Brian Eno : Reflection for Negative User Reviews

Feature Req - real pause button ?The whole app seems to reset and start over every time I pause to answer a question/phone call at work. Really appreciate if I could pick up where I left off ! Wouldn't that be more the point for a "generative" music app ? Thx.Version: 1.1

Nice - but why so expensive (30 quid) ?I somehow managed to convince myself that this was £2.99 and it wasn't till afterwards that I realised I had been charged £29.99 - in my opinion this really is a high charge for such an app. I would have wholly recommended it for the the lower price - it is a very interesting piece of art - and I have left it running for hours in the background - very good to snooze to for instance. The visuals are also quite interesting - they just morph very slowly - almost imperceptibly. Also going for a run with this on headphones worked for me also. I just hope for the 30 quid we get some updates from time to time..Version: 1.1

Should pause when headphones removedIt would be much better if Reflection paused playback when a headphone or Bluetooth playback device is disconnected. This is a feature that works on virtually every other audio app. It’s annoying having this be a two-step process. Aside from that the music is quite enjoyable..Version: 1.3

Great music, not so great appAs other have mentioned there is no interactivity here, unless you count a pause button. I sure would have liked an optional shut off timer so if I want to use to fall asleep to I won't wake up to dead battery if nothing else. All the other Eno apps have this feature so it couldn't have bee hard to add this. It's great that it's fresh every time but that doesn't make worth ten time as much as the older apps. I have alomost everything Eno's done and even got to meeet him very breifly once and this is this first time he's ever disappointed me. Maybe after I've listened more I'll change my mind but so far I'm unimpressed..Version: 1.0

Not worthy of the generative treatmentThe composition itself is ok, nothing spectacular compared to other works. There just simply aren't enough elements to the track to justify making this a 'generative' experience. The high frequency resonance is particulary grating when the engine decides to play it multiple times very close together. Same for the 'classic Eno' fade-in synth note. I knew going in that Reflections is not interactive a la Scape, but the latter was much more exciting and promising due to an excellent variety of moods and textures. In sum, not a varied enough composition to be a showcase for generative music..Version: 1.0.3

Eno's LongplayerI have all the sound apps produced by the ENO/Chilvers team. I like them all. Reflection does have a puzzlingly hefty price tag and I'm not sure if the app warrants it. With Bloom, Scape and the rest there is some sense of self-creation - some element of interaction. Not here. The colour-design changes over time along with the music which, I'm led to understand endlessly ebbs and flows over the years. I am typing this review whilst listening to the (free) Longplayer app. This sublime composition will be playing, with any luck, until 23:59 in 2999 with no repetition. Longplayer is a gift to the world. So well done. Very well done. I'm just a little disappointed at the steep price-gradient compared to the other apps in the 'series'..Version: 1.0.3

Buy Scape instead of Reflections"Reflection" is nothing more than an extended version of the Brian Eno's "Reflection" album on CD. You can play it day and night. Maybe the music really evolves but it is hard to say because the selection of available sounds remains the same. If you have a CD version, put on a loop and the result will be pretty much the same. If you like soundscapes and you have "Scape", also by Brian Eno, do not bother buying " Reflection". If you do not have "Scape" - buy it. You can create as good the scapes as "Reflection" or better, and you have a sense of achieving something with your own input. In "Reflection" you can do nothing by yourself..Version: 1.3

Almost amazing.I want to love this but there’s a super shrill (12,000+hz tone- like someone standing next to you screaming Eeeeeeeeeeee) that has been introduced into the generative mix. It is ear splitting and so painful and really destroys the joy of what could be. I’m hoping it’s something that’s just part of summer, if it’s sticking around in the fall, I guess it’s time to delete this. Really sad..Version: 1.3

Reflections on ReflectionAfter decades of listening to Brian Eno’s ambient music, it is now fused with my DNA. It is always somewhere in my life every day. However, what I truly love and miss this time around - with Reflection - is a tiny bit of emotion here and there in the music, whether it is a slow withering texture or a slight chord change, a wash or something barely there. I do find the sound ingredients of Reflection to be a little limited, recognisable and mechanical. I find myself listening to LUX a lot more. I think it would be great if Brian added some new tints and textures here and there with each seasonal update to lend a little more feeling. I want this to be his best creation so badly! I’m here for this. Peter Westcott.Version: 1.3

MehIt's hard to believe I would rate an Eno app this low, but Reflection has been a disappointment. First, it isn't one of his strongest pieces. Second, the generative aspects are quite uninteresting. Why no textural development? Everything is the same forever. The visuals are similarly uninteresting. There is no interactivity. For $5, this would be an ok value, but $40 is just too much..Version: 1.0

Great concept, terrible priceThis essentially works as a 'Buddha Box'. Too bad it's not interactive in any way. This music is good, but I wish there was a little more dynamics, starts to sound the same after 30 min. Free "upgrades" would be nice..Version: 1.0

Not as good as I was expectingFor the price, i’m not very impressed with this. I haven’t heard the ‘static’ version of this album, but after about 30 minutes of listening to this app version, i’m already finding it a bit repetitive, there just doesn’t seem to be as much going on compared to the Scape app, which is far superior in my opinion and only half the price. It is still beautiful music, but I was expecting more to justify the price..Version: 1.3

Season Choices? It’s a fantastic ambient music composition, and ranks among Eno’s best ambient work. But for the price, at the very least we should be able to choose between the seasons. I got it recently and therefore have “Autumn”. I would very much like to hear or see the differences in the other seasons, but they appear to be previous versions, no longer available in the app. Would the developer consider allowing the old seasons to still be chosen within the app? (If/when that happens, I’ll update to five stars!).Version: 1.3

DisappointedSigh I thought there would be something we could play with and make our own music..Version: 1.1
