Holedown for Negative User Reviews

50% luckFun game until you get to the ‘black hole’. From there on it’s a dead game that relies too much on luck of the level. Bring more challenge and more separate levels to the table 👍🏼.Version: 1.0.3

Fun, but Too ShortA really fun take on a familiar mechanic, but way too short. Needs more levels added..Version: 1.0.3

Not enough levelsThere are only a small number of levels to complete and at which point there is no longer any compelling reason to keep playing..Version: 1.0.3

Good but losing progress for no reason is terribleFun until you lose all progress for no reason. Played for three days then it reset on it’s own. If you don’t mind paying for a game that erases your progress then this game is for you. It’s a shame since the free games give you limited turns/lives unless you pay the iron price for more. Sometimes I feel like we can’t win.Version: 1.0.2

Not much to it for the priceFar too much luck involved and at times feels like the game plays itself. Fine if it was quarter-half the price but at this cost it’s not worth it despite the slick style..Version: 1.0.0

Was good, no endgameThere is nothing but indefinite play with no special goals once you’ve got all the upgrades and progressed to “black hole”. Both boring and annoying at “endgame” as the obviously procedurally generated levels can be unbeatable, it’s largely a matter of luck how far you’ll get once at black hole level... pity, because up to that point was solid up to that point... needs either more levels or something new at black hole level... otherwise very short game with no replayability....Version: 1.0.3

Could’ve been endless funStarts off strong but after maybe 30 minutes to an hour the fun ends. With the levels being Procedurally Generated I’m really surprised at how few levels there are. At the start you have limited balls and shots but with a few upgrades you get unlimited shots which really kills the challenge. Then you get to a point where the crystals you collect to buy upgrades become pointless because you maxed out everything. I would like to see more block shapes that cause the balls to bounce differently or black holes or gravity spots that pull or push the balls different directions (goes with space theme) adding to the difficulty..Version: 1.0.1

Was loving it until I lost my saveA really nice simple game with controls that feel really intuitive and responsive. Was enjoying it until I lost my save, there’s not enough depth here to start again so I’m finished with it. I can’t recommend it because of this pretty large bug. If they do fix it it’s worth the money for sure..Version: 1.0.1

Very polished but built for grindVery petty game with nice animations, sounds etc but no matter how skilled you are you’re going to have grind to progress. That annoys me..Version: 1.0.3

Meh...Game is ok, but way overpriced. Same screens but with higher numbers on blocks. 1 99 would have been adequate.played for 45 mins and already bored. At level 4 and the lowest block number is 45 with some at 80 and 90. Doesn’t really let you get playing.too many high numbers at the start. Well finished game. Already, only 4 planets and game over with no real reason to replay them. Come on guys ,3 99 for that.!!!!!!! Sorry 5 planets and a black hole ,which is pretty pointless..Version: 1.0.1

Needs more content and a restart optionPretty fun little arkanoid clone. There definitely should have been more levels, the game is way too short (gas planet, comet, dwarf star, plenty of potential level names). Also needs a restart level option. Yes I saw the dev response with the gimmicky workaround. If you know people want it and it’s an easy fix, just add it in properly already..Version: 1.0.5

With depth, but not enough. With the recent rise of ball bouncers on mobile (thanks in no small part to an absolute onslaught of advertising for these sorts of games), when I read Holedown’s description of “A ball bouncer but with some depth”, I was intrigued. And indeed it does have more depth compared to many ball bouncers! It felt less like I was just trying to make the same ideal shots over and over and that I had some strategy in my gameplay choices, but alas; the feeling does not last. Pretty quickly you’ll get to the “end” of the game which is an endless level, and very few upgrades left to purchase. The game should have had so much more than it did, and it’s a shame that the devs appear to have abandoned this game..Version: 1.0.3

Good gameplay, poor planningIf you like bouncers, you’ll like this. The gameplay is great and I loved the idea of buying your power ups as you go to unlock new worlds. But after an hour or so of play you’ve unlocked everything there is to unlock and the endless “black hole” level is basically pointless because the blocks start off too high to get very far and you can’t continue to buy the Starting Balls power up even though you’re still earning crystals. What’s the point of earning crystals forever if there is nothing left to buy to help you?.Version: 1.0.0

Badly ScaledPlaying on a Xs max and the game looks rubbish. 1/3 of my screen is just wasted space. Really poor use of the available screen makes the game just feel rubbish to play. Unfortunate..Version: 1.0.3

I want to enjoy the game, but I can’t.I find the game to be enjoyable, with a basic progression system. You can “beat” the game within a few hours, bringing a question to the $4 price tag. The game has the bizarre design choice of having NO WAY to disable sounds which are incredibly annoying. With an iPhone, the sound will play through Bluetooth or analog connected speakers or headphones so this game isn’t playable if im listening to music or an audiobook. Such an enormous design flaw that I’d say this game isn’t worth it, especially not at the ridiculous price point..Version: 1.0.0

