SanDisk iXpand™ Drive for Negative User Reviews

Crashes & Loses ConnectionNot sure if it’s related to the app, flash drive or my iPhone but I keep losing my connection to my drive and have to close and restart the app. Wish I knew how to stop this from happening..Version: 5.3.14

Rating iXpandIt’s a little complicated trying to figure out the whole system without having the USB C drive. I still have trouble transferring pictures off the iXpand to my laptop even with the adapter..Version: 5.3.13

When it worksIt’s pretty easy to use when it works. Very handy. There’s just no telling if I’ll luck out and be able to use it on my IPad till I try. It’s easier on the iPhone, because it never works on it any more. You plug it into the port, open the app, it does its thing for a few seconds, then shows a screen saying you need to plug it in. It worked ok on my laptop using the USB end, so maybe it’s just a really bad app, and eventually they will fix it so I won’t have to throw away the drive. At least I was able to back up the data in case it’s the drive and not the app. (And this is ignoring how my phone uses a photo format that the drive, designed to be used with the phone, cannot open. So even if you luck out and can back it up to the stick, you can’t use it.).Version: 5.3.13

Getting worse with every updateDisappointing - each update just brings more and more bugs rather than improvements or fixes for existing problems. And now, it’s stopped being able to play video completely and requires you to migrate the files elsewhere, or use another app - which basically makes this app - and the USB/drive it was made for - useless. It’s really unfortunate as this used to be an amazing app and device, and I had even recommended it to others..Version: 5.0.2

Doesn’t work for long videos on low memory phonesThere may be some customers out there who think, “this is a great idea to bypass my low available memory message on my phone and record long (large file size) videos.” If you have a iPhone which is one of the 8 GB or 16 GB, this product isn’t one you can use to record long videos. If you have a large amount of space on your phone available already for those long videos, this app will probably work great. But if you’re like me, and are trying to find a way to save large single video files straight to a computer via this flash drive, this isn’t the product for you. Even though there is an in-app camera that seems like it would do this, It still maxes off based on your phones available memory (not the flash drives). Great idea, hope to one day find a product to meet this need, because the iOS system keeps taking up way to much space on these low memory phones. 8GB and even 16GB phones doesn’t really give much room amymore..Version: 5.0.4

Not sure anymoreThis used to be a great device to transfer videos/pictures.. Unfortunately after a few months I can transfer data from phone to the device but cannot transfer data from this device to my phone.. Not sure what’s gone on here but I’ve done nothing different than before ??.Version: 5.3.9

Slow transfer ratesReview sites said it transferred at 70MB/s but it’s more like 2MB/s. Roughly one photo per second. To backup your phone would take like 2 hours if it’s 64Gb. I’m not sure if this is because of iOS11 or just the device I have purchased. Handy yes but too slow and much quicker to plug my phone into the computer without my phone battery dying while trying to back it up..Version: 4.4.6

Still garbage!Years (YEARS!!!) after writing my last review, which has conveniently been removed, this app is still garbage. Even worse, Sandisk has NEVER provided support for their iXpand Luxe to developers to incorporate into their apps. Some iOS file managers can recognize older iXpand drives without the egregious Sandisk app installed, but they never implemented that for the Luxe. Coincidentally (not!) I’ve not purchased a Sandisk drive in the 3-4 years since. My older Lightning/USB-A ones still work fine, but I wanted the Lightning/USB-C one to work in other apps. Nope, and apparently they have no intention of making it work. Don’t support this company that forces you to use their really horrible app when they could release the API to developers to make the drive really useful..Version: 5.3.14

IXpand sucks.IXpand sucks. Good for copying photos & contacts only, not files..Version: 5.3.2

So sloooooooooooooowI’ve never got this app to back up my iPhone. 52 photos in 6 hours was the best it managed before my phone went from 100% charge to 15% charge as the app needs to be open all the time for it to work. Based on my calculations I have around 2,500 hours (give or take a couple of days) left before all my photos are backed up. Looks like it will be another piece of tech I’ve owned that was a great idea, but just doesn’t deliver..Version: 4.5

Useful App But Music Names/Art Won’t LoadHello! So I have a large collection of music I would like to play, the audio files contain all the correct information such as the name, artist, album, year, etc.. Yet every time I go to the built in music player, every song is named “unknown” and when played, only shows the name and the file extension. The audio works flawlessly, though I can’t scrub through a song to skip further into it, playing audio isn’t an issue, I just would like to see my song names in the list view, my albums, and their album covers. I have each album separated by folder, in which contains a 500x500 album cover. If there were to be an update to fix this and show all my song info, this app would easily be a 5/5, thank you!!.Version: 5.3.5

Good Idea but UnreliableAn easy portable drive for iPad and iPhone is a great idea and one I’ve wanted for ages. But every time I open it up I don’t know what I'm going to get. Maybe it won’t start, maybe it won’t show photos, maybe won’t play videos, maybe it will stall, maybe it won’t load anything! The result is a frustrating experience. Very rarely is it ever a seamless and easy. Another frustration is if you are watching a video and pause for a few minutes you have to load up the app all over again and find what you were watching. I’m glad I can easily transfer my computer files and have them on the drive but I hope this app is improved with time..Version: 5.0.7

ProblemsIt’s a good flash drive, in theory, but the app used to access the files on it is seriously buggy. The “Arranging content so you don’t have to” sequence is an infuriating issue. I’ve already arranged my files, when I copied them to the flash drive! What do you need to “arrange”? Why does it take forever? Why is there no progress bar so I have an idea of how long it will take, or whether it’s just locked up? Why, after you’ve done it, do my video files link to metadata from the internet that are not actually associated with their content? In the file manager are stupid pictures of supposedly hip people that take up an enormous amount of space, instead of a clean file management interface that uses the space well. Structurally, there are other issues. The USB connector end of the drive is exposed, with no protective cap. The Lightning connector end of the drive has a teeny tiny cap, about the size of a pea, making it easy to misplace. When copying large files to the flash drive, it copies quite slowly and heats up a lot. Hoping for a next-generation version of this that addresses at least the ridiculous “Arranging content” nonsense..Version: 5.0.6

Incompatible with iPhone 15 ProDoes not detect usbc sandisk ixpand on the iPhone 15 Pro. Please fix..Version: 5.3.14

App won’t play videosI don’t recommend this app or the Sandisk apple flash drive. Much better off with the iBridge flash drive and leef app to manage files and transfer between apple and windows, also to play and view files and photos and videos. This app 100% sucks!!!!.Version: 5.3.12

Ipad pro does not recognize the USBHello, I downloaded the app on my ipad pro and then inserted the USB drive. Unfortunately, the ipad pro doesn’t recognize the USB drive as my iphone. When I insert it in my iphone, the app comes up on the screen but for ipad it doesn’t work..Version: 5.3.14

PoorTrying to transfer some PDF documents from iPhone to the iXpand drive. Unable to do this from within the app directly for some reason so instead you have to go into Files app on iPhone, find the PDF and press Share. Then, you must select share via iXpand. Unfortunately for me it says “connecting to drive” and then says “drive not found” and fails. This is despite the fact that the iXpand app itself detects the drive perfectly at the same time and allows me to transfer photos. So I can’t transfer my PDFs or small Zip files because of this error so the whole thing has been a waste of money. Very annoying.Version: 5.3.9

Confusing Set-Up with pre-installed junk .Pay attention when setting this up as the offerings are confusing and some all ready pre-loaded. On a MacBook it works like any other flash drive, drag and drop. But you need to install the app, which are drivers, before it will work. Then spend some time deleting the junk that is on it. You can if you want store a lot of different information on this. Music, Photos, Files and what not. I do not like what I consider being advertised to about other products with what this cost. I have not given mine any permissions. As I do not understand their Privacy policy. And my iPhone has 512 worth of memory..Version: 5.3.12

