✓ Scammed out of $500I downloaded the app to buy crypto, I put about $500 before the app started asking for personal ID. I decided to read their private policy and decided I didn’t want to share nor trust my personal info with this app since they share your ID with third parties and assume no responsibility. Now it won’t let me withdraw my money unless I give them my personal information. I have emailed and tweeted the developers but haven’t received any response. Be warned, that they do not protect users personal data and use a third party for facial recognition which may use your personal info and doesn’t promise data protection or liability if you ID is hack or stolen. If the developers required this, it should’ve said it from the beginning, before making transfers. This was unfair practice on their part..Version: 2.14.0
✓ Bait and switch. Used to be goodBuyer beware. High fees and removal of key features. I used Gemini. Not casually, I had near 100k in there and out of the blue they removed the features that were the sole reason I ever opened an account there. So I can no longer do lace Limit orders. When I contacted support they offered no help and no condolences. They offered access ActiveTrader but made it very clear they have the right to pull the rug out from under me at any time and take it away. How is that for confidence building? Imagine if your bank treated you like that? This was actually a good thing. Gemini has been taking advantage of me with egregious fees. Gemini should not be charging a fixed percentage fee. ✓ Very disappointing customer serviceThis app seems like t would be great. That being said I was not able to utilize it because they don't accept my credit union. That's fine, totally understandable because it is a fairly local credit union. What I absolutely hate about this app is the customer service. After realizing that my credit union is not supported I tried to cancel my account. This is where the trouble begins. To close an account you have to contact the customer support team. After sending a detailed message as to why I wanted to close my account they have replied 3 times with a generic answer every time. ✓ Inexistent supportThe look and feel of the app is great and also is easy to use. Nevertheless, the account verification process is a mess. I have more than one month waiting for their authorization. In the meantime, they allow you to deposit money and buy some crypto. But watch out! You cannot trade it, withdraw or move your own money until they finish the verification account process. Then you try to contact them and there’s no answer, no support, no customer service, etc. at this point, I just want to close my account but I can’t do that neither until they finish. I tried to trade my crypto for another one and they say that I should deposit more money. It’s incredible! I can’t do anything but they want more money from that. ✓ Card problemsI put a little bit of money in to test out how it goes up and down, did this three times with several transactions. My card was connected fine. Then all of a sudden it doesn’t show up when I press withdraw, but appears in my payment methods when I go to profile. ✓ Not Very User-FriendlyGemini is great for casual investing such as mine— but it could be more user-friendly. My USD balance showed -$125 after I had made a $125 investment from that balance. When I made the investment though, I had well over $125 in my balance. The balance changed randomly. I’m trying to deposit $125 from my checking account to pay that “debt,” it wouldn’t let me use my debit card. I added the debit card again, and it was just a wild goose chase trying to get it to work. I just updated the app, so maybe some kinks have been worked out. The balance definitely needs to be addressed. I’d also like to see a screen where you can see how much of the money in Gemini was your initial investment. ✓ Transferring BTC or any crypto out is a painTLDR. Small selection of coins and they try to make withdrawals as difficult as possible. Very confusing interface for withdrawing BTC - Thought that adding approved addressing would speed the process up but instead I have to wait 7 days. The only way I can take it off is by emailing support and that takes days to get a reply from. Also even though I used the device for months before, I had to get Authy to withdraw and that blocks withdrawals from the device for 24 hours when you start using Authy. Also small selection of crypto assets in U.K. version - that is actually one of the main reasons I am moving from Gemini to Kraken and also takes a much higher fee than Kraken or Binance. Then the second month come and they locked my account for some reason. When I try to message their support team I only get the same email resend, probably by a computer, to me. It says something like “we are experiencing higher than normal support tickets” or something like that. But they’ve been saying this for over 2 months! I am very displeased and would not recommend this app. If you are going to start your crypto empire I would suggest Coinbase over this app. P.S check the better business bureaus if you don’t believe me. ✓ Has potential, but it’s just bad.Not sure where to start. You have to log into a separate browser to use the Gemini Trader interface, which has lower fees. Should be able to do it in app or just have a separate app. I can’t figure out for the life of me what my cost basis is for each coin/token easily. I saw it once and can’t get back to that screen. This will be a NIGHTMARE come tax time. I don’t want to see in the history that