Pulse - Metronome & Tap Tempo for Positive User Reviews

Love this metronome!Super sleek and simple. Just what I need and nothing more. We have been suffering with a free metronome app that constantly displayed annoying distracting ads - even popping up with video ads in the middle of my daughter’s lesson- and constantly badgered us to upgrade to their premium service for $9 a week for stuff I didn’t want. How I wish I’d discovered this ap sooner. Thank you, pulse!.Version: 2.37

I use it a lotThis app is pretty useful for all kinds of musicians. The very customizable tempo helps for doing all sorts of things more easily than with a store bought metronome. I find that it is especially useful for playing fast, metal-oriented solos on guitar. However, if you plan on fine tuning your playing at normal volume and settings, it’s best to use something a bit louder later on..Version: 2.23

Apple WatchThe app itself is great. 5 stars on the iPhone. I give it only 1 star however because I think the Apple Watch implementation is a great idea, however when you move your wrist down to play guitar for example, the watch screen shuts off, and the haptics stop, and as a guitar player in a band, it is better to have a quiet haptic metronome when warming up than to have to take out headphones in order to hear the metronome. The app addresses this issue by saying to go into your watch settings and go to wake screen, but there is no option to keep the watch screen from turning off, only an option to keep it from turning on when your raise your watch. This may be a development limitation, and maybe Apple needs to make a way to keep the watch screen from going dark when using a certain app, but nonetheless the app advertises that it can give you haptic feedback to give you your tempo, and it delivers, however for many instrument players, this feature is useless because many of them lower their wrist to play, thus shutting the screen off and rendering this feature useless. Hopefully there is a workaround eventually, I really like the idea of the app, but it needs to fix this critical issue before it is given a full 5 stats from me..Version: 2.26

Simple, but effective! This app has no ads, has an easy-to-learn interface, and overall does what it says it does. Perfectly..Version: 2.37

Fantastic!Perfect app that does a single job and does it well..Version: 2.37

Haptic MetronomeI really like the ability to have haptic pulses from the metronome as it is a great way of keeping time with the subtle pulses that can be felt but not heard out load. Great app!!!.Version: 2.22

So goodI love it so much.Version: 2.37

Good but one problemThis app is amazing. It has every feature I could of hoped for. But there is one problem. Every time I close the app, the colors will change. It gets REALLY annoying. I’ve checked if there is a way to keep it from happening it there is just no way to do it. So I hope the developers will fix this problem because as I said, it’s REALLY annoying..Version: 2.37

Best metronome!I’ve probably tried every metronome online and this one is by far the best. It’s really customizable and you can have sounds, or have your phone “vibrate” (unlike a text) with the beat. You can also tap to find a beat which is really nice to tell what tempo you are at. Works even with your phone off and it’s my favourite metronome even more than a real metronome. Goes up to 300bpm so unless you’re crazy fast, this one will do..Version: 2.37

Helped me with my runI’ve been working on picking up my running cadence to 180 BPM. It’s hard to find the perfect music to this and with my best efforts I was at 176. First time I used Pulse I was able to hold 182. True I have to use it from my phone and not watch but still, it’s awesome and no ads. These guys who made it are tops in my book. Great application and easy to set up..Version: 2.35

Excellent for tempoed weight trainingThank you for making this app! I tried several metronome apps. Pulse is easy and works consistently and robustly. E.g., continues working across audio output changes, notifications, and alarms/timers. Suggestion: Allow the tempo to drop all the way to 1 beat per minute. (A beat every 20 or 30 seconds probably isn't often useful for music but it would be for weight training.).Version: 2.37

