Zova for Negative User Reviews

Stole my moneyI tried to do a free membership with this app, and I don’t know if it was my mistake or the apps mistake but it accidentally made me pay for a year long subscription, which cost me £50! I emailed them as soon as I noticed this error which must’ve only been about a few days later, but they still haven’t replied to me a month later!.Version: 3.11.14

Horrible Customer ServiceI’m not one to write any reviews, but I was extremely disappointed in the customer service I received. I decided to give the app a go during an advertised 2 week trial. Upon immediately downloading the app, I was charged the full yearly membership without any preface. While sure, $87 is not a lot for a year of what looks like great workouts, I was not expecting to be charged without any agreement. I contacted their support email and received a default “we’ll get back to you in 24 hours.” Called Apple and had them refund me right after I received that email. Received my response from Zova 24 hours later basically saying that it was my fault that I was charged bc I probably had downloaded the app prior to this instance and that I should just call Apple for my refund. So yeah, no help whatsoever and I was to blame for automatic charges upon downloading the app. Thanks for the inconvenience. You should consider adding in an option that asks for customer approval before charging them. Or at least the option to pick a subscription plan..Version: 3.7.10

IPad SupportWhy is this app still not compatible with the iPad?.Version: 3.6.7

Good, but let down by buggy watch appThe app itself is solid. I'm a premium subscriber and I love the simplicity of the workouts. I especially like the fact that they are short enough to be integrated easily into a daily routine without the persistent internal fight to make yourself do it every day. If you've ever done P90X you'll be familiar with this struggle. So on the plus side it helps build habit and routine. However, the Apple Watch app is laughably poor. I use it for integrated heart rate monitoring when working out using my Apple TV and it is painfully slow, inaccurate and crashes 80% of the time. Almost every other day I have to force quit the watch app at the end because it crashes leaving the heart rate LEDS permanently on killing the battery in about 3hrs. If they fix the watch app I will increase my rating but at the moment it is so poor that it's essentially not functional..Version: 1.12.1

IPad Pro AppI really like the idea of this App but please make it available on a bigger screen like iPad’s, iPad pro’s and or Apple Watch. Also a meal logging or water intake logging would be nice. Otherwise it’s a good app..Version: 2.8.0

Waste of time - can’t be used without signupI could not find how to close the Premium screen so I contacted the developer, who replied that they no longer offer a free version. The only way to try this out is to sign up for 7 day trial..Version: 3.7.5

'Pay' content limits use of this appUpon first use I thought this app was very promising ... until it limited what you could do unless you paid for 'premium' content. Making a person wait for 5-6 hours to get another workout is ridiculous, there's so many others out there that offer more for less - I'll just delete yours and use another instead.Version: 2.2.18

Don't like the new versionI don't love the changes that have been made to this app. While I appreciate the attempt to customize my workout to my personal needs (which is a great idea), I used to love this app for its big menu of workout options, from which I could pick and choose. Now, unless I'm missing something (if I am, someone let me know!), I only seem to have access to my "customized" workouts, the ones the app has chosen for me based on my profile, and sometimes that's not enough. I'd like to have both options, if possible: follow the customized program AND be able to pick and choose. But that said, the app still works well for me on iPhone 6, the videos are well made, and the workouts easy to follow..Version: 2.0.1

No cumulativeThis app doesn't take into account your whole week so in order to get a decent rating it thinks you should exercise for hours every single day. If for example you exercise 2 hours every day and have a day where you do an hour then it will drop massively, as though you've magically lost your fitness overnight. Very poorly designed app with a formula that doesn't work. Also it's idea of 'great' fitness is a lot of exercise which could easily develop unhealthy realationships with exercise. I have a background of quite severe anorexia so I really wouldn't recommend this app to anyway who has suffered from compulsive exercise as it reinforces very negative and unhealthy beliefs about exercise. Like yesterday I went for a 3 mile/5k run and 4 miles walk and that was 'good'..Version: 2.4.1

Promising but keeps crashing on AppleTV mid-workoutI’ve used this app numerous times mostly on the AppleTV but it keeps crashing halfway through my workout and numerous attempts to resume where I was fail by crashing again..Version: 3.11.8

