AudioLayer for Positive User Reviews

More soundsThe last update they bought more sounds and it's definitely a lot better thanks. Not quite five stars but very close to it.Version: 1.1.0

The best on iOS… let’s make it betterThis is the closest thing to a kontakt-type sample player for iOS because it has multi-layer and round robin support. What would make it even better are the following: a purge unused function, multi-out support, batch editing for multiple zones, and macro (customizable gui?) support. Obviously, these are just suggestions and I can get what I need out of it as-is for the most part. Hopefully the developer will continue to develop this great tool!.Version: 1.7.0

Yay! Finally!!!Finally finally finally, a proper stand-alone sampler for iOS for building multisampled instruments! Now don’t get be wrong, there are some truly wonderful and amazing samplers for iOS, but just about all of them are oriented towards beat making or chopping or experimental sound design, not building full fledged multisampled instruments. One kinda-sorta exception is the built in sampler in BeatMaker 3. It’s a fabulous sampler and you can build great multisampled instruments with it, but it’s confined to BeatMaker—which is a full on DAW, not a standalone sampler. AudioLayer, on the other hand, can be used standalone or from within any iOS app you like as long as it supports AUv3 (including BeatMaker 3). AudioLayer also has some critical features that any respectable multisampler should include that BeatMaker 3 lacks: - Round robin - Automatic sample mapping based on file names - Automatic sample mapping based on detected pitch The automatic sample mapping features are HUuuuuuuUGE time savers. Building a large multisampled instrument without them is beyond tedious. OTHER GOOD THINGS: - iCloud integration just works Why can’t more apps do this? Create an instrument on one device and it’s saved to iCloud and available on all other devices. - Pitch/Filter/Level sections are great Super simple and straight forward. Organized so you can easily apply changes to a single sample (zone), a layer, or all samples in the instrument. If you’ve ever used an Ensoniq sampler (EPS, ASR-10) you should feel right at home. - Effects section, also great Sounds great and shockingly easy to use. - Interface on iPhone, also great Just as usable on an iPhone as on an iPad. Quite an accomplishment. SOME OVERSIGHTS: - No adjustable curve for crossfade loops Being able the adjust the curve for a cross fade is crucial for creating seamless loops. BeatMaker 3 and many other samplers allow this. - No threshold option when recording Yeah, you can truncate the sample by hand before you save it (which is great), but this another common sampler feature that’s missing. Again, BeatMaker 3 has this option. - No normalize gain Another basic feature that’s missing. WISH LIST: Would love to see some sort of option for automatic slicing and mapping of single recording. Here’s how it would work: - Start recording - Play or sing a series of notes into the mic - Stop recording - Select a magical “auto slice and map” option - AudioLayer auto-detects and slices and maps each note.Version: 1.0.3

2 Thumbs UpLoaded up a few .exs exported from Logic and works like a champ. Not had a bash at creating my own kits and instruments yet, but for me the .exs import feature and auv3 get 5 stars..Version: 1.0.4

Almost perfectIve been using sampling keyboards since the mid 80s (mirage, emax, etc) and love the fact i can now sample without doing math in hexadecimal. thanks, this is exactly what i wanted. a couple small improvements id suggest are: 1. better file management, such as the ability to edit sample names and move samples around into various folders 2. a bit reduction effect to simulate vintage 8bit, 10bit and 12bit samplers, 3. a recording sequencer modeled after the Mirage’s 333 note sequencer, and 4. and this may already be there but i havent checked- a simple 1 click button to split layers up into key ranges..Version: 1.0.1

AudioLayerIt’s a really dope app please fix the crashing it crashes a lot thank you!.Version: 1.2.1

I’m in love 😍Whoever created this app needs a million dollars 💵, just Because he or she is freaking genius. So long I’ve been looking for a app like this 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾.Version: 1.0.4

OopsI really like this app it faithfully facilitates the auto sampling of timbres from my hardware synths into a performance environment within AUM ...sonic heaven 🙏🦄.Version: 1.2.2

Freaking awesome!!The latest update with automatic sampling is just awesome, to be able to bring in some of my desktop VST’s for on the go is great.Version: 1.2.0

