✓ IrreplaceableI use OmniFocus for deep project tracking, and it’s positively irreplaceable. For a long time I thought I needed to pick one to-do manager for everything, and I tried to pick The Perfect One... and then try to shoehorn everything into it. I finally realized that the right tool for the task sometimes means similar tools - hey, I have 3 different sized needle-nosed pliers in my toolbox, why not the same idea in software? I use OmniFocus for work projects; from overview to unlimited detail, I can see what I need when I need it. I can jot things quickly on my phone when they occur to me, and then organize them later on my Mac, and it all syncs perfectly and instantaneously. With the Pro purchase (well worth it to me), I use custom views and add client logos to their project views to make zeroing in on them easier. And to keep from being overwhelmed when actually working, I can easily use the Focus tools to see and stay in just the parts I’m working on today. Overall, it’s a fantastic tool. There’s more complex elements that I just don’t care about (due dates, dependencies, stuff like that), but they’re easy to just ignore; OmniFocus doesn’t force me to work their way, they let me work my way. ✓ The best of the BESTI have been using OmniFocus since 2011. Each new version whether major or minor update makes the app better. A lot of people pass up this app because it’s either too expensive or too cumbersome. The old saying “you can’t judge a book by it’s cover” is defiantly true here. Yes, it is expensive, but it pays for itself in how easy your life can become if you take the time to use it. It can be as hard or easy as you wish. Over the almost 10 years I’ve used it I have learned things along the way that I wishe I had known earlier. There are several resources online with video tutorials, to help you get started. Their new subscription model will make it easier for those on a budget. Not enough can be said about the custom perspectives. I’ve got several set up for different things like work, grocery store, Netflix items I want to see. When I walk into the grocery store, I tap the grocery store perspective and all the grocery items I entered in are there. Something in the future? No problem, set the deferred date for the date in the future, and forget about it. OmniFocus will bring it back in view on that date. Do you have trouble remembering to review your task list, don’t worrry OmniFocus reminds you to do that at whatever interval you want. It really is the BEST when it comes to task or project management..Version: 3.8.2
✓ Still the gold standard for GTD. Not for basic usersI think this app gets a lot flack for its price and complexity. If you just need a simple Todo list. Then don’t spend money on this app. If you’re trying to implement GTD, this is app is great. It has one killer feature almost impossible to find elsewhere: DEFER DATES. This makes it the only app I can use to manage my lists. Unlike Todoist and other apps, you can hide tasks you can’t actually do. It also has a review feature, location reminders and you can program your own custom perspectives. It’s a lot to learn but it’ll be hard to leave once you do!.Version: 3.4.3
✓ Still the best after many yearsThis for me remains the top choice as productivity app. Integration with Siri is perfect. The ability to use the Review function is great. It’s capability to use perspectives to see what is only relevant at any given time is super useful. I have tried many other apps and I always come back to OmniFocus..Version: 3.11.2
✓ Very nice update to OF2It feels fresh, and the enhancements (notably to the Forecast panels) are very welcome. Changing “Contexts” to “Tags” was a great decision and has made that incredibly useful now. The one and only request I’d have is to be able to create task templates whose due dates are relative to the parent. (E.g. drop in a set of tasks where I can set the due date to 3:00pm on [project’s due date] - 2 business days.) I’m very happy with this update and it’s made its way to truly being my backup brain in personal affairs as well as business now. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 bravo!.Version: 3.0.3
✓ The most powerful and flexibleWith OmniFocus, I can handle just about any project or chore that comes up. The app is designed around customization (of your productivity workflow), and it shows. I currently use Now, Next, and Soon tags to organize my actions, with a sprinkling of tasks with actual due dates, but I can tweak my workflow just about any way that I want to. This level of power combined with usability keeps me coming back to OmniFocus despite having tried just about every other task management app out there. My only desire is that OmniFocus was as innovative and smooth UI-wise as the newer apps. But this is a minor complaint..Version: 3.8.1
