✓ Addictive Dystopian Puzzle Fun!At its heart, Human Resource Machine is an introduction to programming in assembly language, sneakily (and brilliantly) presented as an addictive puzzle game. The challenges start simply but soon ramp up in difficulty (and the optional optimization achievements take even more effort), but the game does a great job of both teaching you how to write assembly code, and giving you a glimpse into the joys (and frustrations) of programming. Of course, the whole experience is enriched by the offbeat corporate dystopian presentation, and the slowly aging protagonist is a nice touch. ✓ Decent enough....but feels more like a chore in later stagesI've got mixed feelings about 2D Boy. They can produce a lasting gem like World of Goo, then follow it up with the very boring zero-gameplay Little Inferno. What they do well in, however, is the odd & quirky jittery graphic design, that seems to create a unique and lasting impression. HRM is basically a programming simulator with a few basic commands that you need to manipulate to complete a task. With only a few tools and some hints, you need to devise a program/routine to help the protagonist complete a set task, whether arranging blocks numerically, or sorting out a Fibonacci series. Early levels do well to encourage the player to think, and solve the puzzle, but the difficulty level ramps up very quickly, and it is difficult to follow what is going wrong, or even, what is going right! Without the charming graphics, I do not think I would enjoy this game much, but I do recognise something unique and different, and that alone deserves some credit. I just don't think this game will appeal to everyone. It certainly won't appeal to someone just looking for a relaxing brain teaser.Version: 1.0.3

✓ The hardest and most fun puzzle gameAs a programmer this plays right into my interests. It's not quite programming though. It forces you to think how a cpu would think at the very lowest level. Anyway, I don't know if Googlechin will ever read this but that level error is not a level error. If you have 1, 0, 0, 2, 0 then the output should be 1, 0, 2. Not 1, 2. ✓ Original and nostalgic for BASIC programmersI am enjoying it. As well as bringing back memories of the first few, high level programming languages, it is a modern day brain challenge for anyone. I would like to see an area of settings which would include 'saving' a programme whilst you try something different. Also the ability to print a page full of steps/lines so you can see them on one page. Also, once you have 15 or so lines on a tablet, scrolling up and down risks accidentally moving lines rather than scrolling. So, good, but room for improvement..Version: 1.0.3

✓ EGGcelent!Loved Little Inferno and I love this game too! EGG always produce really good games with a slightly creepy element/theme going on in the background. You control a worker in a slightly overbearing and seemingly meaningless factory production line. To control the little guy/girl you get taught programming skills. This is a puzzler where you have to work out the right and the best way to control your worker. Like in little inferno the gameplay, animations and graphics are excellent. The reason for four stars is not anything against the game but I've just finished year 12 with a bit of head scratching and I recon later might be a bit hard for me, but I could always use the old fashion thing of paper and pencil to help me out. ✓ Glitch stops progressWas loving the game to start with but I'm now very frustrated as a glitch is halting any further progress and I can find no way of reporting this to the developer other than through this review. I have got as far as Level 20, Multiplication Workshop. Regardless of the last two numbers input, the output product of these two numbers receives an error message "Bad outbox! Management expected 0 but you outboxed _". I cannot see how 0 can be expected at the outbox when neither of the last two numbers multiplied together are 0. Just to show how challenging it is, I worked on Level 21 for about 5 days and was convinced that there was a bug in the game that needed to be fixed. This seems to be a common misconception among many reviewers, and I also fell for it. But NO! Level 21 is not flawed, I just wasn't paying attention and thinking it through. This app is awesome. I just completed level 21, and now I can't wait to get to move on. I'm almost 50, by the way, with a graduate degree heavy in maths. ✓ Great for practicing logic.If logic is naturally not your strong suit, this game is excellent for refining your method of thinking. It’s simple (in the beginning), challenging, and fun. This game is very well designed in that you unknowingly adapt to new thought processes. After getting to a later level, I had gone back to optimize my code from previous levels. ✓ Best Game EverThis is the funnest game i have ever gotten from the app store. The programing is easy to get the hang do to the simple commands. The step back and debug feature is by far one of the best featured. It helps me through every level. One problem (and one nitpick) TL DR version level broken On the level zero terminated sum you get a zero terminated string ( a bunch of numbers ended with a zero) and you have to add all of those numbers up then give them the result i have a program that worked before no problem but now when i run the same program on the same level it dose not work. The last string always says it should add up to 0 but it never dose in real life (i.e. 1 3 -5 0) added up equals -1 but it says my answer should be zero every time even though the numbers never equal zero. Minor nitpick The game is meant for large screens play on tablet if possible but still works on phone.Version: 1.0.6