Very GoodI don’t use this app very often; however, when I do, it is a very nice to use as it has a clean interface. Sometimes I need a metronome to get a beat, after that, I am okay. I like how you can sync a tempo with another device. I also like the countdown when synced with another iPhone (if this could be done even when not synced, it would be great). I do not have an Apple Watch and therefore cannot say anything about that. ISSUES THAT I HAVE: When you first open the app, you are asked what you will use this app for, and what instrument you play. I Don’t mind this, but I don’t understand why it matters. Also if you could change this setting later. Also haptic feedback does not happen on iPhone 7. SUGGESTIONS: If you could set a separate sound for the down and upbeats, that would be nice. CONCLUSION: Very good and I would recommend it to someone who wants a metronome. Four not five stars because of the aforementioned issues and some other problems to insignificant to mention here..Version: 2.27

Great appGreat app but for some reason can’t get it to work on Apple Watch?.Version: 2.37

Practice ToolThis app has helped me improve my guitar playing over the 6 months I’ve had it!! I’ve gotten so much better at staying on tempo and even playing at faster tempos (215 bpm)!!!! I would definitely recommend this to any musicians looking to better their practice sessions and playing in the long run!!!.Version: 2.17

Timing is everythingI am delighted with my metronome, adjustable speed let’s me become confident without being rushed. Absolutely excellent; thank you!.Version: 2.37

Very good, one regretful limitationThis app is phenomenal and I love the Taptic feedback on the phone and watch. This is great if you’re going to perform and you just want to make sure you’ve got the right tempo in your head. One limitation that’s a little frustrating is that you have to go into the app’s settings to switch between sound and Taptic pulse. It would be great if there was an easy-access switch on the main screen for this feature..Version: 2.33

Simple, free, gets the job doneThe best tools are invisible, and this app is no different. If you look at the other metronome apps on the app store, you'll quickly be inundated with freemium, bloat, and *shudder* in-app purchases. Not this one. This app features a simple, no-nonsense interface that takes care of all my rhythmic needs. It's fast, frictionless, and free of any mental overhead. Life changing as a musician, I've stopped smoking, curbed my drinking, and started talking to my family again..Version: 2.37

Great app, just one issue...I love the app! It’s simple and easy to use. My only problem is with the playlists. We should have the ability to edit playlist titles, tempos, and time signatures after setting a playlist. The inability to do so makes it little inconvenient to quickly change tempos. Overall, the app makes my job as a percussion instructor a bit easier..Version: 2.35

App broken?I LOVE this app. It's simple and does exactly what I need it to do. Recently the app stopped producing sound and would only do the haptics. So I reinstalled the app and now it doesn't save the color I use nor does it do the haptics. I'm not sure if the app needs to be updated or if there's something I'm missing but I'd really like a fix for this!!.Version: 2.37

PulseThis app is phenominal. Incredibly simple to use- all the options are cleanly and stylishly displayed. I tried two other metronome apps, and both were complicated as heck. Their menus were in hidden places with useless options, and the only useful option, subdivisions, required an in-app purchase. Pulse has subdivisions built in. This app is great if you want a metronome with necessary options and no extra confusion..Version: 2.17

Good app but minor problemsI really like this app. I’m a violinist and i use it almost every day when I practice. One issue though is that when you click the little quarter note though to choose your tempo the is only the choice of a quarter note an eighth note or a sixteenth note. There is no half or dotted half not option ☹️. This is disappointing because many pieces’ are for example : Dotted half note=100 or whatever. But overall very good app!.Version: 2.26

Watch version works nowOld review: The phone version seems like exactly what I'd want from a metronome, but it doesn't work on the watch. I have a 2nd gen Apple Watch and when set to 85 it's more like 40 bpm. If you get this for the watch app you will likely be dissapointed. Edit: the developers responded, and the app works on the new series Watch now!.Version: 2.26

5starsVery very good app, I would love the haptics on the apple watch if I had a watch ;(.Version: 2.35

Love this app. Probably my favorite of all of them out thereTo all fellow musicians, if your looking for a good metronome app, this is the one. I, no joke, use it all of the time when I practice/or do homework. Is easy to use and I really like the layout of it (modern and simple). Has all advanced features as well for more complicated rhythms and time signatures which is super helpful. Get it people!.Version: 2.35

