well. But since the upgrade to the latest version, I have been plagued with sync issues, the app locking up, or not even loading up. I have cleared plenty of memory space, I have refreshed my device, and searched for solutions online. There seems no way to get in touch with the app developers to report these issues, and from what I can gather through the lines of communication in the college I work for, the developers of turnitin are inundated with issues and are unable to cope. Sort it out soon, otherwise you will lose supporters like myself..Version: 2.0.2

Brilliant but keeps crashing! This really is a fantastic app and makes marking so much easier, however it is severely let down by the consistent crashing. Once this is rectified, it will definitely be 5/5 but until then, please work on resolving it. Marking can be tedious enough without having to stop halfway through and wait for the app to start working again..Version: 1.4.0

Handy app, but crashes frequentlyI’ve been using this app for quite a while now, but lately it’s been crashing frequently - even when I’m in the middle of grading an essay! This is quite frustrating. Can you please, please, please, release a new edition that takes care of this issue? Additionally, it would be nice to be able to highlight one word at a time instead of having to select the entire line and narrow it down. This adds to the time it takes me to grade..Version: 3.1.7

FormattingI find a real bugbear that when typing feedback in the summary section, it squashes everything up without any spacing. Why iParadigms, can we not space out paragraphs in our feedback to make the feedback more readable for students? There has also been a few syncing issues but not consistently..Version: 3.1

A Few More Improvements NeededAs a teacher, this app is very useful. I like the ability to download papers and then grade offline. Voice comments are easy. But there are a few things the app still needs. 1. Ability to submit student papers. I can’t upload a student’s paper to the app. If they email after the deadline, I want to upload manually. 2. Ability to edit rubrics. Only can do this on the website, so it would be better if I could do it directly from the app. 3. This one’s a stretch, but can you make it work with the Apple Pencil?.Version: 3.1.2

Needs better selecting toolI agree with the previous reviewer who complained about having to select an entire line. More often, I want to select just one word, and it would be much quicker if I could double tap on the word to select it, as is possible in other apps. Even better would be a pencil tool with which I could circle and underline words, like I can in iAnnotate. I like the Grademark comments and the ability to create my own Grademark comments. However, selecting the line and minimizing it takes too long and will keep me from using this app. I will probably continue to use iAnnotate until this feature is improved..Version: 1.1.3

Not syncing gradesI much prefer to mark on the iPad. The app was perfect but now it locks up and whilst it syncs my feedback it doesn't sync the grades. Please fix it! I love this app as it makes marking so much more convenient than doing so on a desktop but it's a real pain entering grades manually..Version: 2.0.2

Used to be amazing... Now it's just terribleOur school spent thousands of dollars on TurnItIn so we could score essays on our school-issued iPads. Last year our lives as teachers greatly improved with this app. It was so easy to use and full of useful features. Now I am lucky if I can get two essays scored before it either freezes or crashes. I hope this company can get it together and think about customer service. Right now I can't access any of my students' work..Version: 1.4.0

HorribleThis app is so glitchy and constantly crashes. I have assignments that I need to hand in and I can’t because it won’t even let me get into the app it just crashes the minute I open it. If I could give this app 0 starts I would..Version: 3.1.8

Please add handwriting functionalityPlease add the ability to make handwritten comments. Often as a marker you need to be able to circle and underline parts of a paper..Version: 2.1.3

AwfulJust... awfully programmed app. Crashes randomly. Breaks apple’s built-in dictation by not letting you correct words properly. Swipes between essays when you’re trying to highlight text. Inserts random characters in place of punctuation if you read linked comments from an attached rubric. Avoid like the plague..Version: 3.1.8

Could not loginI could not login to Turnitin using this app; it worked perfectly on the web..Version: 3.1.8

AwfulVery hard to use..Version: 1.2.4

Just simply crashes too oftenWhen you have hundreds of assignments to mark in a very short period of time you need an app that is responsive and one that is not going to crash constantly. I can’t even mark one paper without it crashing or freezing. With this product being one of the most common products used by universities and alike to the marking of student papers it would be expected that the app would be of a sufficient quality that it would enable the lecturer to mark the papers efficiently. I am disappointed that I can’t use my IPAD to mark, as the IPAD is the most convenient way to mark papers without being tied to the office. Please fix this issue ASAP..Version: 3.1.7

Crashes constantlyCrashes in the middle of grading papers--over and over and over. Turnitin seems to make scads of money, but ignores this development problem. Would love to grade on the ipad, but the trouble just isn't worth it. Highlighting lines in papers is also extremely kludgy. You have to highlight an entire line and then narrow it--if you can before the app crashes again..Version: 3.1.8

Terrible, won't sync at allTurnitin is great on a Mac, but this app just will not sync my students' papers and thus, is useless. Please fix as I'd love to be able to use it..Version: 1.3.0

Still terribleCrashes constantly No Apple Pencil support Be better!.Version: 3.2.3

Please develop app for student use. This app is very nice for teacher use (5 stars!), but is not designed for student use (hence the 3 stars). Please accelerate your development process for a student Turnitin app. As a 1-to-1 iPad high school, our students desire a method to upload documents (.doc, .pdf, .ppt - and Pages/Keynote documents would be a bonus!) rather than copy/paste their work and lose all formatting. Also, they must view their graded work using their iPad browser. It would be better if they could view their graded work using an app..Version: 1.1

