✓ Horrible experience.Videos start against your will, no option to disable them, even if you try to mute or pause the advertisements they still play at full blast sound. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even open the app anymore because I know I can’t even read the story I’m interested in without being force fed a bunch of a obnoxious video advertisements..Version: 8.8.3
✓ Terrible appThey discontinued text alerts for school closings & forced the app. Not clear where these are in the app & no search function to find it. Set up weather only notifications & getting every alert north of 70. Lists 5 default locations and can’t remove them, only add to. The 7 weather app is the same. Deleting this garbage. Will figure out another way to get my kids school info..Version: 8.6.5
✓ Same stories all the timeThe app has the same stories all the time. They might update a few of the but very seldom. I went to check to see who won last nights game and there was nothing about it on the app not even that there was a Bengals game. Although it did have a story about a local high school game that was canceled over a month ago. Along with an old Story about college football. Need to keep the stories updated..Version: 8.1.0
✓ ProblemsIt starts over to many times. And doesn’t remove the old articles fast enough. The web site is just as bad as the app. Very confusing to us. Some of the other Dayton news apps are better. Thought you were number one in news. I sure don’t think so. You have been getting worse over the years. I am 60 and used to love channel 7. Not anymore..Version: 8.8.3
✓ Really AnnoyingSo, the only reason I got this app was to see if my school had a delay or was closed. I changed all the settings so only closings and delays were to be a notification, but I get most, if not all, of the notifications. I also have a problem with when I check the closings and delays it shows my school as a delay or closing, but I don’t get a text notification about it for about 2 hours later. For example, today my school is closed, I only knew this because my dad texted me, not because the app did. I got that text 2 hours later, so if my dad didn’t text me, I would be standing, waiting for the bus for a while. Please fix this..Version: 5.6
✓ Fixes just change what is broken!The programmers did a fix sometime back that required a somewhat long press to open a category. Too long, and the press did not work. Too short, and the press did not work. It took some time, but it was possible to learn how long to press. OK, so they fixed that one, but you could not go back to the story list. The back feature took you back to the category list, and you had to scroll through the stories to find where you were to select the next story you wanted to read. OK, this fix restores the capability to go back to the story list, which is now blank, until you attempt to scroll that list, at which time, you are taken back to the top of the list, once again having to scroll through the stories to find where you were. This fix is no fix. Through the myriad of these errors (and others) I have not commented. However, this parade of bugs tells me that the authors are not bothering to test their software before foisting it on us. (Note: This comment is from someone who used to write software for a living.).Version: 7.0.2
✓ New update is still flawedWith the Jan 2020 update the developers forget to put the back button in. So when you read a story you have to hit the home button. Now you have redone the app and put in the back button but it is no different than hitting the home button. Still have to scroll all the way back down to where you left off. Waste of time. ✓ Battery DrainerVersion 7.1.0 has changed to really drain battery power. Although I have set the app options to never use Location Services, never permit Siri searches, and not to run in the Background, if I've used the app then let the phone sit unused at all over the hour, battery power will drop 3 to 4 percent. Battery Health reports the usage is due entirely to this app running in the background - even though I have background running turned off for it. I have no idea if this is a mistake or they're running ads behind the scenes, but an app that does this isn't an app I'll keep using..Version: 7.1.0
✓ Crashes far too frequentlyThis app is pretty terrible to be honest(except in the seldom instances that it does want to work properly), if I wanna check the app for local news? Crash. If I just get a notification for a news story and wanna check it immediately? Crash. Ceased reading up on news for a quick second to multitask another app but plan to return? Crash. Crash. I’m crashing! I’m crashing! Good lord they really need to adjust the amount of bugs in this app. Due to these minor mishaps that can easily be fixed it causes the app as a whole to be virtually unusable. I’m better off just watching my local news on television than trying to make sense of this apps complete incompetence..Version: 5.8.0
✓ What happened to the back button?This most recent update was supposed to make it easier to navigate, but they removed the back button from the articles. Now, you either have to swipe through articles you are not interested in, or hit home, which takes you back to the beginning of the list. Bring back the back button in the article!.Version: 7.0.0
✓ Frustrating!Two big issues. First, you cannot share an article with a friend or family member via any posting source. When I see something of importance, most sites allow for the sharing of the information. Second, several articles are grossly out of date. Some sports info can be a couple weeks old. I have complained about this a few times, apparently falls on deaf ears. Wish there was a “no star” option..Version: 8.4.01
✓ Where’s the Professionalism?As I’ve written before, I grew up with WHIO….Don Wayne, Ed Krehling, Gil Whitney and his “Wooly-Worms”. It has always been my “go to” for news and information…..it has always been-as stated…”The Leader”. So what’s with the app? It’s never been explained. News topics that stay on the app for weeks, and absolutely NO PROOFREADING ever takes place. Spelling errors, along with poor grammar and punctuation are found in almost every story. I know it sounds picky, but I expect much more from this news outlet. I know you can do better!.Version: 8.7.2
✓ Horrible app1st - many videos do not load and a majority of the videos are of first responder vehicles sitting at a scene. If you don’t have anything to show just write about it no need to put a useless video up. 2- Dayton Has more to offer than just crime and tragedy which is the majority of the coverage. 3- same news stories run for days with no updates. 4- sports coverage is awful. 5-Editors should be embarrassed with spelling and grammer..Version: 8.5
