✓ Not very matureI spent hours setting this up as a home server and while the admin documentation is detailed, Nextcloud is not as good as just using an SFTP server. The problem is switching between local and remote network access and the problems associated with address resolution in the home environment. Connecting within the LAN and then later from the WAN yields unpleasant results with unsynchronised caching. Nextcloud presents itself as an opportunity to host your own cloud service but Its clear they’re aiming for enterprise implementation. The app is really only a portal for file transfer and nothing else. But even then, opening documents is hit and miss. Quite often after it opens a document, there is no way of backing out without quitting and reopening the app. Setting up a home Nextcloud server was an interesting experience in hardening the server’s backend but using Nextcloud itself was a let down..Version: 4.0.6

✓ Good app, but PLEASE fix file listingI love the concept of Nextcloud and this is a really good app. But the way the file list is implemented makes it almost unusable. On my iPad, the file listing window is fixed width and any file names over ~20 chars are shortened. On my iPhone it’s more like ~30 characters. I have a large directory of videos and other files and without seeing the full file names I don’t know what most of them are. On iPad, maybe you could allow the preview window to be minimized so the file list extends the full width of the screen. Or maybe you could display the file names as crawls instead of shortening them..Version: 2.25.9

Kind of the point of storing in the cloud isn’t it? Nextcloud has potential to be a great as a replacement for Dropbox but it’s next to useless with iOS. ✓ Another apple icloud destroyed FOSS competitorThis was a great app, but it won’t let any files remain downloaded for offline use more than 30 days, or so. Using mobile data while traveling and syncing critical files have left me gasping when none of my data center files that spent weeks at hotspots, Internet cafes, dial up, tethered and data capped priority data in regions that even have cell towers.. running off solar, in remote environments.. this app has performed well except on any apple device which intentionally c*ockblovks any competition from invading the bloated and restrictive Apple data sphere. It’s the only reason that I can see why this app will not work.. Apple doesn’t like competition, or direct confrontation.. silently making people’s digital lives worse with infuriatingly ridiculous nuances of oppressive big tech attempting to support everyone on the diverse brochure, except anyone that’s not part of the overlord cult of Apple. Shame, this app did work well before it became an apparent threat to Apple’s cloud storage scheme.Version: 4.8.0

✓ Good, not great.This app connects an iOS device with your NextCloud files. This a good thing. It was free. I like free. But the App could be better. A large number of media files causes the media browser to become sluggish and jerky, even on an iPad Pro. Suggests the thumbnails are not being cached and managed well in the app.. Not sure why the media view not using standard iOS UICollectionView. So we see a silly circular scroll bar. Please developers, don’t mess with stuff that is already working fine. There is a feature to password lock a folder. Presumably for sensitive information. But the media view ignores this and gleefully shows all media, even stuff in the locked folders, making the feature pointless. Video files don’t seem to download or stream at all, unless marked for offline viewing. Paging through images by swiping is supported. But if you swipe to an image has not yet been cached, it is presented as an entirely blank screen. No placeholder. Nothing. Just a white void. There are a couple of odd semantic choices. There are two hamburger menu items. One to control sorting, the other has settings. But is labelled “More”. Think this app could be good, just needs a bit more work..Version: 2.23.3
✓ Does not work, no photo upload to cloud, error 413The current version of the iOS client does not work as it is unable to upload any photos to your cloud. And therfore renders the whole application useless as it does not provide any sync with your cloud. Whilst uploads and sync on any other platform work flawlessly on iOS is utter useless. It always displays error 413 and lots of complains on the nextcloud developer page but the company does not give a dime and has no interest in fixing this issue for months now. Therefore I can not recommend the use of any Nextcloud product, it is not a reliable product to trust your data with..Version: 2.23.2
✓ Can’t read or edit .txt files in 3.x versionText file reading and editing seems to be broken, text content is clipped when scrolling, when editing cursor and selection is invisible, such a basic feature of dealing with simple plain text files got broken in version 3..Version: 3.0.2
✓ So close to being a great appTried to use Nextcloud to replace Apple for storing my iPhone photos. As much as I wanted this to work, in the end hundreds of photos didn’t show up in the app album which makes it pointless. The photos were on the server, I had tried rescanning folders, regenerating photo previews, disabling cache in the app and played with all different settings but it was hit or miss which photos would display in the app when viewing the media gallery. Some days I would notice a chunk of photos would be in the media folder, later on in the day they wouldn’t be there and another chunk of photos would appear. In the end I had to admit defeat and go back to the Apple subscription which works brilliantly but I would of preferred to use Nextcloud.Version: 3.1.0

✓ Too complex, can't figure out how to even beginAll I want to do is set up an external hard drive as a local server, then provide several accounts to family members. It appears that I have to subscribe to a hosting service (a <10GB limit - what a joke!) or buy a $600+ NAS with a decent amount of storage, but nothing for the home user whose only experience is 30+ years on Macs. I reviewed the user docs and FAQs and whatever I could find on the dev site, but nothing helped a bit. ✓ No option to delete unused local files like ownCloud app hasTitle. Within a week this app had made my phone completely unusable due to constantly keeping everything downloaded to my phone. The whole point of a cloud server is for me to be able to view documents and pictures then have them removed from my phone when not in use. The ownCloud app was great and you could set how long documents stayed on your phone after you stopped using them. This app had no feature like that and it should really be added back..Version: 3.4.2

