Strides: Habit Tracker + Goals for Negative User Reviews

Nice app, butIt’s really a shame you can’t track more than 3 habits without hitting the paywall..Version: 15.12.1

The subscription fee is insane!I’ve already read the creator’s response regarding the reasoning behind the subscription vs. a one-time cost. This app is great - but most people that are working on improving habits would like to work on more than 7. I promoted this app for a while on my productivity social media platform, but kept getting that same feedback from followers, and I do agree with them. If the ability to sync across platforms is causing an expensive subscription, perhaps there could be an option with one-time payment that simply allows users to have more goals? The other “perks” that the subscription includes to try to defend its $30/year price tag are nice, but the majority would agree they aren’t proportionally useful. When you look at other apps in this space - Things 3, for example - that cost significantly less (and do not rehire a subscription) and do significantly more in terms of achieving increased productivity, it makes you wonder what the issue is here. I am always more than happy to pay plenty for an app when the value is there, but it’s just not here in this case..Version: 7.6

Good... except having to payU shouldn’t have to pay $6/mo or $40/yr just so u can have more than 3 or 4 habits..... lame..Version: 10.4

Not easy to useI downloaded the app with the purpose of tracking numerous daily, weekly, monthly and annual objectives for my business. While I understand the steps to achieving goals, what I don’t understand is how to customize them with this app. For example, I want to set a goal for monthly revenue of $500,000. I want to see by the day how close my team is, by entering a figure that I receive from a daily report. I can’t figure out how to do that. Another example, I have a goal for my team to make 10 introduction calls a day. That’s 50 calls per week. I get a report, but want to log those numbers into the app myself daily, and know their progress. I’m sure this can be done. But it’s not that easy to understand how. I downloaded the “Upgrade” for 7 days with the intent to purchase the “Lifetime Subscription” and once I understand it, roll it out to my management team. The tutorials are great motivation. It would have been helpful to have some simple step by step instructions..Version: 15.2.1

Health automation and widgets needs more workI love it's features and it's ability to track different habits and personal goals. However, health automation tracking is very buggy and it often logs things twice. Also, the widgets are notoriously bad as they never update.Version: 15.2.1

Bait and SwitchIgnore the screenshots they’re only possible with heavy monthly fee, which they actively hide and imply isn’t the case in the description. This goes beyond unethical, tell people the restrictions up front so they can decide to not download your garbage bait and switch app. It even hides it from you in the app until you hit the almost immediate paywall. Useless trash..Version: 11.0

Great App! Bad business modelReally liked the app. It does what suppose to do, well designed. Five starts! Two starts down on the business model. Don’t see a reason to pay a subscription service for a tracking app. I don’t mind to pay one time fee for it. Most app developers seem to be entrench with subscription models now but not everything fits that model! Even though seems tempting to move in that direction because of more revenue; which is a downside because a lot of people are opting for not using the apps at all when the subscription doesn’t have merit. You can track 7 habits/goals with the free version, it works well but I need to track more things. I decided to move to the next best app I found (Habitify) because it has a one time fee only even though Strides design and architecture seems better. They both get the job done..Version: 7.5

It’s just not user friendlyI gave this app a good try in the trial and found the entry of habits, good vs bad habits, “better when lower”, and many of the other options unclear and tricky to use. It’s like trying to read a sentence with multiple double negatives. Even after being inputted, I was always unsure if it was tracking correctly, or if it was being logged as good or bad. This company needs to build a team of serious UI designers to translate its capabilities to a simpler user experience. Ultimately, it feels unfinished like an advanced beta. Coupled with the wild subscription prices, I would have to rate this app as just not good overall. At least, not yet..Version: 11.1

Way to expensiveUseless without paying. I don’t need to add another monthly subscription to my list. And the one time price is way too much..Version: 13.3

Nothing justifies the priceThe price is ridiculous and I’m not even going to comment on the app itself because nothing justifies how much they make you pay for the premium version. And you kind of have to get premium to get any use out of this because the free version only allows 3 items..Version: 14.3

Frustrating and costly. Disenfranchised 1 time purchaser.Purchased this app fully awhile back (prior to subscription model). Then one day the app functionality changed and became limited (I believe related to an iOS update). To fix required costly monthly subscription or costly lifetime access. Basically looks like the business model changed. Nope and nope. There are now many other great habit tracking apps at much less cost so I’m trying something else..Version: 15.7.1