✓ BrilliantInside your computer/ipad/iphone is a Central Processing Unit. The closest thing your computer has to a brain. This game is cleverly teaching you some of the basic skills you need to program the CPU directly but doing it in a very clever and fun way. That probably makes it sound scary but it's actually quite fun. Try this. Play this game for a while then Google "assembly language programming" and read about what that is. ✓ Great port, great game.I’ve actually owned this game on Steam for a while, but never felt to much like playing it in the computer. This version is great to solve puzzles on the go. I’d recommend a stylus if you’re using a phone instead of a tablet though because stuff is fairly small. The game itself starts simply and quickly gets challenging. ✓ Very fun and addictingI was very surprised at how much I like this game, didn’t think a game about basic programming would be this fun. Some of the levels are deceptively simple, and some are simply deceiving.... I don’t have any programming experience so it was a challenge to think in the way needed, I’m a visual person so I find that running through the programs while building them to see what should come next helps. The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is that it’s too short, there hasn’t been any updates to add levels and there isn’t a player-built level system to build and submit new levels. Also they could have added a more challenging set of programs to complete with higher level commands, at the very least new level packs should be added, I’d be more than happy to pay for new level packs as I imagine others would as well. To master the speed and efficiency challenges you have to adopt some tricky coding practices that would be likely to be discouraged using more powerful programming languages. Then, while you're doing something entirely unrelated, perhaps hours later or even the next day, the solution will suddenly come to you in a flash of inspiration. That's what Human Resource Machine has done for me - and I can think of no higher praise. In terms of the basics (or Basic), the game offers a series of challenges to be completed with a list of basic commands. As others have mentioned, it basically boils down the principles of computer programming. If however, like me, you have no experience in programming, don't let that put you off. This is a game for fans of logic problems (with some very simple maths), and is enormously satisfying. The creepy music and corporate theme only add to its charm, and make for probably my favourite puzzle game on iOS. It's NOT for everyone, but it is excellent. If you try to use an iPhone, there’s an annoying bug where is nags you constantly to rotate away from landscape mode. Also, the support link has no support contact that I could read on the iPhone. The levels start out simple but get very challenging, plus there are optional levels and optimizations that really bend your noodle if you want to take them on. It basically teaches you how a computer CPU works at its lowest level, and how to program it at that level (assembly). This is great knowledge that even many professional programmers lack these days. ✓ Excellent game (in-depth review)This game is a very well-made game: the art is good, the animations are smooth, the music is well-made, and the challenges are excellent. Above all, this is a game for programmers. It uses a very simple programming language to allow the user to create operations to solve tasks ranging from addition to prime factorisation. This isn't for everyone, but is a wonderful challenge for those who like this sort of puzzle. The game does have a loose storyline but comes secondary to the puzzles, though is nicely incorporated into the puzzle mechanics in a few instances. ✓ Brings back the old daysI understand where Frumpy is coming from. I used to use Basic and write very basic games on my Spectrum and I get this and love it. I can't even begin to think how I'd write programs today so, it touches a special place in my heart. If I had no idea about programming, I think I would find this harder. However this is Basic very much simplified so please don't be put off. I love the fact you can run the "program" step by step to see where you have gone wrong and yes, I do go wrong. A little expensive but a great game. Maybe a trial version should be available. ✓ The best I've seenI've been a developer (3D/Games/Videofx) for 35 years as well as a computer programming teacher, and this is the best introduction I've seen so far. There are a few gameplay glitches, but as puzzle games go, this is one of the best. Regardless of their ages, kids who have an affinity for this way of thinking and are able to complete successfully all the levels should definitely get a computer (and a compiler) for XMas! You want to verify if the family « wizkid » is the real deal or just another videogame junkie? Get them this app and see if they can really walk the walk! ✓ A coder’s dream.I really enjoy this game. It is very fun and the difficulty level is amazing. It really gets you thinking. The only reason I gave it four stars is because there is no syncing between devices. Sometimes I am thinking about a level and my iPad that I play on isn’t around but I have my phone. It has some nice features on the iphone version like changing the view when in landscape and portrait to show just the coding. The music is really good and makes up for not being able to play without the sound. The levels themselves are tough but with time are achievable and then the added optimisation tasks add another level of difficulty for more advance players. ✓ A real thinkerWanna talk about a puzzle game? Do you enjoy using your brain? Look no further. A lot of "puzzle" games these days are just button pressers where the challenge comes from connecting all the same shapes in a line so that they can disappear. Not much challenge to that besides deciding whether it not you should spend money to turn off the annoying ads. I was lucky enough to buy this game on sale for $1 and I am very happy with that decision. Not only do I love this game... I also hate if for how much it pushes you to think outside of the box. At one point, I found myself doing a google search on mathematical theory. Not my proudest moment at age 26... If you a looking for a challenge that will keep you up at night thinking about possible solutions, then buy this game. If you get frustrated easily and rage quit (or dont feel like shelling out the $5) then maybe go back to the dot connectors. Also, don't worry about spending $5 and the game ending too soon. There are like 40+ levels and they start getting pretty hard by 15. Im still stuck on level 23 and to be honest I stumbled through the previous 2.
