✓ Good game, but it needs some fixesI’m playing the game and I liked the experience so far, some things are unacceptable like the 200 gems to upgrade a character, it’s just not realistic, it’s too much, and I think it should have some kind of gold price to do it, give other options. Another thing that I think it needs improvement is the coop, the coop is great, the only issue is that if I play with lee and somebody else plays with him too we are identical, if we could just change the colors of the hat and the shirt, even in single player mode, that would be great. Accessories for the characters would be amazing too. Considering the rest of the game, gameplay mechanics and the story, I liked it very much, really appreciate everything you guys have done. The energy is bad too I understand the reasons why exist, I just didn’t want to spend any energy just inviting someone in the coop, should be free and spend only the energy of the stage. ✓ Enjoy it butttttt..I enjoy the game but the button for spending jewels to revive your character to keep going needs to be moved. When I’m playing and in the moment of trying not to die, I’m still tapping. The time between my character dying and the jewel button coming up is too short, making me spend jewels when I don’t want to! So it becomes super difficult to save up my jewels! Another problem is when adds pop up to earn coins. Frequently, after I watch an ad, the screen will turn white after the ad and freeze. I end up having to restart the app and it won’t give me the coins that I earned for watching when I come back! Also the game lags from time to time, messing with the gameplay. But that might be because phone companies are slowing down older generation phones as they update, even though I only have a iPhone 6 which isn’t that old. ✓ GlitchyThe game is pretty fun... until you play it enough to hit weird time-wasting bugs and start hating the controls. Tl;dr good concept, bad design, weird glitches. This game doesn’t deserve the 4 star rating it has now. Most annoying bug as of 2019-02-05: when playing the Tower, sometimes enemies will move off screen and never come back, and as result you can’t progress and have to exit. To add insult to injury, you’re forced to watch an ad. Huge waste of time when you get far into the Tower and then are forced to exit because of this bug. Another annoying bug: when reward rollover happens while your iOS device was off, when you turn it on the game is frozen and you need to force quit it. Another bug: some ads just crash the game Another bug: the store occasionally sells keys. The first time you buy one, it is listed for 16 gems, but in the game takes ~26 gems instead. The second time it happened to me was enough for me to know this probably will happen all the time. Another bug: game slows to an absolute crawl on occasions and then just crashes Annoyances: The game is made artificially more difficult because of weird design decisions. Annoyance #1: Characters can grab enemies by walking into them... but this is probably 90% of the reason why you’d ever get hit. Because this move often triggers accidentally as you’re moving around, enemies flanking you have a chance to hit you because you stop moving. You can try to throw the enemy you grabbed quickly to keep moving but most of the time, it’s too late... you’re getting pummelled. Annoyance #2: The game is designed to punish instead of reward players for finishing missions that are with enemies that are higher level than your character’s level. If you get a warning that you’re attempting a level that might be too difficult, and you’re going for the first star, don’t do it because you’ll get a fraction of the rewards you’d get if you were at level parity. Bad design. I could do without the grab move. If it could be disabled, I would disable it. At higher levels, the grab move is just a liability. I see Lucky Kat Studios has a bunch of games (I see their in-game ad posters all the time) so I don’t know how spread thin the dev team is but it would be nice if some of the bugs I mentioned got fixed. As for the grab move annoyance... I guess I could “git gud” and just move around enemies instead of through. Still though, I’m not a fan of games where the you’re fighting the control design to play the actual game..Version: 1.3.1