Good but not much contentAs others have said, it’s a high quality game but really lacking in length. If you’re the type of person who enjoys high score chasing then it’s probably worth it, if you prefer structured goals maybe not..Version: 1.0.3

Lost all progressSo, while I appreciate the irony of losing all my progress to the update that was supposed to fix this.... lost all progress. Thanks for the sfx off button I guess? :(.Version: 1.0.2

Fun... UntilIt’s fun and addictive at first. Then you get to the fourth planet and the resource for upgrades completely dries up. If you’re lucky to last long enough you MIGHT get 1 or 2 but by this point upgrades cost so much you’ll be there forever. Wasted money.Version: 1.0.0

Really good game but SHUT UP!!I’d give this five stars except that you can’t turn the sounds effects off. I feel badly giving it even three, because this makes the game unplayable in some contexts. And it is the only game I’ve seen without the ability to turn off all sounds. With that easy fix, this is a five star game.Version: 1.0.0

Way too short$8AU for a game you’ll complete in less than a few hours is pretty rich. It could definitely do with a few more levels, but since the last update was a half year ago, I’m not holding my breath..Version: 1.0.3

Disappointing longevityDownloaded the game on Friday, and had a whale of a time for around 48 hours, then when I got to level 6 the disappointment hit. Level 6 is a ‘there is no way you can complete this level, just play for infinity amount of time’. I wouldn’t have minded so much, but because the game cost me £4 I do feel very aggrieved. I got 2 days worth of enjoyment out of it and now can’t play it because there is no sense of fulfilment. Real shame because the gameplay is actually good..Version: 1.0.5

Well made but no contentAll of the mechanics of this game are well made, and I like the idea of having an upgrade system in this genre. However, after you’ve played your first 2-3 minute game you’ve pretty much seen all of the content there is. The upgrades allow you to play longer, and the planets allow you to go deeper, but there is never an inkling of variety or new content, it’s just more of the same with slightly different colors. It’s still kind of fun because the mechanics are well done, but not really worth the money..Version: 1.0.3

No Restar ButtonYes, the game is kind of addictive, but there isn’t a restart button, which means that you have to finish the current game your playing, so if by accident you select a planet, star, planetoid or whatever you have to finish the current game or lose on purpose. If you want more balls, more moves or another level, again, you need to finish the current game or lose on purpose. But the worst happens when your current game freezes, kind of. Everything is still working but the ball freeze; so you can change the settings turn off the music, the sound, the language but you cannot restart the game, no matter if you close the game, even if you turn off your device, the game is unplayable. Your only option is to reset the game, which means that you will lose all your progress and achievements, you have to start all over again..Version: 1.0.5

No ReplayabilityThis game has a few well constructed levels, which are fun enough. Once you beat them, though, the game unlocks an "endless" mode, which is presumably meant to be the primary method of play. This mode is essentially broken, and was pretty clearly added as a hasty afterthought. The randomly generated blocks will frequently put you in unwinnable situations, which can be frustrating if you don't like being penalized for things out of your control. Maybe the developer will address this flawed mode in the future. But as of this writing, I cannot recommend playing this game for more than the brief introductory levels..Version: 1.0.1

Not worth 3.99(or however much)This game is fun and definitely one of the better ballz type games. It sorely lacks in different game mechanics and is not worth 3.99. The only mechanic is aiming the balls and upgrading them, nothing else. For 3.99 it should have interesting concepts as you level. There is also not enough content. For the price there are about five worlds,(and one endless world) each taking about 30-35 minutes to complete. I did find it enjoyable, but at most this game should cost 1.00..Version: 1.0.0

Too shortGood game. Needs more levels not much replay ability as there is nothing to work towards..Version: 1.0.2

BouncyUpdate: 1.0.3 version broke in-game music playback. It started playing, then stopped as soon as I selected an arena. Since then I can’t get the music to play at all. Oddly, sound effects work just fine. Great mechanic, great music, and so much potential. Different shapes, teleports, hazards, etc., would be fun enhancements down the road. The most mystifying thing is that you can’t quit a game and “return to the surface” once you’ve started it. The only two buttons are Resume and Options. This odd oversight is worth a star..Version: 1.0.3

Far too easy and short lived.Balance is all wrong. Finished in a few hours. Actually gets easier, not harder. Shame, lovely little game and just a few tweaks away from an absolute classic..Version: 1.0.3

FunThis is a great game and my go-to when I have a few minutes. However, on the endless mode, the difficulty really needs to change. Start easy then get harder. I don’t know why I can have up to 99 balls because it’s impossible to get far enough in endless to use that many. More levels would be great but I would really like to see the endless mode just get progressively more difficult rather than have blocks with 300 hits right off jump street..Version: 1.0.0

