Dipsea – Spicy Audiobooks for Negative User Reviews

£44 subscriptionI didn’t even subscribe to this charge now I’m at a loss of how to get my money back.Version: 2.3.1

Was perfect before a change…???I started using Dipsea a while ago. I was looking for a sleep and meditation app to help me wind down and fall asleep. All the others are so expensive, so I tried a free trial. I never expected it to be as good as it was. The stories are steamy and quick. They provide fantasy for me. They help me sleep. The actual sleep sounds are great also. Rainstorms are my favorite. But now something is wrong. Before when I added stories and sleep sounds to my queue, they would play automatically. Now they just play the current one and I have to hit play to move to the next story or soundscape. That defeats the purpose of why I’m using the app. I tried deleting and reinstalling. I’m not sure if it’s Apple or Dipsea but I’m going to have to discontinue use and cancel my subscription. That feature is why it worked for me. Frustrating..Version: 4.2.1

RequestsI love Dipsea. I’ve learned a lot. Although a lot of the stories feel like urban/city/consumerist culture. I would love to hear more sexy stories based in decolonized/back to the land/ natural world settings. I also want to hear more stories with fem doms. It feels like many stories feed into the 50 shades of gray narrative and it feels tiring. I would also love to hear more guided self pleasure techniques for both men and women - I love the “how-to’s”..Version: 4.3.8

Wish it was worth it.I get it’s a small team working on this whole app and while I appreciate the idea and the content that I’ve been able to access it’s really not worth it. The price is not worth what you get unless new stories are coming out every few days I couldn’t imagine paying anything for this app let alone what you’re asking. It’s been a while since a new story was released and listening to the same 3 sorties just isn’t cutting it not to mention the app is still really slow loading up and getting to the page where you’re actually able to play the audio. Hopefully something change in the near future maybe ads as a way to unlock videos and hopefully more content being released on a regular basis. Really rooting for this app and the idea of it.Version: 1.4.0

A new discoveriesThis is a great app, it has given me a whole new experience of alone moments. As a visual person with a vivid imagination it works wonders. The only thing is I wish the stories wouldn’t jump so quick from story building to the moments. And also I wish there were longer options. Other than that, it is certainly awakening something for me that makes me feel empowered and sexy.Version: 3.1.0

Fool me twice, Shame on meI hate writing negative reviews, but as someone who loves audio stimulation, this never hit the mark. I used this app months ago and was only able to get off on 1 of the audios—this was the only audio where the guy didn’t finish in 30 seconds. I deleted the subscription, but desperately came back to it to see if they had anything I could work with. Waste of my money again. The scripts are very unnatural. And 30 seconds—this is not nearly enough time for a woman, unless on a steamy 5 min break at work. Drives me crazy how uncreative the writers are with female pleasure. I’m never turned on by these audios. It always sounds like the actors are in big, empty, white rooms. Very uncomfortable, awkward, and not stimulating in the least for me. I get off way more without this app..Version: 3.3.1

Must be bad if I can’t even use it!I couldn’t even listen to anything. It wouldn’t play so I had to delete the app 15 minutes after installing it! I don’t know if you had to pay to listen to any story, if so it didn’t say so as much..Version: 2.6.6

Way too expensiveGreat idea but it’s way too expensive for what it is..Version: 1.8.7

New stories? There doesn’t seem to be a lot of new content particularly when compared to competitors..Version: 4.7.0

BoringAwful American accents.Version: 3.3.1

App never worksThe stories are great and very high quality production but I’ve had the app about 6 months and it’s very glitchy. The stories don’t play about 75% of the time. Never had this problem with other apps and often end up listening through the Spotify app instead.Version: 4.7.0

