Cook'n Recipe Organizer for Negative User Reviews

Cook'nThe app keeps closing within 1-3 minutes an once it's closes won't open for more than a second.Version: 2.9

Works great but now will need subscriptionThis is a good companion to the desktop app but a recent email from DVO stated that as of 5/2016 you will need a $14.95 monthly subscription to be able to use their cloud syncing service. Plus some components of the desktop app, which cost $79.95 have been crippled unless you subscribe. Too bad, I would avoid. Also there is nothing at the App Store indicating the hidden cost. Should be listed as In App purchase..Version: 6.2.0

Crashes constantly.I downloaded this app because I wanted to test it out before paying $80 for the mac program to go with it. Unfortunately it was too good to be true and the app closes every few seconds. Could have been great..Version: 2.9

GlitchyDisappointed by the frequency of crashing. I have paid for full software but can barely use it as it crashes almost immediately on iPhone, iPad and PC..Version: 2.9

CrooksNeed to send money if your data gets lost unless using pic version. Just not honest.Version: 8.3.0

Disappointed long term customerUpdate: support helped me figure out how to access my recipes that they still had in my account (by signing up for the monthly subscription, synced, then cancelled my subscription. This was their idea, not mine.). I changed my review to a 3⭐️ since I have my data back. I still think it's a cool app, especially for busy moms who cook a lot, but I can't justify the monthly cost for it at this stage of my life. Original post edited: I've been a Cook'n customer for years. Paid for the desk top version then later paid for an upgrade (2011). When mobile came out they synced my recipes and I've been happily using the mobile version for years. Got a new phone and the app wouldn't synchronize to my account. Contacted support and they can't find my email or account in their system. Pulled up app on my old phone, confirmed my email address was there and magically, support found me. BUT! They won't allow me to synchronize my recipes unless I subscribe. $5-$10/mo to store my recipes??!!.Version: 10.8.0

Really bad ideaLoaded the app, could not get any of my recipes over to the Ipad, although I have a cook'n cloud account, unless you buy a membership you can use the app or the software... Stay away from this software there are other that are more user and less money hunger.....Version: 8.5.0

Lengthy delays for customer serviceI was an original buyer of Cook'n many years ago. I have used it to save/update my recipes. In late 2020 when Apple made the big sur upgrade, the app continued to work but with one huge issue - it no longer displays all the hundreds of recipes I stored. I contacted tech support asking for a way to recover my recipes. Their reply was to upgrade to their cloud based subscription service version. I asked if that would not destroy my local database, and got no reply. I sent more emails, with no responses for close to 2 months. After filing several negative reviews the owner (Dan) contacted me. He said that they only had my original message and none of the responses, although all went to the same address. He said the new installation would work with my local files. I was able to get my recipes back. I should not have to file negative reviews to get a customer service reply. I like the app..Version: 22.4

Doesn't workI imported two recipes and created two chapters and it crashed and won't open at all..Version: 2.9

Best AppI now have an organized place for my favourite dishes I’ve been using for a few years now. Absolutely love it. With the new update the other day I can’t access the app any more. 😢. My iPad is around 8 years old. But everything else is still working just fine.Version: 26.2

Free is now less than uselessI have used this app for a long time. Years, in fact. I spent the money on the subscription for a year, and as far as I could tell - getting to upload more than 5 recipes per day (at the time) was the only real benefit to me. So, I dropped the subscription. I have told a number of friends and relatives about this app, because it seems to work just like I want it to. But, for some reason, when my friends and relatives sign up for an account now, they get video ads when searching for new recipes that last long enough that it is faster to not use that “discover” part of the app. They also cannot share their cookbooks with me even though I can share mine with them for some reason. The developer was onto something really good, but it seems he is more interested in responding with snide and petty comments to reviews over spending time developing a really good product with a useful subscription price point. It’s a shame. So much potential. I suppose if one doesn’t mind watching video commercials every time you are looking for a new recipe, and you never want to share your cookbook access with anyone else - including your spouse in your own home - this app could still be useful..Version: 33.0.2

Don't buyThe apps do not work. My ipad will not sync and when recipes downloaded from cloud missing all of the units eg 1 water, 2 flour. It will download one time and then Never sync again it just freezes. I bought a notebook downloaded the regular version to it as it runs Windows 8 downloaded the first time from the cloud and all recipes are missing units like the iPad app. I went back to the desktop which is where the original is and the recipes are correct in it. Don't waste your time it is too frustrating although I will say it works well on the desktop. But I would like to use my iPad in the kitchen not my desktop. Don’t buy this is a bait and switch after paying approximately $79 for it they required you to have a subscription they kept all my recipes in the cloud wouldn’t let me have access to them unless you paid, my review stands as it is your product is a bait and switch. I would give it a negative one if I could..Version: 16.3