Gaensel - why oh why ...This device looks at the content of your devices. Before you can use it you are required to agree to terms and conditions. Which means SanDusk is going to be looking at the content of your hardware. By then it’s too late to get a refund on the drive. If you turn off the on line connection you can’t access your files! Why do they try so hard to make things complicated. It’s a digital device. I just want to save and transfer files. (Which works reasonably well but with a terrible interface and work flow) I don’t need STUFF! I don’t need an ugly interface with some strangers photo - that’s bf permanent. SanDisk ain’t that important to me!!! Not recommended....Version: 5.3.9

No longer worksI’ve had this device for maybe 3-4 years. It was so easy I would just plug it in my phone, open the app, click select and upload pictures to device after the that it gave the option to delete from phone when all where upload to the sandisk. Now, it doesn’t even recognize my phone when plugged in. It does nothing only lets me see my pictures and make a folder and now I have to check mark each date the pictures were taken. Omg I have 4K pictures on my phone. It took me an hour all that just for it not to even work. It didn’t even give the option to upload. I’m sad because this is my 2nd one I’ve purchased and loved it 10 years ago. It took 6 years to fill my first one and so I purchased this thinking it would last like the other and help clear space on my phone and I could have the pictures on a flash drive..Version: 5.3.14

Not as good as the older versionI lost my original Sandisk usb to lightning storage disk which was fantastic. The files would transfer super fast and were easy to select and find. So I replaced my disk with the newest unit which comes with this app to use. This app is so slow. Most of my files are 4k video which the old unit handled well. This doesn’t, it’s tremendously slow and keeps crashing. Very disappointed!.Version: 5.3.14

I guess I’m not the use case ...TL;DR might be fine for photo or video, but definitely needs work if you have many PDFs. I had a couple issues, and I’m not happy. 1) I have many documents (PDFs) taking up space on my iPad. I thought the iXpand with the sync feature would be great ... except it doesn’t support file back up FROM the iPad to the drive for PDFs. 2) Photo and video back up keep on failing. I don’t really know what the problem is, it just says it backed up 0 files. I see no files on my drive. I turned off the auto back up feature because it was getting tiresome. 3) What I want is for the Flash drive to look like any other file folder on the system, so I can easily copy folder trees (folders in folders with files in them) to and from the drive. It’s maddening to have to “share” selections of only files (since I can’t share a folder). 4) Why is there no support for copying a directory and sub directories with files? 5) The app took up 8GB of space for “documents”, but the docs folder was empty in the iPad files view. I ended up deleting the app and re-installing since clearing the cache did nothing. I want to make room on my iPad, not have less! 6) Some large PDF files just fail to copy ... causing the app to crash. I’m sure the app is fine if all you want to do is back up pictures of your vacation or videos of your kids, but it’s not doing anything useful for me. I just wish I could plug it into my iPad and use it like a flash drive that I plug into my laptop..Version: 5.3.8

File Name Change - Poor ExperienceWhy, why, why?????? A file transfer should leave the name and original date with the file. But this does not. Past comments online indicate this is an issue with a lot of users. Why can’t you fix this??? At the very least the date in which the picture or video was taken should stay attached when the files are loaded to the PC. The name change makes me regret I purchased this. It seems like a simple fix - give the user an option to keep the name or create a way to maintain identification without a crapload of files all with the same date. This pretty much makes the device too painful to continue using - if I could I would look for a refund!!!!!!!.Version: 5.3.9

NEEDS AN UPDATE!!!Please, please, pleaseeee! We need an update it won’t show the device in my app!!!.Version: 5.3.14

Unusable since recent app updates!Since upgrading to an iPhone 13 Mini (IOS 15.1.1) the USB Drive has become unusable. It was almost as bad with my iPhone 6S running IOS 14.8.1. If I’m lucky enough to copy images to an existing folder on the USB Drive, when I open any of my other folders they all appear blank, no images visible. I have to close app and remove Drive then reinsert Drive and launch app each time I want to copy to a folder or the app doesn’t see existing folders and images. After updating to most recent app version 5.3.12 it’s worse! Now when selecting images to copy to Drive the app doesn’t see/show existing folders to copy to. App only displays a blank screen with +create (new) folder option. The following message often appears: “iXpand Drive not found. Please attach and try again.” The app also fluctuates display of available memory on the iXpand Drive between true 112GB and false 0GB. Briefly a dependable backup drive has now deteriorated to being unusable with recent app updates. Drive probably needs reformatting but there’s no identifiable means to do this and App support seems to be deaf & dumb!.Version: 5.3.12

Truly midCan’t even open my image of craft dinner and cardboard, i’m going to send bombs.Version: 5.3.12

Use at your own riskI’m MY experience over three versions: IMHO Backup ROTS. Once backed up, Photos can no longer detect NEW, unbacked up images. The Backup function has deleted images even AFTER clicking on the DO NOT DELETE button. Forget your album hierarchy as it is NEITHER PRESERVED NOR RESTORED. I know they are aware of these problems, apparently they feel they don’t need to correct anything. Every other backup/restore software I’ve used allowed partial backup/restore, even back in the 90’s on a PC. More problematically, the user ends up with multiple copies of files backed up, regardless of whether they have been edited or not. On restore, these multiple copies are then placed on your device, iPhone and iPad in my case. I have moved to copying files in the directory structure manually. That way I save space on the iXpand drive and restoring directory structure and partial backup/restores can be more readily accomplished. Lastly, you are required to allow them access to update their software as they wish. For the years I have used their device and required software, one update was required. AND it had to be downloaded and installed manually. Worse, last update was a year ago. IMHO, they dropped the ball on this one..Version: 5.3.14

Problems, problems, potential is ... problematicThis could be great, but fails. It needs some logical user-friendly changes, and some basic updating to make it useful. For example.... there is no way to save the images onto the photo roll! That’s available on even the most basic App Store apps... but not here. Let’s just open in one of the many image apps & save from there..... Nope. Can’t do that either. It appears to do something, and pops up a message to say it is ‘copying to ////‘ - but then freezes and will require a forced quit to get out of. Some apps work, but it’s hard work, when it should be simple! So you end up with a perfectly usable thumb drive, with the ability to plug in to your iPhone - and view most images ( some simply won’t load) - but that’s it. Please update to something usable/ I’ll gladly change my review - this could be something great, but fails miserably..Version: 5.3.2

CounterproductiveI bought the iXPANDR because I have a 64GB iPhone. I didn’t think I needed more because I hardly ever took pictures or videos with my phone. Never once did I get close to needing 64GB. But I have recently been getting into taking videos with my phone and I thought it would be good to use a thumb drive to backup my videos in addition to iCloud. Now, every time I plug in the iXPANDR and use the app to backup my pictures and videos, my phone tells me I have no space. I am actually able to watch the “Other Systems Data” climb to using nearly 40GB of space while the iXPANDR app backs up my data. Eventually, my phone tells me I’m out of storage space. The app then tells me that not every thing was backed up. I basically have to restore my iPhone from backup to remove the “Other Systems Data” from my phone..Version: 5.3.12