✓ There is no equal.OmniFocus by the Omni Group helps me run my business. I'm a GTD practitioner and have tried ALL OF THE APPS. OmniFocus allows me to create my very own workflow, and doesn't tell me how tasks should be structured. The watch app allows you to receive a perspective from the iPhone and work with it locally on the wrist. Very cool. Can't believe I have not actually taken the time to write a review as I have used the app since 2012. Looking forward to ver. 4, and will gladly pay to update the app when the time comes, and I use it on Mac and iPad, too. Made by great folks (who I have had the pleasure of meeting at their previous office) who care a LOT about customer experience. ✓ If I could make one changeLove the new version of OmniFocus! The improvements make a huge difference, especially once you dig into the new settings and make use of the new perspective tools. If I could make one change, it seems like calendar events are sorted into the task list by end time and I wish there was an option to use start time instead, it just makes more sense for how I think about tasks in relation to my day. ✓ Fantastic productivity manager with continual improvementI’ve used OmniFocus since version 1 and have found it that it is indispensable in collecting, organizing, and completing the things I need to get done. I saw the glowing reviews on version 3 and was expecting to be blown away. I was not. I downloaded the 14 day trial and as I used it more and more, I began to uncover the various features that convinced me to buy it. One feature (that I consider small and simple to execute) that is still not included in the mobile version is being able to see the date that an item was completed. I have numerous multi-tiered projects that last for many months. When reviewing a project, the question as to when a certain task was completed often arises. I can see the completion date on the Mac version, why not the iPhone/iPad version?.Version: 3.0.3

✓ Probably the bestLike many here I’m always on the look out for the best task manager. Yes some aspects are a bit confusing. If you add a task to a project it disappears off the daily todo so it’s easier to forget. I just want to see all my todos in front of me. I currently use about 4 list managers and am trying to cut down to no more than 2. Support from Omni is second to none so for me this is the go to task manager. ✓ Welcome UpgradeFor me, the odd parts of OmniFocus have always been contexts and notifications. Both are entirely fixed in OmniFocus 3. With prior versions, I wound up not using contexts because it didn’t really fit how I think about tasks, tags are much better. The new notification support is much better; often I just want a gentle reminder to complete a quick task that is due. I no longer need due dates that are actually earlier than the due date! I question the placement of the persistent free trial banner; I already knew I was going to buy the app but I did so sooner rather than later just to get the banner out of the way. See all the tasks you can do on you phone? Sure Only ones on computer, due soon? Why not Only tasks marked “active” or in certain projects? Yup Any view you can dream up, you can do. So it’s easy to see only what you can work on now. Further, omnifocus has really great apps across all devices: apple watch, ipad, mac. I love seeing tasks on my watch face. ✓ A truly exceptional app, updated to make it even betterOmniFocus is an elegant and meticulously designed app that has no equal. I’ve tried dozens of personal productivity apps across all major platforms, and nothing even comes close. Omni Group really sweats every tiny detail, and it shows. This new version replaces contexts with tags, but in a way that is a true superset of the previous functionality. You can now associate an arbitrary number of tags with each action, which opens up a lot of options that were difficult or impossible with the previous version. It’s a little thing, but being able to dock the sidebar and inspector in landscape mode on the iPad makes me significantly more efficient dealing with a large volume of projects and actions. Looking at my current OmniFocus database, I have 397 actions broken out over 225 projects. No other software can make managing the volume and velocity of my work such a breeze. But it is by far the best task planner and manager available, with simplicity in day to day use but tons of functionality to set things up the way that is best for you to get things done. ✓ More than a task managerOmnifocus is the best task manager that I've personally used, but just calling it a task manager does it a disservice. Omnifocus helps me manage all of the projects (big or small) in my life. It does have a steep learning curve at first, but I encourage those who are discouraged in the beginning to play around with it and find a system that works for you. ✓ Apple-like......In that I don’t really enjoy using it, but since it’s the still best option, I will pay a large sum of money to get the job done. Please consider rethinking the home screen layout, it just isn’t very useful and makes it hard to see what I need to at a glance. Get another UI person to come up with some ideas or something. I don’t know, I’m just an idea guy. Please consider bringing over the colors/bolder fonts from the Mac app, that while aren’t perfect, still add a lot in terms of visual cohesion and the ability to make sense of things in a somewhat cluttered interface. Please use more white space so it’s easier to tell