Absolutely beautiful, but no API to automate trackingThe data visualizations are beautiful and it would be a lovely place to visualize data from a variety of habits and goals. Sadly, there is no API and no integration with any services like IFTTT or Zapier. As a result, you can only really track a few things before the friction of manual data entry is just too much to be sustainable. If you only want to track a few things and you’re fine with doing that manually, then I think this is probably a great app for you. If you want to seamlessly and automatically track many different things, it’s probably worth finding something else. I found the friction of manual data entry to be too high a price for the visualizations, and moved to something else. In the end, the beautiful visualizations weren’t of any use to me if the friction of the data entry was such that I wasn’t entering any data to visualize….Version: 15.2

Forcing you to payI used to use this app almost everyday and did find it useful. However, now I cannot set more than three goals without being asked to upgrade. The so called perks of what I would get are not worth the price and to be honest I’ll probably just go back to good old ticks on my physical calendar..Version: 11.0

Good app, pro version mispricedGood app, shockingly high price for pro. Found much better and cheaper alternatives in App Store. Nice try strides!.Version: 10.4.1

Rip-offThis app wants you to pay monthly or a one time fee of $120. When did all these app developers get so greedy! Apps used to be under $10 and I’d buy one without thinking twice. No thanks..Version: 10.1

Great options & flexibility but $7/month for 4+ tasks is unreasonable.Great app, probably the one that matches my needs exactly. However $7/month is an excessive subscription amount for simply unlocking 4+ goals. I have no interest in the extra features & would happily pay a dollar a week for this, however in it's current state $84/year or $125/lifetime is not worth it..Version: 9.4

Software crashesI’ve just purchased the app and installing my data, it crashes after every input so far. That’s a little annoying but so far, it’s still early to review the app’s functions..Version: 10.0.1

CoolGreat app so far! Works best on iPhone. Syncing across devices is still a bit buggy..Version: 3.0

EasyEasy and convenient..Version: 8.9

Warning only 2 habits per day allowed on free versionWarning only 2 habits per day allowed on free version.Version: 9.3.3

Free version nearly uselessYou’re only able to set 3 habits with the free version, anything beyond that prompts you to purchase their subscription. It also seems like half the useful features are locked behind the paywall..Version: 12.4

Great Potential - Not What it Could beGuys, this app has fantastic potential but really isn’t delivering. The Calendar function is bugged (won’t open and crashes app in latest IOS version) and the notifications system is also very clunky. Also, the features available on the free version are very underwhelming. It seems you’re relying on people downloading the app thinking that the free version is useful, then they get so far into setting up their goals to realise it’s pretty useless without the subscription so they succumb to the payment as they think they’ve “already done the work” as such… If the product was good (which it has the potential to be), you wouldn’t need to rely on this tactic and you could be more forward and transparent with the cost of the subscription….Version: 15.2.1

A bit basicI tried Strides at the same time as Way of Life. The looks and features of Strides aren’t as appealing as Way of Life. It’s a good idea tracking habits, but I ended up buying the full version of Way of Life..Version: 10.3

This version is buggyNice, simple UI, I like the overall idea, but i've had problems with it crashing out. Happens everytime I try to edit an existing goal on my iPad 2.Version: 2.0

Latest Update has destroyed half of the utility of this appYou latest update notes say that you’ve tried to modernise the app - in actuality you’ve ruined the aesthetics as well as essentially deleting half of my data. For example you no longer appear to be counting day in which a habit hasn’t been logged as a zero! If, for example, you are someone who is tracking total and average mileage for running, this throws off weekly/monthly averages. It also make the data far harder to read in the app; if this is modern (it isn’t) then I want no part in it. I feel as though you’ve stolen my money by changing your service and essentially deleting my data. If these changes aren’t reversed then I will be taking my money to one of your competitors and I will be suggesting to several friends who I brought to this platform to do the same..Version: 11.6

Missing_Key_ FeatureThe app and more specifically, a goal needs a focus timer that is triggered when a reminder is due. The timer should have a pause and also have mini timers within to sub divide study methods within one goal/ study. Say your studying a language. Set the timer for 30min vocab then another 30 for sentence practice and or another for listening or writing. So far the app has a good UI and intuitive thinking behind the build with mini help question marks next to fe@ture on/off toggles. Has a simple clean UI with a themed color and not cluttered with picture icons (that can take away someones focus or motivation) . I would also suggest not asking for a review right after setting a goal. Allow the user to work through the app within a reasonable time. I'd like to increase the star rating after support keeps in touch and implements a focus timer. Thanks.Version: 14.8

Right app. Wrong price.Very nice app. Great functionality and design. Intuitive and robust. Fails on the pro version which is a monthly payment plan. There is no reason for this app to be a monthly plan. And the one time piece is ridiculously high. I understand they want to maximize revenue, but you’re not supplying ongoing value here..Version: 10.4.1