Continuous crashing…exhaustingKeeps on crashing for no apparent reason, despite recent update promising stability improvements. Borderline unusable..Version: 3.2.4

Not worthwhile for iPad Pro if the app doesn’t add Apple Pencil supportPlease add Apple Pencil support for those of us who wish to mark solely on the iPad Pro and solely through Turnitin Feedback studio? I find I have to download the essays, then open them in a totally different app that has Apple Pencil support in order to mark them, then email the marked scripts to students. This can be made more efficient if I could use my pencil in the Feedback studio. Please consider this for future updates? Or if it is available and I just can’t seem to find it, please advise?.Version: 3.1.8

Waste of timeI've wasted far too much time trying to resolve sync and connection issues. Lost 30+ papers worth of comments in Sem1 (students & colleagues couldn't view) and can't even get the app to connect to do any marking within the app in Sem2.Version: 1.4.1

Please add these functions !🙏Can there be a scribble overlay? So that Apple Pencil can tick, circle, underline and change colours quickly? Similar to the functions of “Notes” on an iPad, or the “ GoodNotes” app and alike. Have one of those simple “markup” toolbars. I’d like a highlighter that doesn’t automatically open a dialogue box. Please also allow the computer or iPad to “speak” the content… when marking eyes are delirious, this would be lifesaving. Perhaps allow the app to detect a “finger” for scrolling, and isolate the Apple Pencil for text/markup functions only. That might make highlighting text less painful by not needing to adjust a box over the part you want. Maybe make the Apple Pencil sensitive to pressure on the screen (Haptic Touch), which could activate the “selected markup” function. Also, once a “quick mark” has been used, please allow me to move it/position it with a quick drag. I don’t have time for “click, hold, wait, drag” 🤬. With 100s of assessments to mark, applying feedback is too slow without a scribble function, and awfully triggering for anxiety 🤯😮‍💨 Please please please work on this 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Also, when using QuickMarks, can we allow the user to customise individual COLOUR of comments we create. This might allow quicker access to finding the right comment.. eg. green for good, red for incorrect, yellow for giving a suggestion to student work etc..Version: 3.2.1

Offline has problems that weren't there previouslyI bought and iPad simply to have the function of marking offline. In April this was great - dealt with slow response because wasn't trying to sync all the time. Uploaded no problems. Now, when I select a comment on the app while offline I can only see the very first comment I made while offline until exiting the comment and then re-entering it (time consuming if you chose the wrong one). The app also crashes when re-syncing to the internet, resulting in me losing a lot of marking and having to redo it. When is Turnitin going to get their act together on this app?.Version: 3.0.2

UselessIt is of no use if it doesn’t allow to mark anonymous work. Please consider adding this feature..Version: 3.2.4

TerriblePrior to the update it worked well although I would still like to see the improvements detailed below. Now it just doesn't work at all. I don't want to delete it as then I would have to resync everythinh manually. Very disappointed. We get students to use this, end up relying on it totally -only to find it unreliable. *old review prior to update* It's good to be able to mark offline however there are other features which are needed via the app for it to live up to its potential. Improvements I'd like to see: Being able to add classes and edit assignment settings. Being able to synchronise all classes and assignments with one click as opposed to doing it manually by going into each assignment folder - this is laborious, time consuming and prehistoric..Version: 1.2.3

Endless freezing and crashingI generally hate the feedback studio—being able to switch between papers used to be a piece of cake, allowing you to compare a student’s drafts. Gone. The iPad app doesn’t show grammar mark up, has sync problems, is clumsy to use, doesn’t allow resizing of comments (so the font is tinier than ANYTHING ELSE on the entire iPad), constantly freezes and crashes. I use TurnItIn a third of what I used to because the grading is so much more cumbersome. The app has increasingly become a crashing nightmare so I CAN’T use it most of the time..Version: 3.2.3

Could be great...This is such a useful app, but so frustrating when it crashes, or is slow to load rubric, or (worst of all) when all rubric scores have been input then mysteriously disappear, saving the final mark but not the individual component marks..Version: 1.4.0

Not connected to InternetI don't know why the app always says it needs internet connection but there is already wifi connection or mobile data..Version: 1.4.1

The system that most wastes academics’ precious time.Turnitin seems to have served a useful purpose in its early days—the early NCLB era—when it was simply a plagiarism-checker and when students were still required to submit their a hard copy of their assignments on good, old-fashioned paper. But since universities have generally shifted to allowing their students to submit only in electronic form, and using Tii for this purpose, Turnitin has simply not kept up at the technological level at all. It is grindingly slow. It tends to be crashy (as in, you’re submitting a grade, then the app crashes before it’s recorded on the sever). It’s copy-and-paste functionality acts like something from 1997. On the iPad, it does not seem to implement the iOS dictation functions and spelling-correct very well. The Quickmark system is slightly helpful but not really all that quick. The process of adding free form comments does not feel fluid at all. And oh yeah, it can take up to half a minute for the annotations that are already on a paper to appear onscreen. (And it’s not too hard to argue that all of this actually warps the quality of feedback that students receive.) Moreover, all of these above functions could be performed using using other software tools with significantly more efficiency. But Turnitin uses the advantage of its market-capture monopoly to avoid developing its product for actual users. The real problem, of course, is that most of its users are poor, or at least by definition underpaid (they are graduate students and teaching assistants, or paid markers). This means they need to work more hours to make enough money to live on. But the tool they must use to complete their job actually slows down the process of working. So, they can’t take on additional work, and thus, they remain poor and have a degraded quality of life. All because some company ended up with software mission-creep to the point that it had deployed a bad product everywhere that somehow everyone was still using..Version: 3.2.3

