Evernote Scannable for Negative User Reviews

Good scanning, but bad updateThe recent update makes this app annoying to use. Every time I use it (which is frequently) I find the app has logged me out. It also has to show me the cutesy graphics telling me how to use the app EVERY SINGLE TIME and I can’t skip it until the fourth graphic. It no longer saves my default notebook selection and has changed back to the Business Cards notebook as default every time. Seriously, this is just basic usability stuff. Not convinced that any software company in existence actually tests anything before release anymore..Version: 2.4

Bad updatesThe interface to save images has gotten worse and they make you login each time to scan an image. They use the login to force signing up for paid services. Often the OCR doesn’t pickup the full image even when it’s against a background contrasting it and the lighting is good. Terrible update and the app keeps getting worse..Version: 2.8

Subscription price is ridiculous.Scannable has lived on my Home Screen since 2015. The same functionality exists in several other apps (including natively in iOS Notes!), however Scannable was just that perfect mix of convenience and usability, when I needed it once or twice per month. Today I opened it to scan and print a document, to find that all sharing functionality is now locked behind a paywall for $4.99 … per WEEK. I get that the idea is to drive users to Evernote, but Evernote already burned me several years ago, which lead me to move to a competing product. The new management of Evernote has learned nothing from the old. In the words of the great poet DJ Khaled: “Congratulations. You played yourself.”.Version: 2.8

Camera keeps freezingAfter the last major update, I have had problems with the camera constantly freezing. I even replaced my ipad in case the problem was with the device, but it turns out no, it is the app. When it works well, and before this glitch, it is actually an excellent app that I would highly recommend, but right now for me (and I assume some others) it is extremely difficult and slow to use. And, It crashes if you try to save it with a named file :-( such a shame..Version: 2.5

App Intentionally Ruins Handwritten Documents.I’ve spent the past week and a half trying and failing to get this horrid excuse of a scanner to work. This app has, since the beginning, intentionally blurred, skewed and blanked out major sections of hand written documents I’ve attempted to scan. There is no amount of light, bright or dark, that can prevent this app from effectively deleting half of the document, and what little is left afterwards is blurred beyond all recognition. I know for a FACT that the app intentionally tampers with your scans because I have pinned my phone to a desk and just watched it try to focus on an unmoving, well lit document laying on a chair directly below it and for five minutes it never once managed to settle into a decent focus on the page or stopped shaking the camera. This app deliberately creates random visual noise to deliberately prevent you from taking even remotely comprehensible scans. Absolutely stay away from this app unless you want to pay the developers their extortionate fees for the “premium” service to the get basic functionality out of the app that should be expected. And they have the gall to put this app under “productivity”, it fits better under “inexcusable waste of time and money”..Version: 2.4

App updates delete your scansLast two updates deleted all of my on device scans. No option to export, not sent to recently deleted so we can recover them, just gone forever. So furious. I’ve tolerated their second rate UI, which requires ridiculously unnecessary number of taps to do actions that should be quick and easy (why tap a photo to edit it when its already the selected photo?, because of inertia of changing apps, but deleting my scans during app update (twice!) is the final straw. And forget about trying to get support since Evernote has gobbled up the app. Don't waste your time with this app..Version: 2.3.3

Buggy and Unreliable, even w/UpdatesI’ve had this for years. The interface has always been buggy with missing icons. Luckily, I know where to tap from past use. Every handful of uses it makes you click through all the “intro” pages which is annoying. The preview of your scans are missing occasionally - another bug that has not been addressed despite numerous updates over the years. I once had a few important scans in the app I hadn’t transferred to my computer yet (as is my normal workflow). When I went to transfer them, the app crashed and I lost all my scans. That was maybe a year ago. I just had the missing preview issue so I quit the app to restart it and hope it’s reappear and I just got the missing scans problem again. I have looked for competitive products in the past, but stuck with this because nothing else seemed compelling enough. After this latest issue, I am done. I will be deleting this for good and trying out another app..Version: 2.5

I think it’s a great app but having problems.I really find your app useful and used Evernote for years. I run into problems we’re I accidentally clicked on the draw page, but no back button to come out of it which results in having close trh app and restart it. Also when scanned a document that sent it to email as pdf and filled in the email addresses, and a comment, that the send button is invisible, but worked out we’re it was and able sends the email. I don’t know it’s a glitch with my iPad or the app as have the lastest OS on it which could try and reinstall it?.Version: 2.4

