Fantastic adaptation of a great board gameI put off buying this game due to the bad reviews, but I finally took the plunge because the game itself is great. 10 games or so in, no bugs, no crashes, decent-ish AI. I’m thinking the dev team has fixed any previous issues and likely having a newer iPad with a lot of memory helps too. The graphics look sharp and the interface is intuitive after a few plays (there are a lot of actions you can take.) I haven’t played online yet, so I can’t speak to that..Version: 1.6

Excellent boardgameCool interface, smooth gameplay and animations. 4 full games on the original iPad Pro, no issues. Love the strategy in this. There are so many options and routes to take. Must read the rulebook to learn how to play, but so worth it. Addictive..Version: 1.5

ClassicNice implementation of a modern classic. There do seem to be some bugs freezing the game here and there if you try to make an illegal move. Also, would be an improvement to have text somewhere indicating what the game needs you to do next. I had a few instances where I wasn’t sure how to proceed..Version: 1.3

Good adaptation, some improvements neededThis is, overall, a good adaptation of the Board game. Generally speaking, the AI is a solid opponent. But there are some improvements would be greatly help the game: 1. The board game has been updated with expansions / extra tiles. Seeing those extra tiles added to the app (even as an IAP) would be great. 2. I’ve experienced an odd bug when playing a castle tile. It has to do with playing a tile, wanting to buy a tile for 2 silver and then taking the 2nd action. For some reason, you have to buy the other tile before placing the castle and taking the second action. (Perhaps this is following the rule book, but perhaps it’s a bug?) 3. The expansions also have a lot of different player boards. Only having the original 8 gets old. Adding new boards would be a HUGE improvement to the app. 4. Similar to #3, having more choice over which board to play. Going random is…random. Being able to choose from a couple of different boards would be a nice touch. Overall, it’s one of my most played board game apps. If you’re on the fence, you should get it. But it hasn’t been updated in quite a while and it could use some TLC to update it with the current releases of the tabletop game (expansions, player boards, etc.).Version: 1.9

Awesome gameThis game is great. I think since the last reviews there’s been a fast forward button added, and it makes things as quick as you need them to be. The game is smooth and a lot of fun!.Version: 2.2

Could have been better but still pretty goodThe actual board game is fantastic. This adaptation should have been much better than it is. A 2D view would be better. A points track that showed all current scores should be obvious. Less wasted screen space would also be nice as would the ability to stop animations. It’s nice to have competitive AI opposition though. Better than I expected. But if I didn’t already know how to play then I’m not sure if I could learn from this app. It’s still fun to play but sometimes I lose without understanding how. I was ahead then I wasn’t. It needs, like Carcassonne has, a list of end game scoring..Version: 1.6

Fantastic game, well implemented, looks greatOne of the best board games of all time, with a great mix of strategy and tactics. The only real knock on the physical version is that it looks ugly. This fixes that resoundingly. So it’s almost perfect. Only major thing I would like, as others say, is it would be nice to have an option on ranked games to choose a 2P, 3P or 4P game with random strangers once the player base is large enough to support this. But that may need a drop in the price? Also would be good if you could super-speed or turn off animations altogether when playing the AI..Version: 1.6

5 StarsImaginatively designed, challenging and accessible. A grown-up app for grown-ups!.Version: 1.5

Great boardgameReally enjoyable, it is a an excellent port from the board game. Graphics could be a bit better, I think they tried to keep it as close as possible to the original palette, which could be considered a plus by someone. I would definitely recommend if you like board games..Version: 2.2

Great app but too easyWorks great from my perspective. The hard opponent however is just far too easy to be the hard setting. I need a challenge!.Version: 1.9

Incredibly Addictive Adaptation of the Classic BoardgameCastles of Burgundy is an all-time great boardgame, and this adaptation does it justice. Great asynchronous play - I’m currently playing games with folks from all over the place and it’s really smooth. If you’re used to the boardgame layout, it may take you a game or two to get your bearings, but once you do you’ll appreciate how the developers laid things out to work surprisingly well on a phone-sized screen. Do yourself a favor though and change the animation speed to fast, and turn-off replay in the games list if you want to play your turn as quickly as possible. P.S. It had some bad bugs when it first came out, but most of them are fixed now - you can buy with confidence..Version: 1.6