Not as inclusive as is being marketedSo I’m non-binary, and I downloaded the app because I was intrigued by the mention of genderqueer storylines. However, I was disappointed that the first-person audios (or at least the ones I’ve found) all operate under the assumption that the listener is a woman, which I understand since that is the demographic that is being targeted. But I found myself getting quickly taken out of the experience because I was being referred to with language that made me feel dysphoric. I just wish there were at least a couple of audios that were made specifically with non-binary folks in mind (i.e., addressing the listener with gender neutral language, refraining from mentioning certain body parts, etc.). Also, it kind of rubbed me the wrong way that the only non-binary voices on the app were AFAB and I didn’t see a single story that depicted a non-binary person and a man together. It’s feeding into a common misconception that all non-binary people are AFAB and only attracted to women. It seems like you’re marketing your enby voice actors as just a different flavor of lesbian, which feels disrespectful. I get it if you want an app that’s only for women, but please make that more clear in how you market..Version: 4.6.4

Filter for non-drinkers pleaseHey guys, love the concept but I’d love an update/more content with regards to lifestyle choices and other things like disability. As much as having a drink at the local is great, it doesn’t scream inclusivity..Version: 4.4.7

More voices of colorI’m new to the app & have only heard the free stories. I liked what I heard & I’d love to subscribe, EXCEPT I don’t yet hear enough voices of color - especially Black voices. There’s a great search function where you can select a range of preferences, but as a Black person, I’m doubtful the narrators of most of the stories tagged as “Black Voices” are actually black voices. The cadence doesn’t match, the culture doesn’t match, the language isn’t ours...it’s just OFF. I can tell the story with Freddie is the most authentic (of the free versions). The story called Deep Tissue is tagged as Black Voices, but that’s a blatant Nope. I’m hoping the paid version is more diverse & authentic. I’d like to hear true voices & perspectives of all cultures. Thanks!.Version: 2.9.6

CancellationFurious I cannot unsubscribe from this app! No reply on the help chat. It’s robbery!.Version: 3.8.1

Only Three Stories Available?I got many ads for the app and eventually found myself wanting it. When I downloaded it the first day or so was absolutely spectacular. This app could be been amazing. But for those less.. Er, expendable with their app payments, it doesn't do well. There's no option to watch ads to unlock stories and that's troubling. If you could add this feature in, you could not only make a lot in as revenue but have even higher reviews (as this app is amazing for the accessible stories and the quality and story plots are undeniably the best I've ever heard in my lifetime which is why I dislike writing such a bad review). I love this app, and I'd be more than happy to give you a full five-star rating if you add the option to view ads rather than pay..Version: 1.3.3

Its ok but mainly for a white audienceThis app is primarily for a white audience. Don't get me wrong, there are diverse characters and I really liked the idea and I’m glad the app exists but this did bug me… In the tag lines they will always tell you if there’s a black voice or an asian voice but the white voices are known by country of origin like Irish voices or British voices never ‘white voices’ which sounds silly right? Also in woman/man stories when you go to look up more stories with the same actor, its only the male voice actors work that comes up…. Lastly they charged me for a year subscription without any warning. I took the L on that but damn I wish that hadn’t had happened because it made me feel less excited about using the app again.Version: 4.7.0

Wont workTried everything, nothing at all will load..Version: 4.3.4

Polite and dullIt’s a great premise, but the writing leaves a lot to be desired. All a bit polite and dull. With better, more varied stories it could be good. There is no shortage of people on writing websites who write this kind of stuff..Version: 1.9.1

Not impressed rather bored sorryDoes not turn on , voices are not to my liking and quite frankly feels fake.Version: 4.3.9

Slightly HomophobicGreat app! Very catered to a heterosexual listener. Very disappointed that there wasn’t more for the homosexual man on this app. I really want to subscribe, but unsure if it is worth my money considering there is not enough content for me and my BOYFRIEND to enjoy together. I hope this gets rectified soon. Would be down to listen more if i didn't have to pay. Refuse pay until more gay male content is provided..Version: 2.9.6

Billed me without consentI was charged $70 without subscribing to the non free version.Version: 3.9.0

ReviewI wish that you didn’t have to pay for the good stories, I only have access to 3 or 4 stories..Version: 4.5.7