Very very slow backupsI bought the drive to backup the photos on my iPhone X, the App has a great layout and is very easy to navigate. It guides you through the initial setup process and you can choose to automatically search for and backup new photos as soon as the drive is connected, which I did. I have 3000 photos on my phone and so far I’m in Day 2 of the backup process. It is painfully slow and at times freezes altogether. I’ve had to close it down and restart it 8 times in a day so far because it keeps freezing. There is no alert to a problem so you have to constantly check it to make sure it’s still going through the backup process. You can see thumbnails of what is being backed up so this is the only indication that it’s stopped working, it stays on the same thumbnail. The description states that it is very fast at file & photo transfers but that definitely isn’t the case here. If SanDisk could sort this out it would be a great app, I’m not backing up my iPad because I can’t wait 2 days for it to complete. If you start to use other apps you get a notification that your backup has been paused until you resume the app. So it doesn’t backup in the background either that also needs to be fixed..Version: 4.8

SlowThis is a fix to storage problems but NOT a quick fix. Error if transferring more than a handful of files. It’s a long and tedious task. If they provided info on the file you are transferring (for example if it’s just a picture or of it’s a video clip) you could make things easier by not transferring as many when you have a video in that batch and lower the amount you are transferring. But it’s just a thumbnail and if it’s pictures / videos from a while back you cannot remember if it’s a pic or video. This would be an easy fix to make things a little faster . But since I’ve bought the memory stick I’m stuck with using it and it’s super slow app . Wouldn’t recommend unless they made these fixes.Version: 5.3.13

Ixpand DriveWhat rubbish. I was really wanting this to work but it doesn’t. The device was faulty from day one so I contacted sandisk support, as the device said it was backing up but after I flattened the battery on an iPad Pro it hadn’t backup anything. a hard reset of the app got me past this problem. I than backed up my camera roll of some 2,500 photos, using 9gb of my 120 gb drive and thought the problem was solved. The next day I set the device to auto backup when the drive was inserted (the reason I bought this particular drive) it starting backing up the complete camera roll again this time using 40gb. I again contacted support I was advised the only way to fix the problem was to reinstall the firmware but it can only be done on a windows computer. Like many users of this device with its lightning connector designed for use with IOS devices, they would belong to the Mac community (not good enough for sandisk). I was advised that I could return the device within 30 days for a refund. That is where it’s going. Stay clear of this drive not only the unit problematic but the software also leaves a lot to be desired..Version: 5.0.10

Does not work with iPhone 15A great program and drive for my iPhone 12 but the drive does not support connecting to my 15 via the new usb -c. Sad, worked fantastic before. Dan.Version: 5.3.14

DisappointedI bought this device for backing up my iPhone. Everything seemed fine, the backup was flawless and quick, the ability to either use the pre created folders or giving you the ability to create new ones and even the automatic backup when connected. Everything sounds good, no? Well, not quite. I backup the photos taken with my DSLR to my phone and they have a different name than the standard IMGxxx format so I can differentiate them when I transfer them to my PC. After copying all the files from my iPhone to the IXpand, it changed the name of ALL the photos. Worse, it added a ~photo or ~video suffix to each file depending what it is. I checked on the app, but there is no option to turn that off. I checked online and it seems that it was a unilateral decision from Sandisk to change the naming convention a while ago and despite all the complaints from unhappy customers, Sandisk does not seem to listen to what the people is asking for. I guess I will keep it but backing up my phone looks like it’s going to be a very tedious job and that’s not what I was looking for. And for that, my rating is 3 out of 5..Version: 5.0.9

Works, but SLOWI got a 128GB iXpand ($AU 99) to get photos off an iPhone in an emergency situation. The transfer rate was... TWO PHOTOS PER MINUTE. This is unacceptable. I got on a chat support with Sandisk, who suggested disabling iCloud. Instead, I put the phone into Flight mode and turned off wifi. That immediately upped the data transfer to two pics per second. However the app repeatedly terminated after several hundred pics, and after several reboots, the data transfer was back to super slow rates. It is actually faster sending the pictures separately using Airdrop, which is free. The device works, but it is only suitable for sending the occasional pic. Which makes you wonder why they even bother making one with 128GB. I cannot recommend this for serious use. I classify it as crippleware..Version: 5.0.9

So much potentialThought this was the answer to my prayers however it is so slow, constantly stalls and I’ve had to delete app numerous times to restart. Not worth the money I paid. Buy a cheap one off the internet as its not going to be worse than this.Version: 5.3.13

Not worthI tried copying files and I double checked it whether it’s copied or not. It was copied but the problem is the file changed into different format and not opening anymore. Before deleting the original files double check whether your copied files opening or not..Version: 5.3.14

Don’t waste your money! It doesn’t work.I bought the device, downloaded the app, tried to copy photos - it won’t even copy a single photo. I tried and waited for so long. It didn’t work. So don’t waste your money and time..Version: 5.3.13

NOT a USB Key for iOS.I needed a device to get files off my iPhone to a USB key for a print service. However, while I can copy the file to the correct location, I can’t transfer to the USB Key because this app doesn’t support PDF. So this isn’t the same as just plugging in a USB key and copying files. It’s a needless app if they just used proper iOS APIs..Version: 5.3.14

Software interface painful, plastic casing failingI keep expecting the countless software updates to fix issues I have but no. I use my drive to copy music, video and documents to my ipad. I haven’t used it for photos but photo copying seems to be the default for the software because it continually complains that it’s not allowed access to my photos. When I copy documents it complains that it has no photo access but still copies the files across but it won’t copy videos without allowing photo access. My workaround is to copy videos at the same time as one document and that works and I just delete the document after. It is annoying though but without the workaround I would have ditched this device. And now the plastic around the lightning plug is disintegrating. The drive has not had hard use so this is quite disappointing. It was an expensive buy and has been a bit of a disappointing one..Version: 5.3.8

Complete rubbishI purchased a 128gb iXpand drive because I thought it might be useful. Now comes the day when I need to copy the music from my iPad back to my Mac and this rubbish software only lets you copy Photos, Videos, contacts and social media stuff. When you agree to the install license you basically agree to share everything with SanDisk, aah so that’s why they want you to backup your contacts and social media stuff along with photos. Useless software and wasted money, really poor for a company like this..Version: 5.3.8

New version won’t play videosI have only just bought this and I successfully played 1 movie using it. Then I did the update and not one of the videos I have will play on it. It either just crashes or I get a black screen and the am told to open Top Reel. I had to buy a converter programme because this drive doesn’t support Apple movie format which you would think it would as it’s a drive made for Apple devices. I am regretting the purchase of this as it’s hard to use and really isn’t working at all well. I would have given it zero stars if it would let me..Version: 5.0.6

Very Glitchy RecentlyThis app used to be amazing.... until it wasn't anymore. On the newer IOS versions, it has become so glitchy, constantly saying that the USB drive is not found and that I need to reconnect... sometimes I just close and reopen the app and it is fine, sometimes I have to restart my phone entirely. I used to be able to go to the photos app, and click on pictures and videos, click on share and then upload to my USB drive that way, but now it just says "drive not found, reattach" when I try to do that, even when I can open the app separately just fine. On another note, this has always been the case... when I want to upload media through the app, there is nothing indicating whether a media file is a video or a photo... which is really frustrating when I am trying to back up only videos, or specific videos; normally I'd use the length of the video to find specific ones, but I can't do that here either. I'm very disappointed, because I love SanDisk. But I guess they stopped caring about this set of products, and providing routine support and updates. And besides the note in the second paragraph, the app used to work very well. And the drive itself was and still is very amazing... but considering it needs the app to work, the app is kind of ruining it..Version: 5.3.14

Waste of 60$.Drive itself doesn’t want to work properly. App is even worse. Error message after error message. I copy like three photos, before it craps out. If you’re thinking of buying one, don’t..Version: 5.3.15