items apart. It just looks like a cluttered mess of text most of the time. This is still the best option, and really the only app out there that can scale with the volume and complexity of your projects. Also, review is great for gtd. But please, pretty please, overhaul the interface with an emphasis on clarity, usability, and easy differentiation between items on the screen. This should have been the focus of the update, imo. What I’m paying for instead is iPhone XR screen size, the ability of the app to not crash constantly like OF2 does now, and tags. Which are great. ✓ If you’ve struggled with the plethora of other options - this is the one…I had originally passed over Omnifocus because it was so Apple-centric. That was a mistake. Microsoft has had decades to improve the task manager in Outlook. Complete fail. Thank you Omnifocus for providing the tools to create a microcosm of where I can create an environment, including MY structure (folders, projects and tags) where I can comfortably and reliably dump the contents of my brain. Don’t bother with so many of the other apps, too numerous to name here. Start with Omnifocus. Develop the structure that works for you. Be patient. With time, the method will emerge. You’ll wonder how you ever did without. Did I mention that your tasks can be synced to the cloud and you’ll be working with the same task list on your iPhone, iPad and Mac? ✓ I have given 5 stars, long time userI will give 5 stars because they do deserve it and it has to be one of the best. I do feel though Omnifocus are pricing themselves out of the market & also their 1 star reviews are bringing down their overall ratings a lot I feel mainly due to the price - why? Because when you are one of the most expensive on the market, customers don’t even want the smallest of problems. I’d suggest they do something about it because if they don’t get many reviews and many 4/5 star reviews they may see themselves slowly disappearing from the ranks which would be sad to see because this truly is one of the best apps on the market for project and task management both for personal and business. Also reviews and the number of reviews matter when it comes to new customers, if Omnifocus had reviews all the way back from version one they would have thousands of reviews and probably a reviews score better than it is with OF3 which started as a fairly buggy version. Maybe do in app ‘Upgrades’ instead so you can keep hold of all of your reviews rather then starting from scratch every version. ✓ Fantastic updateAfter using OmniFocus 3 in beta for the last two months I couldn’t be happier with the update. This was a day one upgrade for me as well as the very welcome new coat of paint the new features have genuinely had a positive effect on how I manage my work. OmniFocus continues to be the only app which tackles the availability of tasks in a meaningful way. If knowing what you can to do right now is important it’s the only choice. ✓ I keep coming backMuch of the “negative” reviews are opinions about the licensing model, learning curve, etc. Pricing model: I bought the app + pro upgrade for iOS. I’d love to have it on my Mac but don’t want to pay for it. While it would be nice, I don’t consider it crucial at this time because the iPad is more than sufficient. Learning curve: If you want an app that works “out of the box” then pass this one by. If you want one that can completely revolutionize your thought process around organizing your life then check it out. ✓ My Digital BrainThis app has done quite a lot for me; it has kept my brain together by keeping me organized and on task for the past 7 years. The organization tools have always been amazing and OmniGroup just made it better with OmniFocus 3. Tags are a great new addition along with custom reminders, drag and drop and a lot of other great additions. I pay for the Pro upgrade to create custom Perspectives and I’d honestly pay more based on the value this app provides me. My wife and I credit this app with getting us on the right path with our finances early in our marriage and the value of that cannot be overstated. ✓ Solid, but Needs Drop Down CalendarsI fluctuate between using Things and OmniFocus. While I don’t think OmniFocus needs to become more like Things, I do wish it would drop the date wheel altogether and use a calendar drop instead. The solution used now is a mash of the two, and for efficiency sake and a more modern look, having a full calendar month to work off of is just better. Could also use a cleaner more consistent font size (maybe even an entirely new font) and better use of space, but it still is a super solid task app and I thank the developers for getting much of it right. So all said, OmniFocus does a better job with weekly review, option controls, wrapped text (very annoying omission in Things), and attachment support..Version: 3.1.2
