Will not play on tvWon’t play on my Samsung smart tv from my iPhone. I’ve tried tons of different ways. It will eventually play only the “vidangel watch however the bleep you want” graphic and then stop. I’ve tried subscribing online and subscribing in app via pay it forward. It will only play directly on my device or if I connect it to the tv with hdmi cable. If I screen share to the tv it will play small and low rez. Practically useless for my setup.Version: 5.3.2

Very Glitchy!The idea and filters are AWESOME, but the app is very glitchy. It will continue to play the sound of the movie outside of the app but does not support PIP. When you go back into the app and restart the movie, the sound that was still playing in the background will play alongside the current audio of where you initially had left off on the movie when you left the app. I’d love to give this a 5-star review but the app has many bugs!.Version: 6.5.0

Its a bit buggyLove the app. It just needs a few bug fixes. The biggest one is that the sound of a show continue to play when you go out of it and sometimes still plays when you start a new thing so then you have 2 things playing at once. Also sometimes filters don’t work. For example to filter out a certain word, the word sometimes still plays or is in the subtitles..Version: 6.4.5

Extremely Buggy!I love the concept of the VidAngel’s service. However, their programming team has done a poor job implementing their iOS app. I just paid for a subscription but can’t even use it since their app doesn’t recognize my purchase even though it shows up under my Apple subscriptions as active. Everything from navigation the app, managing your watchlist, or even just hitting the back button are all super buggy. As a software engineer, I simply can not understand how this app is being released with such obvious bugs! I’ve used alpha/beta apps that are far more stable than this. I’m going to ask Apple for a refund..Version: 5.2.19

Wanted to love itIt seemed like every show or movie my husband and I wanted to watch was R rated so when I heard about this app I was so excited to try it. After many attempts to use it however I was so frustrated that I cancelled my subscription. It would play two soundtracks at the same time, and there was no way to end it without closing down the app. Casting to my Samsung TV was little wonky but I managed to get one show on there but again there is no way to stop it. I could stop the video but the sound kept running, even if I tried to watch something else. I hope they will fix all their glitches soon and let me know so I can try again..Version: 6.5.0

They’re not even tryingSo many constant issues. CC doesn’t work, or is behind, or just stops working in the middle of an episode. Casting reliability is bad. Episode verification gives errors. It has trouble doing something as basic as marking where you left off to continue watching. I suppose if they don’t have competition they don’t have to care; not sure why they’re taking people’s money though. I’ll limit my money taken to one month. I do enough cursing dealing with this app, who cares about filtering?.Version: 6.6.14

Freezing up now since I Can’t cast straight to rokuWhen we first had the app we would cast to our roku and it worked great. Now we have to use Apple TV streaming because there is no longer a roku option. Each time the app tries to filter it freezes and we have to start the movie over or fast forward and sometimes neither of those work. Happens over and over again. Planning to cancel my subscription. Just not worth it anymore. Super bummed because we used it often before this happened..Version: 5.4.4

Very Buggy....I downloaded the other day and find the following issues: iPad: 1. Graphically, the show thumbnails are MASSIVE and actually take a scroll or two to get to the function buttons - Watch Now, or Filters, etc. (and i’m using the 12.9 in iPad Pro). 2. A more annoying issue is that when the show is playing, the devices day/time, battery, wifi, and menu bar do not disappear. It’s extremely distracting having them present throughout the whole show. 3. The edit bar that showed how your filters impact the show/episode/film was removed for some reason. That used to be a very helpful feature. Apple TV: 1. Quite simply, I can’t watch anything on it because it either will say there is no internet connectivity upon starting my selection, or if it does finally decide to start my selection, it will play for a few minutes then totally take over my Apple TV by freezing it on a full screen message stating, “We’re sorry there was an error”, or something of that nature. I actually need to restart my device to get it to close the app. I understand needing to make updates, but these items are so blatant i’m not sure how/why this version was released..Version: 5.2.8

Good but glitchyI love the service VidAngel provides so we can watch shows we love without the language Hollywood thinks it needs to entertain. However when I use it on my iPhone I sometimes have to continuously restart the app because it either cuts half the screen off or just won’t load right. Fix that and I’ll give it 5 stars! Also I don’t think I should have to pay $15 a month for Netflix for it to work on the app that I’m paying $10 for we live in hard times and I try to cut cost as much as possible..Version: 6.6.11

Always WAY behind in updates/GlitchyUpdated to iOS 15 and this app wont work on any of my iOS 15 devices. This update has been out for a couple months and Vidangel has not made sure their app can work smoothly with it. Shows wont even turn on and this isn’t the first time we’ve had issues with watching anything on this app. Ever since they changed their format to streaming off of another device such as your phone or tablet they have become so difficult to use. Don’t waste your money on a subscription..Version: 5.3.4