Does not support AlbumsWhile it does backup your CameraRoll it does not backup Albums or folders. So if like me you have over 6000 photos and videos in over 100 albums and folders if you ever have to restore them you loose the lot. There is no way anyone can remember what photo goes where. Also if you want to backup any other files other than photos and videos on your iCloud Drive you have to copy them first locally and then copy them to the drive, not really a solution..Version: 4.8

Why Not Make this work better??This was obviously designed back in the day when iOS was limited in it’s file management abilities, and all it was intended for was to copy photos off you device. Now with iPadOS and the improved Files app (note still not my favourite app) it is blatantly clear it needs an update. Problem 1 Can’t see it as an external drive in the Files App Problem 2 Can’t copy folders from the USB to iPad, unless, believe it or not you use a video playing app called nPlayer! This app actually sees it as an external drive. You can copy individual files, just not folders or folders within folders using the standard app Problem 3 Can’t copy folders from the iPad to the USB. You can copy individual files after you create a folder on the USB Problem 4 The UI is just horrible This could be a killer app for all of those still using an iPad with a lightning port. Please see whatever nPlayer does to recognise this as an external drive and make improvements..Version: 5.1

Latest version Feb 2023 is awfulThe previous version allowed you to select album a from your iPhone to transfer over. That option is gone and now can only select photos one by one. It's absolutely awful. You killed the functionality of the app entirely. Give me my money back for my USB, you have rendered it useless..Version: 5.3.14

HOW DO I EJECT?I am A N G R Y and frustrated that I have to ask this. Do I just pull the plug out of my iPhone and that’s it? Will files be corrupted like Windows has trained me to fear? If not, THEN PLEASE TELL ME. Somewhere? Anywhere? In the app somewhere? In the manual? On your website somewhere? What an irresponsible lack of “creative imagination” by your devs/tech-writers/product-managers to even think that someone may have this trivial concern. Thanks a lot. UPDATE: SanDisk - thank you for the response. I will raise my rating to 3 stars. Your instructions make sense, but still should be provided somewhere other than just here. Place them in the app and I will give 5 stars... for I’m otherwise happy and the drive works nicely..Version: 5.3.7

Useless half of the times - don’t waste your moneyI was very pleased when initially bought. But since about 3 iOS updates the drive is useless half of the times as the iPhone cannot identify the drive. I have asked friends and they seem to have the same problem. The troubleshooting is pointless as they cannot admit that they cannot solve the problem affecting the driver or its software. Don’t waste money and look fir a storage another alternative as this one has gone the way of the dinosaurs !.Version: 5.3.8

Missing items.I honestly don’t trust this app. Tried to back up my calendar and many items missing. Claims I have no contacts to back up at all. Instructions are not clear. If I back up photos does it remove photos from the backup that I deleted on my iPod?.Version: 5.3.12

App no longer reading usbI’ve own my usb for more than a year. It used to work just fine and even now my phone read the usb just find and as usual when i plug the usb in it will prompt me to go to the app but when i open the app and it finally load it will say plugged in your usb. So the problem it not the iphone or the usb itself since the usb works on my laptop, the problem is the app not recognizing or reading the usb even if the phone recognizes it.Version: 5.3.14

Works sometimesThe iXpand SanDisk is not consistent. It will continually ask you to insert IXpand when inserted and will not move to next step to transfer photos. When it does work it doesn’t differentiate between videos and photos on camera roll and will bug out when there is too many photos selected or videos in the mix of photos selected. So I toggled between my camera roll on phone to not select videos to make sure APP and IXpand Sandisk did not bug out and close down during downloads. I ended up transferring approx 15 photos at a time, which was very times consuming..Version: 5.3.14

What a buggy piece of garbage.Just got this very cool drive that has lightning on one end and usb c on the other. Super excited about it! But instead of just using the built in files app on the iPhone, you have to install their software. Fine. I copy a pic to it, then try to open it on my brand new iPad using the same app that had already downloaded …. Nope, doesn’t recognize it at all. Follow the troubleshooting… nope… nada… Then I see the fine print which says you should use their software with usb c… sooooooo why tell me to install it?? So I gotta remember to use this awful software on the iPhone, and then switch over to the built in Apple software on the iPad. Ok, fine. Oh, but then the next time I plug it into the phone, it doesn’t even show the new pic that I saved as a test. So I unplug it and put it back in… it doesn’t recognize the drive. Then I unplug it and put it back in AGAIN. This time the file shows up. Wow…. I can’t imagine trusting this software to back things up when it’s having such a hard time with just one file at a time!.Version: 5.3.14

Waste of time & moneyBought this as a gift for my partner so she could free up space on her devices. The flash drive doesn’t work on either of our iOS devices, PC or Mac. Followed the troubleshooting advice several times on the app for IOS and can’t even update the firmware as it can’t be detected. This is straight out of the packaging which is now going straight to the bin. Absolutely useless!.Version: 5.3.12

Issues with PDFsIn version 5.3.2 of the app running on iOS 11.3.1 iPad, there is a problem with transferring (copying, viewing, and moving) PDFs stored locally on the iPad and the iXpand drive. These include some manuals downloaded, textbooks, and printed PDFs (Google docs, Sheets etc.) of webpages. Viewing the local iXpand folder (iPad) within the iPad File app and/ or iXpand app and selecting one or more PDFs for copying to a folder created on the iXpand drive, there’s always a error message displayed “0 files successfully saved to IXpand Drive” even after multiple attempts. Printing a webpage to PDF and directly saving to the iXpand drive also fails after clicking the “Save here” button. Trying to use “More option” causes the app to abruptly crash. Self-made PDFs do not open for viewing, the app requests another program to view. Some published PDFs such as the iXpand manual downloaded from the SanDisk website will open for viewing and saving to the drive. Others do not. Adding the the step of saving the PDFs to the cloud (Google Drive) and then selecting the PDFs for transfer to the iXpand drive using “Open in” works but defeats the purpose of transferring directly between the iPad and iXpand. Please troubleshoot these issues. Thank you..Version: 5.3.2

TemperamentalThe app looks great and has a great premise but can be very temperamental! Some photos and videos don’t export over and it doesn't give me a reason why, which as you imagine is very frustrating! With some files not exporting correctly it can crash the app or make it freeze. It’s far from perfect but when it works, it works well..Version: 5.0.6

Crap appUtter rubbish app, drive doesn’t open properly, the interface is poor and only accessible when the drive is out, access the drive from the interface and you can’t get back into it unless you unplug and go through it again, doesn’t transfer files, boots up then shuts down, checked on the pc and no files, Sandisk seriously need to up their game writing a programme that works if they’re selling this as a portable space saver, I would advise against wasting your money until they can make it work.Version: 5.3.1

Useless for playing videoIt only plays mp4 and not very good. The sound turns static about 2 thirds through a movie. It does not matter which movie i use the sound always goes bad. The only way i can watch a movie on the stick is to plug in the stick, ignore ixpand app, and use a third party video app (nplayer) to open a movie directly from the stick. Sandisk have been at this for a long time should be able to write a decent app.Version: 5.3.9

Not Quite RightThe idea is good and it works ok for the most part. However why be able to store files on your iPhone within the app when you can’t access them unless you plug in the drive. If you don’t have the drive with you the files are not accessible. If instead you store those files on any other file app, they are always accessible. To me that’s a major flaw in the app..Version: 5.0.9

JunkIt’s junk- slow, constantly crashing, tedious and annoying. I do not recommend- at all..Version: 5.3.15

It’s been said all along . . .Very limited if one was interested in transferring or storing varieties of ‘files’ I.e. it only handles some specific types..Version: 5.3.8