✓ A Must Have For Productivity!I recently upgraded from OmniFocus 2 to OmniFocus 3. At first I was a bit disappointed. Stylistically the app doesn’t look much different than the previous version until after a few days later when I realized that there is so much under the hood. In fact it is a brand new an incredibly powerful productivity tool that has maintained the same familiarity that its users have grown accustomed to, while adding tremendous amount of power and flexibility, so much so that I would say whether you follow GTD or any other system, or you want to make your own OmniFocus can support that. The note field is absolutely incredible. You can add an email and it would display as if you are viewing it in your email client. Tags are incredibly powerful and easy. Custom perspectives can organize your data however you like to view it . While you can customize the app to such degree that it no longer looks like when you first got it, it is incredibly powerful and useful right out of the box. Another feature that I absolutely love is the Review Perspective which is so unique to OmniFocus and not offered by any other productivity app on the market. I can keep writing but all of this is a testament to the OmniGroup for their ability and understanding of how to make us more productive while enjoying the process. ✓ Best there isNo app is perfect, regardless of what kind it is or what its purpose is. OmniFocus is no different. It’s got its things where I feel it could improve. With that said, it’s still the best out there in my opinion. It’s a little too pricey I think, especially compared with competitors. I’m sure many people won’t even give it a try because of the price. But I bought it anyway, and I’m still satisfied with the product. I tried Things 3, and although it’s a nice app, it just wasn’t as full featured as I needed. And something about it just didn’t lend itself toward helping to motivate me to be productive. OmniFocus, however, has done its todo job well, as well as helped motivate me. Anyway, my suggestion, don’t purchase unless you’re committed to doing it. Try it for 2 weeks and give it a fair shake. ✓ Best productivity appI’ve been using this app for years. I ran into my first issue because of an iOS upgrade. I sent an email and got a response with a few hours to fix it. So, not only has the app been great for years without any issues...the one time an issue did pop up (not Omni’s fault) they had it taken care of immediately. ✓ IncredibleLongtime user, 8+ years. To put it simply OmniFocus lives up to its name. As any great tool - it’s power and utility is determined through the work of the user rather than the tool itself. The first two years were overwhelming. The next three were revelatory. Since then - it’s proved only to be indefatigable and indispensable. The most powerful thing you can do is consider and craft your Perspectives to suit your needs. Tags and Projects are only a foundation to GTD/organization. It takes persistent focus and flexibility (given energy levels - a quick store trip might fit best in OmniFocus to auto appear on arrival or a scrap sheet of paper impervious to fall damage) - and over time — you’ll have exactly curated task lists appearing only as needed and most critically just in time/place through location-initiated arrival & departure tags, completing the Review tab and respecting defer vs. due dates(overdue has to bring consequence). ✓ An app that works how I thinkI’ve been using OmniFocus since version 1 happily and have always struggled to get the organization to feel natural. Data is multi dimensional. Something may require me to be at home but it may also require someone else to be home. Tags finally introduce this multi faceted approach to data. ✓ Finally. Worth the Upgrade.Been an OF user since v 1, then 2, but left for others (including Things) when OF became convoluted, cluttered, and just plain no fun to use. With OF 3, however, the app is back. Two big improvements for me: tags replace context (it fits my work flow better, more flexible) and improved perspectives (or saved searches). I give it 4 stars rather than 5 because the overall interface is still a little clunky, cluttered, and there are tons of options for drilling down searches (good for some folks, too much for others). Setting up location alerts doesn’t make much sense, but OK. Before I upgraded, I took advantage of the trial: Prove to me this app is actually improved and I will use — and enjoy using. So far so good. The upgrade pricing is fair, too. Not 20 or 25 percent off but a full 50 — 60 is now 30 and much more palatable, considering I’ve spent way too much dinero on OF, Things, and others to find one that I will actually continue to use..Version: 3.0.3