WowOver the top amazing. I dont think any other app comes anywhere close to what can be done with samples in audiolayer. Get ready to create super cool layered sounds with a ton of control. I have not found any missing features, only more than i ever expected. I am still discovering things after a few days of intense usage. Wow..Version: 1.0.3

Audiolayer version 2Hey developers I really love AUDIOLAYER I WAS WONDERING IF YOU GUYS Plan to make a version 2 in the future?.Version: 1.2.2

The only real true multi layer samplerThe sampler can import logic sampler files. What more can you ask for.Version: 1.5.2

I like what I see (& hear)!Update: It needs a ribbon controller option❣️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Only a couple of minor issues so far. Those I sent to support. 1) Context sensitive help for the Para EQ displays the Flanger help instead. 2) When I touch their icon in the upper left, the IAA transport bar displays through or on top of the info screen. At first I was disappointed that there is only (so far) context sensitive help but unlike almost all context sensitive help I’ve seen to date, it actually does explain things fairly well. A detailed user manual would still be welcomed as there is a lot here to ‘play’ with here! The UI is very easy to use. The ease of instrument creation using virtually any sample or simple mic recording is truly phenomenal❣️ More later after I’ve spent a few hours playing with AudioLayer. PS - App could use note hold/key latch feature. Also, keyboard octave sector needs to be place-able anywhere. Not only by increments of displayed keyboard width..Version: 1.0.0

Midi Features PleaseAudioLayer is really great! I use it live in AUM. I run into issues with AUM when I run too many instances. To avoid this I would like to run all my sampled instruments in one instance of AudioLayer within AUM, then mix between the various instruments (or combinations of) using sliders on my midi controller. To do this AudioLayer needs to support midi assignments so I can adjust the level of each layer individually from my controller! Please add this feature and then this is the perfect app for me. Without it I’m really limited with live use..Version: 1.2.1

Excellent! Finally an actual iPad sampler whose functions are not buried beneath trendy bells and whistles. I had no problem air-dropping in samples from my laptop. So easy! I was able to quickly build a multisample instrument with over 20 samples, each with their own unique settings. So far I've worked mainly on the "zone" level but am looking forward to exploring the other editing levels. I am using it solely as a stand alone app so I can't address any plugin issues. I also don't quite understand the "scope" situation; specifically why the default is having it off for each zone. I hope the future manual will explain the whole "scope" thing more thoroughly. On the top of my wish list is deeper real time midi control over editing functions. Specifically I'd love to be able to control sample start and loop points via midi cc. That would be excellent! But over all, Virsyn continues to amaze..Version: 1.0.4

IPad 2018 - absolutely amazing!!I was anxious to buy this based on reviews stating it crashes so often, but I thought I’d take the risk. I’m so glad I did. This app is unreal. It’s so powerful and easy to use once you’ve spent an hour (as a pro user) with it. I wish for more modulation controls such as being able to fade in layer volumes using CC001 mod wheel. My only criticism is that the price may alienate some customers. I’m very happy to pay this price because I can extract the most from it, but I fear that the consumer level customer will be put off by its high price tag and steep learning curve. Lower price and better education will make this a winner. Love love love!.Version: 1.0.4

It just keeps getting better and better at making “instruments”. Best in Class.Over the course of several years, AudioLayer has adding import capabilities for EXS24, SFX and *now* SF2 soundfonts. And once you import these collections of samples you can continue to edit them and make even more complex and amazing instruments. Storage works on IOS device, iCloud, or external storage and you’ll probably want to build a massive collection. Importing samples from anywhere and importing them into AudioLayer is so easy and powerful: either by filename conventions, root pitches or sequenced. There’s a nice rack of FX functions to add and lot’s of control over layers, zones and such. And now AudioLayer shares instruments bi-directionally with the KARO sample based Xinematix app so that’s yet another way to pull in samples for instrument and sound design purposes. It’s the most powerful auto-sampler and instrument builder on IOS..Version: 1.9.1

Just GR8After this update its stable exporting is not crashing anymore but I still wish that the sf2 file should work everywhere so I can play it here and other places or should be exs24 export thanks.Version: 1.1.0

Crash happyHello, i have an iPad Pro 12.9 updated to the newest iOS and , this application always crash’s when i open it up… please fix this issue.Version: 1.9.0