Copying pictures from iPhone 7I needed a method of copying pictures from my iPhone to my PC. I had somewhere over 2500 pictures on the iPhone. I expected to do all the pictures in one pass. It has turned into a marathon. I have restarted the copy, skipping previously copied files, more than 50 times and still need about a hundred files. Perhaps the problem is with The phone or phone software biased to itunes. I know Apple does great software but I have always felt they have made it intentionally difficult for cross platform users like myself. I may have to go to Microsoft One Drive to get this done. The Apple Store has cooperated the best they can and it has been months with this problem. The Microsoft store says they can easily solve the problem. To be continued....Version: 5.3.1

AvoidIt was working fine, then while in the middle of an overseas holiday, it was no longer detected on IPhone and IPad. No help from customer service, except to plug into a pc for firmware update. Try and find an Internet cafe nowadays! Libraries have firewalls so unable to download, finally found a pc in a photocopy place, but the Spanish language was difficult to overcome, but upgraded the firmware and still the drive was not detected! Now have no way to download photos of holiday, and both devices and iCloud at full capacity..Version: 5.1

App crashesThe drive is a good idea and works fine as a flash drive to move files from PC to iPhone or iPad or vice versa. The app would make that process a bit simpler but it keeps crashing and doesn’t stay open long enough for me to even send feedback by the app so I have resort to leaving a poor review in the hope that Sandisk sort out the bugs. Given the cost of the flash drive I would expect better. Very disappointed. Also the drive gets very hot in use on the computer- is that meant to happen?.Version: 5.3.1

Not for large storage phonesI have a 512GB iPhone XS Max with about 355GB of photos/videos on it currently. Half of that is screenshots, and I wanted to get those screenshots off my phone. This app is taking forever to load my library, and at the time of writing, has still not successfully loaded it. I bought a 256GB iXpand for this, and now you're gonna tell me the app doesn't even work...? I might have to return it. I can't sit around for hours just waiting for it to load in the first place!!! I know it'll probably take me a full day or more to get all those screenshots off of my phone, so I need to know it'll work before I set aside a whole 24 hours for this. I'm not amused at all. EDIT: I don't use iCloud and the app has all the necessary permissions. I'm on iPhone XS Max, not 11. This developer response is worthless to me. I already mentioned my phone type, and if I used iCloud, why would I need something like this to transfer my photos? Either way, I would have mentioned it. What a poor response to my problem, THAT STILL HASN'T BEEN SOLVED!!!.Version: 5.3.6

It had a bug, it doubled my videosIt doubled each of my videos on my view files so I decided to delete one because I thought I backed it up twice or something. I only realized when it was too late when almost all of my videos disappeared, all the memories gone :(.Version: 5.3.10

Privacy ConcernsThis app and the external device it works with both appear to be bloated malware sitting on your phone, waiting to guzzle all your data. I do not feel comfortable uploading my data to the device and app at all. On your home page, you get a giant yellow ad that that is essentially impossible to remove. I didn’t purchase this product to look at your ads. When opening and uploading your files, you get an “arranging your files so you don’t have to” prompt which is extremely infuriating. The application has several data collection features that are concerning. Even if you do not opt-in, it appears they still collect some information. It is completely unacceptable. I will be returning the flash drive, deleting the app and letting people know across all social media not to purchase the flash drive nor download the app. It’s not worth it..Version: 5.3.4

Totally uselessI trust the brand Sandisk. But what can I say ? The app is useless and I dont have access to all albums from “Photos”. And of course iXpand does not have access to the IOS app “Files”. Waste of money and obviously waste of time (been trying to transfer several hundreds files in one shot, would be ridiculous if I have to do it one by one.) App has bugs too and it is too primitive giving you not much choice. Zero, Useless for 2022:(.Version: 5.3.13

Simple mistake make this app cumbersomeThe app only allows you to select 1 photo at a time. You can’t select and slide like you can on iPhone photo app. This means if you want to transfer the 1,000 files you must lift your finger each time you want to select a photo. Would be much easier if you could select the first photo then hold and scroll down to select all the photos you want to transfer. This app is only good for transferring video if you aren’t around your laptop as even the in camera recording is extremely limited. Don’t waste your money..Version: 5.3.14

I actually purchased this because I thought it was going toI purchased this because I thought it was going to even backup my apps and everything else on my phone so that I could easily factory wipe my phone and do a totally new restore of everything but then I realised that it only backup photos and music files I was looking for a better way and instead of backup everything to things like the cloud so I could just remove the flash drive from my phone or computer.Version: 5.3.15

WARNING!!! WORST IOS PRODUCT EVER! 11,000 family memories/pics lost in “IXPAND land”Sandisk, don’t bother to reply with one of your generic “fixes”. After reading the reviews, this product has caused MANY people to lose their IMPORT pictures/files and your lame “fixes” are a sad attempt to help people that you have left high and dry with this product for iOS users. I have tried all of the fixes seen online to get my phone to acknowledge the memory stick (brand new iPhone 12 pro). I feared buying a “photo memory stick” that requires an app with it to work. I should have done more research for the few memory sticks that do not require an app. I’ve now lost access to 11,000 photos of my kids adventures over the past 5 years! Thanks sandisk for such a wonderful product. My Mother is also having the same problem after being able to download without trouble the first few times. Now the phone just repeatedly asks to insert memory stick no matter how many times it’s unplugged and plugged and the app is uninstalled and reinstalled. Both phones are running up to date iOS. DO NOT USE OR ACCEPT A FREE SANDISK IXPAND EVER FOR IOS DEVICES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU MIGHT AS WELL JUST DELETE ALL OF YOUR PHOTOS INSTEAD OF TRYING TO USE ONE OF THESE, (It would be a lot less frustrating than trying to use this product on new iOS devices)..Version: 5.3.7

Accumulates Gigs of StorageDownload problems solved! Thanks! Don't know why I could download other apps but not iXpand but working now! ( previous problem On my iPhone 64 gig storage using a 128 gig iXpand it accumulated 10 gigs of iXpand cache that can only be deleted by deleting and re-installing app. With 2-128 gig storages and a new 256, I was deleting and re-installing continually until it locked me out. It asks for the phone password to verify but still remain locked out. I think the app store iXpand program is hacked.).Version: 5.3.14

Finicky Flash DriveI spent a lot of money on this 32 GB SANDISK iXpand Flash Drive. It works sometimes and right away. Other times, it just won’t work at all, or it takes hours to reset itself so it can function properly. I’m very frustrated but can’t afford to buy another one right now. SMH!.Version: 5.3.13

Could be way betterTo cut it short make it so even if it doesn’t backup my camera roll all the way, delete the photos it backed up. Because now it used more storage on my phone instead of reducing it I have 1800 photos not back up I don’t know which ones they are. So now I have to delete everything on the drive and I have no use for it. Also it fills up so quickly seemingly out of no where. Yesterday I backed up 3-4K photos. That used about 16 gigabyte. Today I start downloading the rest and I take a nap while I wait. I wake up to see it downloaded 2k photos and only had 15 gigabytes left. This is a 64 gigabyte usb drive. It should be able to handle 7.5k photos. Save thing happened with the previous one I used. It was 128 gigabytes and on my phone all the photos and videos took 90 gigabytes. Somehow it used the 38 gigabytes that should’ve been left over for god knows what..Version: 5.3.14

Crashes after a few photosUsing the backup feature the app crashes after between 5 and 150 photos have been backed up. After 100 tries I have 2000 photos left to go. But can you trust a backup app that crashes?.Version: 5.1

Absolutely the worst item I bought last year!Always shut down randomly, can't copy files for more than 2 minutes! People shouldn't buy it!.Version: 5.3.12

