Brian Eno : Reflection for Positive User Reviews

WonderfulThis is how, I imagine, he intended his pieces to be heard. Previously limited to LP/CD format lengths, this format allows us to hear the piece evolve and change over time. Every time..Version: 1.0

Just what I neededVery good if you like Eno. I’m toying with buying the Apple HomePod and wonder if anyone has managed to run this generative app there somehow, to run throughout the day without streaming from an iphone?.Version: 1.3

Unlimited app[lications]Simply fantastic. This app is an art piece, generating random musical composition that defies category. Is it ambient music? Certainly not “New Age“ due to the depth of sonic expression and genuine creativity engaged. Great for a bath with candles, a massage therapy session, just taking some time to space out, sleep aid… Virtually unlimited possibilities with this and all of Brian‘s apps. Splendid work, thank you. Worth the expense, not least of all because you can use it for years and years, just as I have with Bloom..Version: 1.3

Sonic ArchitectureI have been going back and forth for the longest time whether to buy this since I have the CD. So today I decided to buy this, and after 3 hours, I have no regrets. I agree with the other reviewers - I would not call this an app. Between the music and visuals it’s more like sonic architecture. I really hope Eno and Chilvers do more of these..Version: 1.3

What an experience! Some of the music played is so beautiful, yet it’s also ephemeral. It comes in, grabs me, then is gone forever. On the practical side they added a sleep timer..Version: 1.3

SonosNeed to be able to connect to Sonos.Version: 1.0

BeautifulReflection is beautiful and has given me years of enjoyment. Now I wish very much that the developers would return to it and adapt it to Spatial Audio..Version: 1.3

Reflection app + Apple TV + 5.1 = heavenThis app is as good at being Eno as Eno is. I wish all of his other ambient works were also available in generative app editions..Version: 1.0

Audio Warm Fuzzy BlanketThe best of zen, solfeggio, Tibetan and ambient in an ever changing sound and artscape. Rarely can an app be called a true work of art. This is one. A groundbreaking app masterpiece evolving the very nature of art further into the digital world. Phat Bravo.Version: 1.3

The falling asleep app I’ve settled onI enjoy falling asleep to white noise, music, etc., And I have tried a lot of apps with good success on quite a few. I balked at the price for this one at first, but it has become the one that never gets old for me. I really hope that they Will make it available as an Apple Watch app so I can use it even when my phone isn’t nearby..Version: 1.3

Amazing work of artAmazing work of art which is totally worth the price. I listen to it often, sometimes for hours in the background, and it always puts me in a relaxed and creative mood. I also love how the music changes subtly with the seasons. Thank you for creating it!.Version: 1.3

A rarefied experienceThis “thing” (i.e. I shan’t call it a mere App) returns one to one’s quiet center. If there’s anything more important than that, I haven’t yet discovered it in my 62 years here. Is it worth the $’s? Is there anything else one values more than slipping away from the perceptual world? When one recognizes these two questions are the same, one will have reached a decision on whether or not to purchase..Version: 1.3

CreativityI have been using this app for nearly a year now and it’s proved to be superb as a backdrop to creative writing, reading and just general relaxing. I don’t know how Mr Eno has managed it but I never tire of it: sometimes keeping it on all day for days at a time. Amazing. Love the seasonal updates too. Thoroughly recommended..Version: 1.3

Pricey and spaceyWhile the pricing reflects Eno's unfortunate turn to the mercenary over the last decade or so, the music is beautiful and considerably more complex than in some of his other generative works. That complexity holds up to long sessions of listening and perhaps that is the way to make the price more palatable -- on a per-minute basis it's almost free!.Version: 1.0

Great AppI’ve really enjoyed this and have been using it at work for stress relief. My app is still showing winter on start up? Looking forward to the summer update.Version: 1.3