✓ Energy system is dumb and greedyGet rid of the bull crap energy mechanic. It’s a brawling side scroller, and is ruined by the “Oh ya, let’s add a moronic money grab pay to play money barrier, ya that sounds great, hahahah *trails off and starts drooling*” To the developer that responded to my review: I appreciate you taking the time to read it, however here is my response to that response. If I was looking to play an arcade game, I would go do so. This is a mobile game that people want to play to pass time. This is impeded when your ability to play is literally blocked by a pay wall. I would happily pay a full ONE-TIME $5 dollar fee to be able to play the game anytime I wanted, but not every time I’ve spent little more than 15 minutes on it. The energy system you and far too many other developers have flooded the App Store with is as I said in the title of this review, dumb and greedy. You trying to compare this to spending money at an arcade is not a valid excuse for your use of a system that abuses players, it is just a thinly veiled attempt to justify your greed and disregard for people who actually want to play and enjoy your game..Version: 1.1.8

✓ Great game until they added subscription.Great game when you are willing to pay or watch ads to keep the developers from maintaining it. Then they added subscriptions which completely makes the game pay to win. You can either farm for 2 week to level up your character or just get the resources everyday as a daily package . ✓ Doesn’t live up to potentialFirst off, let me say that this game is a great tribute to all of the old side-scrolling arcade fighters. The mechanics are quite good for a mobile game. However, the game becomes virtually unplayable soon after you begin. The difficulty climbs quite radically within the first stage, encouraging you to invest in very pricey gems or chests that are poorly and unfairly randomized. And there are also some rather unfortunate bugs...for me, the game won’t register when I beat levels on medium difficulty, so I can’t play hard levels or even progress to the first stage’s boss. All in all, this is a good game, but judging from the setbacks, and the comments the creator leaves on reviews, this app is just supposed to be a money maker..Version: 1.2.1
✓ Meh Not Really That GoodI mean c’mon, another side scrolling beat em up. Really?! Its the same old thing but really slow for me at least, if u want quality fighting games try shadow fight 2 or play on ur console/pc and get a fighter. Not that good. ✓ Great game but so many bugsI’ve been playing this game for a while, and it really is addicting. However, there are a lot of bugs, and the pay wall is ridiculous. For example, the music just randomly stops sometimes and when it starts up again, it sounds like a speaker is blown. Also, on some levels, 2 or 3 copies of the character you are playing appear on the screen randomly. This is actually helpful because you get 2 or 3 times the damage until you have to move to the next screen, and unfortunately have to back out of the level. I also cannot select the baseball bat when choosing items without the game crashing. For the amount of money you have to pay to upgrade your character, there shouldn’t be any bugs at all. It’s almost like the devs have given up trying to fix the game. And fix the bonus wheel, because after you reach the spin point where it costs you 1000 coins to spin again, it ALWAYS lands on 100 coins. Not random at all..Version: 1.4.5

✓ Slowdown...Ever since the last update the game chugs terribly on my iPad Air 2. It’s too bad as I had been enjoying beat street very much. It’s a bit grindy and the gem prices required to do minor things seem kinda high, but the overall gameplay is a delight and a great example of how to take the fun 90’s brawler genre and adapt it expertly to a touch screen platform. Unfortunately, right now it slows down horribly every time two enemies are on the screen. Hopefully this gets resolved soon. Also, you shouldn’t have to level up the new characters as much after unlocking them. By the time you get to level 20 or so and you actually unlock the wrestler character, you can’t win a thing with her til you spend tons of coins upgrading her to the level the other characters are at. A freshly unlocked character should be playable out of the gate, it shouldn’t take a few thousand coins and a lot of item collection *after* unlocking the character to get the new character functional. That part is kind of a bummer. Still, the gameplay itself is really good, so hopefully they’ll fix the slowdown issue and dial back the freemium grind a little and I’ll be happy as can be again! :).Version: 1.1.9

