DRC - Polyphonic Synthesizer for Negative User Reviews

Nice design, poor performance on iPhone 4sI was surprised to see it was free when I cliked on the link in the article I read. The video conviced me and was about to buy it if I got to. Luckily, it cost nothing because I would've felt I've wasted my money. The app loads up but when playing, the sound gives me glitches when playing one or more than one note. I know this has just came out but it would be nice to have a fix soon because I want to get my hands on this! I've deleted stuff to try if it was a space problem but it wasn't the case. Please fix it!!.Version: 1.0.0

Cheap shotDidn’t like that I had to buy something before the system could be used, any time a purchase came up, if I cancelled, it would not let me back in to the basic model. Only just bought, so it remains to be seen if it is worth it, or if it’s a rip off..Version: 2.2.4

Crasjhed..Downloaded this App twice but after allowing notifications it crashed straight away! So unable to check it out. Using iPhone 6 on iOS 12..Version: 1.1.10

Can’t find any answers to questionIs the AU3 broken? It worked for a bit in NanoStudio 2 but now it’s hit and miss. I would’ve assumed it was done fort of trial limitation but there’s nothing mentioned anywhere if 9.99 is required to AU3. It’s presented more as a bug and I don’t want it if it’s buggy with NanoStudio. Now I have to find replacement instruments for several tracks built around these sounds. Well worth $10 if it fixes the problem..Version: 2.6.1

Not ImpressedThought I owned the app, so bought a preset pack, then got a time out message which made me realise I hadn't even got the full working app, them found the price had gone up! Just completed a survey which offered a 50% discount if I done it to find that it's for the desktop version only! Not sure how offering me customer service now is helpful!? I've already told you the problem. You shouldn't allow the purchase of presets if the fully useable app has not even been purchased yet! If you're asking me to contact customer service then please make it clear why. And stop asking me to leave a review!!.Version: 1.1.10

DupedDownloaded the app and then downloaded some patches for £3.99. A few minutes later was confronted wth a message locking the app unless I paid a further £8.99 and I’d barely used it while having parted with my money. Outrageous..Version: 2.2.7

Drain the batteryIt sounds great but just discovered that is draining the battery , I turned off background refresh but is still draining battery. Decided to uninstalled it. Sorry.Version: 1.1.6

Not a free appThis seems like a ton of fun, and a really cool synth, but it's absolutely not free like its pitching itself. You can use it for about 20 minutes, being interrupted every 5 minutes or so. After the 20 minutes, you have to pay $10 to continue using it. Seems like a great synth, but the dishonest advertising turns my stomach. If you're into being lied to and manipulated, this might be the app for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere..Version: 1.1.6

Accidental Purchase. Decent synth but misleading.I recently downloaded DRC and after playing with it for only a few minutes, I was prompted to pay $8.99 because apparently this “free” app is really a trial. Because my finger was rested on the home button when this happened, payment went through without me having a chance to stop it. Ugh. I think having the ability to create sounds on the go and have them easily loadable into the desktop VST is an incredible feature, but the VST costs an extra $79! Not a fan at all of this business model, because if I really enjoyed the synth I would gladly pay more than $8.99 to get it on all platforms. Now, the synth itself is a standard subtractive synth. There are some cool presets that show off what the synth can do, and I really like the chord keyboard function. The oscillators sound good and the effects are decent, especially the tape delay which is a lot of fun to play with. I also own Zeeon on ios and prefer the sound of its filters and modulation options, as well as it having a sequencer. Although it was an accidental purchase I still can see myself coming back to DRC. The GUI is slick and its fun to play with, but I feel like I’m missing out on its best feature which is cross-platform patches. I already own a bunch of softsynths and hardware that I use in Ableton, so I won’t be shelling out another $79 for this anytime soon..Version: 1.1.10

Ridiculous test timeIt's ridiculous that the test time is only like 15 to 20 min., on top of that, you get interrupted with upsell pop ups every other five minutes while the app is "free". It looked really nice, good preloaded patches, good effects, and advanced mixing options; but I didn't have the chance to even hook it up to my setup, little I had known I would only had it for 15 minutes. I have nothing against paid apps, just don't advertise it as free..Version: 1.1.6

