✓ Terrific art style, but is this really a game?I brought this a few days ago because I was really drawn to the art style, the music is very fitting and relaxing. But I wouldn’t really call this a game. The concept behind it was great but the execution was poor, the entire time it felt like a tutorial. Improvements such as being able to reply to emails, get different outfits, different tools, upgrade your works shop. Even go out for drinks with your friends like the email said. If this game had a few more features it would probably the best game app I’ve ever downloaded, sadly it flopped..Version: 1.0
✓ Ok......a subject, dealt with in a very dignified way. First game from new developers. I want to give it 5 stars but it was just way, way, way, too short. You can finish it in half an hour. Of course, this game could be expanded with free updates in the future I suppose as it seemed to kind of finish where it was just starting to get interesting but I do feel a bit disappointed with the price cos for the amount of content you get, you don’t get much and that is kind of a sticking point cos what you get is good just not enough of it. ✓ It’s lovely but it’s too short.Yes it might be an indie game, but I got through this in about 30 minutes, and for the price point it really isn’t on. It’s beautiful, and the story is lovely - the music too, amazing, loved it. I can’t think of anything I disliked about this game in terms of everything other than the time it takes to play through it. Baring in mind I read all the emails and all of the talking, which was lovely but it’s just too short. I thought because it was $2.99 that it would be lengthy and I would have more flexibility when it came to how the events planned out. There’s no progression, the levels don’t get harder, you don’t have to work hard to buy better tools for example. Everything is handed to you, you don’t need skill to progress. ✓ Life Span Is Oh-So ShortThis game is interesting, informative, and short. When I say short, I mean ‘you can finish the whole game in half hour’ short. It deals death in a somber, dignified way and can teach you a lot if you are not converse with the various duties of a mortician. Easy to use controls with explanations of each procedure. I felt the game ended very abruptly with no clear explanation of how she reaches that part so for me this feels like a prologue to another episode. If that’s the case I don’t think I would buy another one as with a £2.99 price tag it’s pretty steep for what it is..Version: 1.0

✓ More of an experience rather than a gameI’ve known about The Mortician’s Tale back when it was first released on PC, but I was hesitant on buying it because the price was rather high. Preordered it on the appstore because it was only $2 (now $3), so for the price I’d say it’s worth a play only if you’re really interested in the subject. It costs less than a coffee, anyway. The game is short, slow, and fairly uneventful, though the social commentary on the state of funeral homes was intriguing. The gameplay was repetitive and I found myself unenthusiastic about doing the embalming process, particularly because the touch sensitivity was annoying and it was difficult to see what I was doing due to how my finger covered up the hotspots. The emails were probably the highlight of the game, really. The comments during the funerals seemed irrelevant and added almost nothing to the modicum of narrative there was in the game. There’s no opportunity to fail, there’s no options that give different outcomes, the “game”tells you what to do through the whole thing. ✓ Not a game.I was so excited for this and immediately downloaded it before I read the reviews. Man, do I wish I would have before I wasted $3 for 30 minutes. This app is not a game. it is visually stunning & i absolutely loved the music. But it was just endless tapping and going through a story rather than having the freedom of doing anything yourself. I loved the idea of this game but I felt like I was in a VERY long tutorial and never got to have any input of the actual player. This game had so much potential too since i’m a huge fan of Grave Yard Keeper. I recommend that game over this one a thousand times. This just seems like such a waste and i’m very disappointed. Another thing I disliked was that there was so many time gaps like you cremate one body and then you’re next body is two months later ? It just seemed so weird that the “game” was trying to pass time so quickly rather than letting the player actual go through different months and days. The ending was supposed to be a cute “aww good for her!” moment but it’s completely lost since there is NO connection to the main character or the other characters in the game since there is no freedom to actually do anything other than what the game wants you to do. In places it is repetitive and does feel more like an interactive narrative - each corpse seems to turn up only a month, and even then, your actions during that day are limited to 1) reading your emails 2) preparing the corpse 3) overhearing conversations at the funeral and voting your head at the casket/urn. ✓ Beautiful and well thought out however...I paid £2.99 for a game and ended up with nothing more than a very short story where I couldn’t make any decisions and had to follow he completely repetitive description on how to complete a task to progress. Tasks where I couldn’t actually make a mistake. Also, there seems to be a very strong message trying to sell green burials to us and to try and make it look like all other burial services are nothing more than evil money grabbing corporations. I liked the app and what great potential it could offer a a moralistic choice driven game but as it is and for the price it just doesn’t offer enough. I truly hope to see an expansion to this “game” with a free update to people who have already paid for a game and yet to receive one. I unfortunately found it pretty repetitive and short - I finished the game in less than half an hour. Nice animations and the graphics flow seamlessly, although the embalming process speeds up halfway. Disappointed with some of the emails, because they aren’t open to all cultural expressions. Although the mention of white funeral dress and other religious practices was good, why discourage western practices? (eg, why include a general rule against saying the deceased is in a better place?) that won’t offend every person and this seems contrary to the claim to support all expressions of grief. ✓ Very cool butAs a funeral director & Embalmer I was very excited about this game. However, somewhat disappointed. I finished the game in 25 mins , FOR THREE DOLLARS, and some of the game was inaccurate. I understand the game can’t be but so accurate because some of the general public can not handle / understand/ shouldn’t see what truly happens at funeral homes. However, this is a great start. ✓ Beautiful Story, NOT A GAMEI thought this app was lovely, and like many other reviewers, downloaded and paid for it immediately. 30 minutes later, when the credits rolled, I realized I was fooled into taking an interactive storyboard for an actual game. There is based ally no autonomous mechanics included (you may move around freely, but only interact with set objects at set times) and there is no way to continue past the frustratingly short “Story Mode.” Really wishing I had saved my money, maybe bought a coffee instead... at least that would stick with me longer....Version: 1.0