Doesn't workWon't let you log in on iPhone 6 latest iOS.Version: 2.9

So much potentialI would love to give this app a great recommendation as it has everything I would like in a recipe app. But it crashes so much just on opening let alone when trying to enter a recipe or sync. Lots of problems with the app which means I really don't want to fork out $80 for the computer software. Sorry - needs some work..Version: 2.9

Sync doesn't workOnly purchased the Mac version because of its ability to sync with iPad. It doesn't... App constantly crashes and sync makes this completely unusable. I'm reverting to Living Cookbook which is much more polished and actually works..Version: 2.9

My experienceOver the website you will find places where it will tell you that you can sign up for a cloud account for free … it is for free but if you want to sync your recipes to multiple devices and to the cloud (so that if you ever have to change phones or a different device) then you have to pay a membership fee ($5-$15 depending on what you choose). I got a new phone and lost access to my recipes. I had to buy a basic membership for a month so that I could get them back … this was fine. It was hard for me to get answers about how to get them back until I wrote a review that was honest but not exactly nice (I am rewriting that now-thank you for your help!). Once they responded to me I was able to get help but normally you have to pay a higher priced membership fee for technology help (I understand but just wanted to know if there was a way to get my recipes back before I paid money). A way to call and explain your situation might help? The bad thing was that only some of my recipes came back! I have no clue how that is possible because apparently I should have access to my recipes all of the time but I have done everything to get them back. I at least have a starting point so I am working to retype up my recipes. I suggest doing a backup on your computer as a file as well as a cloud backup. :).Version: 26.5

Crap AppDon't waste your time downloading this. It just doesn't work. Will not sync with the cloud account. I've spent a long time trying to get this working and have now given up. Not sure why it was released before they got all the bugs figured out. Uninstalling immediately..Version: 2.9

Does not work properlyWhen trying to log on to my iPad it tells me a sync is in progress. Won't let me do anything. I tried different things on my laptop and then iPad and nothing helps. Lots of bugs to work out. Also keeps shutting down on me.Version: 2.9

ScamI generally turn off auto renewal on every subscription so that I can make an intentional decision to renew. In the year that I had Cook’n I really liked it so I moved all of my family recipes to the app. About 6 weeks before my Cook’n subscription was to expire the app suddenly wouldn’t synch with the cloud and I couldn’t access my recipes. I contacted technical support who after a time emailed a potential solution. That didn’t work. A week or so later they offered another solution and when I tried to implement it, I could no longer even log in to the app. I notified technical support and they didn’t respond. A week later I emailed again. No response. I emailed yet again adding that all of my family recipes were in the cloud and I was very worried I would lose them. No response. My subscription expired preventing me access to further technical support, so I had to pay $99 for another year. Low and behold as soon as I paid I could log in and access all of my recipes. Coincidence? Absolutely not..Version: 26.1

Keeps crashingLast update keeps causing the app to crash. Can't even get as far as opening the app before it crashes..Version: 5.1.0

Really disappointing...With the good reviews and all the hype of the videos on “capabilities “ that seemed too good to be true, they are. I scanned a recipe from a very old cookbook we had here and it did okay at getting the information into a workable form. It did take some work, but it was pretty unconventional formatting so I understood. When “capturing” any website recipient, and this includes anything I tried “pinning” on Pinterest, it didn’t capture it at all. It simply would load the website up. When I would try to “edit” the recipient, it didn’t have most of the information filled in. It didn’t even “see” the ingredients....a little important for a recipe. This was a tool I so wanted to work and would have gladly paid for the subscription, but like so many, it’s too good to be true. Sadly my family will continue to look for solutions for preserving over a hundred years of recipes..Version: 19.3

Pinterest won’t workI am getting a little frustrated because it won’t work to link up my Pinterest to the app...every time I try it does not give me enough time to sign into my Pinterest it just keeps redirecting me to the app....it is getting soo annoying.Version: 23.3

Seriously disparaging...I loved using this app, but I now need a cloud account. I hate cloud accounts. I don't want a cloud account. I paid for 10 copies of this app for my family and now I can't use this mobile app because I need a stupid "I own your soul" cloud account. Leave me alone! I'll decide if I want a cloud account. If I can't use this app without a cloud account, I want my money back! You get one undeserved star because I can't leave this review with anything less..Version: 8.8.0