Good but needs tweaksThis is a reasonably fully featured version of the website, but I tend to find quick marks cover up the text you are commenting upon with no way to move the quick marks to the margins or somewhere where they are not in the way of reading the actual work of the student.Version: 1.2.1

Greatly DisappointedI used to like this app, it has always been a bit buggy, but the convenience for me outweighed the minor irritations. However, recently I have experienced a lot of syncing problems from the app to the site. I recently had to go back and regrade about 15 essays--I don't have time for this. Come on turnitin, for the amount the schools pay for this product, I expect a better, more reliable app. Update: Apparently you don’t care about comments since you have never responded to this. Use some of the money you charge schools to create a workable app. I’d give this a zero if I could. Now, the app will not even let me sign in using the same email and password I use to sign in with the browser..Version: 3.1.7

Worse than useless - huge problemsAs others have said, this used to be excellent but is now awful. After latest update I can’t even open it. Only bright side is that at least it can’t lose my marking any more..Version: 3.1.8

BuggyThis version has critical bugs and should not have been pushed out to the App Store. Data is not properly synchronised with the database, and the grading forms are not totalled properly. When these issues are fixed the app will be worth having, till then I won't waste my time using it..Version: 1.3.0

Stupid passcodeFor the life of me, I cannot recall even setting up a passcode for this app. Supposedly after three incorrect guesses, it will log you out of your classes. This doesn’t happen - the passcode dialog refuses to go away. I will now try to delete the app and reinstall. Not holding my breath though..Version: 1.2.2

New update is rubbishThe new update won't sync submissions or changes. Comments saved on the app don't appear on the online version of turn it in either. I am missing the feature that shows how many have been marked and how many still need marking. Think this should be brought back..Version: 2.2.0

Can not open in ipad 3 after updateI updated to the latest version. And simply cannot open it (black screen for a while and jump out to home screen) Anyone like me or just my terrible unluck?!.Version: 1.2

When will there be a Student App? 🤔📝Turnitin needs to make an app accessible for students, as the vast majority of users are students not teachers, especially those who use an iPad for school. Having to log into the website and submit a paper is unnecessary and long when an app suits iPad users much more. Showbie has made a simple, yet amazing app where it is possible to submit a file, instead of copy&paste like Turnitin. PLEASE make a Student Turnitin App available for free for 100s of thousands of students. 👔.Version: 1.4.1

Does not work with new classes. My old classes show nicely. However, the classes I added in Oct 2021 are not working. They show up but when I touch the course, the app crashes and closes down. I have tries to log out and log in a number of times but I see no change in behaviour..Version: 3.2.2

WtfCan not even download it! Wtf.Version: 1.4.0

Update doesn't workGreat app and was working well until the recent uodate....now can't open it at all!.Version: 1.2

Needs functions to sort and find specific assignmentsIn addition to the difficulties in making extensive comments when marking with the app, there is also no way to conveniently identify and view specific assignments to mark. With multiple markers all allocated specific assignments, to avoid any problems of two people marking a single paper at the same time, it would be helpful if we could sort the papers to find ours in a simple and reliable fashion as is possible when marking through blackboard on a traditional browser interface..Version: 3.1.6

Typically TurnitinI mean I’m used to this being rubbish but today’s new nonsense is randomly downloading assignments I’ve not clicked on. I wanted to just get the reports I’m supposed to mark out of a larger clas but instead it’s just randomly downloading other reports that are next to those I selected. Well done turnitin on a typically world class user experience..Version: 3.1.8

AwfulThis is an awfully devolved app. It never works and is hard to use. DO ME A FAVOR AND NOT GET IT!!!.Version: 3.2.3

Not good for lockdownWith many academics around the world currently working from home, having slick easy to use marking software is essential. Well don’t look here, this app is buggy as hell, it frequently crashes on my iPad Pro. I cannot annotate comments with a stylus, cannot even italicise text in my feedback - vital for a biology lecturer. Come on TurnItIn, update this app, you need to help us make marking students work as slick as possible. This app in its current form makes marking, slower more laborious and more frustrating..Version: 3.1.8

Crashes every 30sec…I really liked using the offline turnitin marking and feedback tool, but it has become utter pointless now as the app crashes practically every 30sec, often in the middle on typing feedback. Please sort out this constant crashing as no good now.Version: 3.2.3

BadI’d love to be able to use the app to upload my assignments since I always complete them via my phone but I end up having to use the website. I can’t upload any files from my phone, unless it is a PDF. please make it so we can upload things from google drive because using the app is a lot better. I will give 5 stars when this action is possible, this app has lots of potential to be good..Version: 3.1.8

This used to be so convenient! As an adjunct Instructor I use many tools to help me balance a part time course load and a full time job. I teach at 2 different college. One has used Brightspace, and their app is buggy, but at least lets me in to add points. We are switching programs over the next year- so I’m hoping for a better system. Turnitin has always been a good feature for me as a student, and I’ve been pleased over the last few years to use the app to allow me to grade on the go via my iPad. However... this latest change will not allow me in. I have deleted and re-downloaded the app to no avail. The link to add a course does not read my app. I even had it open to see if that was the issue. But no, I get a webpage that will take me to the App Store where I already have the app..Version: 3.1.4