Scan is good but post scan is confusing and weird.Scan quality is good. Big issue is that when we have to forward or send the document it takes default previous document name. Who designs such a way! Second if I have to access the recent document there could be simple way to do so from camera scan screen but only thing one can do is to select and delete option. Really? No way to access through app? Evernote is the parent company and they are living with such flawed features. I mean when sending someone any scanned doc. It default select all the history document and default previous doc name. Really pls fix it otherwise I would go for scanbot app. I know that won’t bother you guys to lose one user and apple wouldn’t show my review to the world. But I wish this app could have better posts an design features and weird default all select and name from previous document. Rather put name like scan001 and so on. At least when we forget it won’t go with some weird previous doc name in emails etc. or give a prompt to change the name with highlight. Definitely remove all the default select. You know why because in case I sent default all selected scan in email and reach to someone then can be security issue. I would neither anyone would prefer that!.Version: 2.3.3

Bait and switchWas free to use for the longest time. Now they decided to limit to one scan a day unless you sign up of their subscription service. 12$ per month just to scan documents? Really?? No thank you!.Version: 2.8

It Requires Full Photos Library AccessIt was a great app. The generated results looked arguably better than other competitors products, and it was easy to save the doc to the camera roll. Recently I find this app requires full photo library access in order to save the doc to the camera roll. The limited access is not enough, even though the limited access grants add permission for the app. This is sneaky. Why does it need full library access only to save the scanned result? A reputable company shouldn't behave like this, especially it holds commercial as well as personal data. Trust is easy to break and hard to build..Version: 2.8

Free version no longer workingI used to like the app … but now appears I need a paid version even to save a scan to my phone. Will be looking for alternatives..Version: 2.8

Works perfectly…sometimesThis is great idea. I keep my records digital. And my phone is my office. So in theory this is the perfect app to have since I can convert live documents simply using my iphone camera. But oddly it doesn’t work very well. Sometimes. For example, many times the picture isn’t quite right so I retake the picture. But I can’t delete the old picture. (It should be quite simple as the App is set up to do this. There are in fact two ways to delete. But neither work. Sometimes.) This means I generate a PDF with an extra junk page(s). Very unprofessional. Very frustrating. I will have to start looking for a different app… PS It would be helpful If I could load prior pictures into this app to create a PDF. BUT I CANT..Version: 2.4

Used to be goodUsed to be good. Not anymore. Just use iOS notepad to scan instead of this.Version: 2.8

A permissions nightmareThis app no longer lets you save scans to your Camera Roll unless you give it access to your entire photo library. A huge disappointment..Version: 2.4

Used to be greatIt used to be a great, simple scanning app. Now they want you to pay or sign in. Whenever I try to sign in I’m stuck in a never ending loop of being forced to reset my password. Move on to another scanner..Version: 2.8

Since the last update, app doesn’t workAfter updating to the latest version, the app gets stuck on an intro page. The camera opens up, but nothing works..Version: 2.8

Please stop asking me to sign in every 2nd time I open the appPlease fix your authentication issues. Please. Modularise whatever you have in Evernote and use it here. Please. It’s a quality doc scanner - no question there. Having to sign in and click through the onboarding screens once to twice a week, just to sync with Evernote, is frustrating beyond comprehension.Version: 2.4

Love itSo easy - especially when linked to Evernote..Version: 2.2

Horrendous autofocusMost of the time doesnt focus on the document and shoots a picture fully blurred.Version: 2.5

Used to be the best app out there by farI’ve been a scannable user since the week they launched on the app store. It used to be by far the best scanning app on the market. It is still the best I’ve found as far as function while scanning. However, they now have some kind of crazy bug that causes me to have to set it up from scratch every time I use it. If I use it 3 times in the same day, every time I have to go through the setup sequence, log into evernote, set my preferences, etc.. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling but it still does the same thing. If they can fix this, it will once again be the best scanning app out there but if it’s not fixed soon, I’ll be moving to one of the other apps to do all my scanning..Version: 2.4