AUV3 unlock issuesI bought the DRC app ages ago, and the great update AUv3 keeps asking me to unlock in stand alone ....what’s the solution to getting my music making experience with DRC back on track to 5 stars..Version: 2.4.0

Cheated.Feeling a little bit cheated since I accidentally pressed a button saying ‘unlock all features’. Not mention of a charge at that point, and then it went straight through to ‘DONE’ on a payment page. Very underhanded technique and kinda spoilt what was an enjoyable app that I might have paid for at some point in the future. Buyer beware!.Version: 1.1.10

App won’t launchHappy to come back and up the stars, if this “works on my iPad” app actually works. It launches, crashes and minimises showing a black screen. Weirdly, the “contact us” page just shows a totally white screen in my iPad browser. Tweeted the maker, hoping for a fix….Version: 1.1.10

Bare bonesIt’s stripped down and simple but the perameters are braid and deep plenty off space and sound to explore.Version: 2.5.0

MisleadingIt's listed as free but last night it gave me an option to unlock or wait few seconds to use as is, that's forcing in-app or at least preventing me from uninterrupted use. I might have to ask Apple but I think it shouldn't be listed as free if I can't keep using it uninterrupted..Version: 2.7.0

Great synth BUT...Great UI, very rich sounds, but your business model is more then A bit disingenuous. I downloaded the synth, immediately fell for the design and ability To make useful textures quickly, THEN after purchasing additional Sound banks, had the message come up “would you like to use this synth permanently (or something like that.) You could be far more clear that this is a paid app. You’re not. That’s very very greasy. It’s the only reason this is a 2 star review. I reluctantly paid the additional 11.99 Stephen Falk I had replied on your website and have yet to hear anything Back.Version: 2.5.0

Maybe increase trial/play “time to $$buy$$” messageI think it’s great that you offer a trial period allowing potential customers to test drive your product. In lieu of offering a free & minimally functioning app loaded with distracting advertisements. I would consider providing a little more time before the “aren’t you loving our app?” pop-ups start. I think you do have a well laid out, nice sounding product. Why not let people experience it & become more familiar with it’s sounds and features. If you are making a good product I will buy. I am sure I could uninstall and use it some more. I stopped and tried it because the sound caught my ears. But started to lose interest as the interruptions kept popping up wile I was trying to figure out the synth..Version: 1.1.6

Almost but not quite...yet.Update: Yes, they're better synths (for far less money), like Audiokit One Synth that's free! $30 for the whole app is laughable. Yes, it has good sound but they're gauging us on it's price. I could see the whole package for $15. ------- I have not come across a developer of iOS apps that locks the whole app if you don't but it. $15 is way too high considering the missing "basic features" (no numerical settings values, no note hold, etc.) And now not being able to even look in the app, I change my 4-star review to 1-star. Deleting the app. There are plenty of good synth apps; Crystal Synth, Mitosynth, Magellan, Animoog, Nave, Sunrizer, TC-11 and iMS-20 are some of my favorites. ----- While DRC does yield some real down and dirty sounds, it's missing two important features that I am surprised the developer didn't design into the app. A note hold button is a necessity. Without one you handcuff the performer constantly tying up one hand with the key board. To do it right you need nite hold as well as note hold toggle. The other is there should be a numerical setting display for the control values so you see what the exact setting is. The user interface is better than many synth apps. That aspect was well thought out..Version: 2.6.1

SadI was just messing around with the synth. trying to find a sound that I enjoyed, when I came across a glitch, that let me make it sound very very over blown. I instantly fell in love with sound of it. So while tuning this over blown synth to what I wanted I got a message to buy the synth. Not wanting to lose this unique synth, I attempted to buy it. Only to have the app crash on me. When I opened it. The synth made no noise at all. It's broken now and won't make any noise..Version: 1.1.6