HapticsHi wanted to ask If the haptics only work on iPhone 6/6s? I have iPhone 13 and would love to use the future of this app. Many thanks..Version: 2.37

Best metronome - physical or electronicThis met is better than the one my band director uses. It’s so simple and easy to use. Two things I’d suggest are to add more subdivisions like 32nd notes, and also to include tempo words like allegro, grave, presto, etc. All in all, such a useful app. I also love that you can connect multiple devices to one! It really helps with my trombone quartet!.Version: 2.33

Perfect vibration metronome app!I found 2 vibration apps for a “click” and PULSE IS THE BEST! Perfect click! (Not shaky vibration per click). Big thanks to the developer! Feature Request… Can you make capable with other apps? Ableton link? Network midi? I’d like to be able to use AUMs clock from my iPad to my phone (pulse). This thing would be amazing if you can! Thanks!.Version: 2.37

Hugely amazing!Wonderful app, for musicians made by musicians..Version: 2.30

Excellent!!Truly amazing app for free!! Looks great and works great. Includes tap tempo. The meter and subdivision options give me everything I need. Sincere thank you to the developer..Version: 2.37

Functional. Intuitive. Elegant.Easy to use, simple parameters. A streamlined metronome to keep you honest and in time..Version: 2.37

Stripped down, elegantThis app keeps a beat just like you need it to and does nothing else. It is simple and intuitive to use as well as easy to look at with no distracting features or ads. For that, i would donate to the company myself. Features that could be nice might include the beethoven metronome presets or alternative sounds. Im fine without them, although occassionally i do require the beethoven presets and must use a different metronome. That being said, i prefer this over any when practicing to a click.Version: 2.17

Great!I see this becoming a great metronome, just now it is amazing and really easy to use. However if you try to put in a tempo like say 100 bpm when you lift off your finger it moves to 99 bpm or so. It also isn’t clear on all the features from the beginning, maybe a small tutorial from new users would be great. I use it for percussion and will use it on piano too, works really well!.Version: 2.35

Great AppJu.Version: 2.37

It’s pretty goodHi i’ve been using this for about a year now and it’s been great! The only problem i have with it is that it doesn’t allow you to do custom time signatures. I have a couple of songs that are in cut time but can’t do that because there isn’t 2/2 or a custom thing to make different time signatures. Other than that it’s great! would recommend!.Version: 2.37

The best metronome app for iPhoneThis app is fantastic! It has so many features: customizable time signatures, customizable beat colors and sounds, for both upbeats and downbeats, Bluetooth synchronization of several metronomes, haptic pulses, and my favorite, the ability to tap the screen at any beat and have the metronome pulse to that beat! Easy five stars..Version: 2.37

Good app, apple watch not goodI got this to try with apple watch, even though my watch display is set to always on the app/metronome stops when I hold my guitar Also the haptic feedback on watch is weak you can barely feel it. Maybe theres a way to increase strength but I cant figure it out. -1 star for apple watch implementation.Version: 2.37

Not the best for an orchestral musician.I professionally play cello, and my analog metronome finally broke (lol I’ve used it for 6 years now), so I got this metronome. In the beginning, it worked perfectly, but not so much for any extremely fast pieces like the Wagner Flying Dutchman Overture. Also, I think there should be some subdivision possible. I would recommend this to any starting musician, but not so much anyone with extremely fast tempos. As a final suggestion, how about an acceleration feature to act for accelerandos?.Version: 2.37

Great Metronome App, but….This app i good. It’s very simple and the design is nice. I will say that there was a slight hurdle that I had to overcome when I first got the app. When I opened the app for the first time it asked me what instrument I play. Being the Harpist that I am, I spent a little while scrolling through the list trying to find my instrument. I thought maybe I was missing it. Nope, didn’t miss it. They just don’t have a harp option… so I clicked piano instead. It was a very humbling experience. I’m not saying that this is something super important that the creators should fix immediately, but it would be nice to have the option :).Version: 2.37