The Honeymoon is OverOnce you take it to the deep space “infinity” stage (obviously because they couldn’t come up with anymore planets) you get to enjoy 4-ball games because 90% of the time the game was over when it started. Not sure why they’re doing that. Obviously if you stuff the gap solid there won’t be many long games. My chief gripe at this point is that they need to give you an “end game” button to hurry the inevitable a little. Disappointing. This game had so much potential. Don’t even bother with the “infinity” stage. There are no more achievements forthcoming..Version: 1.0.0

Fun, but I continually lose my progressThis has happened four times now. I will get all the way up to the final level. I will make some serious progress (we’re talking up to 800m). I will go away. I will come back with no gems, on the first level with 2/3 balls. I will have blocks coming at me from the final level (200+ hits required). Of course, I lose. I lose all my progress. This game is engaging but I cannot recommend this to anybody with the constant save losses. I have had the game less than three weeks and lost my progress four times. From the last level! Heartbreaking..Version: 1.0.1

Great game. Not optimized for current screens.Holedown is a satisfying combination of peggle, pachinko, and strategy. But it is simply unacceptable to release a fully paid premium game in 2020 that is still not optimized for, now three year old, screen standards. Having a small usable play area, with a third of my screen completely unused with empty brown borders, is constantly frustrating; Especially given the aspect ratio of this game. The bordered areas are not even touch activated to start controls. Causing the game to not only be visually small, but also requiring you to control using the middle of the screen making it unnecessarily difficult and uncomfortable to play..Version: 1.0.3

Insanely addictive but maddeningly shortYou know those "incredibly satisfying" YouTube videos? Well Hole Down should be a candidate, the tension and release of firing off your salvo then watching the ensuing devastation is incredibly satisfying - especially if you don't crash. The frenetic animation and that neat trick when it all goes slomo when you under cut a pile of tiles is very well done. Biggest disappointment is that I got through all the - admittedly samey - levels much too fast and the replay value of the "infinity" level is limited because there is no end target and my interest tanked after that. You're also too OP to replay the earlier levels by that time. It would be great if the developers could introduce some more mechanics to the game to change it up and keep it fresh (random ideas - gears and cogs "portal" blocks, time limited power ups etc).Version: 1.0.1

Agree with the reviewer chakvooGreat game and a great idea and theme for a game, but it’s way too short and has no replay value and incredibly lazy and boring level design. If you’ve never played the new style of aim and shoot brick breakers like the millions of free ones on the App Store, you will probably think this game is a blast to play, but if you played those kind of games a bunch, you might be pretty disappointed..Version: 1.0.2

Enjoyable but meh, not worth the priceThe play style of Holedown is solid! I love to aim the line at different angles and watch the onslaught of balls Ricochet off of everything, it’s satisfying! What’s not satisfying though is the 3 hours I spent going through the games worlds. They have an endless world however there is no sense to play because there is no variety in the abilities you purchase. Plus the boss battles at the end of each world are just the exact same boss but with a higher number to bring down to defeat it. Ugh! That’s lazy. You guys could’ve made them different shapes, or have them move around or SOMETHING! Rather than the same circle of doom at the end of every level. This is definitely NOT worth $4 you all got greedy, this is a $.99 cent game up and down the board unless you have new worlds and abilities planned for the future. Shame really, because it feels really great to play, oh well..Version: 1.0.0

2 hour 5 StarThis is hands down a 5 Star game for the first 2 hours or so. After that, you’ve essentially beaten it. The final level is an endless blackhole....which is fun and all, but by the time you get to it, you can no longer upgrade your starting shots to actually compete. Eventually you’ll just run across a puzzle piece that is numerically impossible to defeat. For the full price of this game there needs to be more levels, more shapes, more Upgrades....more something..Version: 1.0.2

AWESOME - 3 stars - really should be 5This is simply the best while-away-a-few-minutes-here-and-there game I’ve come across since Seven many years ago. Perfect blend of simplicity, skill and feel. I can’t put it down - but..... Minus one star for lack of game length/options - I’ll add a star if there’s more forthcoming - it so deserves more Minus one star for confusing/faulty Game Center set up - I want to play on my iPhone then pick up where I left off on iPad. Game Center inclusion suggests I ought to be able to but nothing works. It’s not at all clear what the ‘Game Save Reset’ button is for but switching it on just sends the game right back to square one with all progress lost. As a web designer/gamer, I’m not stupid (well comparatively) but I can’t figure it....either there’s a bug or it ought to be made clearer. It’s s tribute to the game that I am restarting having lost all my progress. Like others tho, if it happens again I think the game will get binned. I LOVE this game - I want to give it five stars - frustrating!!!!! Edit: After completing it it’s slightly disappointing that it actually gets easier not harder - once you have lots of upgrades you can hammer the last level first go without much thought. Needs rebalancing I think - upgrades are too plentiful - might be nice to have to hit other targets to get them. Bit of variation.....Version: 1.0.3