Unspeakably awful “part deux”I wrote this a while ago. Thankfully, after a while working we’re back on familiar territory: “I’m compelled to use this to mark essays submitted through Moodle and I assume my institution has to pay for anti plagiarism software so this is not a “freebie” and there is consequently no excuse for it being so awful. Crashes ALL THE TIME.” Literally, life-diminishing!.Version: 3.2.4

STUDENT ACCESSPlease make this app available to students, so they can check their classes..Version: 1.2.4

Won’t openAs several other reviews have noted, the app opens to a white screen and then crashes. Is there a reason for this? I used to love using the app to provide draft feedback. It was so much easier than the web version..Version: 3.2.4

An app that had promise and then crashed and burnedSo I’ve been using the Turnitin app way back since the iPad second generation was released. I thought that the future had come early when I was marking reports on my new iPad while watching the cricket live in the stadium. It was just a nirvana moment. I loved the integration and was pretty chuffed with it all. Then it just went down hill a little and became a bit unwieldy, having to get codes for every single paper I marked. But then, feedback studio strolled into the scene and with it a new fresh shiny app. I was logged in to my institution and had pulled down all my classes to mark! I felt integrated and empowered to break free of the confines of being a desk slave with this sleek new platform. But alas, my story does not have a happy ending. Updates where had, singing in disappeared along with the lack of blackboard integration of Turnitin and so back to the Stone Age of getting codes from papers to get the cohort open in the app. But, at least we have a nice app to work with in iOS, albeIt clunky access to cohorts. Nope. It needed an update. How dare an app be so functional. Throw in all the killbits to drive them back to their desks. Open app. Crash Reopen app. Crash Open subject. Crash Open assessment. Crash Open student paper. Crash Mark said student paper. Crash Lose all summative comments just typed up for that student after mid type crash… priceless. I need some stability in my life. If you are like me, make sure you have another source of stability around you while you use this app..Version: 3.2.4

Where are all the obvious features?I got this to work well enough in a couple of minutes. I can see the submissions, and my rubric. So far so good. But come on what’s this? No search, page navigation, thumbnails, bookmarks? Not having Pencil handwriting support I can dig, because of the need to sync with the server and not break its data. But this is pretty hobbled. I need to flip between references and my last seen page, or between different pages. Search for specific terms, you know, basic stuff. Marking a 60 page dissertation is going to take all day with this thing. I’m going back to the Macbook to get through my stack, or maybe siphon the PDFs into something slick like Notability, then fix the rubric scales in here later. Or not..Version: 3.1.8

Rubbish on tablets/iPad, just like the webI tried using this app because Turnitin on the iPad through Safari is unusable. I can’t add in-text comments without furiously tapping, and using the on-screen keyboard adjusts the view so I can’t actually visualize the comment as I’m typing it. So I am “typing blind.” This app is nearly as bad. It’s as slow as the web layout, and even more clumsy in terms of editing. Completely unusable. Blackboard is bad enough to use on tablets (and completely worthless as a TA or instructor), Turnitin isn’t really making it any easier. What kind of UI engineer designs these apps?.Version: 3.1.3

Missing features and unreliable syncsFrom the professor’s side, the app is too slow to be useful. This should be a quick way to comment on papers in a convenient location, instead of tracking dozens of email attachments. But marking anything more than general comments takes entirely too long - highlighting a single word requires highlighting a whole line and then making the highlight shorter. Moving or deleting comments is a major hassle. Apple pencil support is really a must-have to make this app worthwhile. At the same time, the Turnitin app only lists 44 of the 55 students on Blackboard, and many of them report failed uploads or submissions that I cannot see..Version: 3.1.1

Not very goodMake it available for students to log in.Version: 1.2.3

Basically UselessNo marking groups not numbers for Anonymous marking: poor for such a large provider..Version: 3.2.3

Doesn’t workThis was a wonderful app. I could mark from anywhere with incredible ease and I used it all the time. I loved it. Now though it simply does not work. I keep optimistically checking for an update to fix the issues, but it doesn’t appear. Best deleted and forgotten, but if I had designed turnitin I would be gutted. Such a fabulous app and concept that is now broken and unusable. If you are thinking of downloading it, don’t bother unless the reviews improve..Version: 3.2.4

Unreliable and pointlessThe idea is great, the execution very lazy. No support for Apple Pencil, even though that’s been out for two years and having it would be such a great improvement. Random crashes on my top of the line Apple pro. Just stuff that should have been refined by now. A real shame because the potential is wonderful. It just isn’t realised. Further, the old version of Turnitin was better on my Mac because I could switch easily and quickly between a single student’s assignments. Honestly I don’t know what the people in charge of this are doing with their time—I guess they think they have a captive market..Version: 3.1.7

App crashing every 5 secondsI used to use this app all the time on my Ipad and it was very good. Now it just crashes all the time. Support has been useless..Version: 3.2.3

Good potential but doesn’t live up to the hypeThis app could be awesome. However, the constant crashes are genuinely frustrating. I would also like the ability to remove a class after the semester is over..Version: 3.1.8

A crash course in crashing...I attempted to grade three papers this evening. The app crashed at least a dozen times and failed to sync about as many comments/markings. I reset my iPad, but to no avail. I had to switch back to the browser version because, at this rate, while binging on Game of Thrones, winter would arrive before I would be able to finish grading. Furthermore, as others have noted, Apple Pencil support is basic, at best. It highlights an entire sentence instead of the word I tapped on, and you need to move the highlight to the desired place, which takes time. Perhaps they can use some of the $1.7 billion they just made to fix some of these bugs?.Version: 3.1.7

