Safe Wi-Fi for Negative User Reviews

Bugs and dishonest billing practicesThis app works, sometimes. Certain networks with splash pages make this app unusable entirely. Sometimes it says it connected and then it drops. It doesn’t inspire confidence in its functionality at all. The worse part is the dishonest billing. This app is sold as an add on through Verizon, but it’s a third party app. When you try and unsubscribe through Verizon it won’t work (even if it says it did). You’ll have to contact customer service or keep getting billed for a service you aren’t using. Even though they can prove I wasn’t using the service I still got billed for two months before I could finally get it cancelled..Version: 3.0.1

App want workThe app doesn’t work at all..Version: 3.0.1

Don’t waste your time or $I signed up for this five months ago. It has never worked. What’s worse is that when you try to cancel on VZ website, you get an error message that tells you to try later! It’s been five months now and each month I have to request the fee reversed and the service cancelled. I spend 20 minutes doing this each month because they can’t cancel it either!!! Just did it again with the same issue (supervisor can’t cancel it and needs to look into it)..Version: 2.0

I’m paying but can’t use itI have paid for this and I am still paying but for two months the system has been down. What’s going on??? It says every time I try to connect that “We’re having trouble connecting with Safe-Wi-Fi and to try again later. I call about it only to be told, I cannot get it. Am I being excluded from a service because of something? Explain why I am not getting it, but I can sure the world pay for it..Version: 2.0.2

RipOffReceived message alert from Verizon that line legible for “add-on”. Chose the Safe WiFi as it was listed as “FREE”, confirmed $0 monthly charge to my account. After app install and setup I kept receiving alert messages on phone telling me LTE alert light issues occurring, but data usage not affected, Verizon working to resolve issues. Decided to uninstall app, and when I went into my Verizon account to remove “add-on” I found that my account was actually going to be charged $3.99 a month!!! How did the “add-on” go from “FREE” to “$3.99” in less than 10 minutes??? RipOff and False Advertisement!!! After 6 years of being a Verizon customer, I’m very very disappointed with Verizon regarding this issue..Version: 1.3.14

WiFi SecureIt logs off and on of safe WiFi while your logged in.Version: 3.0.1

Is this the right app?First of all, I don’t understand why I have to have so many separate apps from Verizon to do the things that seem like they should all just come with the service. What am I paying for again? And why doesn’t my cell phone company automatically want to protect me? Why do I have to jump through hoops to get the protection that should already be provided? Further, is this free or not and is it supported on Apple iOS or not? The web site says that Security & Privacy Single Device is free and that Multi-Device is $7/mo. But when I try to run the app (which I shouldn’t need to download separately) it wants me to sign up for the $4/mo Multi-Device plan. Huh? At this point, I am more willing to risk the dirty public Wi-Fi than go down this confusing road... Get your website and your app to jive. More importantly, put the functionality all together in a single source (app). Most importantly of all - make it invisible to the user because it’s included in the service plan on the back end..Version: 1.3.12

Seems to workI confirmed the app is not free as advertised in the My Verizon app. However, after searching for similar apps with VPN services, I was unable to find another that offers automatic VPN when connecting to an untrusted network for the same low price of $4/mo for all devices on my Verizon bill. So far that feature appears to work, so I will continue to assess the app during my 30-day trial and update my review as needed..Version: 1.3.14

WiwfIt never connects.Version: 3.0.1

Can’t connectI have downloaded this app 3 times for my iPad and get the same message that my phone number is not recognized...WHAT?!?!? My iPad receives Texts and FaceTime calls, so why won’t this app recognize the phone # that it seems to recognize for other apps? Does this mean that, because my iPhone is covered by safe wifi that my iPad is also covered?.Version: 3.0.0

Good, but has a big issueThis seems to be a good VPN solution. I have tried several and I like that this seems to be pretty fast so far, doesn't have data limits (at least not that they tell you about) and that it turns on automatically based on what you're connected to. The main issue for me right now is that it essentially disconnects me from WiFi. While they say I'm not using my data, apps think I'm not on WiFi and behave as though I'm on a metered connection. I have several social media apps set to not automatically load videos or gifs when I'm not on WiFi so that I don't burn through my very limited data. This creates enough of an annoyance that I end up turning this VPN off most of the time just so that my apps can see that I'm on WiFi. Verizon says they are working to correct this issue and once it is corrected I'll update this review accordingly and easily give it 4 or 5 stars..Version: 1.3.14