✓ 200 gems to evolve?I really enjoy the game. It actually brings me back to the good old Double Dragons, Street of Rage, Final Fight and so on. So I thank you for that. However, I feel very baffled by the 200 -gems -to -evolve mechanic. To be honest, I have been very patient to wait and collect all of the hats for each character in this game. But then.... the 200 -gems -to -evolve hit my face. Gems are extremely hard to find in this game; and to think I must grind 200 gems to evolve one single character is just down right madness. ✓ No stuns, throw sensitivity and hazardsTwo massive problems I have with this game are enemies not getting stunned when I attack them and throwing enemies not being sensitive enough. For the first one Joey and Joesette seem to be the worst because they just get knocked back a bit and attack you anyway, it also happens with Scottie sometimes. The second one happens way too often when I try to throw an enemy, but I don’t so I end up getting hit by another enemy. And if possible can you make it so enemies are affected by more environmental hazards, they just walk through spikes and sawblades and they don’t set off mines..Version: 1.3.4
✓ Overpriced diamond purchasesDon’t get me wrong, the game itself is addicting but you can only get so far. max level is 20, 10 for the first two characters. soon you hit level 30 all the enemies are way above that. you’re pretty much forced to upgrade your characters that all cost 200 diamonds which is nearly impossible without actually using in-app purchases which is a deal breaker for me. that or you have unlock new characters which you have to piece them together by getting their tokens but you rarely get new character tokens UNTIL you actually unlock them by buying them in the shop or opening chests which are overpriced and kind of pushed into the corner to buy in-app purchases. also i don’t know if you gain more energy but only 20 energy gets you 6 levels and you’re done, you can watch ads to continue but then after awhile you have to pay 80 diamonds to recharge which is way too much and again forced to buy in-app purchases for more diamonds just for everything else in the game..Version: 1.1.9

✓ Controls and bugsI like the idea behind the game but there are some issues with this game. As of right now I can’t even get past the title screen. When it says touch to start it just loops the title screen over and over again. So I currently can’t play. I sometimes feel frustrated because I will accidentally grab an enemy and get destroyed because you can’t cancel a grab, and then have to watch my character get trashed by 4 AI players. (At least to my knowledge it was never explained) Then there are things like barrels and electricity that shouldn’t really be in the game. Is this a beat em’ up or a platformer? Enemies can walk over spikes and not take damage but when you run over them, you take damage and fall over. Why? Maybe the damage part is okay but not falling over from walking on spikes. Other beat em’ ups like old Streets of Rage did have stuff like that to, but is was also stupid to have in those games as well. Just feel like some of the hazards need to be toned down. Rather lose to fighting than gimmicky hazards. Then the portrait art of characters look way better than the actual characters in game. So aside from what I said above, it has potential, it just really needs polished..Version: 1.1.9