✓ Annoying Notifications and Videos Never WorkWhoever is the team is that gets to determine what news is worthy of notifications need to re-evaluate what news is. Also videos never load. They want to monetize the videos with their own ads but they never load, I haven’t been able to play a whole video from the app in over a year. It so poorly designed and filled with click bait ads that lead to fake news stories..Version: 5.8.0
✓ Inadequate and outdatedThe WHIO app is awful. The news is old and no one seems to know how to proofread! The lack of coverage on sports has been nonexistent. There should be an easy and in your face way to access WHIO of news in real time and it is difficult to find. It seems to be easier to upload storm/weather photos than it is to report accidents etc..Version: 8.7.6
✓ Poorly designed, doesn’t function when it’s actually neededMy area has been through several big storms in the last couple months. And the only consistent thing about them is that the app will spam ads at you when trying to get the forecast during an emergency and oftentimes the app will crash in general. The fact that the sponsors for this app thought it would be a good idea to continue ads during an emergency and not provide fixes to app crashing updates is just sad. To those responsible for this app (if read) you need to address this. I know now that this app cannot provide time sensitive information when making decisions in a potentially deadly situation, but others may not..Version: 8.3.4
✓ This app is garbageIt is pretty frustrating to get a notification of a news story, click on it, ant the only thing that happens is: The app just opens and shows a list of top stories ( none of which are the story of the notification that brought you there ). The app opens with the list of stories and you can hear an unrelated video ad playing followed by an unrelated video on a story that has nothing to do with the notification that brought you there. If you click around on the app trying to find the video that you hear, good luck. If you want to try to find the story that generated the notification that brought you to the app, it is nowhere to be found. The app is so awful that I caught myself laughing out loud a couple of times. Frankly I’m embarrassed for the folks over at WHIO. I’m just going to uninstall it and check back in a year or so. ✓ It’s just okayI think the app is just okay. It seems there are always frequent misspellings, shouldn’t spellcheck should correct this? ✓ Too many adds!See lots of advertisements on the 7 news for this app and thought I would give it a try. Waaay too many adds. Cannot click on anything without getting a 15 second video add. Already removed the app. Sad they have to monetize so heavily. Otherwise the app wouldn’t be too bad. Having adds in an app is a fine balance and this went too far..Version: 6.2.2
✓ Why even have this app?A lot of the most important information is routed OUT of the application forcing me to use safari to listen to WHIO Radio, telling me to listen for a specific element which has ALREADY BEEN DISCUSSED and have to scroll to find. I didn't click to listen to the radio! Half of what’s written into the application to summarize the reports contains misspelled words, poor grammar and the like. How hard is it to proofread before pressing submit? Above all, the app will give you an option to watch a video for some of the stories, but not before listening to an advertisement that you can’t mute or skip..Version: 5.9.2
✓ Back buttonWith the recent update, the back arrow disappeared. This arrow allowed a quick return to the main stories at the place you left off, after you were done reading the details. Now the only way to get back to the stories is by using the home option. This takes me back to the beginning each time and I have to scroll back to where I was each time. ✓ Why??Stop sending out notifications for stories that can’t be found browsing the app. I’ll get a notification for a story that I’m actually interested in reading so I’ll tap it. The app may or may not crash. If so, it would be nice if I could find the story within the app by browsing. ✓ App opens a new screen when trying to look at itThe app has now been opening a screen like it is going to show a video. I then have to try and close it as it is just black. Then when I finally see it back in the app and I start to scroll it does it again. ✓ Why The Change?The new format is disconcerting for this long time viewer. The current temperature not being displayed at the bottom of the screen is missed. Where is the traffic report every ten minutes, and what happened to the serious news reports? Dontae’s uplifting humor and the quizzes at 6:00 AM and PM? Answers, please. ✓ App keeps crashing and freezingThis was my go to app to read my local news. For the last several weeks I am rarely able to just open the app and select a story. Either the app crashes and closes down or it simply won’t open the story. This is so disappointing. Please fix whatever issues are causing this..Version: 8.3.4
✓ Problems--again! UpdateNow the app tells me that it can't start, and to check my network connection. Network connection is just fine. Deleted and redownloaded the app. Still the same error message. Clicking on App Support just brings me to the dreaded 404 page not found error. Update:. After I posted this I waited until I saw that a new version was available and tried it. It worked for a few weeks, but when the next update came, I got the same error all over again. Including the ,404 error when I click pin App Support in the as possible store. That is it for me. ✓ Needs improvementIt crashes which is irritating but it also just randomly stops sending push notifications which can be a safety issue if you are counting on this app for important news. For example. Tonight we suddenly have a water boil advisory and the app didn’t send the push notification for that breaking news to my phone. Very irresponsible on their part..Version: 6.2.2

✓ Landscape view?You update one thing and break another. The latest app update somehow got rid of landscape view option when watching a news story or even a live news conferences that are held. For instance, our governor held a news conference about the train derailment in East Palestine and I attempted to watch on the Whio app however since I wasn’t able to get landscape mode to work I went to WDTN and watched. Until this is fixed I’ll watch my news elsewhere..Version: 8.7.3