Pointless AppIf you’re an instructor, this is pointless. The interface to give feedback is cumbersome on a mobile device. There is no functionality to upload new files or cut/paste submissions to your current classes or assignments, which was the whole reason I downloaded the app. You’ll have to stick with the website. Turnitin has had plenty of time to develop a functional app. Clearly, it’s not on their to-do list even though most of their users are on mobile devices. A real shame..Version: 3.2.3

Won’t open on iPad AirThe previous version was disappointingly limited but did at least work. This one won’t open on my iPad Air. Why do academics have to put up with such junk while monopoly suppliers rake in the profits? I suppose I answered my own question there..Version: 3.1.8

Great functionality but buggyThis app has huge potential but if have had lots of bugs on iOS7. They are sorting these bugs out but as it stands now, the app is barely usable..Version: 1.1.3

BuggyThis app has potential to be great but crashes more than a toddler in roller skates. Super frustrating. Would be awesome if it also incorporated Apple Pencil and hand written annotations..Version: 3.1.7

Not acceptableThis app is not acceptable for an important application as this. Crashes every other minute. Does not sync scoresheets or feedback, or does this haphazardly. I used to recommend colleagues how easy using the app was. Now avoid like the plague..Version: 3.1.4

Absolutely horribleThis app rarely ever opens for more than 5 seconds. This needs to be fixed. The interfaces are confusing and everything is extremely slow. You need to fix this pathetic mess of an app..Version: 3.2.4

CrashesCrashes within 30 seconds of opening app, every time. Cannot cope with sync issues between browser and app. Has so much potential, but fails to deliver in spectacularly disappointing fashion..Version: 3.2.3

Used to be more reliableI have always done a lot of marking using the iPad app. The app has been becoming less and less reliable. I open an assignment to mark and now the app, of its own accord, just decides to close the assignment. I open it up again and it closes automatically. I begin to write comments and then the comments aren’t saved and so I need to write the comments again. When are you planning to upgrade the app? It already has poor ratings..Version: 3.1.8

It’s getting worse all the time.In the past few years this app has gone from bad to worse. I use it for grading of course and it is so uninstinctive and there are so many aspects of this that are not modifiable on the iPad that it makes me feel as if I’d be better off just sitting in front of my computer or downloading the papers to something like Iannotate. I haven’t used it in two years and when I came back to it there were a whole bunch of more Quick Marks for primary and secondary school students and since I teach at a university I wanted to get rid of them. However there is no way to do this and it takes longer to find the Quick Mark categories I want. That is one of many glitches that suggests the app developers don’t actually grade papers or use this app. It’s probably easier for them because they keep buying up rival plagiarism detection companies..Version: 3.1.7

What About the Students?!This app needs to be student accessible. I am a college student and I use my iPad for literally everything. I hate using my PC but have yet to buy a Mac because I am a broke college kid, so my iPad mini practically is my computer. I got really excited when I saw an app was available and jumped the gun on downloading it, only to find I can't use it. I am pretty bummed out actually. So much so, I actually left a review; I never do that. THINK OF THE CHILDREN. You'd probably have a lot more than 2 stars Turnitin if you had thought of that. That is all..Version: 1.4.1

Even one star is generousThis just doesn’t work, perhaps because it needs to be updated to work with iOS for iPad 14. When I click on the email that should create a class link, I’m told I’m not using an iOS device, so can’t log in to the app at all..Version: 3.1.8

I hateNever loads and always glitches out of the app. And even if it does work it takes like 3 days to submit something ..Version: 3.2.4

New version is slowThe latest update has made the app clunky and slow to load. Every time I log in it takes several minutes to update the submissions. It takes several minutes to log out too. The previous version worked well. Wish it hadn't been tinkered with!.Version: 2.0.0

Haram>:(.Version: 3.2.1

Update was a failureI use this app on a daily basis, but since the update it has been slow, full of bugs, and has become just another technological irritant. I am the technology-resource teacher at my school and I had been touting this app as an excellent tool for instructors, but now I am the fool as it has become nothing but a subpar companion to the website. Hoping for a fix.....Version: 1.4.1

Worse and worseThis app would be great for grading on an iPad but it is ruined by - easily deleting the whole comment box and no comment editing capacity. I’m giving up..Version: 3.2.3

Not working anymoreOf course it may be a new feature to improve my work life balance but the app is not working anymore. Can’t add a class, hence cannot do any work. Used to be helpful but now absolutely useless..Version: 3.1.7

How about noOnly teachers can use this app, not students. This is frustrating because it would make turning in assignments on the iPad a lot easier for students rather than having to go on a computer. 0/all students would recommend this app. You wouldn't even get a star if it weren't for the fact that I can't send in this review without one. Who makes an app just for teacher accounts?!.Version: 1.2.1

Not happy with updateLove the app, but latest update removed grading progress from assignment index page. Now I can no longer tell which assignments have been graded, or how far through an I assignment I've gotten without opening each assignment individually. This is a big step backwards in functionality..Version: 2.2.0

Dreadful, neglected appIt’s quite clear the developer has abandoned this app. It’s buggy, unreliable, and the pencil support for iPad is terrible. I won’t be coming back..Version: 3.2.3