Blocks most WiFi sites, not usableMost of the time, the app simply blocks the WiFi site, (the scenario at almost all motels) and I cannot use the site unless I turn off the protection. I assume I am wasting $3.99 a month, but maybe the sites are dangerous to use. it reminds me to be sure that I really need to access the site, although I don’t know if that is intentional..Version: 1.3.14

Not really helpful for my on the move life styleI travel climbing cell phone towers for T-Mobile and Dish Wireless. They both offer me service at a discounted rate for there too plans. Plus a free phone once a year. I choose not to use that service provider because when I cut power to the tower to do an upgrade I would totally loose service. So I choose to go with Verizon Wireless for there support in customer service and reliable coverage. But…… they offer insurance on there IPhones and it says like 20/30$ for screen replacement lies lies lies lies they just told me 240$ after I was in a wreck that was determined by the Georgia state patrol to not be my fault and my phone screen was busted. I called and talked to the support manager and he all out said he did not care about my wreck and he would not hold up the the insurance plan I pay 20 $ a month for to have my phone fixed if anything were to happen. So now I’m just out of luck on a phone and have to buy a hole new one and guess what. Verizon just told me I don’t qualify for an upgrade or financing to help me get a new device. Some things are a lie and they do not stand by there word or help there years long customers..Version: 3.0.1

Internal Server ErrorI keep receiving Internal Server Error when starting up the app. Update - I was able to resolve this issue by deleting the app and reinstalling it. If you upgrade from iOS 12 to 13 there is some issue where you have to reinstall Safe Wi-Fi..Version: 2.0

Lots of issuesThis being a pay per month service one would not expect to have so many issues. Update Frequently have to delete & reinstall the app. Recurring messages “not connected to the internet” when my device is connected. Request Please update this paid VPN service for the iPhone XS which when on cellular data is also open to WiFi automatically which makes it vulnerable in unsecured WiFi situations which the iPhone user may not even be aware of. Thank you for the service you are providing for Verizon customers! Update Deleted. Does not work with an iPhone XS!.Version: 1.3.14

Doesn’t workI downloaded and set up this app about two weeks ago. I connect to 3-4 Wi-Fi networks a day and this app hasn’t worked one time. I regularly get notifications from the app that there is no internet on wifi and I should check my connection and try again. My Wi-Fi is working just fine every time I get this notice. I tried to unenroll from this service today and ironically I get an error that my request can not be completed and I should try again later.....of course!! Also not once when I enrolled did it say that this was a free 30 day trial and would be $3.99 a month after, I found this out when googling reasons why the app might not be working..Version: 2.0

No longer workingNot sure if the problem is connected to recent phone updates but no longer works. Verizon CS couldn’t fix.Version: 3.0.1

Deceptive and Fraudulent Marketing PracticesThe app itself does a good job of protecting the user while surfing public WiFi. The best part is the auto On/Off feature. However, there is a BIG problem. I am a long-time Verizon customer. I was alerted to Verizon's "free" Safe WiFi App and decided to download it. I believed that Verizon had a genuine interest in protecting my mobile communications and would not put money ahead of providing this desperately needed service. There are plenty of other opportunities to find additional revenue streams throughout its business model. Verizon wouldn't sacrifice its customers' mobile security for the sake of the almighty dollar... would it? Apparently, it does! Despite listing the app in the Apple Store as "Free" versus "Free+ (offers In-App Purchases)", Verizon has begun to charge me $3.99 per month to protect me. A subscription where I was never notified of a trial period nor was ever prompted to click to accept such terms. I have to pay the big, bad Verizon mob protection money to keep me safe when I'm out in the mean streets. Unbelievable! I either want Verizon to provide this service for free or clearly advertise it as an app that is free to download, but requires a subscription to use..Version: 1.3.14