✓ Tabs are actually OK.As a legacy user I’ve vehemently resisted being forced to tab on other lists and been glad that Omni have traditionally offered an easy context route to keep me targeted and GTD workflow. ✓ Great appI really love this app. Helps me stay organized and on top of my tasks. Really love the defer feature and now the tag feature. The sequential projects are so perfect for my workflow. ✓ Keeps me saneI have used Omnifocus for several years on the desktop and iOS. It keeps me sane and on top of what needs to get done. There is a lot of power here, so take the time to use the trial and see if it makes sense for you. ✓ Meets you where you areI’ve tried a few task managers and this is the one I’ve stuck with for several years now. You can be as simple or as intricate as you want with it. Honestly, you can just begin using it by adding tasks to the inbox and checking them off from there without getting into the other functionality - then add in the other capabilities (projects, task groups, folders, tags, etc) if and when you need them or want them. Once you really get going with OmniFocus, one of a few standout features of it vs other task managers is the ability to create custom perspectives. Once you figure out how you want to use these for your own life and work, they are incredibly powerful. Many excellent resources exist out there for getting the most of this wonderful software, and the company is a great one to support. After many years of trying out all three, I’m very happily settled with Omnifocus as the best overall task manager. Some key wins for OF: - The review mode is a must. In other task managers, I’d create tasks in a pretty interface but then the tasks would get lost because I wouldn’t feel nudged to review. - The ability to add sub/dependent tasks. In other apps, tasks that aren’t actionable would clutter my lists because they were dependent on other tasks. - Powerful batch editing. For me, I never used perspectives much but I find the tags just work better. Can’t explain why since they work in a similar fashion. While waitng to see what the OmniGroup would offer I (oh nooooo!) went to the 'dark side' and have been using Things 3 for quite a while. Through this, though, I have always had the feeling that OmniFocus is the best of the bunch, the tool that the pros would use. ✓ Best to do app - I’d love better calendar integrationI’ve tried every single task management app that exists for iPhone or Mac. OmniFocus is the best, especially now that it supports tags. The ability to set start dates rather than (or in addition to) due dates also makes a big difference. You can also set reminders independently of whether and when you set a due date. ✓ Omnipotent - The BestI’ve used OmniFocus off and on for a few years. I loved it. It was powerful and comprehensive. But I still found myself trying others looking for some kind of app that would do my work for me. Or at least show nice pictures when I got overwhelmed. Lots of these were good, several were great but I missed things in OmniFocus. Then I did a course by Darren Hardy and seriously upped the level on my time management and focus skills. I went from expert in theory but not getting the results to finally a genuine practitioner, where action is the only conversation needed. Now when I reviewed advice from James Clear, Damon Zahariades and SJ Scott and others, I had new insights to making things work for me. And that meant going back to OmniFocus and it is the only product I have found that has the power I needed in the To Do management field. I use it in combination with Evernote (holds the knowledge of the universe) , Forest (my anti-distraction defence system) and a habit tracker called Productive. Omni Focus allows me to do some really clever things to leverage the lessons of Darren Hardy’s Insane Productivity Course. I’m not going to list the features as many apps have these features to some degree. It’s about how you set things up to work in a way that removes the noise and allows you to focus but capture the things that need doing. The reason for me is its strong support for enabling trust in whatever workflow you develop. Anyone who has used a task management app for more than a month or two will know how easy it is to loose actions in some corner of the database. Omnifocus handles this problem in two elegant ways. Firstly, the pro edition (you’ll quickly find that this is essential) has a highly flexible Perspective generator, for example allowing a view of stalled projects - those which don’t have any available actions. Want to generate a Work view; Home, Errands, People, Overseas Holiday? Easy. V3’s support for Tags greatly extends the possibilities from V2’s basic GTD Contexts. ✓ Gold standardOne of the key tenets of GTD is being able to trust your system. Once a task has been captured, you can relax in the knowledge that it won't be lost; won't be forgotten. OmniFocus on my iPad, iPhone and Mac give me that confidence. The GTD system is centered around the concepts of Projects and Contexts, which previous versions of OmniFocus supported elegantly. Contexts in particular were a powerful tool, but sometimes frustrating to organize. It was hard to fit every task into a single, meaningful context. The “big idea” with OmniFocus 3 is the change away from context to tag. Tags work exactly like contexts did previously, but you can have many of them on a task instead of one. This is a major game changer. All my tasks were migrated to the new version with no problem, with my former contexts converted to tags. Now I'm rethinking everything about how to use tags in more flexible ways, especially using geofencing tags (like a “Home Depot” tag and a “Lowe's” Tag on tasks to pick up potting soil). OmniFocus 3 oozes quality and craftsmanship which I've come to expect from the Omni Group. As a loyal customer, I did get it for a discount, but it was an insta-buy anyway.