Cannot open in ipad 3 after app update. This app was working well until the latest app update. Now I can't even open it! There is a known issue with IOS 7, but now it seems as though it doesn't even work with IOS 6!!!!.Version: 1.2

Extremely frustrating experienceI only started using this app a couple of weeks ago when I got a tablet, and it has been a constant source of irritation to me since then. Various glitches are really time-consuming, including the fact that default highlighting is by whole line rather than word. To top this, the app started crashing following the latest maintenance period, locking me out from assignments that urgently require marking. Please work on improving this software - it could be such a lifesaver, but really isn't up to scratch just now!.Version: 3.1.7

A stupendously bad app by a company specialising in ugly, dysfunctional VLEI am amazed at Blackboard. A big corporate player ought to have been able to employ half-decent iOS developers. This app is so unbelievably bad that it is a farce - and the fact that it has barely been updated to incorporate even the most basic iOS or iPadOS features or that Blackboard does not care about user feedback ought to have convinced universities to slam the door on this company. Blackboard deserves a swift and total oblivion. The sonnet this happens the better for students and educators..Version: 3.1.8

Worst app I’ve ever hadDownloaded this app as I had results when I couldn’t access a PC as it won’t work on my mobile internet. I’m only writing a review because this app is so terrible. I couldn’t even get to the login! I have an account linked with my college and I put the student email and password in, didn’t recognise email, no way for you to exit the text screen in-app, to actually click the “sign up/forgot password bit! Tried to sign up again and it was ridiculous, just ended up waiting to use a computer to see my results!.Version: 3.1.8

Flawed, but better than nothingThere are so many silly elements of this app, but I’m grateful for it nonetheless. I probably wouldn’t buy an iPad if you are not for the Turnitin app (I am a prof. who grades hundreds of papers). This version is better than previous ones. I like the summary comment field. The strikethrough function is really stupid. I can’t believe you have to select a whole line, then reduce it until you have the word or words you want to strike out. I do not like the automatic capitalization of my comments that I insert in text. Unless it’s a complete sentence, I don’t think I should begin with a capital letter. As I write this, I think what most annoys me is it keeps crashing on a 2018 iPad with 128 GB of storage — crashes about three times per paper..Version: 3.1.8

Allow HandwritingIf it enabled users to write, scribble, draw, or otherwise personalize the comments without being rooted to the keyboard, I would use this app in a second. The voice comments are great, but the app does not take advantage of all the capabilities of the iPad. Until you make handwriting possible, I will continue to use Notability. Please allow free-hand drawing and writing..Version: 1.4.1

App not workingUsed to be really useful but the recent version has been problematic and now refuses to run..Version: 3.2.3

Simply awful. Would give no stars!Using an IPad to mark is so much easier than a desktop computer HOWEVER, I have had no end of problems with this version. Lose feedback comments (just disappear!), duplicated feedback on learner scripts using text and pre-loaded comments of which I must find time to delete. Does not sync with computer/ VLE. Appalling product for teachers and lecturers. Several complaints to Turnitin via institution with no solutions provided. Also no help over learners being able to view grades during marking, when linked to VLE (Moodle). Exasperated! Little time to mark students work as it is!.Version: 3.1.8

Much room for improvementI find marking using the iPad app easier than marking on an internet browser, however being able to use the Apple Pencil would make the marking experience more user friendly, particularly when trying to select text to comment on..Version: 3.2.3

Crashes all the time.I was a big fan of Turnitin on the iPad but this latest version does not work at all. It opens up shows the classes and immediately crashes and shuts down..Version: 3.2.4

Misleading not for studentsDownloaded this thinking i could use my student turnitin login to help save time when submitting work seeing as thanks to the addition of Microsoft word to iPad i can complete some assignments on my iPad, But it is only for lecturers and tutors as once i logged on it kicked me off stating that i did not have any classes, when in fact i have several. It would be nice if there was an app that was developed for the student submission..Version: 1.3.0

Unusable.Just updated the app and now it won’t even open. Totally unfit for purpose. If you have an old version that still works, avoid updating until this is fixed..Version: 3.1.8

Broken and dangerousUPDATE: October 2017 I thought that after 9 months they would have fixed this app and the problems with not syncing scripts. Sadly not... so my advice stands: AVOID. I can’t believe this is still so riddled with problems, despite getting an interface refresh. PREVIOUS POST: I graded 3 papers before I realised it wasn't going to sync. Luckily for me I stopped there and went over to PC. Had I graded a whole class I would have been considerably angrier. I'll not be using until I'm sure it worked. Like others, I find the developers elusive..Version: 3.0.2

No Annotations? The entire point of grading on an iPad would be to annotate the paper with the Apple Pencil. So why is this not included?.Version: 3.2.3

Always crashes out of appThe worst app, crashes out within 5 seconds after I get on. Fix it now 😡👨🏿‍🦰.Version: 3.2.4

Not practical for regular usage by teachersWhile the app does offer the teacher the convenience of grading on an ipad, the app doesn't offer any of the same features as the web site. There is no check for originality or grammar, or any way to edit assignment settings or for a teacher to upload a paper for a student. Patiently waiting an update which offers these features..Version: 1.2.3

PLEASE return to previous version of this app! This used to be an absolutely excellent app, which I recommended to colleagues as superior to the desktop version of Turnitin. Having upgraded the computer version to Feedback Studio (which is now like the previous app), I cannot see why the iPad app should be so regressive. It doesn't sync readily with the submissions on the computer (often does not sync at all!) and the comment box is not nearly as user friendly. PLEASE revert to the previous app..Version: 3.1