Utterly RetrogradeIt’s as if this new version of the app is an attempt to sabotage the company. The earlier app, with all of its bugs, was at least very good conceptually. This new app is so massively lacking in features that it’s hard to believe it was launched. Too early for me to judge the stability. Here are some of the previous features which are now missing: • Indicator bar showing how edits impact the movie runtime • A personal queue which was called “My Stuff”. Why would they eliminate your queue?! • Significantly reduced number of visible icons representing availability of content. Much of the content appears to still be there, but you see a lot less of it now which reduces the browsability of the content. There should a “show all” feature. Pluses? • Looks cleaner. It’s well done graphically • Playback interface (for iOS) looks and works better I’m sure there are more complaints (and hopefully some pluses) that I’ll find as I go. Overall, it’s quite disappointing..Version: 5.2.8

Need phone supportI wish this did work. However; I’ve spent literally hours trying to get it to the TV. I don’t want to watch it on my phone. It worked a few times and won’t bring up the FireTV as a choice anymore. It won’t work on AirPlay. I tried all the suggestions that come up and they didn’t help. It’s very frustrating. And I know it would be so helpful If there was somebody to call that could take you through the steps, but there isn’t. It’s a great idea but I think there’s something’s that need to be worked out first..Version: 6.5.0

Don’t get your hopes upI was so exited when I heard about this app. There is so much filth on movies today, you can’t hardly watch anything with your family anymore. I downloaded the app and followed all the steps and when it come time to pair my phone to the tv the movie would start and freeze just about every few seconds. We didn’t even get through a half hour of the movie and had to refresh it. I was hoping this would make the freezing go away, but it made it worse … now it’s freezing and continued to play the voices while the screen was still froze. It’s not worth it in my opinion to pay per month, and you can’t even get one movie to play the first day you try it. To the makers of vid Angel - if you could get this to work the right way, you’d make a lot of Christian families in the world very happy, just to be able to help guard the eyes and ears of their children😊 I would love to come back when reviews get better, but right now I’d have to agree with the rest of the people here…it’s not worth the hassle, time or money 😒.Version: 6.6.14

Doesn’t workWaste of money. We have the year long subscription but regret it completely. It used to work but something changed. Now, I’ll pull it up, cast it, watch something for maybe three minutes before the loading icon starts, video stops, and it never resumes. So I’ll exit out, restart and it just says there is no tv to cast to. I was doing it literally two minutes earlier. It’s not a wifi issue. It’s not user error. It’s the app. It does not work. Waste of money, waste of time. So disappointed because we were so excited but it is such a loss and we would not recommend to anyone. EDIT UPDATE we did reach out to someone, she was unable to help us. She told us she would be connecting us with someone who could assist. And then we never heard back. Last update ruins casting with AirplayWith most recent update, the Vidangel app has to be running in the foreground with the screen ON AT ALL TIMES, or Airplay will disconnect. This is not an issue if Airplay casting from any other source to the TV, and the Vidangel app clearly just updated—the fonts and icons have changed. It’s pretty obvious that something was altered in the way the app communicates with Airplay. This change in functionality is a complete bummer. I can no longer use my phone for anything else while casting, and it’s overheating because the screen has to stay on. I don’t know why they messed with something that was working well..Version: 6.5.0

Updated Process is HorribleWhatever the reason for changing the way you have to watch on firetv via using the mobile app, it totally ruined the whole experience of using vidangel. We’ve been users for a long time and love being able to filter inappropriate content, but with this new update we’re lucky to even get the videos to stream. We have to constantly reboot our firetv and reset the app until it finally decides to actually stream to the tv...even though it sees the firetv fine. Same issues with roku. Why in the world was this horrible process put in place?.Version: 5.2.16

Going downhillI’ve been using this service for about 2 years now and I don’t remember it being as difficult as it is to use now. I am constantly being logged out and having to reload, occasionally even having to change my Netflix password just to log back in. About 4 out of five times you will be able to stream fine. However. Oftentimes the app will glitch and buffer indefinitely. I have experimented with this by trying to stream on Netflix while vidangel loads and Netflix will always stream immediately with no buffering. vidangel will buffer almost every time you try to stream but it’s not unbearable. I think the app could be worth it if it is improved but it needs a lot of work..Version: 5.2.12

LOVE the heart, hate the appI hate to give anything but a five star review here. So much about this company deserves five stars - the very idea, the selection of movies, the social media posts, etc. Please, please keep improving. You’re doing awesome! However, the app itself has alot frustrations. I understand it might also be because the streaming platforms don’t make it easy on them. But the app doesn’t remember where you are in as you watch the movie. As soon as the device screen goes dark, you have to reopen app, find the movie again, reconnect to chromecast, wait for it to connect, all to just pause the movie if your kids walk in and ask a question. If the electricity goes, or it disconnects for whatever reason, it doesn’t remember where you are and you have to do all previous and then figure that out. If you need close captions, which we use on all other apps because ADHD, they are SO DELAYED to the actual audio, like 2-3 minutes by half way through the movie, it’s just pointless. So, I’ll never cancel if I can help it. I want to support the project. But please keep working on app support. Such a great idea and so very frustrating to use. Keep working. Please update the age rating!We like everything about this app so far. However, there are at least two things that need to change. 1) the age rating. VidAngel is categorized as 4+, but it needs to be higher. Our apps on the AppleTV are locked down because of our small children, except for kids apps AND this one now. This is NOT a four year old app. Please change the age rating to what it should be verses something a four year old can access. 2) being able to change filters in the app. My preference would be to change filters on my account online rather than directly in the app. If parents are wanting to block content from kids, they’d still be able to change filters in the app before they start watching the show or movie..Version: 6.6.14