✓ Long time unresolved issuesThe development on this app has stagnated a bit. There are obvious issues and oversights. The app still lacks the ability for other apps to create Folder Bookmarks to Nextcloud directories, and automation through Shortcuts is still non existent. Also, a more common annoyance: some time in the last few months there was an update that makes it so every time I open the app it stops my audio playback. I've submitted these as issues when they first arose, but I don't think iOS is of high priority to the developer. If you're not already established on Nextcloud I'd recommend continuing to look for an alternative..Version: 3.4.2

✓ No syncingThe built-in PDF reader has zero editing capabilities (no highlighting, no comment or any other sort of annotation). When I try to perform those actions in an external PDF editor (one that actually lets me change a PDF), I can't find a way to let the NextCloud app know that the PDF file changed and needs to be synced... ✓ Incapable of handling Network Traffic02 Nov 2023 In the end, the primary issue that led to the deletion of my account were the constant messages the “App and Website (Tab) could not complete tasks due to high network traffic”. I could not even begin to make changes to my profile and settings without the error message appearing with every attempted character input … yes character, not words or phrases. The iPadOS application would not log me in because it could not find my account via the URL it was requesting. In the end, I found that Nextcloud and all of it’s apps to be hopelessly deadlocked and unable to provide any service at all. It is definitely not something I would trust. All of Nextcloud needs to be revamped and improved. Given some of the reviews being very positive, I thought this might be a good solution. Instead it was a huge disappointment and mistake. ✓ Save downloads without favouritingThis app isn't very intuitive. Once you tap to download a file, the file icon indicates a count. So intuitively you click on the file icon... your back to the root folder! To actually view your file it's a series of menus and guesses. Then after a while the file isn't there anymore! The only way to save a file for later seems to be favouriting. The open-with function doesn't seem to work (with documents 5 or Evernote) which would alleviate this problem. There is mention of audio files working in iTunes but I couldn't figure out how..Version: 2.17.3
✓ Great when it worksThe latest version is very slow to open documents/images. It shows loading screen for 3-4 mins before opening the file ( the file is only couple hundred kb) The app was running fine until few days ago but started getting request timeouts for everything I do after I upgraded the disk to a 1tb drive. The web interface weeks perfectly fine it's just the app. I have the same issue from my wife's phone as well. ✓ Broken for agesTry to load a folder with over 500 images, you start getting loading issues. Some stuff won’t show up, folders won’t appear. It’s been a problem forever with no fix in sight. Try to upload several files from your phone to back up, upload will only upload 1 file and won’t upload the rest. ✓ Horrific scanning experienceUsed to be amazing, but it’s now a bloated and buggy mess. Tried to scan a set of four documents at least a dozen times each but ran into countless bugs. Couldn’t get the rotation to save. Had to clear the scan cache or it would choose old images even if I clicked on newer ones. It would let me rotate the images individually before saving but then the final saved pdf (why remove jpg as destination file format???) would not use the correct rotation. The client thought I was going to have a heart attack watching me fight with the app just to save a single file. It was as if nothing worked correctly and only pretended to do so. ✓ UnreliableTL;DR Nextcloud is an open-source self-hostable Google Drive replacement but the iOS app will occasionally lose your data (see below), crash and forcibly log you out. This app is not ready for enterprise use. Pros: * Self-hostable cloud storage with all the niceties of Google Drive. * Able to modify OpenOffice documents if your server is using Collabora Online, and without Collabora, able to modify TXT and Markdown documents. Cons: * App crashes when playing back video which has not yet downloaded. * If you phone runs out of storage you will be forcefully logged out of the app. * Updates are occasionally pushed which forcibly log you out of the app from all accounts. Servers whose certificates were manually verified will need to be re-verified. * Changes to TXT documents will occasionally silently fail to save causing changes to be lost..Version: 4.4.4

I cannot rely on this product until it’s reliable, and right now, it’s not. ✓ Freezes up every single timeOn small folders with only a few images to a large directory with hundreds of pics, the app continually freezes and needs to be force-reopened. ✓ Frustrating with other usersThis application is miserable to use when managing users. It has an overly generous cache with no way to limit it. So you’ll find yourself with having 20GB of phone storage taken up one day. Do I really have to keep telling users to pay attention to their cache?? Also it seems at random times the app will decide to forget photo sync settings and screw everything up. It’ll be disabled and then you have to go and remember every change you made for every user. Now there’s gigs of photos in all the wrong places thanks to this app forgetting user settings.Version: 4.4.3
✓ Totally awfulDownloaded this worthless junk and tried to upload my data to get an error message but when checking the data was trying to upload, which has now locked my account.