Monthly paymentThe best app available if it’s kind, but what? I’m going to $500 for it over the lifespan of my phone instead of downloading Done for $6.99? You’re out of your mind..Version: 7.8.1

Unfortunate limiting subscription modelProbably one of my favorite productivity, habit-tracking apps I've tried. Moreover, the app is intuitive and I feel like it has been well tested for user experience. It meets many use-cases of habit-tracking and goal forming (progress by percent, by target accumulation, splitting into milestones, etc). However, I don't agree with justification for a subscription model, as posted by the app author. The subscription is supposed to pay for hosting services, but I don't see why I need to pay for hosting? Simply save my data locally or offer connection to cloud service (i.e. dropbox) if users really want to sync. (For example, 1password has a subscription model, but offers a lifetime license for $60). I know plenty of people who would have used this app if it was a simple one-time purchase. In my opinion as a fellow developer, tracker apps are not difficult to build, and it is only a matter of time a more affordable app similar to strides will enter the market - I would love to support this if it made more sense than subscribing so you can "sync". Would be happy to pay a legitimate software license price for it, it is clearly worth more than a $10 app. Thanks though, hope you will take it into consideration..Version: 7.7.1

Only lets you create 3 habitsFor the free version. Wish i knew before i downloaded and set everything up to find out on the fourth one that only 3 are allowed. Im not going to keep several apps to track all my daily habits so deleted it..Version: 16.1

SickGood but not as user friendly as i like.Version: 15.7.1

So many bugs with so much potentialNot sure how this app has 4.8 something stars and so many positive reviews. I’m guessing people gave a review 20 minutes into downloading the app before they experienced the bugs. First I’ll say this is by far the best habit tracker app on the App Store. In terms of concept. I have scorched the entire App Store for a habit tracker, goal achieving app. This one was the closest to what I wanted. The problem are the bugs. The creator of this app had another app called summit. I really wanted that one to work as well. But it had similar bugs. The first bug is, sometimes if you mark no, it won’t mark as no. I would press no, it wouldn’t do anything. And continue to mark it a habit as no. Still wouldn’t do anything. Until I check the history of the habit, and they are all listed there. Yet it never moved. This problem also happens when you have a habit that requires more than once a day. So let’s say you want to drink water 10 times a day, if you press no. It doesn’t do anything. Another problem is the Apple Watch app. It bugs out, if you press yes or no, doesn’t do anything at times. Yet it will track it on the phone..Version: 14.0

Allow more than 3 habits without payingI really enjoyed your layout and the construction of your app. I did quite a lot of research to pick your app out from the multiple other goal apps. I think you are unfortunately going to loose quite a few customers due to making people pay money to have more than 3 habits. Statistics may state you should only focus on a couple habits but you shouldn’t make people feel like they can’t have more than 3 unless they pay. Also, the individuals who are using an app to help organize their habits most likely need an app because they have multiple habits they need to keep track of. I would highly recommend you increasing the amount of habits before people have to pay because consumers are going to get frustrated and go to an app that doesn’t make them pay for more than 3 habits. I will pay for an app after I use it for a couple weeks and have grown to appreciate the app on a day to day basis. You are not allowing a certain group of people try out your app for a couple weeks for free if they have more than 3 habits so they will delete it immediately. At least let people track more habits so they can grow to appreciate your app before they have to pay..Version: 13.3

UnfortunateFor me, the need to go premium happened whilst setting up the app in order to try it. Again, for me, this is too early and there is something about a free trial that doesn’t feel trustworthy. Feels like too much of a commitment (exactly why I need an app like this!). The market for these habit apps is quite crowded due to their simplicity. I would rather go to a different app that doesn’t ask me to go premium straight away. This is because I’m not just trying an app, I’m trying a change in my lifestyle. A change in lifestyle that I don’t know whether it will work or not, so the less commitment the better. (I guess you could also market the premium as ‘people who pay for the app are x times more likely to achieve their goals’, I still wouldn’t have signed up for it in the first 5 minutes of setting up the app though...).Version: 10.4

Good but BuggyI find the app really useful but I’m finding that when I’m ticking stuff at the moment it doesn’t log it, I don’t always get alerts and it says I’m on a 36 day streak for everything which I’m clearly not..Version: 12.1

Can’t track timeCustomers have been asking for the ability to track time (hours and minutes) since January 2015 but, sadly, nothing has been implemented. At the moment, if you set a goal to do 7 hours reading each week, you’d have to enter the goal as 420. Then, if you did 2 hours and 15 minutes one day, it would have to be entered as 135..Version: 8.1