✓ DisappointingI really wanted to love this. From the cute art styles, the beautiful music, and the story game aspect I expected it to be like playing What Remains of Edith Finch. The skipping chunks of time was very frustrating, because you get tiny snippets of her life and relationships and suddenly it’s a month and a half later. You lose the momentum of the story in that. You never get to see her replies, or interact with any of the people that are named characters at all. Moving on to the actions... I’ve never played a game that was entirely a tutorial. Once you show an action that should be it. I shouldn’t have to wait for the instructions, then be allowed to do something I’ve done five times. Maybe that can be made optional in the settings? Just a thought. The thing that was the hardest for me was that obviously her life was going on beyond the ten or so days that we play as her. I like that her story progressed to such a positive place, but again there’s that missing momentum with the time skips, and there’s so much missed opportunity by not showing the greener techniques that she was headed towards with her own business. It’s such a shame as the idea is such a great idea that it’s a bit disappointing that you don’t do more in the story or be able to take the game further or have different settings or even multiple choice replies to emails. For instance in one email you’re told off for not selling a package which seems ridiculous as you don’t even have anything to do with the families coming to the parlour you just get a message saying what to do and then tap or drag on screen accordingly. I hope they do an update with more involvement and don’t charge for the people who already purchased.Version: 1.0
✓ Great potential, but falls short of expectations.I had high hopes for this game. I think there are many opportunities that could be pursued but unfortunately this game just doesn’t hit the mark that it should’ve. There was a wonderful opportunity for a split-ending during the controversial funeral, and there could have easily been a lot of decision based dialogue during each individual funeral pertaining to the e-mail subscription of that day. I would have loved to see more interaction as far as possibly doing the makeup and such, or choosing an outfit to wear based on more information given to us by the families. You could at least let us have the ability to mess up and implement a Yelp-esque rating system in which we can be fired based on bad reviews so there’s at least some form of freedom. There’s a lot of potential and I could go on and on. I’d love to expand on some ideas of the developers would be interested in contacting me..Version: 1.1

✓ TutorialI agree with others I buried or cremated around five people each one felt like a tutorial and then bang end titles appear. You can learn what you read in this app on google to be honest saving you $5. Noticed I said app and not game. I was hopeful for this game but it failed especially for the price. ✓ Morbid and depressingI feel like a mortician wanted the World to know what a depressing job they had, so they created this game in order for people to be able to empathize in a way. The music is so gloomy. I guess I don’t care to think about this part of death. To me, my soul will be in Heaven with Jesus. I don’t care what happens to my body...whatever my loved ones need to do to get closure is up to them. I guess the most positive aspect of this game is that it is informative. I never really considered what a typical day for a mortician might be like. To the creators of this game, just because the topic of this game wasn’t my cup of tea, doesn’t mean that y’all didn’t create an interesting game. Given another topic, I could see myself playing another game by the creators. Best of luck..Version: 1.0