Great game, but....Love the game but am having crash issues. Game crashes out when attempting to start a three player or more game. Also crashes after 3 or so phases on two player. Both against AI. Running on iPad Air with iOS 12 (recent update)..Version: 1.3

Good option if you already know how to playIf you already know the game, the learning curve to the app will be pretty easy. The scoring is a little different than the board game - yellow tiles are scored throughout the whole game, for example..Version: 1.9

Excellent computer version of the board game!I got it yesterday and my wife and I have played a few games against each other and a few against the computer. We love it! After following the built-in tutorial I found it easy to understand everything on the screen and do my actions each turn. The rules match the board game and the graphics are similar enough. There are some help buttons on the screen for quick reference. Another reviewer complained that there should be an option to skip the animations. I found that when I set the gameplay speed to fast (in the settings) it was fine. The AI is good. It plays like a real person would. So far my wife and I have tried the intermediate bot. I lost to it, and my wife almost tied it. Easily worth the price - especially compared to the cost of buying the board game..Version: 1.5

Great implementation of a classicIt's COB on my iPad, that is a very good thing. It plays like it should and the AI seems like it's programmed well. I'm so used to the analog version that the look and feel of the digital version will take some getting used to. My only real criticism is that the overall look of the game is a little muddy and feels like it could be crisper..Version: 1.3

Please offer the expansions!!We love the game, but are getting bored without the expansions. Happy to pay for them, but we're basically done playing until they come..Version: 1.9

One of my favorite board gamesGreat implementation of this game! Runs smooth on my iPad Pro 12.9" (2nd gen). Wouldn't run on an iPad 4. Also runs on iPad Air 2 fine as well. Make sure you have a high-end iPad and enjoy this sweet game! Devs, please make the "grunts/speech" a toggle item so we can disable. The advisors or whatever they are that pop up at the bottom right are OK, animation-wise, but the sound they make start grating pretty quickly..Version: 1.5

Classic with a Capital COne of the best boardgames of all time has received a competent and well-implemented adaptation that works! Any connection hiccups are forgiven due to the game's simple, yet thought-provoking design. Newbies will take a minute to learn the myriad tiles, but will catch on fully by the end of game one. If you like modern boardgames, give this a shot!!.Version: 1.6

One of my favorites! This app is clean and fun to play! Digidiced did a great job!.Version: 1.3

One of my Favorite gamesI play this game regularly (both game board and app). It is one of my favorite games. Wish the developer would update the games app though. It use to give you notifications when it was your turn, now it no longer does that. Not for that this wold be a five star game..Version: 1.6

Need live game optionIt’s a great game that is meant to be played real time. Turn based waiting up to a day for a turn is problematic. Hard to remember where you left off and it takes away from the fun of the game! Create a live option please! The game appears there is one but it does not work and grayed out.Version: 1.6

Keeps crashingLove this game but last couple of days game crashes and no way to get back and continue playing..Version: 1.6

Great implementationI’ve only played against the AI but the implantation is intuitive. They managed to incorporate lots of info into a limited amount of visual real estate. I’ve been lucky I guess in that the game hasn’t crash for me. I didn’t use the tutorials, having played the physical version of the game. Super happy to have this app..Version: 1.5

Buggy for now...crashingOnce the crashing stops then it will be a 5 star game. For how much is going on in the game the board space is well executed. Just enough info to allow experienced players to not have to be overloaded with screen claustrophobia..Version: 1.3

Scoring Tile ErrorDeveloper, please fix the yellow knowledge tile (I believe it’s #7?) that scores each time an animal tile is scored. Friends and I have noticed that it gives a mystery extra point each time it is activated, on TOP of the points it already gives. For example, if I add a 2 cow tile to a pasture with two other 2-cow tiles, it will correctly add the cows (6), correctly give 3 knowledge points for the 3 tiles scoring, and then incorrectly add a mystery point for a total of 10 when it should be 9. This app is great overall, though! Have played it with friends now dozens of times..Version: 1.6