Works on iPad 2To start of this works on my iPad 2, at first I thought it wasn't compatible but it works! I'm am a pretty big eno fan . Although pricey this app is awesome. I'd say it sounds similar to the first two tracks of " the ship" , but there are no weird voices or speech. I found some of the voice segments in the ship to be slightly disturbing to fall asleep too. I like reflection a whole lot more and have listened to the app for about 25 hours awake I'd say, it's easy to fall asleep to! It has an almost somber like feel to it like "lux" or "small craft on a milk sea" , but it does not make you feel sad in any way. It sort of feels impartial or neutral I'd say and doesn't change the mood I'm in, it just allows me to think. As far as it changing continuously you need to have the app running for a long time like hours at a time to hear differences. my theory is the generative programs kind of start over each time you open and close it, because it doesn't run off wifi/ internet. Pause the program instead of closing it to keep it going. (Also runs in the background of other apps) I've compared it to the 54 min album version and overall the differences I can notice are more "bell" like "gong" type sounds and different intervals mixing and changing on top of the droning swell notes. There are moments when it almost shifts into a major key or more feel good vibe, but remains primarily neutral. From what I've read this will change throughout the year so I am excited to see how it will evolve with the changing seasons. Also the visuals are quite nice, I've started playing a memory game where I glance at the screen every 15 minutes or so and try to remember the colors and shapes of the screen while I'm doing other tasks. I come back to it and it's changed!.Version: 1.0

AwesomeWorth each and every penny of the £29.99 Beautiful evolving sounds. I have even been experimenting by running the app on my iPhone and iPad simultaneously with two separate speakers. Sitting in the middle it melts your mind. Amazing stuff thank you.Version: 1.1

Just calling it an app is akin to saying Falling Water is just a building. It’s a brilliant app - but really to call it an app is to miss the point, it is an experience of a rare kind, delivered on an iOS device. A contemplative audio visual experience on demand. I rely on the audio during my NYC commute - a pool of calm in a sea of utter chaos. Some evenings l will stream it on my Apple TV- I have a quality screen and sound system so the image / sound becomes a beautiful live artwork- I actually like to keep the volume rather low (if your sound system is up to it) not just below audible, wink wink nudge nudge but low, it’s beautiful. Really..Version: 1.3

The magnum opus of ambient musicProcedurally generated ambient music that runs continuously is one thing; emergent dynamic art another. Eno's work here is beautifyl and haunting, utterly machine and code and titanium yet all heart and humanity. It is the first purchase of software I have ever made that fall in the art category. Humble, brilliant, immediate. I woudl argue that this is the most important experimental musical app ever created. I spit out my coffee on my keyboard when I saw that only one review of this so far..Version: 1.2

Seasons?I am enjoying this app quite a bit, but unsure of when the seasons switch. It is, after all, not summer where I am..Version: 1.3

Science fiction soundscapeThis is beautiful on my Apple TV and home sound system. It fills my house with a gentle, surprising and relaxing soundscape. I listen to this for hours..Version: 1.1

Love music...The generative music sounds fantastic. Perfect music for reading or doing the tax. Although I'm worried the graphics may cause 'burn in' on the TV screen. Maybe the developer could add some movement to stop this? Would also be amazing for the AppleTV version to utilise surround sound to give a more immersive experience....Version: 1.0.2

Magic AppWonderful little app. The endless and forever changing ambient music is really magical. The option to play via the Sonos system app without a physical cord connection would be a very welcomed addition. Cheers, ||||||||K.Version: 1.0.2

Money well spent.I was a little apprehensive at first dropping £30 on this app but I had used other Brian Eno / Peter Chilvers apps before and they were great and importantly updated over time to keep them working with IOS updates etc. I still use Bloom a lot for creating hypnotic patterns. Listening to Bloom is good, but this app feels so much more sophisticated as a music generator. It really feels like someone is there making the music! Perfect for listening anytime of the day and wonderful to sleep to. I often play Sounds of the Lid to drift off to sleep but this app has recently taken their place. Ambient music on tap! Money well spent. UPDATE: One small annoyance I've found from using the app over time is the timer controls are too close to the bottom of the screen and are very difficult to control. Not sure if this is just because I'm on an iPhone 11pro. They just need lifting further up into the screen as there is plenty of free space. Still an amazing app that I use almost every day! UPDATE 2: Still using the app pretty much every day! Been a life saver for relaxing during the past year of craziness!.Version: 1.3

A great artwork......not just an app. This makes no pretence of “interactivity” Instead it generates a constantly evolving composition, which is certain to be enjoyed by people who enjoyed the ‘Music for Installations’ album or the eponymous one you can hear on Spotify. If you want a new version of those every time you listen, then this app is for you. The price seems steep by comparison to many apps, but they don’t have infinite boundaries. And if you’ve ever paid thirty quid (or more) to see an electronica artist ‘play’ music off their laptop, then imagine if that ticket got you the artist playing forever in your own home....Version: 1.3