Too many interruptionsAfter downloading, I played around with the app, trying to get a feel for it. Unfortunately, every few minutes a dialogue box pops up, enticing me to sign up "forever." If I don’t sign up, I have to wait around ten seconds before the dialog box disappears. This interruption recurs too frequently, so I deleted the app. A shame really, because the app did show promise... but I’m not willing to be put on hold repeatedly while I assess its usefulness. Update... After my review was posted, the developer emailed me, stating that they,” feel sad when people review the business model instead of DRC's sound and features.” The whole point of my review was to highlight the fact that I couldn’t assess the app’s sound and features due to the constant interruptions from “the business model.” As I mentioned in my original review, the app shows promise. But the interruptions are far too frequent, and I feel that potential purchasers should be warned about that simple shortcoming before they download the app. Despite my personal reservations, I wish the developer, and the app, every success..Version: 2.2.7

DO NOT DOWNLOAD!! Tricked me into buying it!! Very angry with this app!ITS A SCAM BE CAREFUL! I didn’t want to buy it, I tried it out for a moment and then it was quickly authenticated by Face ID as I tried to get away! Don’t download it is a scam to trick you!! I don’t have 8.99 to lose for an app I barely tried! It was sort of cool but I reopened it once and it tricked me into the full purchase without realizing, and it’s likely to do the same to you. Very disappointing. I will not be using this app or supporting this. I want to cancel and get a refund! I repeat DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT! It’s a risk you might pay $9.00 for!.Version: 1.1.10

Dark UI - borderline scam appPretty Cool sounds, really strong synth for an iPhone and iPad app…. Even though i paid for a bunch of the upgraded features quite some time ago - and spending $30-45 or more… it isn’t worth ever using. Dark UI scams you out of your money. Not worth it. How you ask? Every time this app automatically offloads to save hard drive space it will not remember your purchases. There is no “restore purchases” option. Clever girl! (Picturing that scene from Jurassic Park when the raptor learns to use the door handle)… because after a few minutes, upon downloading and using it again, it will ask if you would like to purchase an upgrade to continue using. Again there is no restore purchases option. There are many features for purchase on this app and so…. If you have purchased, and agree to buying again… it will restore your purchases at no cost. If you don’t remember if you’ve purchased a feature or not, and you have not…. It will charge you for something you weren’t sure you already owned. After a couple of years of trying to use this synth, and having been charged a couple of times for things that I didn’t really want…. it can safely be assumed this “faulty” UI is undoubtedly on purpose. Come on, it’s been YEARS. Don’t download this garbage, there’s much better options out there for both your ears and your wallet. DARK UI. APPLE, PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THIS..Version: 2.8.3

BewareThis is not a free app as you are conned into believing. If you download this app you will find that it will play for about a minute and then stops with a pop-up that suggests that you that you pay £8 pounds to continue. Also not happy that I was asked to cofirm my apple account before I could download. I have already deleted this app. My message to the creators of this app is be honest and say the app costs and put the price on it don't con people into thinking this is a free app because you are wasting people's time and time is precious. I have given you one star because I could not give you less..Version: 1.1.10

It has stopped workingGreat synth, but ever since ios12 it doesn’t open on iPhone, black screen for a couple of seconds and then crashes. It still works on my iPad though.Version: 1.1.10

“Background usage” questionableWhen your phone battery starts depleting At an alarming rate, and an app that you haven’t opened in months appears at the top of your battery consumption in your settings, there’s something wrong. It was fun to tool around with but isn’t integrated enough to be useful in a genuine music setting... which didn’t stop them from trying to sell me new features via notifications until I shut them off. “Background usage” is not a valid reason to have an inactive app completely screw my battery life. Downloaded beware..Version: 1.1.6

Drains batteryIt might be a good synth but it drains the battery of my iPad overnight with background activity. Really? From 100% battery goes to 15% with my iPad sitting on my desk. I’m looking at the battery usage statistics and I see 86% DRC background activity, so I delete it and now I’m back to normal. Sorry but did not have a chance to see how good is the synth. There is something wrong with how this app is designed..Version: 1.1.6