✓ It’s great but...Any old school gamer will be instantly drawn to it by the great pixel art, retro style beat’em up! The animation is nice, sfx and music tie it all together but that where it all good ends and the problems begin for the typical “mobile” games. Touch controls are awful and cater for casuals as you mistakenly do other actions when you don’t mean to. That can lead you into situations where you can easily get gang up on by multiple enemies making the game not challenging but real cheap. The bad controls shouldn’t be the challenge but the game itself. AN OPTION FOR CONTROLLER SUPPORT WOULD BE GREAT for players that want precise control over the characters. As with other “free to play” mobile games it’s a grind-fest to do much of anything with upgrading and getting new characters that encourages players to “buy” your way. ✓ Great Game needs more polishA lot of people usually complain about the pay wall. I have hit it once and threw a buck their way cause it kinda deserved the money. The gameplay is fun to pick up but hard to master which makes this game fun to replay levels. The major problem in this game are the enemies they can cancel all but your heavy attack, and if they surround you they are able to get in three to four free hits. Even with the invincibility. The attack priority always seems to side with the enemies too. There has been plenty of times where I will strike first, but it deals no damage. While the enemies have these attacks that you have no way of canceling all you can do is run. This becomes a problem when you have three or more of the same guy performing these invincible attacks. Now if they would fix this issue the game would be a ton more fun and people wouldn’t be so upset about paying for gems. Which are pretty easy to obtain through the daily challenges..Version: 1.2.1
✓ MehPretty fun combat like old brawlers however it being one touch ruins it. Swiping to throw enemies seems very inconsistent and ‘walk in to an enemy to grab them’ is ridiculously obnoxious if you don’t want to actually grab them especially when you fail to throw them (see above). Movement is controlled by dragging so this happens a lot. Overall nothing special with irritating controls. Edit: after playing a little more until I unlocked a dash and my character now dashes constantly when trying to move and then ends up grabbing some enemy. There’s a reason games like this aren’t touch games. Clunky, frustrating to control and inconsistent, NOT what you want in a brawler or any game really..Version: 1.1.7
✓ Incredible game, detestable pay wall.I am an oldschool hard-core gamer, mostly PC now. I’ve been through all the phases, including arcade of course followed by the personal gaming console generation. I know how free to play works, I get it. But seriously, striking that balance between forcing someone to pay to play a game that is intended to be free vs strongly encouraging people to make purchases to support a game that was not free to create, is VERY difficult. Every product we create is our baby and it’s hard not to see bias in its value when we make it, but you have to weigh your game up against the many other games in the App Store that are like it. This is an extraordinary game with so much potential. It’s beautiful and pays respectable homage to its predecessor beat em ups, but its caught behind too much pay wall. The most successful games are the ones who are not afraid to give stuff away in this App and MMO arena. Consider examining your bias when you’re pricing this game, don’t be scared to be more generous. We will pay for this free game if you don’t force us to pay for it. The low energy is an issue, the 200 Gem pay wall for upgrading characters is an issue, the tower gives paltry rewards, etc. This is a splendid game truly, offer a paid version, or make it less Freemium..Version: 1.2.0