XanaduIn London an endless pleasure dome. I have been listening to Mr. Eno since the 1970's. I know this may be too much information, but I have spent days, months, years being taken into the ethereal by his creations. If you wish to slip into somnolent bliss this app will carry you off, and "you will find strength in what remains behind". "That with music loud and long, I would build that dome in air, That sunny dome! those caves of ice!" Mr. Eno you are a genius. JEM.Version: 1.1

Very nice (if expensive)This is the generative edition of 'Reflection' and it sounds very nice indeed (if you're an Eno fan). I like the idea of music you can just leave alone if you wish to or give it your attention if you so desire. Reading back through an interview Eno gave for a Compact Disc magazine in 1986, around the time 'Thursday Afternoon' was released, Brian Eno mentioned that in the future he hoped to be able to create pieces that effectively had no beginning or end with no time restrictions placed by the limitations of CD. Thirty years later, it's finally a reality. Only one negative - the price. Goodness me, we've come along way since the (relatively recent days) of Bloom..Version: 1.0

Another beautiful piece from the masterThis app generates a beautiful, contemplative soundscape..Version: 1.0

Best of the ambient soundscape appsThere are other Eno apps; this is by far the best one for simply listening to. This one is not interactive like the others, but it is the one that is actually worth listening to. There is also an “album” version of this available on iTunes. It’s essentially a CD’s length recording of this app playing. You can buy the album at a lower cost than the app. If you have an Apple Music subscription, you can just listen to the album for free. The difference is the recording is the same every time, while the app is more organic and never the same, though the vibe is pretty much the same as the album version. If you want the organic experience, get the app. If you just want an hour of the same ambient song every time you listen to it, get the album. Bottom line, this is really great meditative and relaxing ambient music. I find it very fitting for before bedtime stretching and chill out. The only negative thing I have to say about this app is the visuals displayed during the music are pretty bad. But, thankfully, it lets you continue play in the background so you can look at whatever you like. Here’s what’s very cool about this app (and album): you can play it on multiple devices at the same time throughout your home, or even in the same room, and regardless of when you start the app on each device, it blends in perfectly with with the sounds coming from the other device. Try it. Simply amazing. I’ll have it on the Apple TV in the living room, my Bluetooth speaker in the bedroom, and even right from the speakers on my phone in the bathroom, and they are all playing totally independently, with totally different variations of the music generated by the app, but yet they all completely blend together musically from room to room. And even in the same room, every instance you have of the app running, say on your iPad and on your phone at the same time, the sounds from one device layer perfectly upon the other to add to the overall song. Lastly, if you’re looking for other good ambient music apps, try Moodscaper (as well as Pianoscaper and Guitarscaper from the same developer), and the album-app from the group Loscil called “Adrift”. The ‘scaper apps can be more interactive than Eno’s Reflection, but also good, organic passive listening. The Loscil app is more like the Eno app in that it’s just an endless, organic form of one of their albums. Though their app has multiple tracks instead of just the one this Eno app has..Version: 1.3

Eno fully realized. This is, for me, the most fully realized Eno piece to date. Finally, technology enables a single work that has no beginning and no end, but has "moods" that shift with time of day, duration, etc. Every day it grows and evolves and I grow more enamored. Kudos..Version: 1.0.2

Not much for the priceWhile I appreciate that this was suppose to be an artistic expression, and I usually blame myself for being duped into spending too money on something with little value, I feel a little blindsided by this app. Judging by the interactive experiences provided by previously released apps, I was expecting much the same here and was left completely wanting. The listener has no control whatsoever of the listening experience. Art, yes, I get it, but I could have easily put this piece on loop for free in Apple Music and not known the difference. My ear is apparently not discerning enough to care if there are subtle changes in the composition. Also, the “space frequencies” are absolute nails on a chalk board. I’m likely going to delete this app because I can’t stand them. UPDATE: While I’m still going to caution all comers about the price and warn them about the lack of interactivity, I’m here to admit that I have NOT deleted the app from my phone after all and have spent the last two weeks listening to it for most of my work day. It really is oddly addictive and very comforting. I’ve also found that paired with a nature sound such as rain or wind it makes an excellent study/focus tool that also blocks out background noise. I’ve even gotten accustomed to the “space frequency” sounds that have actually served to draw my attention back to the music and refocus me when I start to drift..Version: 1.3