PleasePlease please please add warping! This is already a fantastic app, what you sacrifice in storage space you gain in performance (lifesaver on older iPads), but the true potential here is huge - you can add layers upon layers of samples per note and split the whole keyboard into as many zones as your keyboard has keys… But if only it had warping like in Ableton sampler, this would be the best app hands down, since any sample could become its own instrument and you would only need a handful of samples per synth to simulate the whole keyboard. Not a small ask by any stretch, but I’d be willing to pay if it were an add on. Love this app !.Version: 1.4.0

FantasticWould be great if it had an oscillator and invert phase function.Version: 1.8.0

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANTIt’s a sampler and it’s great!!!! It simple to use plus not to mention a genius idea!!!! Why keep loading and setting up samples in BM3, Cubasis, Roland Zenbeats etc….. It’s an AU load everything here and load multiple instances in your daw!!!! No brainer right?!?!?!?!?! In addition to that you can save everything so when you buy a new iPad you just re-download you don’t reload!!!!.Version: 1.5.0

Brilliant.Seems a lot of outdated reviews on here… So far I’ve found it a really nice app, for me the main downsides are; it makes my old device hot and drains battery fast, so it’s frustrating when I have to use a different sampler when out and about (frustrating because AudioLayer is a favourite). AudioLayer seems to concentrate more on being a sampler so although some other iOS samplers have a lot more features they aren’t features that benefit the actual sampler. You can always you other plugin’s to get better results so I don’t see it as a problem. AudioLayer stays more focused on being a sampler and as a result you get a better sampler. It’s got a lot of control over your samples and is a fantastic tool..Version: 1.8.0

My favorite app for iOS music so farThis is pretty much the only thing missing from my arsenal, now I can put away the laptop for good. Not only that, it is better than the alternatives on the laptop. I have been sampling since the ensoniq ASR-10 and this is everything I’ve always wanted in a sampler. Super super happy with the features and the GUI and the workflow. THANK YOU VirSyn!!! Couple notes, I crashes periodically in AUM for me and needs to be reloaded. Turns red with an error message. Second, one feature I’d request is an undo function. Seems like a no-brainer to include. We all make mistakes from time to time..Version: 1.2.1

Finally a full sampler for iOSI am shocked that this isn’t rated 5. This is the only true sampler for iOS and it is amazing. Everything is laid out in an easy to understand way so even beginners can get right to making a multi sampled, well, anything. And the more you delve into it the better it gets. Just the fact that it has the ability to auto sample makes it great. If you’ve ever used any hardware sampler, Mirage, Ensoniq ASR-10, Akai S series etc… this is what you are looking for. Hopefully in the future I would like to see some basic additions. Maybe a bit crusher to emulate older samplers or such. A more extensive EQ. Minor things. If you’re serious about music and making your own sounds, buy this..Version: 1.4.0

Pretty incredibleLove it.Version: 1.9.6

DIY InstrumentsThe updated manual which details support for SFZ instruments and importing them is a welcome addition as you can really dive in to create your own custom instruments or modify existing ones you discover. It provides links to other resources to take advantage of what’s possible with sample instruments. The visual feedback in AudioLayer is excellent for troubleshooting your sample instruments to verify they’re working as you’ve intended. The disk streaming works well to allow you to use large detailed sample sets. These sample instruments allow you to create various timbres from the same sample set. Round robin functionality allows your playing to be more varied and rich rather than mechanical. There’s a wide range of high quality sample instruments available online. You don’t have to settle for the same old ones and you can customize them to make them your own. It’s a very efficient app and won’t grind your iPad to a standstill when you run multiple instances of the app. There are some very nice instruments and useful orchestral instruments you can download from within the app..Version: 1.4.0

The killer sampling app for i-devicesI'm old enough to remember carrying a Yamaha CP70 and Rhodes to gigs. Now I have a better piano in my pocket - on this app running on my 2016 iPhone SE! What makes this possible is the .exs import feature along with Logic's autosampler. There are features I haven't touched yet but the ones I have work well and I'm surprised at how many AUv3 instances of this app I can add to my AUM setup with no hiccups. At least a gigabyte of samples so far, and I'm adding more - again, on a seven-year old iPhone with the base config. I also use an iPad 9G and everything works there as well. I'm still a bit confused by how the "scope" checkboxes interact with the zone & instrument levels, and I recently had an issue getting samples in iCloud to move to my local device, but I'm confident they'll be sorted soon. I'm not aware of any other similar sampler app for iOS/iPadOS, let alone one as full-featured. I've been able to replace my MacBook Pro rig on some pretty big gigs thanks mostly to this app!.Version: 1.7.0

