✓ Needs major improvementThe box says Google Assistant compatible however very clumsy way to have to use it with google home, so if anyone is thinking of buying it to go with Their Google Home device, I would say don’t do it!!!! As much as I love the Switchmate double switch device I’m likely going to return it because it just doesn’t work smoothly with Google😥 and to be honest that’s why I bought it. Who needs another device that has to be controlled by its own App and not integrated with others!!!!! ✓ Don’t waste your moneyFor the first few weeks, this worked great. The lights went off and on when I scheduled them to. Then all of the sudden, it stopped working. No matter how often I adjust the timer, the app turns it off. Sometimes the timer works for a few days, then turns off and the lights and go on and off at the most random times. Sometimes it doesn’t work at all. The app stopped working completely. The switch still works, but I didn’t buy this for an oversized light switch, I bought it for the timer and app usage. ✓ Needs ImprovementsWhenever there seems to be a firmware update it always screws up my device settings. Just recently I had to get a replacement device and so far there hasn’t been any issues. Their customer service was very helpful with trying to resolve my problem. I do have an issue with the options of using sunrise and/or sunset to activate the device. It works the first time however each day after the initial setup it never changed the time with the sun. If this is an issue I hope there is a fix soon. ✓ Not the best smart switchThe switchmate is ok it’s pretty loud but I don’t mind, the real problem is connecting it to google home, when you connect it it rarely ever turns on and off when you say so. It’s very frustrating and I hope it gets fixed in the future, I also have a problem with what you have to say to google home, you can’t just say “turn of lights” you have to say “hey google talk to switchmate” then wait for the person to come on then you can say “turn on/off light” I think this is very unnecessary and should be fixed. ✓ Needs workOnly one person can control each Switchmate switch from their device. It would be really great if we could control the switches from different phones. That way the whole family has control of the lights and not just one person. It seems like every time I go to use the app the receptacles and switches need to be updated. That wouldn't be an issue if I didn't have to make sure to be right next to them in order for them to update. The voice commands for turning things off are a complete waste of time. If you are going to have to open the app and press a button anyway why not just press the switch button. ✓ Unstable!I like this app and have no illusions about the dept of its functionality. I know I have to be in range to actually work the switches, but I can also program the limited timers to go on and off when I want. My main gripe about the app is it is u stable. I have multiple devices across 3 locations, functionality supported indirectly. But when I load all my devices, sometimes the app fails to launch if there is an issue with the switch. ✓ Poor execution of Google HomeIf you can get it to work, it doesn’t work seamlessly with Google Home. First you have to tell google home to talk to Smartswitch, wait for a response, then wait for smartswitch to talk, then call out your command. By that time you may as well just get up and turn the switch yourself. Unfortunately smartswitch usually response with “turned failed”. There is no technical support to call. All done by sending a message through their web page. ✓ New version is not that stable.I’m an original Crowd funding supporter, and had 3 units. I had timers, and had to set reverse settings for a couple lights that had 2 switches, but it all worked beautifully. One of the units finally stopped working and I bought 2 new ones with the motion detect. I don’t use the motion detect, but there slim design is ideal for where I placed them. The problem is those 2 units do not hold their settings. They constantly turn the reverse setting off, and their consistency with the timers is horrible. Maybe it’s just the new devices. I delete the app, I restart my phone with Bluetooth on, I change the batteries, I pair the app with the switch, I set the timer. It takes me a half a dozen times of factory resetting and removing the batteries in order for me to get the times to work. Most of the time, I just lie to it and if I want the switch to turn on at 6 pm, I set it for 7pm. ✓ Change to appI have had this Switchmate for many years when it almost 1st came out. I have updated the app and after that every time you change daylight savings times or the batteries it won’t work properly. It sees it, it’s connected to the Wi-Fi and my iPhone, and can only be operated manually from the phone or when I hit the button on the actual device. It will not turn on and off at any time set. I have deleted the app, I have turned off Bluetooth, I have change the Wi-Fi on and off taking batteries out did everything that the troubleshooting reports say to do. Very upset with this product since the latest update. I have the latest firmware and it just will not turn on automatically anymore. If I could give this zero stars I would. Please fix the bug. ✓ Im gonna give it a solid 3. Here’s why.For the most part the app is well laid out and everything is mostly functional. I like the concept, like the product. However I’m docking the app one star for every issue I see. First, the plugs offer far more device icons you can assign than the switches. Here’s why that’s mind boggling. A wall fixture, ceiling light, light bulb, chandelier, and ceiling fan are NOT usually something you turn on and off with a smart outlet. You operate these things with a wall switch and these icons are available on the outlet, but NOT the switches! The switches settings only offer a whopping 3 choices. A lamp, a vent, and an overhead projector? This makes no sense. Offer the entire icon lot for all devices. Second, I can find no ‘about’ section that offers links to faqs, a website, or links for support. I think that’s unacceptable and needs to change. Thirdly, and I’m not going to dock any more stars for this, the app hasn’t yet successfully allowed me to control anything from outside my home. The plugs are connected to my main WiFi router fine. All switches show as discovered. But I tried to access the plug from cellular only as it is advertised you can do this with this setup properly, and the app flat out told me to move closer to my device. ✓ How do you sleep at night?The newest update makes the app unreadable in dark mode. If I try to enable the welcome home feature