Ambitious AmbienceIf you appreciate Brian Eno's ambient music, you will love this. It is reminiscent of Eno's best early work with ambience. The piece slowly evolves and can be enjoyed for hours, like a meditative soundtrack. Somehow, even as background, this music is energizing and uplifting. This app is well worth the investment if you are an Enophile. Eno updated the app in March 2017, to mark the beginning of spring..Version: 1.1

Good appGood sound..Version: 1.2

Reflection is a Wonderful app.Like an art installation in your pocket. This new app by Eno and Chilvers is their best to date. Ideal for contemplating, using for creative pursuits, a soundtrack to a commute, studying, or sleeping to, its infinitely changing light and sound subtlety change and drift like a slow moving cloud. As good as the Reflection audio release was, this app demonstrates that the cd was never long enough. Now you can enjoy the music the way it was intended. As a work of art. Highly recommend. :-).Version: 1.0.3

ExtraordinaryAn amazing app - revolutionary, beautiful. Thank you BE..Version: 1.0

A beautiful start to 2017Tranquil, centering and deeply reflective, this app. is starting 2017 with a sense of wonder and the possibility to find sense in the chaos of this world. Thank you Mr. Eno..Version: 1.0

Best ever anything👏🏻Thankyou Brian I love you I now have my sanity back I new one day someone would answer my prayers 🙏🏿.Version: 1.1

Wake up, fans. This is a Brian Eno album! So glad I purchased this. It just keeps generating interesting variations on itself, each one unique in tone, pace, mood, but belonging to the same composition or family of music. All around the world, this app is generating a unique set of variations every day. This is the first album I've ever heard of that goes on indefinitely, is different every time you play it, and even changes with the seasons and time of day. Ha. Coolest thing ever..Version: 1.2

Not interactiveI would have given this 5 stars because... well, It's Eno. However, what the description doesn't make clear is that this is not an interactive app like Eno & Peter Chilvers previous creations Trope, or Air. For the hefty $39 price tag I think it would have been more appropriate to let you know up front what you were (or weren't) getting. Perhaps the description could be modified to reflect that. That being said, I probably would have bought it anyway, as I love his work and if you do, too, you'll want to add this to your collection. Meditative and quietly stimulating as always..Version: 1.0

Endless ambienceSome may be put off this app as it's price seems high impaired to most apps for iOS. I took the plunge because of my years of enjoying the music of Brian Eno and a couple of his earlier apps. I listened to the Reflections album, but I wanted the full experience. I've now been listening to the app for several hours without monotony. The music flows and keeps a portion of my brain stimulated while I both work and play. I am looking forward to playing this through the home sound system, allowing the peaceful sounds to fill the space and inspire creativity and harmony in our home..Version: 1.0.2

Serene, sober, rewarding.I bought the app on the first day of release, and I've had a lot of pleasure from it; on the occasional day I've worked from home I've left it running for up to seven hours and, at low volumes, it really does create a calming work environment. At louder volumes, however, it's almost too engaging to be truly considered ambient music, but this is not really a criticism. I baulked at the price at first but a bit of perspective helps: when Eno released "Thursday Afternoon" in 1985 it retailed at a price that was comparable to about £31. in today's money, the accompanying video cost even more, and the necessary hardware was still new and, consequently, really expensive. That only lasted an hour as well, whereas "Reflection" - which is a more rewarding piece - lasts forever. Music has been devalued by its cheapness, and I think it's good that "Reflection" been confidently priced; art should feel as if it's worth something..Version: 1.0.3

Infinite EnoThis is great. I listened to Reflection on Apple Music a few times and decided to buy it. I was torn between getting the CD or the App. The app won. The app is simplicity itself. It starts playing as soon as it's opened. It also plays in the background, so your iOS device isn't tied up with the app. I like it better than Bloom--the soundscape is more interesting. I don't miss the interactive nature of the other Eno apps, either. I do miss the archival quality of having a CD. If the app stops working or if I stop using iPhones, I won't have access to it the same way I would if I had the physical CD. I might try recording some sessions through the phone's lightning port. Hopefully more apps like this are on their way. A Neroli or Thursday Afternoon app would be amazing..Version: 1.1