B+I like the app and she even recommended it to a few friends. I appreciated that they gave me a discount on my year subscription. However, there is a real lack of updates for queer content. I have been checking every week and waiting months for an update on wlw stories or new wlw stories. This is the main reason why I’m not planning to renew next year. It’s kind of unacceptable for there to be NO wlw story updates for MONTHS. I think it’s a great app for hetero people though..Version: 4.6.8

Tricks into buyingThey charge a tar immediately. I don’t want this app!!! At all!! Trick you by asking for account details before telling you cost. Awful app, be careful. Can’t find how to refund..Version: 1.9.5

Barely anything is accessible without paying for an expensive subscriptionI downloaded this app with high hopes, and quality wise i can't complain, the stories were (from the very small library whichvwas available for free) very well written and the audio is high quality. now I'd like to get into the huge downside. this app requires you to pay a hefty price to access its full library of stories, i would MUCH prefer that they put ads at the beginning and end of stories, or at least, if they'd like to keep the app ad free (or have only a small amount of ads) they could have a system where you have the option of watching ads to unlock a story for a certain amount of time. i feel like these systems would make this app more successful, as well as more user friendly..Version: 1.3.3

FreeNeeds more free stories.Version: 4.4.1

Good but can’t unsubscribeThis is a great app and I really enjoyed it. However I’m not using it all the time and I wanted to unsubscribe, unfortunately you don’t get that option and that really disappointed me considering I shouldn’t be paying that much unwillingly when I don’t use the app that much..Version: 2.7.0

Love the conceptHowever I wish there was a little more free content. I would consider subscribing if I knew it would be worth it. Also if the monthly subscription came with a seven day feee trial. The app quality seems great though.Version: 1.6.2

Great app but needs improvementsHi very much enjoy the app. However, it keeps crashing so an update is definitely needed. Also, there are not a lot of queer stories compared to straight ones, which is very sad! I would love to see more varieties for queer people especially lesbians..Version: 3.5.5

Just cringe, don’t waste moneyVery expensive for what it is and honestly there’s nothing sexy about it at all. Go online and get better content for free!.Version: 2.8.6

What a scam!Total scam I cancelled within trial period because stories were cringe-worthy and they still charged me for full year! Avoid!.Version: 4.5.5

Onto something...I really like the idea of this app. I feel like most of the sex education I have received from the North American culture, within which I’m immersed, is very male centred. The narratives are often directed by stereotypical male ideas of what sex should entail, and frequently, I feel unfulfilled by these. Enter Dipsea. I I feel like I struggle with asking for what I want in bed, so I really like being exposed to alternative narratives from a female’s perspective, written and created by women. Mainstream porn is not really my thing. I can’t really get off on it. Too unrealistic, too rushed, too penetration focused. I really like the lead-up, and hearing women speak their truth of what they want from a sexual encounter, in an assertive way. It’s like a new form of sex education for me where I get to hear what it’s like for a woman to ask for and get sexual pleasure and fulfillment, and then I get to take those learning with me in my own adventures. I feel a sense of empowerment from listening to these stories, and encouragement to be more assertive and explicative of what I want, within my own sexual encounters and relationships. I really like the idea of guided sexual meditations/exploratory sessions for self, as well as for a couple. However, there was no free option available to try. The voice actors are okay. A lot of the time I can’t fully get into the storyline because the acting isn’t convincing enough for me. Other times I feel like the narration can be a little rushed (eg: “Salty”). I want there to be more pause between the sentences so my body can catch-up and have a chance to react to the new thing that just happened in the storyline (eg: moving from one body part to the next). Overall I’m not sure if I will pay for a subscription. I don’t feel like there were enough episodes for free in order for me to get a good enough handle on whether or not these would work for me. I feel like offering a week, or a month (month would create more reliance on the app and likely more subscribers) of all content would help me get a better understanding o whether or not a Dipsea subscription would be worthwhile for me. I think I’d be more comfortable subscribing and I would be more likely to subscribe if I felt secure in knowing that yes, these audio sessions have worked for me, and I have to opportunity to be exposed to more variety and thus yearn for more similar content. Thanks very much Dipsea for putting in the effort to create this app. I’m looking forward to seeing how you grow over the next while and I’ll be keeping tabs on the new episodes, as I suss-out whether or not it will be worth it for me to subscribe. Feel free to reach out if you’re interested in further feedback. I’m really excited about this concept!.Version: 1.6.3

