Collins British Bird Guide for Positive User Reviews

BrilliantWhat an absolutely beautiful & stunning app. I'm no Twitcher but I shall be using this when I can. Well worth the price for all the information it provides, the pictures, sketches, text, birdsong audio & your own Twitcher Log(s). Search function is very easy & intuitive to use. An absolute must for anyone either remotely or keenly interested in Birds..Version: 1.0.0

Update has errorsThe recent update (for which an additional charge was made) seems to have numerous bugs and errors compared to the previous version. Hopefully these will be fixed; it may be helpful to give an option in the app for providing feedback. An example is the picture of the heron- initially it only had one image (previous app had about five of six), this is now corrected but it is now incorrectly titled ‘White Stork’ ! The new version has clearly not been properly checked and for now it is a retrograde step- annoying as I have now paid for the ‘upgrade’ and cannot go back to the previous version! Still basically a good app though..Version: 2.1.2

First rate appReturning to birding in the UK after 20+ years, I wondered if I would need to dig out my old guidebooks, or if there was a suitable app to do the job. Well, this app certainly does and more besides. As well as the excellent plates and descriptions found in the books, this includes a variety of calls and songs, the ability to directly compare common ‘confusion species’ and access to a comprehensive library of video clips (the latter for a few quid more, but well worth it in my opinion). For me, this is the ultimate modern British birding guide for anyone in the novice to serious amateur bracket..Version: 1.2.1

Good... but where are the rest of the RedpollsFor some reason this guide only has the Mealy Redpoll and not the Common or Lesser Redpolls, which are residents .....Version: 1.2.8

Good interfaceThe long scrolling and filtering interface are very good ways to view the birds and find what you are looking for: much easier than tapping back and forth through pages like an ebook. Other reviews mention missing birds: Redpolls: from my searching the Mealy is the Common. The Lesser doesn’t have a separate entry but is included in the Mealy’s entry. Wagtails: the White and Pied are sub-species and both are covered in the White’s entry. You can also fix this by changing the app’s language in its settings: use ‘English’ instead of British English’. This doesn’t make sense but entry names change, eg, to White / Pied Wagtail and (Common) Redpoll. This is a good app that focuses on birds common to Britain, which make it quicker to use as it omits birds that are uncommon and mostly found in Europe. I think this is a selection from the bigger Collins app, and all the more useful when out-and-about. It’s good on iPhone and better on iPad, looking forward to using it on my new M1 Mac..Version: 1.2.9

No Syncing iPhone to iPadI am enjoying using the app with my little grandson. We easily made our first list on my iPhone but I later noticed it had not synced to my iPad. Is there anyway of doing that? It would be a great help. Also sharing my list with my wife for her app would be good. Its a great app for the price..Version: 1.2.10

Excellent app but some quite common birds missingI love this app, it’s well thought out and easy to use. Sadly however there are some birds missing that I have seen recently and no option in the notes to “free type” their details. Well worth getting though if you are learning like me!.Version: 1.2.1

LanguagesThis is a great app. Love the multi-lingual name lists but why does it not include Welsh (or Irish, Gallic, Cornish, isle of mannish?) ??.Version: 1.2.10

MrI purchased this app as I was looking for something decent to identify the various birds that frequent my garden and bird feeders. I find it very intuitive to use and like the line drawings of the birds, which include male, female and juvenile in both summer and winter plumage. Most include a song/call of the bird you are currently viewing. My brother-in-law is a serious 'twitcher' and reckons this app is as good as he has seen for the money and will be recommending it. 5 stars from me!.Version: 1.0.0

Great UK Birds appJust what you need, with data taken from the best selling Bird Guide but concentrated on Bristish Birds only. Easy to use when out walking or at home. The recorded calls and songs are a delightful extra..Version: 1.2.2

A comprehensive guideHaving this on my phone means I always have a comprehensive field guide with me. It is easy to use and covers 99% of the birds you are likely to come across in the uk. The descriptions of the birds are good, with the added bonus of breeding and wintering maps, a general habitat guide and most helpfully a songs and calls recording. To make it more user friendly the search function could make suggestions after the first characters entered but otherwise a great app and well worth the money..Version: 1.2.1