I bought 1.9 of whatever token on this day. It’s not helpful at all if you can’t see what the price was in your currency. Which leads to the fact you can’t ever easily tell if you are up or down, because it just tells you that you bought x amount of tokens on this day, and there are no graphs to show you if it’s individually up or down. It’s also impossible to figure out how your investments are doing as a whole, because it shows you that your entire “portfolio” went up when you make a deposit or withdrawal. I mean this is the most basic of charting to see how your investments are doing, and this app has none of it, which is quite shocking. Gemini app is good, desktop online version is better. For what’s available to US Citizens, it’s probably the best. App could easily be 5 stars with: ActiveTrader access, better reporting which actually showed cost basis, current % gain/loss, current USD gain/loss, the ability to see all of your individual holdings/and portfolio’s value in BTC value, more BTC trading pairs ie; FIL/BTC, MKR/BTC, MANA/BTC, ZRX/BTC, COMP/BTC, AAVE/BTC, AMP/BTC, REN/ BTC, SNX-UNI-UMA-1INCH-GRT/BTC. etc,etc you get the point. Some people happen to believe that fiat USD is toast and that accumulating BTC is the way to build wealth. I’m giving them 1 star because you can easily connect your bank account to give them money but it is extremely difficult to withdraw money from your Gemini account. You have to submit a photo of your ID which is a security issue and apparently it can take weeks to get verified even if you do. Be sure you know that your money will be tied up with Gemini for a while before you can access it. They very quickly take money from your account but make it very difficult to withdraw money and it takes a long time. If this review elicits a response from the developer I’m guessing they will say they do it to protect your account, etc. I just want my money. You probably would too and you have very little recourse. As a consumer, I would stay away, regardless of what the developer response is. Telling me you are keeping me from my money for my own protection is not valid. Coinbase isn’t any better from my understanding. Apple App Store users expect a good experience and this isn’t it. ✓ Disappointing waiting timeI downloaded the app after the Winkelboss twins went on CNBC during the Robinhood/Gamestop events. Its has been nothing but a frustrating experience ever since. My account says that is approved but it’s pending my identity being verified. In the meantime, i have opened accounts on other platforms and banks with virtually instant approval and verification. This company is simply not ready and they are not prepared to provide a great user experience. And they don't support dogecoin. I’m going to try Kraken. But just to make it even better, they take half of what you already have had in your wallet for months, and decide to lump that together. After a few weeks out of the blue they decided they needed to verify me again. I sent my credentials in over and over and over again. I sent both invalid US passport and a valid California drivers license. Every time, for months, they said it was too blurry. It was nearly 5 months when I tried again and basically told him I was going to take action if my funds were not released to me. Magically they verified my identity at that point. Now I’m back on there and I’m trying to sell everything because I’m obviously it going to use this app. My bank card is verified for buying crypto on the app but for some reason they will not let me use it to withdraw. It seems to me that the Gemini app is designed in a way that’s convenient for them but that creates many obstacles for the user to have access to funds. ✓ Good idea, but poor executionThe idea of this app is great but it lacks big in terms of an investment application. The data for prices changes are delayed and not in real time for each crypto, but that’s fine. My biggest gripe with this application is how awful the portfolio tab is. There is no way to break down your transactions and fees; all you are given is the amount you spent to get x amount crypto, the fees you paid are not included in this. This renders the application essentially useless from an investment standpoint. Does Gemini expect me to write down each transaction fee in order to keep a running tally and figure out whether I’m up or down overall? I want to see in real time if I’m at a deficit or making money. If you purchase crypto the same day your portfolio will simply tell you that you’re up however much percent based solely on your deposit/purchase. Frequently unable to process buy orders, but I think that was across eToro and Coinbase at those times as well. So, in summary I don’t know much more than when I saw the Winklevoss Twins on Realvision, but I still believe in Bitcoin and I’ve found Gemini ok, and I think the Winklevoss Twins are trustworthy. ✓ App is fine service is nonexistentGemini app is fine, it would be better if they had an active trader version on the app. An annoyance is that if you have your crypto split out in Earn and Trading you cannot actually see the balance together. In other words you have to add up the quantity and value yourself. The real complain with Gemini is the service. Being new to this, I accidentally said yes to the “Authorized Addresses” security feature, this was a mistake. It sounded good, more secure right? It’s fine until you actually want to move your crypto around. You have to manually get each withdrawal address approved which takes a full 7 days. You only really want this feature