Do not buy this.I bought the iXpand drive in order not only to Transfer files from my iPad to a usb drive but to keep some files locked within the same iXpand drive. I sent my private and very important documents and pics to the locked folder. I kept the password carefully, but after 2 months, such folder did not accept the password, and there was no way on Earth to get help about that malfunction of the ixpand drive. I read Many other customers suffered the same problem and the only solution Offered by the manufacturers was “Delete the folder with all the contets in it, and Start all over again.” Nos, my New problem Is that i tríes to delete the app from my ipad because it was too slow to transfer files anymore, and, to my surprise, it did not to completely. Nos, i have a white square on my ipad, that i eliminate but comes back when I Turn it on again. I can’t elimínate and I can’t update it. A waste of money..Version: 5.3.12

IPhone 15 Pro Max USB C compatibilityDoes not detect usb c sandisk ixpand on the iPhone 15 pro max. Could you please fix that soon?.Version: 5.3.14

Doesn’t work on latest iPad and iOS!I bought the 64Gb USB3 version thinking that it’s Sandisk-it’ll just work. Except it didn’t. The new iPad file system doesn’t see it, the iXpand app sees that I’m plugging in a device as the iPad app auto launches but constantly prompts me to plug in the iXpand and the whole vicious circle begins. The iXpand is seen fine on Windows XP, Windows 7P, Windows10p and my hacked High Sierra Mac Pro 3.,1. It’s going back and I’ll I’ll just wait until Apple finally work out the basics of their iPad iOS like letting a drive be plugged in and used like a regular Windows computer. I heard there was a manual fix but laughed when it read you needed the download a firmware to the iXpand and install it using a Windows 10 machine. Oh Apple, you have far to come... Sort out your products for people who want more than to simply backup up their holiday selfies to a paid up iCloud account..Version: 5.3.0

Crashes too muchThis app used to be perfect & then it started acting up all the time. I love that it does what I want it to do; store photos & videos in folders that I can have named & separated. I have half of my life in this usb. But the crashing is ridiculous. Sometimes when the usb is plugged into my phone & I open the app, the app just stays at the “plug in your ixand drive” page, tho it’s clearly plugged in. I’ll take it out & put it back in but the screen stays up. I usually have to restart the app & plug in again. & sometimes while in the app selecting photos to transer or while transferring, the app will just force shutdown & I’ll have to start over with what I was doing. & lately I’ll be in the app selecting items to transer & when I go to select which folder to transer to, the folders will show up with “0 items” & I’m not able to transer them. I have tried & tried to do it over & restart the app but it keeps showing up as “0 items” please fix these irritating issues..Version: 5.3.10

Nice but a couple of drawbacksThe actual flash drive works perfectly, but the app has some things that could be made better. Basically the gist of it is that you cannot transfer folders from the ipad/iphone to the flash drive directly - you have to transfer every singe file across and then replace all the sub-folders in-app. It’s quite inconvenient and I know that it might be complicated however it would be great if you could fix this in your next update. Thanks in advance.Version: 5.3.14

Share sheet broken in 5.3.3Beware of updating to version 5.3.3: accessing the iOS share sheet now crashes the app, meaning that you can't copy most file types (other than photos, music, and videos) to other apps on your device from the iXpand. Hope they fix it soon; the iXpand drives are invaluable, but reliance on their so-so proprietary app has always been a bit of a weak spot and this latest bug is a bit of a showstopper..Version: 5.3.3

Filename change is stupidBeen using for a few years and loved it initially. Now, Sandisk decided to change the file name when files are manually copied to the drive. The file name is a very long series of random characters. No two are alike. You no longer can tell what the file name is. I asked customer support and confirm that change was by design. I can understand when 2 or more people share the same drive as some files could be overwritten when copied to another phone. Ok. I get that but why not just put the operators initials as part of the file name instead of 50 random characters. They have taken a major step backwards with this modification. Totally stupid idea. How about this, let the operator choose how to name the files as they are copied manually. If I could give 0 stars for this change then I could. This change does not warrant a 1 star..Version: 5.0.3

Poor Audio Player ControlUPDATE: Was sent a suggestion by the developer to use a secondary player called Evermusic. Seems counter intuitive to use another app when just a few upgrades would make your built-in player usable. I decided to download from iXpand to “Files” and play on VLC. Ok, got the hardware and my first issue was having to repeatedly “allow” communication to the device. Yes, ALLOW, why can’t you remember? Second, I waited 10 minutes for it to begin to sort things out initially. Figured it got stuck so I closed it. Now it works. However, the audio player was poorly designed. It has previous, play, and next buttons. That’s it. What about jump forward a minute? Fast reverse? Fast forward? The buttons are also small and hard to get to on a 5s iPhone. All the real estate is used for cover art.. which I don’t need. The time line is almost impossible to use with no idea where I am at in the file. Worst of all, the app will not remember where I last left off. I decided to transfer my files and use VLC, but why should I have to? The VLC player should be a model to go by. Not perfect, but far better than this one..Version: 5.3.4

Terrible AppThis has to be one of the worst apps for sharing data to a physical drive ever! Shuts down without warning! Stops copying photos to the drive when it feels like it! Worst £40 ever spent on the USB drive to go with this app. The drive itself is poorly designed also! No keychain attachment....well there is a tiny hole on the back of the drive which if you can get a key ring through you are a better person than me! Even if you do manage that the drive would sit on the ring rather than hang from it so would extremely awkward in you pocket or to use in general. Honestly can’t say how disappointed I am with this whole experience!!.Version: 5.0.3

5.3.8 w/iOS 14.4-UselessCrashes every time. iphone 10, 12 Pro or iPad Pro. 3 business days and still no answer from support! Meanwhile the China version w/iUSB works on everything. Great storage devices but not so good apps or support. I’m returning it!.Version: 5.3.8

Looks Ok but...Hi, Please provide some option in this app like we can review Photos/Videos before transfer to iXpand USB. Also apps is hardly to use because when i use select all to copy Videos/Photos, suddenly “Operation Failed”. Can’t use for operation for all at once. I tried 1 or 2 files(eg. Videos) then 1 was copy then suddenly “Operation Failed”. Then it go back again to screen where will to choose copy option. And waiting for ages this apps to read all files that i have on my iPhone. Please FIX and UPDATE this App coz i bought the iXpand USB for about $80 and expecting to use it. I have it for almost 2 weeks but only 4 videos i’ve transferred so far. THANKS. Update: 30/7/‘21 Also just realized that using Video Record direct using iXpand was not good. Recording outdoor was sometimes are black sometimes are bright view was recorded. I have to touch screen each time the bright and dark ambience comes in. It’s not automatically adjust the brightness on the camera. Please update to use all features on the camera. Also please and advise for instruction. Thanks again. Updates: Please fix —— Copying files always drop, “couldn’t copy, please try again”. Backing up photos/videos or data, always pop-up “couldn’t back up other items, please try again later”. Copying selected photos/videos from photo library to iXpand always drop. I have 128GB storage iXpand usb and only 31GB used..Version: 5.3.10

Very handy for certain use casesWithout a doubt, this app/device would get 5 stars were it to have modern iOS screen support (iPhone X, iPad split screen for example) and Files app capability. Imagine being able to plug in your USB stick and open a file through Files directly into Word. That would be *awesome*..Version: 4.6

IPad ProCrashes every time I try to do a Backup.Version: 5.0.10

YesApart from the rip off prices of all Apple products, the other issue is of course; memory. This is where the Sandisk iXpand Drive wins. Now we can copy all our photos/videos etc, and, music to this wonderful little chap. This frees up the little amount of memory on your Apple. Obviously your data can then be transferred or viewed on other devices, personally I always copy important data to a separate hard drive. Always a good idea anyway! I am sure that Sandisk will listen to their customers and correct the small issues that exist. I would recommend this product to my family and friends. Dr Dyeda Wheetle.Version: 4.4.3

