✓ What a waste!!This is actually a fun game to play and quite addictive however, and it’s a big ‘however’ The game as others state, is over priced, glitchy and the customer support is so bad, that so many people have just given up and quit because of it. At the end of the day, this game is just a money spinner for epic action and mz. They don’t fix issues, and their customer service seems like an automated system which is set to frustrate and confuse mode. It has become impossible to play the game without spending £100 at least once a week to stay competitive, I hate to think how much money I have wasted on this game and I am no where near strong enough to attack or participate in any action. ✓ Such poor valueThe game itself is a slow paced real-time social game, it should be fun. What kills it is that the packs are just insane. You have to buy them. They have deliberately programmed so many road blocks into the game so that you can’t progress without them, and they are between $100 - $160 each depending on your country. They will give you the thing you need to progress plus some currency and a bunch of fillers. The value for money aspect of this game is utterly awful. Possibly the worst on the entire App Store. It’s pitched at the top 5% of players who are happy to spend many many thousands of dollars to be at the top of the game the rest of the population is there to keep those players spending. ✓ Realm Merge ruined the game and wasted time and moneyI started this game in a fresh realm and grew to become to strongest guild in our realm in 2 days. I was one of the top ranked people in the realm and decided to spend 5 dollars and then 20. Everyone else on the guild also followed that way we can stay ahead in the realm and everything was fine and dandy. We are making plans on getting the crystal when BAM. We are all merged into a new server. To put it into perspective, we were the top realm at 5million power just to be thrown into a realm next to a guy who single handedly had 4 times the power of our entire guild combined. Safe to say all of us got destroyed and there is no way to come back into the game. If we knew that we would be randomly merged into a server without warning then NONE of us would have spent a dime on this game. It's a ploy to make new people feel like they can get a head and then they dump you into a server to die and uninstall. Initially I enjoyed the game, but the server merge completed made our entire guild of around 80 people uninstall and quit. A good game should encourage long term stability and play, not random realm changes that literally ruin everything. ✓ Price gouging, as well as, bait and switch tacticsI initially enjoyed this game quite a bit. Unfortunately, the devs are more concerned about making money than they are about their players. To progress in the game you have to by packs. There is no way around it. If that’s not bad enough as soon as you buy a pack the prices immediately go up every time. This results in you paying $100 for a pack that someone else gets for $5. The exact same pack. Then you have to read what is offered on the pack closely. Many times you aren’t getting what you expected. ‘Lifetime’ boosts are only good for a limited time. Also, I bought a pack that specifically stated that it would give me an ‘additional’ 50% off of research and building costs. I never got the additional 50% off building costs and the research reduction lasted 7 days and stopped. This was a ‘lifetime’ booster. When I contacted customer service they tell me that there packs never stack even though it listed it as an additional reduction in costs. Several emails later they still refuse to fix the problem and refuse to answer why it worked temporarily if stacks don’t happen. Again, they are only interested in making as much money as possible. It’s the people playing the game that keep me coming back, but I refuse to spend another cent on game until major changes occur. Though it still feels relatively incomplete for one thing if you and a friend start playing the game at even slightly different times then there is no way to play together as you will likely be put in different realms that is a real downer on your game experience. The other issue wit this is that you can't interact with your friends at all if they are not on the same realm as after contacting support there is currently no way to move realm once you have been placed in a realm. Also the constant bombardment with adverts to buy the in game currency that is timed saying get x limited time only are rather annoying particularly if you do buy the packs as they come up first you get offered s pack for 7 dollars or so then the next pack is 30 or so after that you will only ever get offered packs for 160 dollars. They gift you item unlocks, but then you have to spend real money for the item to do anything/upgrade. Resource and research/building requirements are on an hundreds of millions scale, sometimes venturing into the billions. After you reach about level 15, after they’ve suckered you in, thinking everything you need was available for free somewhere throughout the map, it becomes a world for the pay to players. And now that I have idiotically sunk hundreds of real, hard earned money into this game, they think they can get away with false advertising. They offer their packs (that *only* sell for 100$, and usually only offer one or 2 items of real consequence), then leave off items, and hope you don’t catch it. When confronted with screenshots or evidence that the item is missing, they claim there is nothing they can do, and cannot complete a refund because the package was delivered. The game has become a place to chat with friends more then it is to play with the issue of not being able to do anything. However, if you want to move along in the game you'd need