Clean and easy! Use for lifting tempoI love this app. Perfect for what I need for sticking to a tempo when lifting. I set for 3 seconds up and 3 down for most lifts. Would love the option to set presets to easily toggle between 2 and 3 count on the main UI. Would easily pay 2.99 for this feature alone. Amazing app. Thanks dev!!.Version: 2.37

Sleek look, very functionalI liked this metronome a lot, it's aesthetically pleasing and does what it says it's going to do. I downloaded it because of the "haptic vibrations" feature, however, because a friend of mine has PTSD and is triggered by repetitive sounds, so she can't use a metronome. I was hoping that you could set this to only vibrate on the click instead of just when it starts and then continuing with clicks. Perhaps the developers could add this feature!.Version: 2.37

Astonishing!I usually don't bother reviewing apps but I just felt so inclined. This app is phenomenal. I absolutely love it and have spread it to all my friends who have an Apple Watch. As a music student this app is fantastic. Virtually a requirement for any musician who owns an Apple Watch. I sincerely hope to see Pulse become the gold standard for metronome apps. I use it more than my actual metronome and I greatly appreciate how you can also physically feel the beat as opposed to just hearing it. I can't wait to see how they expand and improve!.Version: 2.17

Amazing!I’m in marching band and need to practice my music. The deferent colors make it fun and the settings are easy to understand. I also love how you can change the sound of the metronome trim a tick to a cowbell to snare sticks. I’m in the precision and the snare sticks helps a lot. Also there is a clear tone change on beat one wick helps keep you from getting lost! I love this app!.Version: 2.35

Works greatGreat tool for drumming..Version: 2.15

GreatBeautiful and simple design. I like it..Version: 2.0

Great visualI love that this app is easy to see while playing. I also appreciate the ability to share the tempo with others. My one desire is that there was an easier way to advance songs on the playlist. I play keyboard and to quickly roll to the next song with no break requires quite a bit of movement, long side glances, and a dose of anxiety. If there were an update that allowed for an option to have a single button advance on the tempo screen, that would pretty much make this app perfect..Version: 2.37

Easy to useAs someone who has no musical knowledge this is so easy to use and understand..Version: 2.37

Why I love this appI love this app because I play the trumpet and it really helps me practice. When we have chair test in school which we challenge ranking players and this app really help me learn to play with the metronome. Before I had this app it was hard for me to play with the metronome when I play by myself so my teacher can see what I need to work on and that was one of them so I got this app.Version: 2.37

Wish I could change the sound for subdivisions.Great practice tool.Version: 2.37

Straightforward and loudVery easy to adjust, great visual and a good but not endless array of sounds. I use Pulse both for a quieter recorder-like instrument and with an amplifier for highland bagpipes. The Apple Watch functionality doesn’t really work for me, though if the watch’s haptics get more forceful in later generations, this could be a useful tool..Version: 2.37

Drum practiceGreat app for a drummer to stay focused on accurate tempos, while practicing techniques. Not just for beginners. The wide range of tempo settings and time signature variety makes this a very useful tool, even for the advanced percussionist. There was just one small humorous glitch in the questions after opening the app. The “bot” asked “what instruments are played?” I had to check vocalist in order to get out of the menu. Seriously, they did not include percussion as a choice? Shame on you!.Version: 2.21

Overall a decent appIt would be good If both audio and haptics could be enabled at the same time..Version: 2.37

Awesome!Knew almost instantly this would be my go to for bpm finding and metronome. Looks great, easy to run, tempo find is accessible from the main screen and I love the meaningful aesthetic tweak options. Instantly knew this would be my go-to after trying it. Please keep this updated! I'd love to keep using this as time goes on. Even if there's a 'unlock all customization for $2.99 or something for dev costs. I'd be happy to support. Thanks again for an awesome app!.Version: 2.37