Super fun gameIt is so much fun to play that it doesn’t really matter whether I win or lose. One tip: If the game freezes, as it still sometimes does, access the menu via the button in the right top corner and select ypur current game in the lists of active games. The game will reload and open right before your last turn during which it froze. Update March 13: All of a sudden, I can’t play anymore. “network error”, “client needs to be updated for online game” - but I only play against the AI. My network is fine. Play runs until after I placed the first card. Then the error message pops up. I checked for an update, there actually was one, but after the update still the same..Version: 1.6

Great gameThis game is so enjoyable. I have not had any problems with it. This is such a good digital version of a popular board game. There are so many options each turn. I enjoy trying a different strategy each time I play.Version: 1.6

Great game!Digidiced have produced a super digital implementation of an excellent board game. I only play off-line vs AI and the AI seems a very good challenge. Have yet to beat the easy AI in a 2 player game. Well worth the asking price..Version: 1.4

Great implementation of a great board gameOver the years, I’ve played the physical version of Castles of Burgundy a lot. It is not the prettiest title but the gameplay means it ranks highly in Boardgamegeek’s Top 20 games. The game rewards all players with a constant flow of points, whereas experienced players can look for combos which enable them to place as many tiles as possible or maximum scoring opportunities. Digidiced’s implementation ticks most of the right boxes. The board layout takes a little getting used to but other than that the game plays intuitively. The only thing I’m not sold in graphically the board disappearing into the “toilet bowl” at the end of a turn! The AI is not especially challenging on easy and medium but hard AI runs close to another human opponent. I have two issues with the AI - firstly often it appears that the dice rolls are fixed to provide the human player with dice they can’t use -fortunately the game mitigates this so it is never a serious issue. Secondly, minor slow down can occur when playing on hard AI. I haven’t had any crashes on either the phone or the iPad. Recommended..Version: 1.6

Fix the game time out feature for multiplayer online hey synchronous playI can never finish the game because it’s always timed out I only get to make one or two or three moves a day and all the games are timing out a before I get a chance to finish one please provide more time to play the game requires many moves if a player makes one move a day how many moves does it take to finish the game it’s 50 moves do the math A similar product terra mystica on the same multiplayer platform doesn’t time out otherwise the game plays like a dream Excellent.Version: 1.6

A nice port, but would shine with some tweakingI really like this game and it has a leg-up on the physical game in that it does all the bookkeeping and removes the hassle of set-up and take-down. I also like that you can play online through the Game Centre. The app has been stable for me both on- and offline. There are a few things that could use improvement though: - The AI is very slow when playing 3P and 4P games - The UI is unintuitive and a little clunky - Animation of the player tableaux between turns unnecessarily slows things down - The tutorial isn’t thorough enough for new players - Sometimes the tableau info for empty player slots is displayed, cluttering up the screen (they’re labelled Player012345 or something like that) - it would be nice to have a step-by-step undo function.Version: 1.6

Fantastic GameI have been playing since day 1 and I’m totally in love. The online play is great. I love that you can go from game to game (turn to turn) without reloading or heading back to the main title screen. My only complaints are minor. —The “hard” version of the AI is beatable almost every time. —The ranking online does not seem to update if players bail mid play. Worth the cash..Version: 1.6

Good adaptation of the boardgame.AI is pretty good..Version: 1.6

Great digital translation!Nice digital port of the board game. Took a bit to get my mindset into the new look and layout but after adjusting it plays well. Really great game I’m excited to be able to play more often..Version: 1.6

Great adaptation; slow visualsThis is a really good digital adaptation of the board game. It's easy to work out what each of the buildings and yellow tiles do while in the game. The letdown is the grinding animation, even on the fastest setting. The twisting board needs an option to be turned off, particularly when playing against multiple AI opponents. It makes a great game feel tedious..Version: 1.6

Great appIve played this game around 20 times locally vs the ai. The ai is good and the game is quite well implemented. It has frozen up only a few times but I simply back out of the game and reload it from the currently being played games menu and it has resumed flawlessly each time. Well well worth the money to play a fantastic board game that sadly sees too little table time. Thank you devs..Version: 1.6