Decent scanner, but glaring usability issuesDecent scanner, especially since it’s free. Obviously the machine figuring out what’s the background is not flawless, but I accept that’s inevitable. There’s a bug where you can’t delete pages from a file by clicking X, only by clicking Reorder first. And sometimes it doesn’t let you crop - particularly when the cropping box is rotated but the original photo isn’t. And rotating is ridiculously slow, even though it gets the direction wrong all the time. And it resets my connection with my Evernote account? Every once in a while, it shows me all the introductory windows as if it’s my first time using the app. Baffling.Version: 2.5

UpsetI have used this scanner for years. WAS very happy with it, until today. I am a casual user, not a business. I used to tell anyone who was looking for a reliable scanner to use this one. Now you want me to pay to use it. This is not going to happen. I will search for a new scanner and until then I'll go back to the old ways.....make a jpg and save what few documents I wish to save..Version: 2.8

TerribleAfter many years of using scanable to email diocuments to myself, i was funnelled/forced to create an evernote account to now do this simple task and pay s yearly fee. App deleted! Terrible policy folks, terrible..Version: 2.8

Very basicEverytime you open the app it tries to automatically capture a document and there is no option to make manual capture the default setting, you have to choose manual capture every single time and hope it hasn't tried to take random photos in the meantime. Also, no option to use the 2x lens on iPhone 7, which is great in other scanning apps because you can hold the phone higher above the document which helps to keep shadows from your hand out of the photo..Version: 2.2

Odd glitch with the cropThe crop system should supposedly zoom in to help you guide where the document border is, however, it currently zooms in at a completely random place of the photo and it renders the cropping feature unusable. The image processing is great and the ease of use was perfect until the crop glitch, now I might start using other app, mainly for the aforementioned glitch..Version: 2.5

Please help me!I've been using scannable for a while and was pretty happy with it until now! I checked my scannable and saw that i have no scan, more! All of them aren't in my phone now! ALL of my previous scans are gone. just disappeared completely. i am freaking out. please please please tell me that they are still somewhere! Please someone help me! That scans was so important to me!.Version: 2.3.3

Really good, one irritation to fix...Nice and simple, does what it is supposed to at a reasonable speed. Very good for a free add on to Evernote. But PLEASE stop resetting my settings every time there is an upgrade!!! Having to re-enter them each time is a pointless waste of my time, and highly irritating!!!.Version: 2.4

It WAS one of the bestI’ve been using it for forever and it’s been great. Also it’s been years since Evernote ditched it. Last night I saw an update coming in and honestly I was glad to see some support from Evernote. But well, the Scannable app doesn’t even start after the update and just crashes. I’m moving on to the next best with a lot more features, the PDF Expert. It scans nicely and well supported, and you can send scanned PDF files to various storage services..Version: 2.7

Excellent app that has stopped working on my iPhoneScannable is the quickest, easiest way to transfer paper documents into OCR. I use it every day. However, the most recent version has acted squirrelly on my iPhone. After I send a document to Evernote, it tells me the documents have not been saved and asks me if I really want to delete them. But I just saved them to Evernote, so what is it talking about? This is a new step that I don’t understand. Also, it now sometimes gets hung up. After I click save I go to a screen that asks me to select Camera Roll or Evernote. I tap on Evernote but nothing happens. I’m stuck. So I have to quit the app, start it up again, go back to the same screen, and then it usually completes the process..Version: 2.3.1

ReCeNtSWhat do you get when you combine an unstable scanning app, 100 pages of source material, and a deceptive “recents” tab that doesn’t do it’s only job? A recipe for disaster. Due to my limited access to a local university’s library, I chose to use scannable to secure the source information I would need for a paper I would be writing in the future. Little did I know, scannable offers anything but security. When I returned to the app 20-21 days after scanning the necessary pages, I found that all of my scans had been deleted. Mind you, not one time had I received a warning that these all-important scans would be deleted. Only once they were deleted and I began to dive into the deeper mechanics of the app did I realize that the app contains a “recents” tab. I thought, “Great, they’ll surely be in there. There’s no way this app just deleted my scans out of the blue!” I was wrong. The “recents” window claims to save recent scans for 30 days before deleting them. Unexplainably, though, my scans were nowhere to be found after only 20. This horribly unintuitive and deceptive design has now caused me to scramble to find the information I so desperately need, and I may have to spend over a hundred dollars to buy the books I found at the library. Do NOT use this app..Version: 2.3.3

