AuroraWatch UK Aurora Alerts for Negative User Reviews

Not really helpful in getting you to see the auroraWhilst this app does have its virtues, it’s biggest problem is that it informs you of aurora activity when it is too late. Telling me what is currently occurring isn’t good enough to go to a location to see it because by the time you you get there, the forecast has changed and aurora completed. There’s no forecast at play, which makes it a bit useless. It’s fun if you wish to see a livecam from the Shetland’s, but that’s it. The colour coding is also inaccurate. I’ve seen many red alerts on there, and it notifies you that the red alert means that the aurora is visible everywhere in the U.K., and this simply never true. It is never visible all over the U.K.– all one can really say is that it is visible in parts of Scotland & northern England. I’ve been attempting to chase the aurora for the last 6-7 years, but this app hasn’t really helped me in that regard. I guess this is just an app for someone purely interested in geomagnetic activity..Version: 2.7.0

Notifications too late! The App sends out notifications but, very frustratingly, these are almost always just after an Aurora can be seen, so you miss seeing the event! Makes this App very irritating to use - especially when woken up in the middle of the night to tell you what you’ve missed. There must be a way of improving the transmission of data and alerts to prevent the latency and lag..Version: 2.7.0

Notifications arrive late, and not due to my internetI like the app, but I only get notifications hours late. This is NOT due to my internet connectivity or settings; often during that time I’ve been working on my phone and receiving all other notifications immediately. This seems to be a common problem with it. The app itself tells you to contact the developer directly - when you click on the support link in the App Store it then takes you to the page telling you to contact the developer directly - so just sends you in a circle..Version: 2.9.0

Near real time readings, yes, but nothing moreThe app does provide near real time info and if that is what you’re after, ie 15mins notice, then all’s well. However, and maybe I’m being too simplistic, but I find that presenting 12hours of past readings but not then using them in any way such as a rolling forecast/prediction (possibly including for experience/knowledge gained by full time watchers if possible and even if it had to be limited/qualified as some sort of considered comment on “increased momentum”, “activity increasing” or “likelihood of occurrence” covering a period something like 3 or 4 hours ahead) to be a significant omission. To me, presenting past data is redundant if it’s not actually used in some way that brings added value..Version: 2.4.8

I love what you do but its hard to let you knowFirst time on this app today. I found it through some southern aurora pics and after continued reading I realised that I could be alerted when there would be or could be an aurora over parts of the UK. I downloaded the app and have fallen in love with your live webcams. With the opportunity to watch an aurora, to follow a seal colony and to watch and listen to the Ocean I feel truly privileged. However after giving all my details and reading comments from other app users I decided to post my thoughts, basically what I have said here, but there was no post button. Twice more I filled in the required details plus my post, to no avail. I will look forward to hearing from you Yours sincerely Nicola Drayton.Version: 2.1.1

Good appIt’s a good app, not as accurate as SpaceWeather but good all the same, but I don’t how they can see Aurora is unlikely to be shown in Scotland or any parts of the UK , that’s plainly not true I live on the Isle of Skye and the Aurora has been visible already over Skye and the highlands dozens of times, you’ll nearly always get an Aurora here but not much further south. I think in that sense they need to change the app, and have Shetland and Orkney in one band highlands of Scotland in a separate band lowlands of Scotland in another band northern England separate and maybe include NI and southern England separate too because there is a massive difference between northern Scotland and the borders of Scotland for an Aurora..Version: 2.4.14