TranquilI'm a big fan of ambient music, typically getting my fix from Drone Zone on SomaFM's fantastic website. I seldom write reviews, but I have to say that Reflection is a noteworthy app, and since my download, I've had it going non-stop. Yes, $31 is a lot for a music app, but the ever changing nature of Reflection makes this a must buy for ambient aficionados..Version: 1.0.3

Revolutionary Musical AmbianceAn incredible feat of musical 'composition', ambient architecting and the use of revolutionary computing techniques to create and endless, never the same composition. Don't let its apparent simplicity fool you ! There was a lot going on before you even got it and there is some very clever new techniques at work when you use it, to have your own personal Brian Eno :) The tools and the basis may be his, but the music is ... well, is it yours ? ... or is it his ? ... or both ? ... or neither ? :) Well worth the price, which he has absorbed the daft Brexit App price increases for your benefit. Fabulous to use with Mindful Meditation too..Version: 1.1

Art you can useIt’s gorgeous, calming and fascinating. Worth it. Just bought it and hoping to hear one of the seasonal updates when spring rolls around. Hope there is a plan to keep this working for decades. UPDATE: Spring 2018 just came on and it’s a subtle but noticeable change. Lovely..Version: 1.3

Wonderful, relaxing, hypnotic and immersiveI never buy apps, but have enjoyed Brian Eno for years from Music for Airports, Discreet Music and more recent work. The app does not loop but explores similar sounds and themes in a relaxing and gentle way. I use this almost daily for meditation listening on bose headphones and find it the perfect way to escape and recharge. From the number of times (hours) listened it’s cost me less than a penny or two. My only regret is that it won’t play over my Sonos set, though the intimacy of the experience would be diminished..Version: 1.3

Peak Eno?I believe this app will prove to be worth the money for Eno fans, new or old. It extends a lineage that began with the meditative tracks of Another Green World (in 1975!), but in particular it connects to Thursday Afternoon (1985) and other longform works that Eno now calls "thinking music." In a sense, it completes the journey, giving us music that is truly part of the living environment because, like the other parts, it always changes and never repeats itself. A couple of notes: 1st, and time-sensitive, the free "Sisters" MP3 downloads for early buyers are worthwhile -- essentially a complete new album in themselves, somewhat similar to the Reflection CD but distinct. 2nd, I *don't* find Reflection, as others do, simple or monotonous compared to Eno's earlier works. Really, you have to listen for a while: it has its moods. 3rd, if earlier reviews have left you confused, it does now have a sleep timer!.Version: 1.0.3

Art spaceThe generative ambient music and screen artwork provide an excellent space for thinking. Is it worth the high price? It was for me..Version: 1.0.3

AmazingThis is worth the price and is amazing on Apple TV. I would recommend letting it run for hours on end. Enjoy the serenity that follows..Version: 1.0.3

HomePod StereoThis app is a work of art I will not deny that. I am running it on Apple TV 4K. Audio was a little tricky for had to tweak it from only running through TV speakers and not my Apple Homepods. I run my Homepods pairing 2 speakers for stereo playback and sound is only coming out 1. It’s a spacious playback but not as dimensional as hoped, as say playback via headphones. Be nice to upgrade app to have more control of audio stereo output. If anyone knows a fix, please feel free to share..Version: 1.3

AlwaysWake up. Hit play. Do day stuff. Hit Stop. Go to bed..Version: 1.2

App no longer appears on Apple TV Home ScreenI can still open the app from the App Store on Apple TV but the icon is gone from my Apple TV home page. Why?.Version: 1.3

Waiting for VRAfter seeing this wonderful app I eagerly look forward to Mr. Eno venturing into virtual reality! Looking forward to the future of music! -Steve Kilpatrick.Version: 1.3

Chromecast support?Would love to see support for Chromecast devices..Version: 1.0

SublimeThis isn't really an app in the traditional sense, in that you can't interact with it other than to pause the sound. It's a work of art. Endlessly evolving sounds and visuals. The price tag is pretty hefty, although worth it if you love this kind of music..Version: 1.0

Pretty greatRuns really good on m1. Official support for it would still be nice because it can't go completely fullscreen and whatnot..Version: 1.3