A massive downgrade from previous versionsWhile the new version of Zova is nice, it's only really good if you're a premium user. Prior to this update we were able to choose from a large variety of workouts (premium users got more choice still), and we could search for new ones. The app now has a trainer ("Zara") to recommend ones for you, which is great, until you realise you can only access three workouts a day. And you can't do those three workouts together; there's essentially a 6 hour cool down afterwards?! For people who liked to do an hours workout, that's now impossible without paying for a monthly subscription. I understand why they've done this, but I'm extremely disappointed that what was once the best app available for free workouts is now essentially useless..Version: 2.0.0

Keeps crashing :(Used to love this app and used it everyday but now it won’t even open without crashing.Version: 2.7.4

Used to be GreatI had been using Zova for over two years, on average 4 times per week. I loved it and it kept me really fit. I’d add in weights to some of the workouts to step things up and could really see results. Since removing the recommended workouts I’ve trailed off from using it and now don’t at all and am looking for new fitness apps. I used to get up in the morning and do a few recommended workouts without thinking and then get on with my day. Now I have to search, read through different workouts, can’t file the favourite ones into different categories for ease of search so I’m spending time in the morning having to do that. I just end up going for a run or jog instead. Really disappointing as I was such a massive fan and advocate..Version: 3.7.3

DONT DOWNLOADThe app won’t let u do anything without paying for premium. There’s no “x” to do a free one.Version: 3.7.5

Not goodI just downloaded this app last night off of my health app on my iPhone 8 Plus and it doesn’t let me do anything or exercise. Every time I open the app it stays on the same page with just a few pictures and preview link and that’s all. When I click on preview to see then when I’m done and close it up it goes right back to the same page from the start. How can I do the exercise if it won’t do anything. It is free for a month too. Not very happy with it at the moment. The only reason I downloaded the app was cause of all the great reviews..Version: 3.10.2

Good but could be betterI have been using the free version and have found it to be motivating and easy to use with lots of variety. I have just begun a free trial of the paid version and discovered that the weekly workout video cannot be rotated to enable full screen viewing. This makes it difficult to view on the phone especially as the iOS app can’t be cast to the tv unless you have Apple TV..Version: 3.4.3

Pay wallYou have to pay a yearly subscription to use this, don't bother.Version: 3.7.4

The love was realThey ruined this app. Before you could do as many free workouts as you pleased now you complete one and then you have to wait 5 hours or longer. I hate this app now. The update is crap. I miss the old zova. Worst app ever..Version: 2.2.12

Quick workoutsI try to use Zova daily - especially when I can't fit a 30 minute workout in my day . Sometimes wish I could 2 short zova workouts ..Version: 2.2.10

Very poor app.DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP!!! There is no way to use this app without purchasing an upgrade. Very poor..Version: 2.7.0

PaymentFix your subscription method I can't even buy a one month plan.Version: 1.5

A “booty as tight as my schedule”?As a 54 year old man, it’s not clear what I’d want to do with a “tight booty” (or, indeed, what they do with theirs). But within a few moments of installing this, it becomes obvious that the developers have taken the odd decision to exclude men from its target audience - all the images and materials appear to be delivered by and for women with their alarming “tight booties”. So - thanks, but I’ll give my money to app developers with a more balanced view of the world. Fortunately, there’s plenty of high quality alternatives. Best wishes..Version: 3.11.0

So-soI subscribed for premium to get the “personalised” workouts. The good: there is something about this app that has motivated me to go to the gym 5 days a week. I think it’s because the workouts are short enough to fit into my schedule, and because it has some arbitrarily calculated fitness score that goes up each time I log something as simple as a walk. I also like that it asks at the end of the workout whether it’s too hard/easy/just right. The workouts now feel appropriate to my fitness level. The bad: I don’t think the workouts are really targeted. They seem to be randomly assigned - I do M,W,F, and primarily get core and arm strength workouts - occasionally cardio. I would appreciate an overall full body workout. I also don’t think I’m seeing any big difference. But at least I’m going regularly..Version: 2.9.0

Avoid99% of the content is locked unless you pay. A waste of time..Version: 2.8.0