to spend £99 per bundle that will speed up you process slightly. The packs that are available to buy, are ridiculously overpriced, and it feels like players are paying for the name, rather than the game! There are, (when I stopped playing) 3 extra heroes you can unlock, each of which were £100, the extra buildings of which I think there were 6, also £100 each. They even wanted to charge £100 for an overview map!! They run realm versus realm competitions about once every 3 weeks or so, to teleport to another realm requires a ticket... Yup, £100 per ticket. This is pay to play at its extreme, if you do not pay in the region of £2000 (for the buildings, heroes, plus you will need to purchase resources once past level 25) you simply cannot compete and will be farmed for your resources and heroes (which can be banished to give the big boys further bonuses (like they need them!)). There is no mechanism in place to make it difficult for a multi-million power player to walk all over a citadel that has taken weeks and months to build and reduce your forces to zero in less than 15 minutes. The issue I have with many of these types of games is they offer those with lots of extra money to spend on the game ways to dominate that regular players can’t match. Now, I have no problem with a game incentivizing those that can pay for extra power ups, but the games that really are meant for the players and not just for the profit of the designers, are those where you can get all of the big power ups eventually even if you don’t have a bottomless credit card. The real problem with this game in particular is that the increase the price of the offers each time you make a purchase. You must join a guild to pass level 5 with your empire (you can leave again, but you will find others smooth the way a great deal). The game is geared to make it almost impossible to get by with a single account/empire. Their math works oddly - a 50% off boost isn’t really 50% off (working as intended, not as advertised), so beware what you purchase or craft, and their bundles/packages are determinedly obscure in their descriptions of certain items, leaving you to guess or assume at their meaning. It’s not even pay to win. After level 30 it’s pay to play. You literally can’t advance without buying a pack. But be careful not to buy a pack by mistake. They won’t refund you. Which is hard to do because you get a forced popup ad for a pack literally every time you open the game. And the “buy” button on the pack is located in the same place as most of the in-game menu buttons. So it’s easy to click “buy” on accident. This happened to me the other day and I was careful to keep my thumb away from the home button so that it would not authorize. But the app was unresponsive. After several minutes I went to double click the home button to force quit the app. But at this exact moment the app responded and authorized my purchase. Total baloney! Building my empire was going smoothly, I found a nice guild to call home, and my power was going up at a decent pace. Soon after I realized that the only way to get anywhere in this game is to spend money. The time you need to wait for buildings to finish, troops to train, as well as time to research all increase exponentially. So unless your willing to spend money you'll be idleing for days or weeks. Also at some point during your time in this game someone in your realm, who probably spent hundreds if not thousands on this game, will continuously attack you and probably take on your entire guild. If you complain the devs will probably tell you that they know it's frustrating to continually be attacked my a stronger player and that there are strategies to beat even the strongest player. That strategy is to spend more money than the other. It takes 6-10 people at level 35+ to beat a single level 32. Most of the lower level people in my guild have quit playing because it's impossible to take on a single person that high if he keeps spending money to rebuild while getting attacked. The player that are stronger than can't fight back either unless they group together and keep attacking for hours to see who has the deeper pockets. ✓ No matching system = lopsided battlesIt was fun until I hit citadel level 10 or 11... suddenly people starting attacking me with level 4+ troops (you only have level 1 at my level), heroes at least 10 levels higher, and troop numbers 10x mine. I messaged one such person and said - is this how this works? You just crush people far weaker? Is that fun? The response was pretty typical... so I deleted the game. Could be fun, but really needs a matching system to make it so. Otherwise you get high enough to draw notice, then get stomped by losers who find easy battles amusing. That aside, the game would get 3 stars. It’s pretty involved and fun, if you like city building and tech advance mechanics. They have a pretty generous amount of speed-ups, in my experience, and it was just really getting interesting when I apparently got a target pasted on my city. What knocks it from 4 stars down to three in gameplay would be the heavy purchase pushing. Heavy, heavy pushing of in-app purchases. Like every time you launch the game there’s a splash screen for some $5 offer or other with a forced delay before being able to close it, and the whole time you play there’s a banner ad to buy gold. If you want to operate within the top 25% of players you will be needing to spend £100 per week on packs. If you do have this money to spend, then crack on. It is a good game with a fabulous community of players to help. The customer support is mainly automated, so don’t expect any real helpful feedback. The worrying development I speak of is regarding the sale of the most recent packs. You select the pack to buy, buy it, and then discover that items are missing.