The new version crashed on IOS 17.3The apps crashed right away on startup of the program.Version: 2.7

What has happened? This used to scan wonderfully, now it just not seem to work properly, can’t find edges, does not straighten or make creases disappear and seems to want to be colour instead of black & white and also keeps asking me to login to Evernote. It does look like there has been an update in a year. The only thing that has happened is that I’ve upgraded from iPhone 7 to latest version. Does app need an upgrade? At the moment I’m going to look for another app as I can’t use this..Version: 2.4

Need to sign in every update and overlay issueCan someone fix this bug where I have to sign in every time after an update? The evernote app always stays signed in after update but Scannable always logs me out. Also there is an issue on the preview bubble while cropping the scan. Half the bubble is obscured by the frame. The app is great and I had given it 5 stars in the past. It’s just this little bug that I’m trying to highlight with my 1 star rating. Thanks team for a great app!.Version: 2.5

Forcing loginUsed to be good but they are forcing login now..Version: 2.8

Now have to payUsed this app fro years at no charge, now you have to pay for it. Deleted.Version: 2.8

DeletedPaying for 2-3 scans a year? NO. Sayonara..Version: 2.8

Was good. But paywalled nowUsed to be a really quick handy way of scanning and emailing files. Now it just prompts me to sign up for a trial or subscription if I attempt to email my scanned files. There’s plenty of other scanning apps out there that don’t require this so I’ve moved on.Version: 2.8

Re purchase the app?I bought this app a while ago and now is asking me to pay again and is not allowing me to share scanned documents.Version: 2.8

Longtime user -now very frustratedI had been using this app for a few years and loved its functionality and features. It was very easy to use and many options to either save file to Evernote or your own photo library or share. It hasn’t been updated for over a year and now has a number of bugs not allowing to save or share at all. I am iOS user and it hasn’t worked for over a year. If you are not updating your app take it off the platform and advise users..Version: 2.4

Was 5 stars but now annoying startup screensI use this app daily and have done for years but since last update it makes me go through the introduction screens every time I open the app (the user guide thing that apps sometimes have on first use) - this is so annoying and time consuming: can this please be removed??.Version: 2.4

Good app, but resets sometimes. Would like default option.I use this app often, it's the scanning app I prefer. I do have two issues. One is that regularly the app resets, and acts as if I've never used it. I'll need to scan something quickly, and it'll go through the whole animated icon, this is how this works routine. I know how it works, I've been using it for awhile. I don't need the tutorial. I don't know if this is related to updates, but the app data should say "this user had the app installed already, no need for the introduction every time an update is done." Also, I'd like to see a default option to save to camera roll. I don't use Evernote. Every time I have to choose whether I want the scan in my camera roll, or in Evernote. I *always* save to my camera roll. I'd like this to be a saved preference..Version: 2.4

Bad UpdatesPLEASE stop changing the default scan type to auto every time the app is updated. I use pdf all the time for receipts and when you do an update it changes so I have to go into settings and change auto back to pdf. It wouldn’t be so bad, but you update the app a lot so it’s really annoying. Otherwise it’s a good app. Would also be better if I didn’t have to press so many buttons to save to Dropbox. Not everyone wants to use Evernote so please make Dropbox compatibility simple. Thanks.Version: 2.4

Need Pro for uploading?Hi I am a student at school, and I use this app daily for uploading my homework and assignments. I have been using this app for much over a year now, and never have I encountered any issues such as this. What I am here to complain about is the fact that you need to now pay to upload your content. This is the only app I use, and I don't know any other app that uploads as a pdf. Please change it..Version: 2.8

Low qualityEverNote seems to specialise in low quality software, this is just another example. The application regularly crashes or gets stuck in a loop trying to save a document. The settings get reset to the defaults every so often, seemingly at random. Sometimes multiple copies of a scan are saved (usually if it has failed multiple times first). I have the latest version of iOS installed and am a premium EverNote member. Probably not after my subscription comes up for renewal later this year though..Version: 2.2

App mostly great but cannot delete pagesFor the past year, the app won’t delete pages when I hit the delete icon. It’s annoying when you have a scanned a whole document and need to start again because there is one page you cannot remove.Version: 2.6