on a device, the entire app crashes, so that feature is currently 100% unusable for me. Honestly pathetic. ✓ App doesn’t use phone clockI have used these for over a year (switches and smart plug) and like the feature to assign on/off by sunrise and sunset. Unfortunately, while the app knows what time these occur while setting the times, it doesn’t continue to adjust while running, so that every few weeks, one has to reset all times. Worse, when going off DST, while it has the correct standard times for sunrise and sunset while setting on/off, it changes them to an hour later when you save the settings. Unacceptable; one has to manually reset them every few weeks. Also, given that they’re connected to Wi-Fi, one should be able to control them through Wi-Fi, not Bluetooth. But the app is extremely buggy to the point where the timer is completely unreliable. App says it doesn't have location permission even though iOS confirms it does. Timer settings don't always save. App says I'm not in Bluetooth range (the only way to change settings) despite standing next to the device. I've had switchmate less than a month and have had to reset settings almost weekly. Also they claim batteries will last 8-12 months but I'm a month in and only have 60% remaining. ✓ Lots of promise, but going backwards.The device has lots of theoretical promise, but it'll probably take ten years to achieve said promise. People are saying it no longer works with Wink, and I was going to eventually get a home automation hub. Now it's just a standalone device that will never become part of an integrated smart home. It also could use some little quality of life features like turning off after a period of time, but they are gonna be delayed because the devs want to do an overhaul of the app. That will likely take a few months, maybe over a year I imagine. ✓ Please update!I have loved using Switchmate. I’ve got 3 light switches connected to the app. It’s made a huge difference in my life given that I have limited mobility. If one of my caregivers forgets to turn off the light in my hallway, I can turn it off without having to use up time & energy getting to the light switch and back. However, I can no longer use Switchmate. The latest update from Apple has rendered the app useless. Please update the app so that all of us who use it can continue using it. ✓ Setting the timeI like these switches and the app. It has been great for turning the porch light on and off every night and for turning the fan on when I am to cozy to get out of bed. However, somewhere along the line the internal clocks of my devices have become incorrect so now the timers are not working based on the times I set. ✓ Time zone changeThis product was working great until DST ended on Nov 3rd. I use this to control the lights on the front of the house and if I set the time using “sunset” the lights actually turn on an hour later than the assigned time. It’s as if the units don’t acknowledge that DST is over even though Switchmate tech support claims that its using the time on my phone which is the correct time. I know have to manually set the time for an hour past the actual time so that the lights turn on and off at the correct times. ✓ User friendly appThe app works great with the Switchmate products I have, which is why it was save from getting a single star. It mainly only works with Bluetooth if you want to use the app to control the devices. This means you have to be close enough to the devices for the signal to reach. I have most of the switches and outlets on a schedule timeframe so I don’t have to worry that much to turn them on and off. The main draw back is that my devices no longer work with my Alexa. I don’t know if it was the Alexa app update or Switchmate app update that caused the problems. Either way it was a selling point, with those products and this app, that it could be used with Alexa or Google home. With that feature gone, the devices and this app loose its quality. I just set it up on a daily schedule to control my lights and it worked great. Well this worked great for about 6 months and then the unit quit turning my lights on the programmed schedule. Upon emailing Switchmate they told me that I needed to update the firmware. I did and the unit still didn’t work. So I decided to buy a new Switchmate it immediately wanted me to update the firmware but I did not update the firmware and the unit worked great for about 4 months and then stopped turning on my lights on my daily schedule so again I decided to update the firmware in my new unit but to no avail the unit never would turn my outside lights on/off on my daily schedule. ✓ Won’t work with Alexa nowI set up two of these and liked them so much initially that I decided to buy two more. My first two set up easily and paired with Alexa. When I attempted to add the second two, they required a firmware update and after I updated none of the four lights will connect with Alexa. It previously had two links, one to connect with Alexa and one to connect with Google Home. Now it only gives me the option to connect to Google Home which I don’t have. I returned the second set I bought but it was past the return window to return the first two. I’ve tried deleting them, removing batteries for a long time, and deleting the app and starting from scratch, but it still won’t give the option to connect with Alexa anymore. Unfortunately after the latest update, the schedule for the switch set to repeat daily only works one day - it will turn on then off as scheduled within the first day, then it just stops working. I look up the settings on the app and it says the timer has not been set. It erases the schedule. The app also will not read the switch settings unless I cycle the Bluetooth off and on on my iPhone. ✓ Needs improvementApp is buggy - often takes several attempts to toggle switch remotely or there can be a serious lag I think sometimes you may be actually turning the switch on and off correctly but the app may be slow to update or give you a false error message, causing you to “double click”. This is especially noticeable when the switch is paired with the wifi outlet and controlled via wifi as opposed to Bluetooth. Timer schedule also did not seem to work very well and the cause of both problems may be that the app was slow to update to indicate the correct status, making the device or the timer appear as if being off when it is actually on, causing the user to double click or manually toggle the device to what is actually the wrong setting. And god forbid you put the app on more than one phone! Your problems will be doubled so just don’t do it. A great idea but needs to have the bugs worked out.EpostUserVersion: 3.2.9
