✓ Great app - helped me do what I thought was impossible!I just wanted to say thanks to the developers for such a great app. I really struggle learning lines, and having been cast in a play with a quite frankly terrifying amount of text, ColdRead totally saved my bacon. It can’t be stressed enough how brilliant it has been to be able to rehearse ‘as live’ with other actors no matter the time of day or night. Recording the other actors’ lines was a bit of a faff but nowhere near as time consuming as I’d worried it might be. The voice recognition is very good once you’ve tweaked the odd line here or there, and having the teleprompter style text is a great crutch as you get started. I did have to alter the default speed slightly but that was easy. As an added bonus, you end up with a digital version of the script that, thanks to the app’s night mode style colour scheme, is perfect to have to hand in the wings if necessary for cues etc. Overall this is a great app I’d highly recommend..Version: 5.1
✓ Good for learning lines quickly on your own.I’m a child actress and don’t like learning lines with my parents, so I downloaded this app. It’s really simple, and works really well when wanting to learn lines quickly on your own. However, the app knows when to skip to the next line once it hears the “cue word” (the last word in your line), but sometimes it doesn’t hear the last word you say correctly, and you have to repeat the last word, which could take you out of character :/ But overall the app is really simple and affective, I would 100% recommend it!.Version: 3.1
✓ Amazing, learn lines quicklyIt’s amazing. The only thing I’ve noticed is when I am walking my dog and want to practice, I put it in my pocket but the lock screen turns on by itself and seems to close the app. When I just hold it, I can’t lower my arm either. The screeen stays on but it doesn’t seem to function anymore. I was hoping putting it in my pocket and using my watch to control and my AirPods would work. So it’s best to just use this when you’re doing designated sessions and can hold it up to your face. But it’s not the end of the world, it’s been so helpful at learning lines way faster! ✓ Better than i thought!This app is perfect!! I used to have to bug my boyfriend to read for me all the time but now i can just do it myself! The app has a self tape function with a teleprompter so you don't even have to refer to your sides, and it cues the pre-recorded lines whenever it hears the last word in the script. Genius!!! I really do not like this. I think you should let us do more with this. This app is awesome but I can not use this for any of the musicals I’m doing, I would rather use a recording app with me saying other people’s lines and not talking during my lines, then I would listen to the recording and say my lines. ✓ Best line learning tool I’ve ever used! (Professional Actor)This is a genius invention that has made line learning such a seamless process for me. It allows for hands-free line learning experience, through which my voice triggers the “reader” lines via a “cue word” feature. If I mess up the line, and don’t say the final cue word, the reader’s line is not triggered. This causes me to learn lines with more accuracy! One user mentioned that sometimes the cue word feature glitches (e.g. you have to repeat the cue word sometimes). I would say that having to occasionally repeat a cue word is a much simpler thing to do than having to break character to press a button or do something manual on my phone. Also, because of the cue word feature, I am not constrained to a pre-determined interval of silence within which to say my line. I can take as long as I need with the line as long as I finish with the cue word! This genius app developer has somehow managed to replicate the experience of a live rehearsal with a scene partner digitally — it’s not always going to be perfect, obviously, because it’s an app. I’ve been acting professionally for 8 years and have been involved in film/theatre for 16 years. It’s the best line learning tool I’ve ever used. Highly recommend!.Version: 3.1
✓ The app I've been looking for.When you're trying to find somebody to read with you when it's necessary, they will be more up to do it. For final reads i'm sure most people would say yes. It's just when you start reading and you're still struggling over memorizing your lines and character. It's nice that you have that kind of ironed out before you asked me to waste their time. ✓ Saves the day!With casting agencies relying on us to be our own directors, DOP’s, lighting directors, editors and casting directors at home during the pandemic...this app saves the day!!! ✓ A must for busy actors!!!What an incredible discovery of this app. A friend told me about it because I’m constantly looking for someone to read/rehearse/self tape with for auditions. This app literally saves me in those situations where I have a one day prep time and need to get it done. It’s been thought out very well, and covers almost everything an actor needs from an app in order to get his/her self taping done ! Anytime you need someone to read with you or help you, this app is available. Not only that but you can also do your actual self tape recording here as well. ✓ Running your lines & taping teleprompter in one appI love ColdRead. It enables me to run lines with myself on cue and I can actually react while learning lines. I use this app several times a week while in my car. If I go shopping I switch my lines to reader mode and listen to the piece like a play. It is my all time favorite actors app. If I could change one thing, I would add an option to adjust the reader speed easily (which is also a helpful memorization