PulseThis app is awesome! It has an up/down beat for the meter I needed (of course not all the meters it offered, but the basic one). However, since I realize that I am playing wrong... for example, I am playing at the 3rd beat of a measure and then realized the Pulse app it beats on the 2nd beat of 3/3, it was a bit annoying for me. I hope you can kind of having an idea for what I wrote, or you may download it then try on..Version: 2.37

Heaps of potential from clearly talented designersI jus wish this app had an onboarding - or a clear and simple single screen of instructions. The design is so minimalist that I find myself never able to do what I want. I open it up, start a beat accidentally, then I close the app and the beat doesn’t stop. Good feature - but why, when I come back into the app, is there not a simple “stop” icon anywhere on the interface? Also some guidance on how to change from “metronome” mode to “tapping to see how many BPM” mode. I know the app does both but I can’t reliably switch..Version: 2.33

Simple, quick, elegant, easy to use metronomeI have used many metronome apps that are complicated with unnecessary features, but Pulse is so simple and easy to use. When you're in the middle of practice or teaching in a lesson, you just want an app that is simple, easy to use, and does the job well, and that is exactly what Pulse is. Good job guys!.Version: 1.2

How awesome this app isThis app is awesome you can do it for any instrument and when you want a metronome number you can just put it in there and it sounds the way you should want it. You can also change the metronomes color on whatever you want..Version: 2.37

Excellent app! This is a very simple and effective metronome. Easy to use and does everything you need it to..Version: 2.35

Haptics are greatI use this at gigs with my iPhone in my pocket, to help me may least start the songs at the correct tempo. If I concentrate the phone haptics are enough to sense the tempo. Any chance of an update to sync this to a mac? ie. I run mainstage for lyrics/chords and other sounds, if I could set the app to sync to mainstage’s midi clock I could just leave my phone in my pocket the whole time..Version: 2.37

Works exactly as advertised.I’m a beginner-intermediate guitarist. i know my pentatonics and handful of punk songs. now that you know my skill level, let’s get into the review. this is perfect. you can set the time signature, the click sound (or haptic if you prefer that), how many clicks per beat, and the color for up- and down-beats separately. it also works seamlessly whether or not you have the app open. i can connect my phone to my amp, start Pulse, pull up a tab in ultimate guitar, and have the metronome sound coming out of my amp speakers the whole time i’m practicing the song. also good if you’re trying to figure out something by ear. if you tap your screen in time with the kick drum, Pulse will set the metronome to that tempo, so once you figure out the notes you have the speed reference w/o hearing the rest of the band. bottom line: i would absolutely recommend this app..Version: 2.37

PulseThis app was amazing I was a piano teacher and all my students were out of time but when u started using pulse with them they all became perfectly in-time and the rhythm got stuck in their head!!!.Version: 2.37

What a great app 😁!!!What a great app! I love this app and it is such a great use the personalization and different options for tempo time signature and even click sounds along with the colors. It is truly one of the best metronomes to use and I’ve always had a hard time finding a good one! I highly recommend you use this app.Version: 2.37

Brilliant appSimple, clean, exactly what I needed. Thank you ;).Version: 2.37

NoiceBeen using for five minutes and found out it was really awesome hundred percent download this.Version: 2.37

Beautiful SimplicityA gorgeous metronome that easily lets me set a bpm and just go. No overly confusing interface or weird dials. Just set the speed and go. One suggestion I’d have, however, is due to the only way to change the bpm is through the circle, fine tuning it can be tedious at times. As in from 101 bpm, to 100 bpm for example. A simple ability to tap the right side of the screen to make it go up one and the left to go down instead of setting the tempo through tap would be a nice option available. Incredible app none the less.Version: 2.29

DesignI adore the sleek design! I hate having to look at overly complicated metronome screens while practicing..Version: 2.37