Summary Comment Box is AWFULThe summary comment box is where you’re most likely to write lengthy feedback for your student. It has two buttons, ‘Cancel’ (which deletes what you’ve written) and ‘Done’ (which saves it). BUT WAIT. You can also swipe the box down to the bottom of the screen, which is a totally instinctive thing to do if you’re on your iPad and you just want to briefly check on something that your student has written before you continue writing. But guess what?! Doing do automatically DELETES everything you’ve typed in the box since you last clicked ‘Done’! Absolute bane of my existence; the number of times I’ve either accidentally swiped it down, or swiped it down instinctively to look at the work before I’ve managed to catch myself, deleting loads of really carefully thought-through text. PLEASE FIX THIS!!! It would also be very useful if this had decent manual mark up functionality. I have an Apple Pencil so I would very much like to circle and underline things on the screen rather than search through menus for the appropriate quick mark. Seems like a very basic omission for an iPad app. On a positive note, I have (so far) not had the problems with syncing that other users have reported..Version: 3.2.3

Non-responsive to glitches. This app made my life so much better until I experienced all of it’s glitches! NOW with the latest update, it crashes every time I try to open anything in it. I don’t even get past the screen classes screen. Such an enormous disappointment. I asked fro help and they could not do anything for me. They sent me right back to the laptop app where I get to experience repetitive strain, eye strain, back problems etc etc. Thanks, Feedback studio..Version: 3.2.3

Annoying flawsThis could be a great app and, in terms of some features, is better than the HTML powered desktop version. Random crashes (app exits) and comment boxes that lose their text content for no reason, mean that the app cannot be relied upon. The risk of losing work due to an app crash or losing comments due to a random emptying of a comment bubble, is too great for me. Such a shame because clearly an unusual amount of thought and design intelligence gone into this app. Time for the developers to engage in some intensive beta testing and squash the bugs..Version: 1.4.1

IOS experience is uselessWhatever I try with Turnitin the experience on an iPad is useless, so inconsistent. In a web browser some functions don't work, and in the app also some aspects don't work or can easily get to to help marking (rubrics). Have to resort to mark work at a computer. Please improve the experience considerably or just don't market it anymore. More time is wasted getting frustrated trying make it work than actually marking..Version: 2.1.3

Not working at all!Stuck on “We are currently upgrading your app. This may take a few moments” - A few YEARS more like it. It’s been stuck on this for hours. Do not upgrade to this version, you’ll regret it!.Version: 3.2.4

Latest version keeps crashingI used to love this app as it is much easier to use than the desktop. However, my recent use of it has been very frustrating. It constantly crashes and then I have to scroll through all the papers to find the one I was working on. Please fix this as when you have hundreds of papers to mark, this really wastes time..Version: 3.1.7

Crashes ConstantlyIn grading on the Turnitin app, I consistently deal with the app closing for no reason. I decided to log out and log back in to see if it would help. Well, now I cannot even log in. When I open the app, all I get is a white screen. This app is no help at all. It used to be much better. Any “upgrades” have NOT helped or improved the app. These upgrades have created a more significant issue for me as a user. SO FRUSTRATING FOR TEACHERS!!!.Version: 3.1.8

App doesn’t work at allThe app used to be the best part of Turnitin. The drag and drop comments made it so easy to grade on my train commute. But for months the app has not worked at all. It crashes immediately. They say they are working on it, but they obviously aren’t giving it any attention. Very disappointed..Version: 3.2.4

An absolute shockerPlease DO NOT contemplate using this app. After receding voice comments on 124 assessments none of them synced correctly. This means I have slaved Over providing individual comments to students that have been swallowed up by this app. Apparently our blended learning people recommend this now be avoided and to go back to a computer. I wonder what Apple Thinks of this debacle of an App. It should be banned from the App Store!.Version: 2.0.1

Do NOT useI previously reviewed this as a good app and a boon for academics, but over a year later I have changed my mind. The developers have been sitting on their behinds for the last year and not improved the app at all. For instance, bugs that are new or still not fixed: (1) grades do not sync. So if I put in a grade of, say, 55 for an assignment, that will not sync to Turnitin on the web and I get endless error messages, 'grade not synced'. (2) In the assignment, when you want to select/highlight a single word, it selects the entire line and you have to laboriously drag the highlight so it covers just the word you want. What a pain. (3) As soon as I start editing the feedback text box, the window collapses into a small rectangle and I can see virtually none of my text as I edit it! Not good at all, sorry. I recommend 'avoid' for now. Update: just changed my review to one star after discovering: 1) The app doesn't even sync feedback text you enter in the text box via the web! 2) If you give up on the app and try to use the web version, you'll find you can't even type comments anywhere if you're using Safari on iPad! In short: how much more useless could this app be? Turnitin on the web is better, just don't use Safari on your iPad! What a hot mess. And these developers get paid for creating such a mess?.Version: 2.2.0

Ridiculously weakOk, these guys work in the education sector and they haven’t realized that often the best way to mark a paper is with a pen: where is support for the Apple Pencil?!.Version: 3.1.3

Crashing & ImpossibleThe app keeps crashing and it feel almost impossible to grade papers on it. It's not user-friendly anymore..Version: 3.2.4