tool). ✓ Exactly what I needed.Thank you for making this app. It is amazing. I’m practicing at the moment with my daughter, reading lines, staying in character is nearly impossible. This is perfect, the mountain I have to climb looks so much smaller now. It’s easy to use and the best part, is that it’s on my phone, not only saving me from carrying my bulky folder around, I can get better faster doubling my practice time by already having my scripts with me when I get a rare spare moment, like stuck in traffic or waiting for my daughter while she’s at tennis. ✓ Learning lines just got easier ...I’ve just gotten back in the acting business after retiring from a company I started back in the nineties. Things have really changed since I last trod the boards. The onus to provide video auditions now falls on the actor as self-taping has now become the norm. Couple this requirement while trying to cope with new technology just about overwhelmed your humble correspondent until I discovered the coldRead app. Having the ability to pre-record reader lines along with a neat algorithm to spit them back at you once you’ve finished yours is a godsend. There is a bit of a learning curve getting used to the app, but once you figure it out, it flows remarkably well. User tip: set Auto-Lock on your iPhone to “Never” to avoid interruptions. Finally, the only way this old actor (I joined SAG in 1972) can remember lines is by constant repetition and coldRead will repeat your scene over and over again until you hit the stop button. ✓ So helpful for last minute auditions!I really love this app- it saves me so much stress when trying to bang out 15 pages that casting wanted “yesterday” 🙄. It is clean, simple to use and I love the addition of the Apple watch remote feature. Helps me get in the groove quickly to have a “scene partner” to practice with but now I can control the scene’s pace as opposed to me previous line learner app with pre recorded timing. Thank you for making this!! My only request- record line with punctuation verbally (ie say “period” like in voice to text on my phone). I have to go back and put in all punctuation which is a bit annoying. I realize lines could have those words in them but it’s so seldom that I feel it is more useful to be able to verbally insert punctuation..Version: 4.6
✓ I've wanted something like this for yearsI tend to learn my lines while I drive and would record them on tapes to play on my tape deck, and later on my phone voice memos. But there was a science of timing I had to calculate to make space for the lines I would have to memorize. Having the listening option to learn them, then the mute function to work them is great! The sensitivity of the recording is taking some getting used to but I'm getting it. My only complaint complaint is I wish I could just buy this app outright, the subscription is a bit high. ✓ Great for Self TapesMy self tapes have drastically improved which beats all the time and favours it takes to get a person to read for you. We’ve all been there and it releases the pressure to take your time and get it perfect. You can have your friends or family simply record once to get the readers voice or record yourself. Then setup on a tripod as the reader. You can never tell upon playback plus the lines are there if you need it. Game changer. Love the improvements. It’s a tad expensive though would be my only complaint..Version: 5.1
✓ Very thankful for this!This is exactly what we need! I’ve used it three times now and it’s worked really well. So impressive. You do have to make sure to get the final word/cue correct and clear enough for each line to cue your “reader”. Fair enough..:no complaint there. I noticed that if My line is the final line in the scene I actually record that line...it will automatically start again, which isn’t super ideal for the final beat in a scene. But I generally don’t record my final line...so not a problem. Just something to keep in mind. Eases a huge amount of the stress that can come with self taping and arranging for a reader and having the dogs bark and your battery run low and you forgot to press record and all of the other things that come up while your poor reader is standing by on the phone or on zoom. ✓ Secret weapon for actorsIf an actor could sit down and just magically be able to make the app they need this is what they would create. I’ve used a lot of different apps that have features this app does but this is the only app that has all of those features plus features no other app I’ve come across has. The creator also takes your ideas for updates into consideration and implement them because they two are an actor. This should quite literally be to go to app for every actor. Every studio should recommend it to their actors and every Acting school should have it..Version: 3.1
✓ Great App... but needs audio fix for filmingI’m writing this review directly to you developers. I’ve grown to love this app lately so I went ahead and purchased a three month subscription. I would have given five stars, but the video filming function urgently needs an audio fix. After filming the scene the option to save two files is a bit odd. For some reason the first copy “reader” audio always sounds really lousy. The second copy seems to have been automatically balanced. But for some reason, almost every second copy I made during my recent filming had audio overlapping from the beginning of the scene into the middle of the scene. This meant I had to scrap the useless second copy and spend a ton of time editing the audio on the first copy. Not the end of the world, but definitely not functioning properly. Is this a problem you have been aware of? Are you working on a fix? If so, I will probably renew my subscription when the time comes. Thanks!.Version: 3.7.3