This app is nightmareI am giving 1 star because I don’t have any choice, I am traveling.. arrived at the hotel connected to hotel wi-fi and got message that I feel like I should try it out but almost 4 hours chatting on line with Verizon I don’t even know how many people I had to talk to ... last person seems like solved problem but ... no... still same ... keep kick me me out ...vpn status off this is the message i am getting .. just deleted Lost sleep in first day of my trip ....Version: 1.3.13

Useless !!This app is very frustrating to say the least . It has not worked correctly since I installed it . Basically crashes all the time ! Customer service is a joke . I am literally on the phone with them everyday for one issue or another . This has been going on for 2 months ,with no foreseeable solution..Version: 3.0.0

False advertisementBeware of getting this......for starters, it’s supposed to work and protect your phone against WiFi connections that aren’t secured. Well, it caused WiFi to basically not work at all for me. Also, nowhere in the description of this app does it say there is a monthly charge of $3.99. Yet I’ve been seeing my monthly bill grow larger each month since I had it. Turned out it was because of this app..Version: 2.0.2

Very disappointedGiven I am a Verizon customer, I thought this would be an easy and reasonably inexpensive VPN feature. I was very disappointed in the stability of the service. Sometimes it worked well. Most of the time it was didn’t. I kept it for 4 months to test it. Ultimately, I gave up. An overall frustrating experience..Version: 2.0.2

Got Safe Wi-Fi, but never seems to be ‘ON’I got the Safe Wi-Fi Verizon App because it was described to me as it being or working like a VPN for my protection, but never seems to be ‘ON’ when using it, as if it doesn’t work..Version: 3.0.1

Great while it worked...This app was working until the latest iOS (12.1.2) was pushed to both my iPhones. It just stopped working as it says the phone can’t connect to safe wi-fi. I tried uninstalling it, rebooting the iPhone and reinstalling it, but that didn’t fix anything. The vpn profile doesn’t even show up in the settings section. My iPad runs on an older iOS version and has absolutely zero issues..Version: 1.3.14

No consistent protectionI have been having a lot of issue in regards to activating this app when I am on WiFi. It no longer connects even after re installing again. When I am on WiFi it tells me am not connected to Internet when I am able to browse and also when it shows that it’s turned (green) on the app without the VPN icon displayed on top of my screen ,when I check the protection detail , the network is unprotected. I have turned on and off the “ automatically start safe WiFi when I connect “ under settings and it used to help reactivate it but now that doesn’t even work. I have called customer service and my issue is not resolved. This happens on public WiFi also personal..Version: 2.0

Kills speed!I tried this app because I thought it would be great when I travel, and it probably would be. However, I did a Speedtest and found that it reduced my download speed by a factor of 10. Also, one reviewer said that even though Verizon claims there is no charge, he started being charged $3. Even if this isn’t the case, the reduced speed is unacceptable..Version: 1.3.14

FYI- This is a scamIf(Verizon) { return isFraud; } Typical crap I expect from Verizon, tell you one amount, and charge you a completely different amount. If you too thought that this was an inclusion into your already very expensive phone plan, you’re wrong. I even looked through the entire TOS to see if there were additional charges incoming on later months, and there is no mention of it. It’s only AFTER accepting it that you are told there will be additional charges AND fees incoming..Version: 2.0

Great - until you have a slow connectionWhen you have a good connection - I really like this app. Does a great job and the ability to safe-list connections is a great add. The downside is that it is nigh impossible to turn off if the connection is weak. Which basically renders you completely unable to connect to WiFi without removing the app..Version: 2.0

App is GarbageThe app will show that you are protected but keep giving notifications that you are not connected to a network. And even though the app says it is on, it shows that there are zero protected networks and 2 unprotected (because I have 2 networks). This app is absolutely useless!!!!! What a crooked company to even offer this. And to beat that, it shows as and add-on to your plan..Version: 2.0

BrokenThis app didn’t work the way I wanted it to.Version: 1.3.14

Shame on you VerizonI found out about this app while looking at my service plan. It said it was free/included in my plan. It was not represented as an app at all. Just said included free and all I had to do was click and enroll. (Hmm why do I need to enroll in something that’s included....should have been my first clue but the way it was worded made it seem fine. After clicking enroll I’m get taken to the App Store. What??? That’s bad enough. Then I start reading the reviews. I always look at “most recent” . What good is a review of a version from a year ago? I very few people were happy. I better not see a charge fir this on my bill..Version: 2.0