Great samplerGreat sampler, especially once you get to know it better, some of the features may not be that intuitive but it has some great features and the new Auto sampler is something I’ve always wanted in an IOS, i love being able to sample patches automatically from non AUV3 apps. The 2 features that I would love to see are time stretching so if I auto sample something with effect or modulation the sample doesn’t spreed up as I play higher note, and a feature that auto chops samples across all the keys automatically. I have ReSlice that doesn’t that but would love to have that feature in AudioLayer because of the much deeper ways you can affect layers and key groups independently. Besides that I think this is the best IPad sampler..Version: 1.2.1

Amazing, and also hopeful about updates!Update #1 - Ok, so AudioLayer needs: 1.) Better local file management. 2.) Move/Sort imported exs/sfz instruments into folders. I’d Like: 3.) SFZ Import I’d really Appreciate: 4.) Full SFZ Support (live text edit/reload) Either way, I use AudioLayer almost daily, and it fully deserves 4 Stars. I’m hopeful I get to update this again in the future to a 5..Version: 1.0.4

It works great!Works perfectly in KeyStage..Version: 1.7.0

Works with brand new 2024 iPad Pro 13“The app works great with the brand new iPad Pro 2024 13" model. This is my go-to Sampler so I am happy to report that it remains a top-notch product!.Version: 2.0.0

Fantastic, but missing basicsA lifesaver app for iPad which provides all the essentials for creating and importing and performing samples, excellent synthesis and effects, layering etc. And it’s an AU. Two fundamental things missing. 1.No undo. Essential for when creating zones and layers etc. 2.Cannot choose a specific note to create a new sample zone. Imports always start at C0. And the included auto detect function is not exactly reliable, or even meaningful in certain instances. This would be perhaps ok if you could edit the root key of a sample after dragging it, but you can’t. Moving zones across the keyboard doesn’t move the root key designated when imported..Version: 1.0.4

This is one of the best samplers! Some feature requests!- please oh please have a store or easy way to download sound packs. (Users could even contribute content) - timestretching would really really be huge! I want to import a sample, lock the tempo and pitch it up and down. If it could legato slide, perfection. Love virsyn.Version: 1.3.0

Great but no manualLike many other app designers this company makes great apps but then a musician who needs to know how it works needs a manual, sure there is on screen help which does help a little. Please provide a manual, even a toaster that you stick bread in gets a manual. Its a really great program which is let down by instructions. I have so far had no crashes. Also a youtube Demo would really help... thanks.Version: 1.0.4

LovelyClosest thing to Kontakt I’ve seen for iOS. Sound s great..Version: 1.6.1

Feature robust sampler. Missing modwheel pitch modulation, though. The one thing that attracted me to this plug-in was that you can import SFZ and EXS files. I have not had any luck importing EXS for sample packs, but SFZ works fine. Another thing that makes AudioLayer attractive is the ability to layer sampler instruments on top over each other, in the same instance. It also comes with some pretty good effects. My favorite is the Drive effect. There’s also a wet/dry knob for effects to control the insensity. I’d throw a 5 star, but not having modwheel support for pitch is a bummer. What’s weird is that you can see “MWheel” control on the FILTER page, but not on the PITCH page. To Harry: Can you please add MWheel to the PITCH page? That’s all I’m missing to make my lead sound jazzy. Thank you very much for all your hard work on the plug-in. I really appreciate it..Version: 1.6.2

Exactly what we need on iOS!Audiolayer is a traditional Sampler. If you're looking for fancy beat-slicing, Sample Mangling and Granular, look elsewhere. However, for those of us who come from a traditional Sampler background (think old-school Roland Samplers), Audiolayer is very reminiscent of that workflow. It's as straight forward as it gets. Load in your samples, map them including velocity layers, add some effects from the very capable built in effects section and you've got yourself and old school Sampler on a modern digital platform. Hopefully we'll get some updates, because IMO this is a very underrated Sampler! Great work VirSyn!!!!.Version: 1.0.4
