✓ Great game, great portThe game works flawlessly, I haven't had a single issue whilst playing the game. I have had a full 50 hours gameplay out of this game, well worth the money. The textures of the screens have even been improved. There are built in cheats which are helpful in certain situations: Speed up - which makes the game run around double/triple speed. Max damage - makes all characters hit with 9999. No fighting - random fights are stopped. Constant trance - characters enter trance whenever it's their turn..Version: 1.4.9

✓ Amazing Game! Some issuesThis is an amazing game as it always has been and the addition of a speed up system is a godsent. There is some issues with crashing from overheating on the iphone 6 but it takes a couple of hours for this to happen. Also the ability to rotate the screen would be nice. ✓ Can’t playI have had this game for a couple of weeks and enjoyed going back to my childhood and playing final fantasy 9 again. However, within the last 24 hours when I have tried to open the game to play it, it crashes when I select continue. This has happened about four times now and I’m getting increasingly frustrated. Other than that, it is beautifully rendered and optimized for my phone which is an iPhone 13 Pro Max. I love the controls as they are really simple and easy to understand. ✓ Crashes StillI love this game in general, but I’m giving 4 stars because it crashes every time I try to load it. This is after they pulled it and say they fixed the issue. This is frustrating and seems to be getting worse now that I’m on disk 2. I’d like them to try again. ✓ Fantastic Port of Greatest FFThis is a fantastic port of my personal favorite Final Fantasy game of all time. There are some great options for first timers to cruise through, or if you are just looking to play for the story. My only complaints are related to playing with a control. The game pad support is spot on using a Dual Shock 4. I only wish the game could detect when you are using a game pad and get rid of all of the on screen touch controls. ✓ Excellent port of an excellent game!I have not played FF9 in several years and I am very impressed with how well this iOS version performs. I played on an iPhone 7 and this game works surprisingly well on the mobile platform. The touch screen functionality is as good as you could hope for with the UI being slightly modified for the experience. The game didn’t crash a single time during my 48 hour play through so you can tell it was optimized very nicely. The game also has a handy auto save feature every time you enter a new room which is very convenient if you need to put your phone away on a whim. However I highly recommend to still do manual saves just in case you need them. What more is there to say? ✓ Spectacular.This game is my second favorite final fantasy as of right now. The graphics were spectacular, the weapon and ability system are extremely well done, the characters were all excellent, and the ending is probably the most satisfying ending i've ever seen in a game. Coming from me that's a lot, because i have never played a game and actually felt satisfied with an ending. The only complaint i have a is a small one, the enemies move very fast. The main character models are redone with better textures and the game has new controls with a touch screen in mind. Reliving my childhood in HD is a pleasant surprise. ✓ Fantastic!Let me start off by saying I adore this game and appreciate the heck out of the fact that it's been ported to iOS. I do however, have a couple of issues with the port. Only little things, one of which I imagine they will address in time. At the sides of the screen there are two bars (I imagine these are designed to keeps the games aspect ratio in sync with the original game but these two bars provide a dead spot for the controls. If you start off with your finger (or thumb) in this bar and try to use the movement controls as per normal the character/cursor will not respond. This causes an issue for me because it happens to be where my thumb naturally resides when playing. Second thing is more of a personal preference I think, but the control scheme in the game bugs me. I liked the way the control setup was done for the FFVII port (with the small gamepad style buttons reminiscent of the PlayStation controller layout). Other than that this game is just as amazing as the first time I played it and now looks even better than ever. Definitely worth the purchase!.Version: 1.0.4

✓ A total joyI loved this game way back in the PS1 days and it’s been an absolute delight playing it again now. The characters are so charming and the story is as gut-wrenching as I remember. It works surprisingly well on a phone and because of that ease I’ve sank many hours into it! ✓ Four stars because of some changesThere’s a lot of differences between this version and the original. They shortened and cut out a lot of battle animations. The encounter rate has been lowered a lot. You can run through entire areas without getting into a fight. You’re going to have to grand dragon grind to make up for it. The battle timing feels off too. The speed up option is cool for the chocograph quest tho’. I got a robe of lords quick! Overall I liked this version. Oh yeah the directional controls are a little off. And you can’t run as soon as the screen changes. This made me miss a lot of battles in the Hunt..Version: 1.4.9