Lost everythingThis new update lost me all of my progress and most importantly all my favourite workouts list. I can't even login with my old account ! Huge disappointment !.Version: 2.2.11

Greedy capitalists grrI had this app years ago and there were paid options but i used laid back stretches/yoga type workouts for free. i remember it being amazing. i redownload it today and you *have* to use the subscription or paid trial ??? i was planning on using it for longer than a WEEK. i’m a student, do you think im willing to rake out bloody £7.99 a week or month or whatever absurd price youre making up to stretch ?! incredibly disappointed the way the app was before was great in my opinion, update is awful.Version: 3.11.15

Seemed great at firstI liked the casual phone chat style of text but I found it frustrating that you have to pay to get any decent use out of this app apart from simply logging in your other workouts. I like the concept and sleek design but there isn’t even a function to amend/delete accidental entries or to log workouts from previous days which I find to be a major flaw in user experience. I’d also prefer the option to type in times without using the scroll bar. Maybe I’d pay for the full app in the future when I’m rich enough..Version: 2.9.0

Terrible update: Recommended workouts removedPlease return the 2x3 program and recommend workouts, I subscribed only because they were such a great fit for my busy lifestyle! I don’t want 30mins of cardio, I do my cardio cycling, or swimming, or running on the weekends, and those small 10min stretch/strength tailored workouts were just perfect to stay toned during the week. Very disappointed :(.Version: 3.6.0

What the hell?I downloaded Zova because I want to lose weight, and I can’t afford a gym membership. After the introduction, Vix mentions about the Zova Premium. It then took me to a page explaining all about Zova Premium, and wouldn’t let me out of that page unless I bought it. So, my app is basically not usable..Version: 3.7.5

Apple Watch 4?I just downloaded the app and like the workouts so far but it doesn’t seem to work with the new Apple Watch. Hoping this changes so I can try it before purchasing the premium subscription..Version: 3.6.1

Have to be premium?I have been trying to use the app but can’t by pass them premium option Please help.Version: 3.7.3

Extremely effective with some downsidesBad 1) freezes often and there’s no way to prompt the video to restart or unfreeze 2) as far as I can tell, if you accidentally skip (“fast forward” on the touch screen essentially) an exercise you can’t go back 3) the emphasis on calories minimizes variety. LOTS of big lower body work and no modifications offered. My knees are killing me by the end; I wish there was more true whole-body emphasis and fewer explosive movements. Enough with the pop squats! Good: 1)You work the whole time. Stretch and cool down are on your own, so the times you see reflect true “on” time 2) the trainer, Vix, is great. She keeps my form on track and gives excellent guidance. She’s the reason I’ve stuck with it despite having to modify on my own a lot. 3) I love that my main workouts are fed to me and I don’t have to poke around the app. Just press play. 4) The extra workouts are very good as add ons. If I found something structured this way with a trainer as good as Vix but with less lower body focus, I’d switch. As is it’s still a pretty good app..Version: 3.11.2

Doesn’t utilize Health app dataI would love to give this app 5 stars, but I can’t. During set up it specifically asks for access to your Health app. The Health app is a central depository for numerous activities. I currently set workouts on my Apple Watch, then watch as it records time spent, calories burned and other activity. This is documented in the Health app and I can see a break down of my most active days and the data associated with it. My understanding of Zova was that it references this when calculating your weekly score. It does not do this. I can do numerous activities outside of Zova, see the progress I’m making, but because I’m not doing the specific Zova exercise in the app, my weekly Zova score drops. This creates the opposite effect the app is trying to instill. I see no progress being made because I jogged up a mountain and had my Watch capture the exercise data. After a week of alternating (Zova programs one day, independent Watch recorded data the next), my Watch had recorded all relevant data and I could reference my progress in both the Activity app and in the Health app, but Zova said it was my weakest week yet! 😂 It’s a bummer too cause the programs are good. Maybe when they integrate this correctly I’ll be willing to pay the sub, but right now it’s not worth the monthly fee..Version: 3.0.1