Terrible.It’s no longer supported on any ROKU TVs, their app is terrible and needs so many updates. There are not enough movies or tv shows available. And their customer service is HORRIBLE. I signed up under the 7 day free trial, and was still immediately charged their monthly fee. When their app ended up being awful, I canceled immediately (within 24 hours). My request for a refund was tiptoed around for a week before I finally was able to talk to someone and get a refund. The idea behind this service is so amazing, but they have SO much work to do before it’s worth any amount of money..Version: 5.4.3

The concept is great; the app, not so muchI LOVE this idea and the service it offers, but the functionality of the app leaves a lot lacking. Without Roku ability, we are trying to cast from a phone, and it freezes every time it tries to skip a scene. The audio skips are fine, but after waiting multiple times during the first 45 minutes of a movie for buffering, we gave up. Please fix these errorsI used to think this app was amazing, but now it has too many glitches. I swipe the top right on my phone to adjust the brightness and it exits out of the video. Picture in Picture mode is non-existent now and I loved that feature. It’s too hard to skip and scroll as the dot is temperamental and either moves fast, or it exits out of the video several times! This has happened when I am trying to skip to a certain part of the movie. VidAngel. Please fix these issues, it’s making my streaming very frustrating..Version: 6.6.11

GREAT SERVICE. Crappy app.What this company allows me to do is why I give it even one star. It’s an entertainment night saver. I have a massive library to watch now. I love that. HOWEVER I’m reviewing the app here. Not the amazing service. It needs work. First, WHAT IN THE WORLD happened to the watchlist?!? It takes forever to find something now because I can only see a few titles at a time. I want to see more like before so I can find what I want to watch easier. Second, WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO FAST FORWARD. without doing so in 10 second increments when streamed to a tv. It takes forever to get to a further point in a movie if I have to resume another day. Third, if I open click a video in my watch list and then go back, it shouldn’t bring me all the way back to the top of the watchlist. Don’t recommend!I signed up through the app and canceled. Their app and website are apparently two different platforms that don’t coincide. So if you cancel make sure you cancel on the website too or they will keep taking your money. Even if the subscription says canceled in the App. I contacted customer service to get some help to remedy the situation and their agent(Ben) was no help. Not once did he make an effort to explained to me how to cancel on the website or refund my money. Just keep blaming me. Make sure that when you cancel on the website you scroll all the way to the bottom because their app is misleading and you have to confirm like 50 times to actually get the service canceled. Very disappointing experience. At least from my interaction with customer service Vidangel doesn’t care to help. They are happy to take your money and make you jump through all the hoops to cancel. I paid for 5 months because the app and website don’t sync up to cancel your subscription and the best this rude agent could do was say I’ll give you a couple months credits. Thanks but no thanks! Don’t use this service not worth the hassle to deal with customer service or their lack their of..Version: 6.6.11

Update is THE worstUsed to love using this app. Interface was easy to use. Different categories were great and I appreciated knowing how much time I was cutting out by using the filters. New interface is clunky and not intuitive. Also...It no longer will airplay to Apple TV and if I try to cast using chrome cast it times out every few minutes and makes the experience of tryin to cast or airplay to my tv so unbearable that it’s not worth the money or the hassle. Probably will cancel if things don’t get sorted out in the next week. In the middle of a pandemic when people are shut inside and wanting to stream content more than ever is the wrong time to try and make updates. Previously was 5 stars..Version: 5.2.8

Could not sign in on roku after creating account on appI was excited to use this service. i have the app on my phone and created my account very easily through the sign up with apple feature and i subscribed through itunes very easily. i have roku tvs throughout my house so i was very disappointed when i could not log into my account on roku because i had signed up through apple. i would have just created another account with my email address and a password but i had already purchased a subscription. Love the service, hate the appThe app doesn’t connect to stream on my TV when on AirPlay. It says that it connects but then on my TV it just shows the AirPlay logo. It never actually plays. It’s just so frustrating! I can see from the reviews that this issue has been going on for over two years. If it hasn’t been fixed in two years then I get the feeling customer satisfaction isn’t important to the developers. I really love what VidAngel provides to those of us who want clean TV, but I’m cancelling my service because I can’t watch any of the shows except on my cell phone screen..Version: 6.0.2