✓ 200 gems for upgrading characters is insaneIt costs 200 gems to upgrade a character. The only way you’re gonna get that many is if you pay money for these or grind the HELL out of them and there’s no real way to grind for them. Only way to earn gems is through chests that you can open once you receive 3 keys, the daily gift box (I think it’s 10 gems at most if you’re lucky enough to get gems as the gift is randomized), and/or through the daily challenges when the most is again 10 gems if you’re lucky to receive that as a reward. If you’re trying to grind for these gems, you better not use them to “continue” after losing because you’ll lose gems QUICK. Especially if you’re low or have run out of energy. C’mon guy I mean you’re already making us wait to play by limiting the energy (which I’ve learned to deal with) but then slamming us with the 200 gems upgrading system?? When you don’t even give us a good chance of obtaining them without $$$?? This game is incredible and I enjoy it very very much. I love the character selection and the fact there are a TON of levels but that gem thing man. I wanna be able to use Lee in later levels but I can’t because he caps at 20 and it’s so hard to gain gems without paying so much. ✓ Character SelectionLove the game! However, I would like to have the option to play a character that I want without having to reach a certain level. I bought diamonds and coins and spent them both at the shop to obtain Ana’s coins with hopes that I’d be able to unlock her. To have to beat 50 levels before getting the chance to play her THEN have to level her up spending more coins doesn’t seem fair. Now with the new addition of Oni at 62 levels, why not give us a free character rotation or the option to buy and unlock the characters that we want? By the time I reach level 50 and 65, I may be bored with the game and never had the opportunity to play the characters that I wanted to. Thank you for you time in advance! ✓ No Co-op playThis game does not have co-op play like it is advertised. I’ve tried many times but nothing happens. I don’t think anyone plays this anymore. Just finished the last boss, and the ending sucked sooooo bad, it’s worse then an NES ending, it was like 3 lines and one of the likes was like I can’t believe u beat me, so flipping lame. Definitely not worth my time OMG!!!!! The end boss is that guy dressed in a suit and as a rat mask, he turns into a golden bull for reasons unknown. It’s so stupid. Holy f.Version: 1.4.2
✓ Decent game...Besides my stupid nickname please read this ok? This game is definitely one of a kind. The way it combines a beat em up type game with the RPG style is really something amazing. But, it could use something, ANYTHING, to keep players interested. The only game I have ever found that is even close to being like this game is PKPP as they also do a beat em up RPG. But in PPKP you have a sense of how far you really need to go to get to the end, as well as some insane tactics, balanced with just plain needing to get stronger. Beat street could use a bit of the getting stronger part, and beating a boss doesn’t exactly feel all that rewarding. Sure you go on to a new world and all, and reap some great rewards, but no new type of attack or special or item. Nothing like that. PPKP allows you to modify your character’s attacks and I think that would make beat street amazing! Imagine, hurling a ball of straight lightning at the weird mouse shooting at you!! Or something. Anyways, this is probably way too long but if your someone who can play games with straight skill, and doesn’t mind not being able to beat it, go ahead and hit the download button! What is particularly infuriating is that they put the a spend diamonds button EXACTY where you are tapping the screen for punching that shows up instantly when you die, so you accidentally spend your hard earned (or purchased) diamonds when you don’t want to. ✓ Not Bad. A Little Greedy, A Little CheapFor starters on the pros, this wasn’t a bad effort to bring back retro beat-em-ups. Great music and classic graphics blend to make something that LOOKS nice. Play control is ok, simple taps and swipes will make short work of your opponents most of the time. There’s a special move that kind of works when it wants to, you may have to tap a few times before it goes and it does well to take out an enemy on its own. The cons are strong, but not bad enough to keep you away. The standard greed aspects are here, lots of upgrading is required to progress even level-by-level and you’ll be grinding a lot or shelling out cash to keep moving forward. Dying is quite a bit more expensive than it should be, and they dull the mechanics on higher difficulty to encourage it. Be prepared for sluggish movement and unresponsive controls on hard, it’s a rather cheap way to make the game more difficult and the reduction is quite noticeable when walking near enemies. This is one of those that you should enjoy at a slow pace, and be prepared to advance slowly unless your wallet’s invested..Version: 1.2.1
✓ Fun, could be better but the level up system is absurdNice retro style beat em up, good graphics and music. It’s fun and all until you get further in the game. Such a chore to grind in this game. You need collect tokens, fair enough But it’s not enough, you still need the coins, a simple grind Then you still need to grind for hats to level up, pushing it Then you still need to get a bunch of gems so you can actually let them upgrade levels or you’ll max out. Co-op is a good idea but there really should be a way to add people as a friend so you can see when that person is online. You could be level 50 and pared up with a random person at 9 who would be completely useless when you’re playing a higher level or they just ride off of your power when they pick the stage. Also a VS mode would be nice, where you fight other players around the world. I like this game and decided to support the devs and pay for the elite starter pack. ✓ Gems be cautious.Enjoy the game, but am disappointed with the usage of gems. Game is designed to play with one had by clicking repeatedly. Well, that’s what you do, but be careful if you happen to die you will most likely accidentally click the gems to continue wasting your precious gems on a continue that you most likely didn’t want. The pop up windows appears so fast by the time you realize you died it’s too late. I have done it 3 times now for a total of 70 gems. Very aggravating since you need gems to evolve and continue gaining levels. Probably designed this way on purpose to get people to spend money, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth..Version: 1.2.2

✓ Fun Game But Has IssuesHad some fun playing this, although I've come across a couple of issues. An update 5 months ago was to have fixed an issue where touch is offset after completing a level. I'm experiencing this after each level I complete, which makes it easy to get stuck. I also came across an issue in level 4 when fighting the boss where he's at the bottom left of the screen and I perform my super move where I got stuck off the screen and am unable to return. The premise of the game is great, but I don't feel I can continue playing while these issues exist..Version: 1.4.1