✓ My most used tool for learning lines...I’m a regular on General Hospital and we get so many pages to learn each day it can be overwhelming. I’m talking 30+ pages each day on set with a week or less prep time. We move fast and very few takes so being on point with your lines is essential. ColdRead has been absolutely clutch for me in making sure I show up prepared and confident especially when I don’t have someone to run lines with. It is a crucial element to my success. There’s such value in speaking the lines to be transcribed, and then editing them (if you choose), that cement the text in my brain so I can live the words instead of just trying to remember them. ✓ Almost perfectThis app is amazing. So great for practicing lines and memorizing. It has been a life saver for me. My one qualm is that I’m having issues for the first time now that I added Chinese to the languages for the app. I used to only use English. When I use the newly added Chinese it works just great, but now when I try to go back to other files I had recorded previously in English, it doesn’t recognize my speech as English anymore and I can’t get any of the previously recorded lines and cues to play through. I don’t want to have to delete/reset the app because I have all these existing files in there already and don’t want to lose them, but the app is now rendered useless for me when trying to get it to recognize my perfectly spoken English for the purposes of practicing lines and getting the app to pick up cue words..Version: 4.12

✓ Good app, some flawsI think this app is really great honestly, I just wish you didn’t have to type in a cue if you didn’t want to. Since it does have to option to just tap to skip, that’s what I usually use to cue the reader line. I just think it’s slightly a waste of time for me to type everything in, especially because I’m using this for a spanish assignment. I just wanted to be able to hear them ask the question and me answer, and then move onto the next. ✓ Great InvestmentThis app has been a lifesaver! What normally took hours, takes minutes now. With the amount of auditions that are self-tapes now, this app has helped tremendously. ✓ ALMOST the perfect app for running linesI love using this app, it’s perfect for when I have no one to rehearse with; the only thing that really bugs me is that a monthly subscription to this app is more than a subscription to most streaming platforms & I can’t even use it when I turn my iPad Pro sideways to try and use the keyboard attached; meaning I can’t really use it’s teleprompter features properly and I can’t use it to self tape. Another thing that would be great is if we were able to shorten the voice clips after recording them to get the exact timing needed for fast paced scenes. ALMOST perfect! ✓ Nice, but needs a few more features before I’m sold...Everything that’s in it so far seems to be working in proper working order, the only thing I’m noticing is that it doesn’t seem like you can change the quality of the voice at all so it doesn’t sound exactly like yourself. ✓ Amazing appAs an actor, I have been needing to get off book quicker and the best way is to run the lines. Obviously people have their own lives and aren’t always available. I love the fact that this app allows you to read as many lines as you need (for a few) I think what it needs help on is the importing lines function. ✓ Amazing app! Very useful.I absolutely love this app! It’s very hard for me to find people to read with me for my video auditions. This app finally replaced the need to have a reading partner. It works really well! It actually can detect when you are done with your line, and it plays the line of the other character right after your- making the scene flow naturally. I used to try to do this with a small voice recorder when I couldn’t find a reader in the past, but that was impossible because I had to rush my lines to match the timing of the recording. I am so happy that someone finally came up with this app. It also helped me memorize my six page long scene, yesterday in no time. None of the other line learning apps are actually useful. I paid for a bunch of them but they never stuck with me. This is the only acting app that does what it promises and I am sure I will be using on a daily basis. I am blown away!!!.Version: 1.4

✓ Great for a faux reader and helping you keep the pace and memorize!Would most certainly recommend this app to any of my fellow actors! It’s got so many great features you didn’t even know you needed. Before I was just using the apple voice memo app but that doesn’t allow you any variance in how long your line might take. The number 1 feature of this app in my opinion is the ability of it to recognise when you either stop speaking or say your cue word. Sometimes the voice recognition can get off but if you simply tap it goes to the next line. It automatically trims silence in the beginning or end too and you choose how soon after you speak you want the next lines to play! If the voice recognition was improved a little more this could legit be a great replacement for an in person reader if you don’t have one!.Version: 3.7.4

✓ It’s not perfect…lacking proper feedbackI’m happy with the current features but it hasn’t met my high expectations. What I wanted was accuracy detection. I can say the script wrong and I get no feedback on the accuracy. When I finish a script, it doesn’t jump to the top unless I set it to repeat. There should be some basic analytics like how much I practice a particular script everyday. I feel the price would easily be justified if it has the stuff I mentioned above..Version: 3.9