I was pleased that I did not have to buy a new copy of the game as well. All previous saved data on my ipad retained and it still works with the icloud drive upload and download of the save data. One thing that I wish for is that they had updated the back drop resolution. I’m playing on iPad and the characters look great but the backdrops look dated. ✓ Square-Enix's best iOS port yetA quick glance at the reviews of Square-Enid's other mobile ports reveal that the company's track record here isn't great. But FF IX has shown that SE is learning. The updated control scheme is responsive and appropriate for touchscreen devices. The higher resolution character models are beautiful (though as one reviewer has already mentioned, the pre-rendered environments are a blurry mess in comparison). ✓ A beautiful work of artI grew up with final fantasy and honestly, IX was my least favorite at the time (although being an FF game I thought was still incredibly good). I’m so glad I downloaded this port, which make no mistake, this is a high quality port and I experienced no crash issues at all, controls were very intuitive, and graphically the game looks like it was made for an iPhone. This rekindled my love for IX and I now feel like I can appreciate it the way I should have all those years ago. An absolute masterpiece. Please if you are an rpg fan in the slightest, download and play this game. ✓ A All Time Favorite of Mine!!!I don’t know if it’s just that I’m having an error on my iPhone 12 Pro Max with the latest iOS 14.6. But I have had a heckuva time getting it to work lately. Which is a crying shame because it is such a high replay of value like a lot of the final fantasy. Hopefully you’ll get sick soon. And sadly being at home stuck in a hospital with a free Wi-Fi or cellular data makes it hard to diagnose why it’s not working. Because I would really enjoy playing at this particular moment in my life when I’m paralyzed in a hospital bed waiting I get to the point that I could possibly walk again. Sound is fine, battles seem slick, graphics are more refined than the original. ✓ All around goodThis game has good art, good music, a good story line, and overall good game play. It’s not hard once you figure things out. Learn abilities on your equipment to negate unnecessary difficulties with monsters and bosses. For example, if you know a boss will cast flare star, then you might want to equip the ability body temperature so you don’t over heat. Similarly if you know you’re about to fight a beast, equip beast killer to do more damage. The only complaint I have is flying the airship. The controls are kinda weird for that and I had to re adjust to go the direction I wanted to go. I feel this game like most other jRPG games use a lot of Shinto religious themes. Memories are connected, no one is separate from themselves but are connected to the whole. Good experience overall..Version: 1.4.9

✓ Most Well-Ported and best 2D Final FantasyOut of all of the iOS Final Fantasy ports, Final Fantasy IX runs the best, uses the least amount of battery power, and has the best controls and that fact alone impressed me. The game itself presents a beautiful, imaginative world filled with really likable characters that further engage you. The only downside is that the combat moves a tad slower than other Final Fantasies and there is a really long camera pan animation at the beginning of battles that gets annoying. This is made up for by the good battle animations and the slightly lower frequencies of battles compared to other 2D FFs..Version: 1.4.9
✓ Brilliant game, just one problem...This is one of my favorite final fantasy games which i completed many years ago on the ps1. The character graphics are great and obviously updated, although the backgrounds now look a bit flat. The main problem i have is the battles, its so slow and choppy it makes it very hard to input any commands and im getting killed quite often because of this. It is strange because the rest of the game is very fast but as battles are a large part of this game i have had to give 3 stars. If they fix the battle speed then its definately a 5 star game but its just very frustrating at the moment. Edit: changed my review to one star as the game is unplayable on my ipad 4 due to battles not working. I contacted square who told me a few things to try which did not work so i had to contact apple for a refund. Apple refused me a refund with no explanation as to why. So unfortunately one star now. Edit no.2 i have changed my rating again because i decided to re-download this game after quite a while of not using it and it seems to be working a lot Better now. I don’t know why it isn’t an editors choice l, but if you are looking for an amazing story, great visuals, tons of hours of gameplay, and quality controls you can not go wrong here. I didn’t play this when it originally came out on console. So this was my first time through. I’m blown away by how great this was. ✓ All Time Favorite!I grew up playing this game on the PlayStation. It holds the first place position of my favorite game of all time. I love the music, the story, the graphics, the characters, the leveling system, the skills, the bestiary, etc. The app is great. ✓ Absolute classicSo much to love about this all time classic, it's charming visuals, interesting story, fantastic cast of characters, great weapon and ability system and one of the best soundtracks ever to grace a game. ✓ Pretty good port!From a performance standpoint this port is excellent! However there are a few things I’m disappointed with. The game isnt “Full” full screen. There are black borders around the game. Its not a big deal breaker but I don't see why they are there to start with. Also there isn't controller support. The touch controls are fine and serviceable but FF8HD has controller but not this? An enhancement I would have liked to see is a fast forward option. I feel the whole loading the battles and waiting to fight takes too long. It could be at least 10 seconds per battle just waiting..Version: 1.5.3

✓ Amendment to my reviewSquare actually came through. After almost a year of this game becoming unplayable due to iOS updates they finally got this wonderful masterpiece up and running again. ✓ Brilliant No issues at allI’ve completed the game twice with over 140 hours gameplay using this app absolutely nothing went wrong, ever. With the updated graphics and being able to play such a classic game wherever on the go, I much prefer playing on my iphone than dusting off the ps1 any day. its such a fantastic game its unbelievable.