It didn’t work for meI regret to say it didn’t work for me. I wish it did though 😌 never mind I still love the idea behind it and hope it works for others.Version: 1.2.0

Very one noteWhile I do really enjoy the app there’s not exactly a lot of diversity in the kind of thing you’re offered. If you like men being the dominant ones this will be great for you, but as someone who enjoys bdsm from the dominant side of things, there’s pretty much nothing for me by way of male submission stories and that was a major let down.Version: 3.9.6

MisgenderedI am non-binary. I was really enjoying this app and its promise of inclusivity. It has a good use of tags and uses really affirming language. I can see how this would be a wonderful app for women. However, when I decided to listen to a her/you track, I was misgendered, which was an unwelcome surprise. It would be really helpful if, in this section, it said what gender or pronouns the ‘you’ was designed for because it is not universal. Overall, great app, but if you don’t use she/her pronouns I would recommend avoiding the her/you section for now..Version: 4.5.5

Subscription is very misleading! When you download the app it says you are billed monthly and can cancel any time. I was billed for a whole year and can’t seem to contact a real person to discuss refunding my money. I feel this is very misleading. The app itself is fine..Version: 1.6.1

Disappointing and formulaicI bought this after it was recommended in a New Yorker article but it's a disappointment. Tediously formulaic and unimaginative. Expensive when you consider how little it actually offers..Version: 3.6.1

Hot stories, missing elementExcellent quality audio erotica. The acting is believable, the stories are really, really sexy. Love all the kinks, scenarios, people, and cultures represented. But there are no non-binary + him options in the gender category. Bisexual non-binary is a mouthful, but we do exist (as do non-binary people who only sleep with men) and I’m bummed that’s not reflected in the otherwise fantastic library..Version: 4.5.3

Lack Luster AudiosIf you’re like me, and only want the 1st person POV where the actor is speaking directly to the listener then go somewhere else. There’s no sound effects in anything so it’s just whoever you’re listening to talking into and breathing into your ear. Even in the solo-artist audios there’s no noises of activity. Just someone breathing and making noises into a mic. Not the good stuff either there’s no whimper audios or anything. There’s some out-there tags like monster themed things for Halloween and BDSM but they all feel very vanilla. There’s nothing wrong with vanilla it’s just not my style. The writing and story-telling is amazing but that’s it. The voice actors are all talented but none of them get into it. It feels like there’s no passion, just people reading a script. I’ll be sticking to Reddit..Version: 4.6.8

Do not sign up for the “free” trialI signed up and realised it wasn’t for me very quickly i tried multiple times to cancel within the 14 days and there was always an error! I eventually got a notification i did not hold an account and assumed it was sorted out but have today been charged for a years subscription! Well being??? Absolutely not! I am now down £50 I can’t afford for something I won’t use!!!.Version: 4.4.2

Stay awayI tried this app on a whim from girlfriends and initially enjoyed the service. it was a moment of let's just try this out. I signed up for the service but 1 month in I can honestly say the stories became monotonous and predictable. I ordered the service via my apple plan. But a year later I was billed again via the app and not by Apple. I contacted apple customer support who informed me that Dipsea must have my card on file. Canceled the service one month into using it so why was it renewed. I emailed Dipsea and tried to contact customer service, but still haven't heard from anyone. Customer service is not accommodating and I've still haven't heard from someone and am not sure if I will be billed again next year. All in all stay away from this app..Version: 4.6.3