Please update for iPhone XApp is fine for older iPhone ratios but on new phone watching movies is so small.Version: 4.5

Temperamental at bestI bought the 256Gb version for iPhone as I have a lot of mostly iPhone photos I want to back up. Firmware updated. iPhone XR I feel conned. It is glitchy. Laggy. Often times out. Frequently shuts itself down. It 100% cannot be trusted. I have wasted hours on it. I wanted to automatically back up but doesn’t work. I then resigned to manually transferring and once I select over 20 photos or so it can’t cope and sends error messages. Some people have success. My experience is the opposite and hence summise it is temperamental and in my case not fit for purpose..Version: 5.3.3

DO NOT DOWNLOADIt’s a full on scam and put my devices into lockdown mode on its own. Apple has been made aware.Version: 5.3.14

Constantly Crashes with Latest Update....I can no longer use this app on my iPad due to constant crashes. I have been trying to transfer an Excel spreadsheet from my flash drive to my iPad for the last week only to have to SanDisk app crash when I touch the send button each and every time. After which the app refuses to read any files on my flash drive. Just to see if it was only the Excel file I tried .pdf and .jpg files and had the same results when trying to transfer them. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the app several times; ensuring all other apps are completely closed; turning my iPad completely off and back on again; and making sure I am running my iPad on the latest IOS update (currently 14.0). None of this has helped. I’ve been using this program and flash drive for the last couple of years and have been very happwith it; so to have this happen is very disappointing. This company has been very solid in the products and technology they’ve provided for their customers. I am shocked by this poor quality that I am experiencing with this app since the latest update and truly hope they get this remedied ASAP. Interestingly, this app has continued to worked fine on my iPhone. The problem is with the iPad version..Version: 5.3.3

Entire sections of the app don’t workIt is impossible to copy more than one file at a time to an app. The popup menu that is supposed to allow this after selecting them is nonfunctional; any icon you click has does nothing. The developers have also systematically removed in-app functionality which would force you to copy content to other apps, but as I said, this is impossible. And after being forced to try to copy one file at a time, you have to go through several superfluous steps because it first tries to play the content (which as I said, it now rarely can), then after overriding that it will try transfer any video or document to the photo library first, assuming it doesn’t just crash or kick you back to the menu which it does more often than not. If you manage to override that, maybe it will copy the file, though the progress bar always stops at the same place so you have to manually check in the other app. Which will kick you back to opening SanDisk menu, of course. Incompetence all around..Version: 5.3.2

IXpand 3.0 Drive is buggy - but works in the endThis drive is buggy. Worked on the iPad, but not on the iPhone 7. I’m IT literate so I tried all 7 solutions. No good. But then, I put my iXpand 3.0 USB into my PC and copied my files over. I thought I’d give it one last try in my iPnone... After this action, the iXpand suddenly worked. So 3 stars, as I almost had to leave work to drop into the Apple store, and wasted time at work trying to figure this thing out, as I need my iPhone for work... Would have been 5 if it worked on the iPhone without issue..Version: 5.3.2

Doesn’t play music acceptablyJust upgraded to the new version. It is slightly better - it still doesn’t work but it gets further forward before it crashes, having failed to find more than half the music files on my SanDisk USB stick, and those it does find are random finds. It does find all of them as just untagged files, but any access to mp3 tags is way beyond it. First review: This is a really poor attempt at producing a music player. I have a 32gb stick with 4000 songs on it. They are only accessible by using the standard “files” route, or through the music player route only as a list of 4000 songs. Trying to filter them by artist, album or genre produces a varying, random selection. Such as, one artist with over 100 songs on the stick - only one is found by the music interface. Many other ridiculous errors. This looks like it was tested on half a dozen songs and worked but once the number goes up it just cannot cope..Version: 5.0.9

Needs a few improvementsThe usb device itself is very handy and quite well designed - too bad we can’t charge iPhone or iPad and use the usb simultaneously. I don’t have a wireless charging capable device, so I can’t comment on this. The app needs to be worked on. No idea why the app is taking up almost 1.5GB of my iPad storage - wasn’t it suppose to free up storage? When sorting my files, numerically named files doesn’t follow ascending or descending order properly e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4...10, 12.. becomes 1, 10, 12, 2, 3, 4... more like in order of the 1st term. Not sure if this can be fixed via software, but the device uses way too much battery (I understand the usb needs to be powered) Needs to allow multiple select when deleting files.Version: 5.3.2

HEIC ConversionFor the love of god develop a way to convert photos from HEIC to a simple JPG or PNG. Transferring apples useless HEIC format. NOTE TO USERS: if you’re going to use this app, go into your settings>camera>formats and select “Most Compatible” so that all your photos going forward don’t use this HEIC file format as when you go to open those photos from the USB drive your computer (if it’s windows) won’t open it. Waste of time and money, ended up spending hours converting 3500 photos..Version: 5.3.14

TrashTransferring files is absolutely trash can’t move file folders only bare files. Have the time it doesn’t even connect properly and boots you out and tells you to insert again.. junk! The cheap China ones are way better less restricted.Version: 5.3.14

Does not workTry numerous times to transfer photo from my phone to the drive, keep giving me operation error message. Any suggestions..Version: 5.3.10

Does what is should just slowly and needs workSeen a few reviews on here that don’t like this, for me does everything I want it too it’s just a little slow with larger files, also can’t add anything over 4 gig wich is TINY this day and age, plus I’m pretty sure certain files used to okay but after a update are no longer supported and these aren’t uncommon files either. These could be a lot better but for basic copying of smaller files it’s ok.Version: 5.3.2

Would give 5 star BUTHave 2 of these drives. Loved them at first. Not sure if it was always this way or just in the new update but the secure vault password is useless. Have an iPad, iPhone 6s that is a backup and a iPone XS. You put a password word in but you can bypass it using thumb print ID or Face ID even if you have them turned of in the security part of the settings it just asked if you want to use it where the password is and opens right up. I deleted the app from my 6S re-downloaded it and could use thumb print ID to open it right up. Didn’t even need the password. So you loose this and all anyone has to do is download the app and open it right up. Need to fix this ASAP or I will throw them away..Version: 5.3.4

Unusable, terribleI’ve had this for about a year and it has been a terrible experience. Interfacing between the stock and my iPhone 14 is next to impossible. It fails to recognize folders, loses file names, corrupts files, etc. The app constantly crashes - it will fail to recognize the stick, crash after plugging it in, crash mid-upload, crash for no reason at all. I have tried quitting the app, uninstalling the app, restarting my phone, resetting my phone. It works fine when plugged into a desktop but there’s no point if I can’t get the files on there in the first place. I’d like a refund, this stick is not even useful as a paperweight..Version: 5.3.14

Clunky with photosApp is usable, but seems to have RAM trouble when the iXpand device is used to browse a large photo library consisting of numerous .jpg and .HEIC images stored in multiple nested folders. Typical photo file sizes in my library range from 2 to 9 megabytes. Thumbnails loaded slowly, sometimes app would crash. Also would sometimes, but not always, crash when loading full screen photo view after selecting a thumbnail, or would sometimes crash when finger scrolling to the next photo. The finger scrolling itself was not smooth (like it is when scrolling through photos stored on the iPad)..Version: 5.3.14

Changing format of discAfter i changed format of my sanddisc (because before there were just 5 gigabites of free space), the app Is not working anymore with my phone and flashdisc is just flashdisk for PC. :( i tried everything from support, but nothing worked..Version: 5.3.6