Can’t save or send scanned imagesSince a recent update I cannot save or send scans. I get asked if it’s okay for scannable to access the photos app. But whatever I click the app just circles and never saves the photo. I’ve resorted to using the camera app as scannable is now essentially unusable. Previously it was working okay although it sometimes is a bit hit and miss with finding the edges of documents. It doesn’t make any difference with contrasting background. It sometimes misses the edge of a document. The app also started to remove colour but I think that is fixed now. I could access settings but that is annoying if you have several scans to recolour as you have to repeat this action numerous times. If the problem with saving scans was fixed I would update this rating. The app help also suggests that support is only offered for business customers. It is a free app but it’s still poor that there is no support even when the app is basically not working. The help pages are also slow to load or broken..Version: 2.4

Simple, fast, useful… but why is it so buggy?I really enjoy using this app to digitize paper documents and get them into Evernote or my camera roll. I appreciate the app’s simple interface and find it to be intuitive. However, I always seem to encounter bugs when using it. Reviewing a scanned document, the “Reorder” bar button item was completely out of place. When adjusting the corners of a crop, I love the idea of showing a magnification of the point I’m cropping, but 60% of the magnification is blocked with a black background for some reason making the feature completely useless. Another time when reviewing a scan the one page of the group completely disappeared. I tapped “Reorder” and then went back to the scan and was able to see the “missing” document. Thankfully when confirming afterwards I was able to see that all pages made it, but what good is this app when I don’t have confidence that all of the data is being captured and saved? Please fix these frustrating bugs and improve the reliability of the app..Version: 2.5

Overall better than what is out there. If you're a die-hard Evernote user, Scannable may be the best option for you...assuming you use an iOS device, that is. Scannable on the iPhone and iPad allows you to instantly scan business cards, sketches, receipts, paper documents, and even multi-page documents with ease, and automatically file and organize the resulting images and files in your Evernote account. Your scans are automatically cropped to remove backgrounds (like the table behind the reciept, for example) and enhanced so the text is readable. If you scan a business card, the contact information from the card is automatically lifted and added to a contact card, so you can call the person, email them, or visit their website or social presence with a single tap. It's relatively new, and while it works best with Evernote, it also allows you to share your resulting scan with other apps on your iOS device, so you can upload it to Dropbox, email it, or save it to your camera roll. Best of all, it's completely and totally free—no unlocks, no premium version, although it definitely works best if you also use Evernote..Version: 2.2

Used to be goodI’ve used this app (maybe a couple times a month) for a long time now. While it has been great for the past few years, the recent changes have been very disappointing. Now you have to either sign in or pay $70 per year. Not happening. Especially when there are a ton of other apps that will scan documents for free. Good bye scannable. Hello CamScanner..Version: 2.8

A little unpredictable especially with invisible buttons!Have used Evernote Scannable for a while and it is generally very reliable, giving easy to read scans that can be cropped or edited as needed. There are however a couple of quirks that prevent me from giving it 5 stars: * For some reason, saving a scan to files comes under the ‘send’ menu not ‘save’ which is just odd! Save only gives the option to save it to camera roll or to your Evernote app. * When you save to Files (iOS) and select from the file menu, the two buttons allowing you to save or cancel at the top of the menu box are white on white so completely invisible. Major bug???? Would be great if you could fix this Evernote. * Doesn’t always reliably pick up the outline of a document so you get a picture of the document on the table top which then has to be cropped, rather than a neat scan. Otherwise a great little app that makes scanning documents as easy as on phone and tablet. Who needs a dedicated printer-scanner?!.Version: 2.4

Finally an Update, but Still BuggyI’ve been using the Scannable app for probably 10 years, since back in Evernote’s hay-day. While I’ve long moved on from Evernote, I still like this scanning app. So when the first update in years popped up earlier this week, I got really excited that maybe they’d fix the painfully obvious bug that started a few years ago. It shows up every time you go to crop a scan, and the zoomed in area inside the magnifying glass at the top of the screen becomes half-blacked-out so you can’t actually see anything inside the magnifying glass, rendering it useless. But nope, in typical Evernote fashion they didn’t address the obvious problems. I’ll continue using the app because it’s still my favorite scanning app, but it would be really nice to see an obvious bug like that fixed..Version: 2.5