on if you plan on using ONLY Gemini for your crypto investing which probably will only apply to complete beginners since they barely have any coins. So why not just turn the feature off right? Well you can’t, at least not yourself. You have to contact their support which doesn’t appear to exist, not in my experience at least. ✓ Find something better or whatever you invest will get trappedI’ve had Gemini for a couple of months already, but have just recently started using it. After setting up my own wallet, I tried to transfer my funds to my new wallet, but while going through the ropes of connecting the two, the app got hung up with unexplained issues in red letters telling me there was a problem. It was the last portion of setup where you can nickname the attached address. Now I have to wait for support to get back to me in order to figure out what’s up with this as it is beyond annoying when your money is being blocked from your access, regardless of malicious or technical issues. Also, whenever I try and make a one time withdrawal and enter how much I want to withdraw, it says I have nothing so I can’t transfer or manipulate any of my currencies between both of these problems. ✓ Seems good so far! But...Interface is amazing, super simple, nothing you don't need and everything you want. Depositing was a bit shaky because Plaid wouldn't recognise Monzo to begin with but I tried like 3 times and then it seemed to work on one of the tries? But at least it works now. ✓ Terrible experienceI was unable to automatically add my bank account, so had to use the add bank account manually option which means a wire transfer. After a $40 bank fee to send the transfer, I was surprised to find only $80 of the $100 I transferred appeared in my Gemini account. I contacted customer service who were very nice and I believed tried to help me, but the customer service rep could only guess the $20 I was shorted, was some sort of other bank fee along the way of the wire transfer. There is also a buy and sell fee which ate up another $10 of my money. I decided maybe Gemini wasn’t the service for me so asked how I can get my remaining $70. Customer service instructed me to wire transfer it back into my account. When I attempted that option it said $135 is the minimum for a wire transfer. ✓ Be careful!!I have invested luckily a small amount into my Gemini account, just over £100 in eth and a few other currencies. Upon trying to withdraw my eth to a different wallet, I have been unable to despite following all the correct processes. I withdrew all of my crypto into fiat, to allow me to withdraw all my funds from the app, and have been unable to withdraw my money into my own bank without linking my bank (card details aren’t enough). Even after being in contact with Gemini support who are fairly responsive and helpful, I am still unable to link my bank account and would need to create a new bank account as mine have BLOCKED TRANSFERS TO GEMINI which is a little disconcerting in itself. I am now seemingly left with the choice of forgetting about my money and deleting the app, or creating a whole new bank account with a bank that hasn’t blocked payments to Gemini, and contacting there support in an extremely lengthy and unnecessary process. ✓ Nonexistent customer service and frozen moneyI do not recommend this app nor the company. I opened an account nearly a month ago. They keep saying my account is pending ID verification despite uploading my driver license as requested. I’ve reached out multiple times and their customer service is not responsive outside automated messages. Their phone number is just a voicemail directing you to the endless online “customer service” loop. Also will not let it link to bank account via plaid - just keeps reaching a dead end even after authorising from bank account end. Said coin has since been listed on Coinbase, so the only way I could get the coin out was by sending to my wallet elsewhere then sending on to Coinbase. ✓ Easy to buy bitcoin, not to withdrawThe description says you can buy bitcoin in 3 minutes, which is true. I quickly linked my bank account and bought bitcoin. Their faqs say verification in 3-5 business days, and customer service didn’t respond to my inquiry. Supposedly this exchange is legit and licensed. Gemini doesn’t not offer any exchange, what they will let you do is sell your positions and then charge you for both selling then buying. ✓ Money transferMy transaction history shows that I completed a buy order and shows a deposit of funds twice for one order that I did. Now days later when the crypto I invested in is up I got an email after 9 pm which was sketchy saying it was declined for insufficient funds even though the funds are there. ✓ Beware of ScamThis company is a complete scam. Use Coinbase or Binance instead. I have used several other exchanges with absolutely zero issues. Gemini’s system tried to initiate an ACH from an account that I didn’t select, causing me to receive fees and locking up my deposit. I’ve read numerous other companions online of people having the same issue. To date, the issue still has not been resolved. Gemini doesn’t respond to emails whatsoever and their policy is to not take any phone calls. It even says so on their voicemail. Do yourself a favor and try calling their phone number to see what kind of business they are running and then decide if this is the kind of business you want to be dealing with when there’s an issue. What financial institution doesn’t take phone calls? That should be your first sign that they are not a reputable business.