HEADACHEThought it was an amazing idea at first, it was driving me crazy to transfer files (iphone>laptop)until I heard about this iXpand flash drive so I purchased it. Started all well, I was copying my photos and videos until I noticed that all my files were duplicated (ex: I copy 200 photos, then go back to that specific folder I find 400+) most of them arent supported stating “ Unsupported file” which is driving me crazy. I then try it on my laptop the quality has decreased significantly, all my videos are 200MB +; and surprisingly not even one of them reaches 100MB on my laptop. This is VERY STRESSFUL; thinking it would’ve been a solution but it became a NEW problem. I need your feedback on this ASAP, and if ANY, a solution for this situation please..Version: 5.3.14

Total headache on my new phone 😞I originally got this for my old iPhone 6 Plus because it only had 16 gigs of storage. It worked flawlessly. But just a week ago, I upgraded to the iPhone XR, and since then I have had nothing but problems with this app. Half the time it either doesn’t detect the flash drive, freezes on the loading screen and doesn’t start up, freezes mid-backup, leaving me with corrupted files out the ears, freezes or buffers when I’m going through the menus, my photo files take an eternity to load, I could go on and on. I’ve tried the troubleshooting, and still have numerous problems. I don’t know if it just doesn’t want to cooperate with my new phone, or if you guys mucked up the app with your latest update. Either way, something’s wrong. 😞.Version: 5.0.10

Simple things don’t work well.I bought the iXpand device because when I installed the app it showed up in the native files app. I thought it would let me just move arbitrary files easily from my email to the drive and visa versa. This is particularly useful for me when I’m working offsite in a factory. Instead, this app is 80% photos focused, and 20% I’m not sure about. Every time I try to copy a file from the drive to my phone it gives me an error that it cannot be added to my photos library. Duh. It is a text file. Just messing around with the app I went to my photos and it just hung for a long time. It did this several times in a row. So I disabled access to my photos, but then I could not move arbitrary files because the app could not access my photos. All I want is to be able to take files from a non network connected computer and email them from my phone, and visa versa. This app is just in the way of itself. Also the app looks like a slightly modern version of MySpace. This app needs to chill out. Ultimately, I will be able to move files around, but only with a lot of dumb pop ups and a stupid interface..Version: 5.0.3

Was better when it played all videos from the appOkay I was made to have Top Reel, an extra app. Fine. But this new app does not play video files as well as iXpand ever did since it stopped supporting certain formats. Yet these files show up in iXpand if now unsupported. If you go to play them it sends you to Top Reel which seems to crash at times! IXpand still allows you to copy all video files from the drive but where do the unsupported files that it allows you to copy go - as the files appears to copy to my device but then does not show up when you unplug the iXpand in it or Top Reel either. So there’s a disconnect there between the two associated apps! The iXpand app and Top Reel app both seem to become confused if you use an File on one app but then need to use the other - even if you have stopped playing a file - you get a message saying iXpand drive in use! Which means swiping apps away to close apps or unplugging. So if we have to have two apps - which seems a bit silly to me - can they please work together in harmony and per be developed by the same teams?.Version: 5.0.3

Used to work before updateLast used this device about 18 months ago whilst recovering from surgery to watch video files and it worked fine. Now after a second amount of surgery I find the app has been updated and surprise surprise it doesn’t work beyond playing about 1 min of video and I can’t copy files over either. Why oh why can’t you stop tinkering with something all the time - really fed up with having to deal with suppliers who are obsessed with changing a working thing into a non-working piece of junk. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it !!!!.Version: 5.0.7

Stopped working in minutesI tried to upload my photos to it but started to get an error message to try again later. Now the usb stick isn’t being picked up when I plug it in.Version: 5.3.12

File system turned to gibberishAfter selecting video transfers, I got an error and all the folders and files transformed to random Unicode ? characters. Some videos were large files, but still there is no reason that large files should error out… . Now Cannot rename or copy any of them. This iPhone app trashed the usb device into an unrecoverable pile of bytes. Thank you Apple for not allowing a simple file transfer. Instead of just connecting to any USB port like all normal people, I have to pay for an engineering wonder “dual port usb” which still fails lol.Version: 5.3.12

Glitchy App When Trying To Copy A large 4K video To The DriveI bought this drive from Apple’s website because I am a YouTuber that makes 99% of my videos using my phone. I mean, Apple’s cameras are equal to if not better than a professional’s camera. Anyways, the only way to copy anything to the drive is to use this app. I had 300+ photos that copied just fine. But when it got to the large 15GB 4K video, the progress bar stopped moving, and after 5 minutes or so ( give or take ) the app crashed and restarted. Once the app restarted and reloaded, it came up for me to plug in my drive. LOL but the drive was still plugged in! It was never disconnected. My IOS is up to date running IOS 15.5 on a iPhone 13 Pro Max. I read all of the negative reviews and just thought most of the bad reviews were user error but that’s not the case at all. This app definitely has flaws. And I don’t think Sandisk should monopolize the way you upload things to the drive either. You should be able to go to your photo app on your phone, click on more options, and then click save image/video to Sandisk iXpand Drive instead of being monopolized to using only this app..Version: 5.3.12

Will it get an update to iPhone X?Ive recently bought the usb stick (iXpand Flash Drive 3.0) and when I plug it in I downloaded this app as it asked but when I choose to back up my photos on my phone it says the stick is faulty and wanted to ask for a replacement but before i done that i tested it out with my old iPhone 6 where the app worked and backed up my photos I hope this is soon fixed/updated as I would to use this and make my work progress be much quicker also..Version: 4.5

DOES NOT WORK FOR IPHONE XThis is really the best app....up till you get an IPhone X and you’ll start having problems. The app works fine and all but you’ll realise that you can only transfer files from the USB and will not be able to transfer files from your phone onto the USB. Sandisk please make an update for the iPhone X and then you’ll officially be the best app again..Version: 4.7

Rip-offWhat a rip-off, I’ve only had this a couple of months and now the software has Blobbed out and now I’ve over 96 gig of songs, audio, and pictures/ videos sitting on a stick that can’t be used on either my iPhone or iPad and no way to reinstall the software. Don’t even think off buying one of these unless yo want to be very disappointed. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬.Version: 5.3.0

Not all I expectedAs with any new device I will need to learn all it can do. Certainly it will take my photos and store them, but I can do that in the cloud or elsewhere without this device. I wanted it to support iTunes and act as a storage device. I have not been able to do that. Perhaps I can store files from a pc and see them with my phone. I will try that later..Version: 5.0.6

BuggyTalk about buggy. For the price of this drive, and the fact it’s specifically targeted towards iOS devices, you’d think that it would be a smooth experience. It’s not. If you switch to another app for a while, then switch back to this app, it generates an error and asks that you remove and re-insert the drive. Most of the time, doing that doesn’t work. So you have to shut down the app, remove the drive, and then start again. I’ve only had it for a few hours and I’m already thinking of returning it for a refund..Version: 4.5

Doesn’t workAfter copying a fee files it will say operation failed and its sooooooo slow tooo.Version: 5.3.14

Update neededIt doesnt work with apple usbc.Version: 5.3.14

Not quite as seamless as I thought...I thought this USB was going to allow me to quickly transfer photos from my iPhone to my PC or work PCs. Unfortunately, all the files/photos that I’ve copied over remained in HEIC format and I can’t easily view them on my PC or convert them to JPG, which is annoying, even though in my iPhone settings I have selected the option to convert to JPG when transferring. This must not be supported by the Sandisk USB. :( If you just want to create a back-up, move files from iPhone to iPhone or other Apple device, it is prettying seamless, but not when transferring to Windows. I’m disappointed..Version: 5.0.10