✓ Enemies are blocking to muchEvertime I’m in a fight with them, I always have to stay focused so much that I forget what I’m doing. Too many things happen in one time. The enemies will always absorb my hits and it really rages me and the recovery doesn’t help at all because it only last one time. With losing stun, your just making it harder because if your just stuck around enemies they will gang up on you and stop you from attacking . ✓ Sudden Greed?Hello there. To start, this is a solid beat ‘em up. It simulates the style of an arcade, with looks and sounds kind of resembling original games with Lucky Cat’s style and art. Although monotonous to an extent, there’s at least variety in stages, characters and objects that you can get through chests and even in the stages. The rewards are fairly simple and sometimes easy to get at times. I will admit, though, that I just played through level 25, but I’m making this review for the sudden greed that came from the latest update (as of this publication) You see, there are 3 daily missions that you can do to earn more gems or coins. They range from running a certain distance to make a combo with this many hits. On the latest update, however, they added a mission in which it requires to WATCH 5 videos. Yes, 5. In addition, I believe that those kinds of missions are showing up more often. They’ve appeared more than any other mission yet (in my case) along with sending a message to 5 friends about the game (shameless promotion, and this is also a mission. How?!) To conclude, I love Lucky Cat for being a cool company that has a very consistent art style with good games along with them, but I don’t want them to turn into full greed like many companies who just want money from either the players or ads. I understand that it’s a free game, but making those kinds of missions to earn them some pocket change won’t do good to both the game and the players..Version: 1.3.0

✓ The Worst Example Of Pay To WinSo the game seems fun enough, but after a half hour of playing I reached a point where I could no longer progress unless I upgraded my character. Unfortunately upgrading the character relies on a premium currency, sure you earn a tiny bit of that currency by doing every daily quest but i have been working at this for over two weeks now and I still don’t have enough to progress. I could pay the dev $8, plus USD to CAD conversion rates, plus taxes to buy the premium currency needed but that isn’t a real solution, like what happens the next time I want to upgrade my character, do I need to spend around $10 again or is the cost going to be higher? Does spending $30 get rid of all these ads, or the energy mechanic that limits your ability to play. This stuff gives this game the dubious honour of having one of the worst pay-to-win mechanics on the App Store. This doesn’t feel like a game, it feels like a business model..Version: 1.2.1

If you were good enough, just one. ✓ Thoughtful but Shallow Game Hinders EnjoymentThe game is play to win, and even when buying the gems, watching the ad videos, or subscribing (5.99 per week?!) you’re still loosing or shelling out a ton of money. The game rewards trying out new characters but punishes play sessions longer than 27 minutes. It’s a great premises, the entire game can be played with one hand, but it’s undercut by its many’ many’ distracting antagonizing features. Lastly, if you’re using the latest iPhone, the touch screen feedback constantly freezes or doesn’t respond, there needs to be a recalibration / adjustment to the overlay buttons for whatever reasons..Version: 1.4.1

The cherry picking, sometimes hard to beat enemies are enough difficulty. Shouldn’t have to battle the controls as well. It makes most levels harder than they need to be, especially when movement is critical. The enemies should share the danger of the stage traps, and not just the cars. That is a huge unfair advantage when you are having to deal with the control issues. Other than that I love the game overall. ✓ Not worth it, horrible controlsControls are crap and they overcharge for things that are free in other mobile games. Better off playing Guns of Boom or Puzzle Fighter. No energy. Just play all you want. 1, the movement mechanics are terrible. Sometimes it won’t register your movement at all. Often you’ll stand still for long periods of time and just get beat up. 2, hit mechanics are terrible. Enemies can hit you from almost any angle, but if you’re not perfectly lined up sometimes, you’ll miss. They also often have super armor so you’re hits will register but they’ll attack you anyway. 3, if there’s even one level of difference, you’re going to have a bad time. This would be fine in other games, but leveling up in a timely manner is impossible without spending a small fortune in real cash. I agree with the other reviews that say they’re just another greedy company. This is just a worthless cash grab app. There’s no reason to play beyond the first few levels. The developer shouldn’t charge for basic features other games just give away. The graphics aren’t that great and the art looks stolen..Version: 1.2.3