Has potential but needs improvementsI was really excited about this app and I am a premium member. I was hoping there would be more longer workout “programs” but all there is only ZX5. This program is OK but it is very cardio focused. I would like more strength training involved, like use of home weights. I also don’t understand why it records their predetermined calorie number and not your actual calories burned. I also don’t like how it tracks in my Activity app by the length of the workout and not the calories burned. I also wish there was a way to do this on a Roku or Fire Stick. I don’t have an Apple TV..Version: 3.11.1

Video stops randomlyFor some reason, video always stops in the middle of workout, have to do it without video, then it came back later. Please fix this..Version: 3.11.1

Great app, but…I really love this app for the stretching routines and the tracking, but when I updated it last, all my progress/personalization was gone. I tried all the tips I read online, but none of them worked. ☹️☹️.Version: 2.4.1

Log In NightmareLogging into this service is virtually impossible. I don’t have email on my phone (deliberately) and apparently a simple password isn’t the way forward. You need to hit a link in an email instead. Also saving the “magic”link into Safari doesn’t work. I’m sure the exercises are great. At this point I’ve only spent 30 minutes trying to log in..Version: 2.7.3

DisappointedI’ve been using Zova for my daily exercise routine for over a year now. Initially I was quite happy with the app because it had a lot of single daily exercises I could choose from, including target exercises for lower body, upper body or full body ranging from 7 to 13 minutes. Lately though Zova have changed, incorporating only 3 exercises which are longer, ranging from 22 to 30 minutes each. I find these exercises quite fast paced, there is not seconds to spare between exercises, once you finish one exercise it does not give you the time to get in position to star a new one. I am very disappointed with this charge because I prefer to exercise everyday as opposed to every other day, I do not understand why the single exercises were removed. Very hard to get in touch with Zova, since they don’t even answer your emails..Version: 3.6.5

Too hard too fastI wanted to check out other fitness apps and this was rated quite highly, I can see why. The interface is very sleek and polished and it is user friendly - somewhat. The videos that show you the workouts are good and I enjoy the voice over which other apps don’t have. BUT, even when I had the premium version I didn’t feel the app was tailored to me and my skill set. I’d like to say I’m somewhere just below the middle when it comes to fitness. I started my journey a few weeks ago after only really having used gym equipment and gym classes before. I don’t have the flexibility and agility that the app required of me. There were a lot of moves I would rather build up to rather than have to do straight away, and you don’t get a choice to swap and change (PERSONALISE) your routine like you do with other apps. Even when I was on a lower fitness setting. I was also confused as to how much the app wanted me to do since there were celebrity classes, normal classes and then targeted classes - it wasn’t always clear which one of these were extras and which ones were my routine for the day. Overall I would say only get this app if you’re quite confident fitness wise or you’re up for a hard challenge (but don’t expect to be able to complete the routine first time)..Version: 3.3.0

Good but could do with more coaching cuesGood but could do with more coaching cues.Version: 3.11.14

Version 2.5.3 no goodLove this app but after installing this version it didn't work anymore, hence average score. I wasn't able to log workouts and scores weren't updating. It was only when I uninstalled and reinstalled app that it was fixed..Version: 2.5.3

Poorly testedI’ve been using the app for more than a year and purchased annual subscription. Overall, I like the content, but using the app with Apple Watch is quite bad and completely stopped working for me about a month ago. Also dometimes I’d like to workout in poor network conditions and the way the app caches videos is suboptimal. Can you at least cache 5 last used videos? Or favourite workout videos? Otherwise the app shows exercise preview video, then you have to wait until the workout video downloads. Why? It’s the same video. Thanks!.Version: 3.9.2

Not the best! This isn’t targeted , it doesn’t ask in depth what I want to do? A lot of squats , i feel like I paid premium in the hope that it could help me more however the 2x3 workouts it suggests again aren’t the areas I want to target or I physically can’t do , due to weak legs or a bad back. This app doesn’t teach you form and occasionally doesn’t show you previews? I can’t do a lot of jump squats or frogger exercises so had to skip yesterday completely! Have now cancelled my subscription.Version: 2.8.0

UselessYeah, useless. You can't register, you can't skip Apple Health integration even if there is a skip button. The only way to see anything is to subscribe. I'll subscribe if I see value not just because of the pretty colours. The only way to see anything is to go premium (contrary to what the developer replied to another commenter). Useless.Version: 3.7.5