Notification bug and no watch complicationPhone app appears well designed -attractive with good options. But notifications have a bug, they tell me I’ve done 2 out of 2 jobs today even though I haven’t done any (they seem to report yesterday’s stats rather than today’s, maybe this is a time zone issue given I’m in Australia?). Also there is no watch complication. I’ve also trialled another habit tracker that has a complication with a circle showing percentage of jobs completed which I find very helpful (the complication also allows one click access to the watch app). If these two limitations are solved Strides will be superior to the other app but for now the other app is winning..Version: 6.5.3

Great concept high priceThis looked like the perfect app for me to track my goals and habits. Seemed easy to use and looks great. But when I got to the 7th goal it asked me to subscribe to premium for $7.99 per month. I would be happy to pay double that even if it was a one time, and they do offer a one time payment- for $125. All I’d be paying for would be to add three or four more goals, I couldn’t care about the rest. What a bummer.Version: 9.3.5

Disappointed- Apple WatchI really like this app and really would love to use it. I have looked at almost all of the habit apps and love how this incorporates goals and how you can mark some habits as “bad” to reduce the frequency of the habit. My big complaint and disappointment is with the watch app. I want to be able to see my progress on the watch and this app, while it does have an interface in the watch, does not have any complications listed to put on the watch face. It seems so minor, but this is important to me to keep on track with my goals and habits. Sadly I will just have to keep looking in the App Store for something else, but I had really thought I found the app I was looking for with this. Maybe if they decide to add this at some point I would consider using it, but once I find an app I am happy with I don’t know if I would want to change entire apps suddenly..Version: 7.1

Updated app after iOS 14.8 update now it crashesConstant crashing now I am on iOS 14.8. App wouldn’t work so I updated it and the new app crashes. EVERY TIME. Still not working. I go to open the app and the strides screen pops up for a millisecond and then disappears. Frustrating.Version: 12.0

Discouraging reportWeek start on Sunday and can't be changed Performance is reported on a weekly basis instead of day to day, taking into account days that haven't passed yet. Thus result always shows under 100% even when being on track..Version: 7.1

App issues - Strides Duplication - No FixHave been experiencing issues with app. I have reached out for assistance with no response. Hoping this rating will generate a response..Version: 11.7.1

Way too expensive and free is uselessLooks interesting but the free plan is so limited that it’s not worth using and the subscription prices is way too expensive for what you get. Will use another app that does the same thing.Version: 13.3

Decent AppI liked this and the free of charge version got me off to a solid start. I would have subscribed/purchased if the price was lower but it doesn’t represent value to me at the offered price and I found an alternative that was more realistically priced and equally good. Thank you for the leg up, Strides Team and I wish you well..Version: 16.1

Insane price point. There are cheaper alternatives. Stay away..Version: 15.7

Update crashed AppThere is no tech support for this app and since the update I can’t get the app to open at all. It starts to open then immediately closes again. The “help centre” requires you open up the app to get help, an impossibility..Version: 11.4.4

Reduced functionality since the updateI don’t know what happened but you can no longer create as many strides as you want without upgrading to the paid version. Not only that, if you had data from the free version, it’ll probably be full of bugs (mine was duplicated) to force you to update to premium. I liked this app so much but I won’t be using it anymore. What a shame. :/.Version: 10.0

Good app, removed feature without warningThis applies to the free version. I was using the free version because I didn’t need the premium features and I liked the UI more than other apps. It included a few trackers, a calendar that was good for showing streaks, and a percentage of completions, which is exactly what I wanted. I figured I’d upgrade to premium once I was ready and could afford it. Then POOF. Calendar was removed from the free version. Now I get it’s the free version and developers can do what they want. I’m not paying so why complain? Well, all that time tracking my progress is now gone. It would’ve been nice to have a warning. I’ve seen a lot of growth while using the app. I’ve even recommended the app via word of mouth. And now I can’t see my progress. Just kinda sad..Version: 14.6

Not intuitiveThe structure for completing a good habit seems more complicated than it should be. If you missed that day, it’s should log it red, not green still? Maybe slide left for hit goal / swipe right for missed goal? Also, where do you go to delete a habit? I feel like it shouldn’t be so tough to find that I feel the need to write a review about it..Version: 11.7.1

Lost all data??!I’ve had this app on my phone forever and used it very regularly. Recently, I deleted it – not sure if I deleted it from my home screen only or from my library. But anyway, when I open the app back up again all my data has disappeared. I can’t see where to login to retrieve my previous data.. is this possible? Normally, when I delete an app from my phone and then reinstall it all of my previous data is there... so I’m not sure why this isn’t working for strides but it’s disappointing because I’ve been tracking several habits on here for years.Version: 11.1