Seems to lots of bugsI've used the Turnitin app for years. Today, in the middle of grading an assignment, it started an update I didn't authorize. I waited patiently and returned afterward to continue grading. The screen kept "freezing," so I turned my iPad off and on, checked for an Apple update, and eventually tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app because none of the previous things stopped the "freezing." I'd be reading, and suddenly I couldn't scroll or make comments anymore. After reinstalling the app, I was able to make comments again, but I found the rubric completely unusable. It keep adding points on its own so that grades were coming out to be more than 100%. When I would try to correct the mistakes, the whole app would close automatically. I'm so peeved right now, and I guess I'm going to have to finish my grading on the computer..Version: 3.0

Great for iPadI love how easy it is to grade papers on the iPad. Way easier than on the computer. But the latest update made the app crash on opening. I deleted and re-downloaded the app, and now it works--at least for now. My rating is partly for the amazing features of the app, but also for the inconvenience of having an app that crashes..Version: 1.2

Not as reliable as it used to beHaving issues lately. Prone to crashing and freezing. Quite frustrating to use. Used to be a lot better than this. Crashing issue continues. Getting more and more frustrating, especially when you have hundreds of reports to mark. It just crashes three times on one of the submission!.Version: 3.1.8

Upgrade?Since the upgrade turnitin on my iPad now organises in the order of deadline. This isn't helpful as we have concurrent assignments and resubmissions. Assignments were loaded on in order of delivery and in a simplistic format of assignment -resub-assignment- resub. If this is to be changed we should have the option to revert it. Working with 6th form btec students this is going to result in assignments being submitted in all sorts of wrong folders..Version: 2.2.1

Add Apple Pencil!I can’t grade on this app. It is such a disappointment. It takes longer than Tii on my computer, which already is bulky. I was really hoping to make my correcting portable. If I could write on it, it would be worthwhile..Version: 3.2.1

Not impressed so farOK so after eagerly anticipating this app for months now I was pleased to see it's finally been released. However so far I've had no joy in getting access to any of my students papers. I can log in and see they are there but they never load! Surely you can do better than that Turnitin!!.Version: 1.1

OK, but where is the student app?!?!I am a teacher in a 1-to1 iPad high school. Students using iPads cannot submit work to Turnitin from their devices!!! Until such time as students can submit their work from an iPad, it seems to me counterintuitive to be touting the benefits of this app… to say the least. What is the use of a teacher app when my students cannot get their work to me in the first place???? When this is rectified, this app will receive 4 stars. For now 2 is the maximum I can justify given the current iPad situation..Version: 1.3.0

Really badLiteral trash. It’s soooooo hard to use.Version: 3.1.8

Please make an app for students!!Ok so they have an app for teachers for grading, but no app for students to turn in work? Im sorry but this is very upsetting. Yes you can copy and paste into the site from safari but it looks like crap and doesn't keep the formatting. So I would really like to see an app for ipad that students can turn in their work. An app that works with Pages so you can export your work to the turnitin app. I like writing all my papers on my ipad, but hate having to go to my laptop to upload my file to the site..Version: 1.1.1

From hero to huh?I have been using Turnitin on my iPad since the app became available--until this weekend, when it suddenly decided that I could not synchronize unless I was "online." My iPad has a cellular plan but I am asked to "enable cellular," and it will only synchronize when I use wifi. This glitch renders the app almost useless because I want to be able to work where wifi is unavailable. When I was able to synchronize, several submissions became stuck in that mode and were inaccessible. Please make this app useful again..Version: 1.4.0

Crashes constantly.I have been a heavy user of this app for grading for at least four years and I have had a largely positive experience using it on an iPad. In the past month or so, though, it is become extremely unstable and crashes frequently. Reinstalling it seems to have no effect. The only good thing is that it does not seem toLose any comments that I have added up to the moment of the crash..Version: 3.1.7

Won’t openI just updated to what was supposed to be an improvement in stability. The app now refuses to open at all. Not clear how I can go back to the earlier version. Very disappointed and frustrated..Version: 3.2.4

Unstable AppThe app on iPad clashes too frequently. This problem has persisted following an upgrade about a year ago. I was hoping it would be resolved but it appears nothing is being done. Could the developers improve the performance of the app by resolving the crashing problem?.Version: 3.1.7

Full of bugs that render it entirely uselessThe sad thing is that this was a great application in the past, but recent updates have introduced bugs that have ruined it and Turnitin has no intention of fixing them. Any comments typed in the iPad app are full of random strings of characters and numbers when viewed in the online version. Normal punctuation like commas and apostrophes are replaced with “,” and “'” respectively. I wrote to Turnitin support and received a quick reply stating that it was a known issue, which they called an “eye-sore,” but that the fix is “complicated” that they don’t have a plan to address it in the near future. This is not a small inconvenience, it makes the app completely useless..Version: 3.1.3

Don't do itSharing marks and feedback with my students in class, when update recommended. Stupidly accepted without reading reviews or thinking it through. Black screen wipeout. Does not seem to be iOS upgrade related. Installed recent iOS update after TurnitIn failure and still a black screen..Version: 1.2.3

Needs urgent overhaulWas good on iPad. Now terrible. And I’ve ditched it. Comments lost, the tap to select/ magnifier to edit summary comments just selects and is therefore non functional if you need to edit. Why is it so bad now??? I’m seeing reviews from a year ago stating the same problems. Sort yourselves out. My Uni pays for this and I’ve let our IT services know that this app is no longer being properly supported for HE use in the UK.Version: 3.1.8