I once had this with no problem. It comes with my total mobile protect so I was all good. I went to use it one day at an Apple location using their WiFi & it only gave me an option to click on a $3.99 when I did it wouldn’t allow me to use it because it stated I already had subscription with total protection. Smh I have no idea what could have gone wrong but I don’t like it so please you guys fix it, thank you..Version: 1.3.14

Deceptively promotedI thought it was included with my plan. Gonna delete this sucker..Version: 3.0.1

Didn’t workIi have tri.Version: 3.0.1

Doesn’t want to connect to the Wi-Fi at my houseI have been trying to get it to connect for 2 weeks now and I get error message saying I need to connect to a Wi-Fi network in order to use it but I can’t get the stupid thing to connect when my phone is already connected to the Wi-Fi have no clue as to what or why it’s like this but getting frustrated with it and I’m about to delete the app.Version: 3.0.1

False Advertising! When I signed up for Safe wi-go it was advertised as free. When my bill started going up each month, I checked to see why. I found that I was being charged $3.99 + taxes each month. I was never told that the app was free for 1 month, then being charged $3.99 + each month. I am so disappointed in this under handed way of charging more money to loyal long time customers..Version: 2.0.2

Not worth $4 a month for a non existent connectionSigned up for this joke of a service and it's been nothing but trouble. It always screws up my Wi-Fi connection process, never connects to a server, and whenever I try to remove the service from my Verizon account all together it refers me to the my Verizon app. Every time I've tried that other method it gives me an error message saying I can do that right now. I've even tried a freaking browser with no success. I want this service off my account now! It's not worth $4 a month for VPN that never works! It's nothing but a complete waste of money!.Version: 2.0.2

NOT FREE OR USEFULAgree that this was pushed out like a virus - offered for "free" (probably with some buried fine print) then BOOM without warning $3.99 a month! If it worked more than half the time I might have kept it, but it was a nuisance that blocked WiFi access most of the time. No thanks and SHAME ON YOU for the deceptive marketing! NOT what I expected from a company like Verizon! Not to mention it took 2 hours to connect with a human being to figure out what was happening and cancel the service. If this is what Verizon has to do to compete, I may consider shifting to the competition..Version: 1.3.14

Great app but...Great app to keep you safe and price is perfect if you are a version wireless customer or free. I would rate this as a 5 but the app will not work if you are flying as Gogo wireless free messaging blocks VPN from working. When this happens the app is a pain. You have to turn it off deep in the config to NOT automatically enable when Wi-Fi is used. It missing a very important feature where by you can say yes auto enable except when using a specified list of Wi-Fi network so that I could add Gogo inflight Wi-Fi. If the developer can enhance the app as suggested I would rate this as a big five star..Version: 2.0

Good idea, but...Good idea, but never really seemed to work. Dropped my WiFi every time I used it. Got to be a pain to go back and reconnect. Not on an unlimited plan so was a big deal to be on WiFi, especially at home! Definitely not worth paying for.Version: 1.3.14

VPN icon fails to appearFIX THIS APP!! As of November 2019, the Verizon VPN still fails to appear in the upper left-hand corner of my iPhone when I turn the VPN on. This is a major hassle since I can never tell if I am on VPN or not. In order to determine if the VPN is working, I have to go to the iPhone Settings where I discover that sometimes the VPN is on, and sometimes it’s not. Meanwhile, I am burning through my data plan. I’m beginning to think this is a ploy by Verizon to get me to “upgrade” to a more expensive Unlimited Data plan..Version: 2.0

Not working junk. This app has been dead for a long time. Bad for verizon developing apps that they can’t maintain..Version: 3.0.1

CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT waiting to happenSame as other reviewer that stated Verizon added this charge to my monthly bill because I downloaded this supposedly free app that doesn’t indicate in-app purchases. I never agreed to this subscription service. Luckily, I was able to have the charge removed, but how much money has Verizon collected? I feel a class action lawsuit is in their future..Version: 2.0.2

Brand new pro max. Techs need to make sure working at set up.Didn’t work. They wasted allot of time. Why isn’t Wi-Fi secure not working. Expensive Phone..Version: 3.0.1
