Ghost charges, 1/3 of the fleet is in riding conditionPhantom charges months later hoping you wont notice!! The bikes that work, work good. The ones that dont will have random incurring charges saying you didn't secure the bike ( physically cant due to lock issues ) . Bike also sometimes dont work but will still have incurred a charge due to you activating the bike. Customer service didnt care and none of it was refundable even though a ride would last 10 seconds due to figuring out the bike is broken. They expect you to call and stay on hold to inform them on the bike instead of leaving an email or note which directly attaches to the submission / end session of the specific bike. Would not reccomend.Version: 3.3.5

FraudSalvatore Palella scammed investors that have invested in hbz tokens with that you can use for scooter driving.Version: 2.4.0

Terrible UX for first time users96 degree day, wanted to take a scooter back to the hotel. Scanned the barcode on the scooter, it brought up an error page. Scooter didn’t indicate which app to download, but a search in the App Store suggested the app “Skip by Helbiz” was appropriate, given the branding matched 100%. Started signing up for an account and got an error that the app was no longer functional (then why have it published still?) and I’d need to download “Helbiz” instead. Downloaded Helbiz and then encountered the error that my “phone number was already in use”, but it provided absolutely no way to just “sign in” with an existing account using your phone number. When I attempted to sign in with my email, same situation. Simply couldn’t get to the point of entering a password. At this point, I was standing outside in the 96 degree heat for an extra 10 mins—the amount of time it should have taken me to scooter home!.Version: 3.4.0

FraudulentI was in DC and two of my friends told me to hop on a scooter. We all downloaded the hellbiz app to unlock them. We started the rental - but the scooters did not unlock for us to use. We cancelled and were charged about $5 each for the time it was active. I contacted customer support via chat since that’s all they allow - and then they said they’ll give us codes for a $5 voucher. We tried to use the codes on other scooters but the codes weren’t even working. So I contacted them because we just wanted to refunds. All of a sudden they say that they can’t issue it unless we fill out a form and email them about it. That’s how they rob you legally..Version: 4.0.0

I would give it 0 if I couldWorst scooter in Palermo. Gave it a try multiple rides and only for half of one ride it worked like normal. Other times it started the ride and the scooter did not allow to get on. I am going to try and get refund but so far it has been hard to find how to do that. DO NOT DOWNLOAD! IT'S BASICALLY A SCAM.Version: 3.3.10

Bad app, bad bike, bad service! The card in their application does not work correctly, the blocking algorithm also does not work correctly, because of this I left for a zone where it is impossible to drive, I could not use the service fully, and after that they took even more money from me and did not want to return it, the support service did not want to understand the situation, and refused to help me..Version: 3.4.8

Helbiz has terrible support. This is my first and last time using the app. The bike I used stopped working mid-ride and I almost flew off the bike. To make things worse, I was forced to walk another quarter mile because it would not let me end the ride until I was a designated location. I contacted support and was then told I would have to send a separate email outside of the app in order to receive a refund even though I had filed a report. Riders in Atlanta, stay away from Helbiz. Thank me later..Version: 2.5.0

Was charged for 2 hours after I ended my rideI attempted to end my ride. After waiting the 30 seconds multiple times, my ride still would not end. I am now facing a $44 charge and customer support is completely unwilling to help or even hear me out. I had no action of recourse, and because their app doesn’t work properly I am the one who is supposed to foot the bill?!.Version: 3.0.0

Worst scooter experience everWhen I tell you try every other scooter app other than this one believe me. First these scooters have absolutely no speed. Secondly they have VERY specific parking spots to park the scooters. I had to park the scooter four blocks from my home and walk back. Completely defeats the purpose of grabbing a scooter. Made it a more of a hassle. Try any other scooter that don’t have these stupid restrictions..Version: 3.2.1

Terrible ExperienceIt would not let me park anywhere, even when I was in the “zone.” I tried parking it in the designated area (poorly marked and difficult to find) in hopes that it would end my ride. That didn’t work either; instead, I had to get a hold of a person at customer service (extremely difficult task in itself) to manually end my ride! And it charged me an extra 20-30 minutes of ride time! I am shocked by how frustrating this experience had become..Version: 4.0.5

Don’t make the mistake I did, DON’T USERented bike last week. Finished trip and locked bike with pin that goes into front tire I thought everything was great until I was charge over $55 for a 5-6 min ride. Emailed CS and they just replied you didn’t end the ride the correct way your loss. They can clearing see that it was only used for 5 minutes but are charging me for over 120 minutes. Terrible way to get return business. Never using again and help no one else will either. My advise don’t download the app but if you already did just walk until you find a bike or scooter from a different company..Version: 3.4.4

Charged me $50 for “improper parking”Helbiz takes this scooter business waaaay too seriously. These scooters are supposed to be quick and convenient and they’ve made it completely opposite. I parked my scooter exactly where I found it and they said it was a “no parking zone”. I wrapped the annoying cable around the pole I found it on and I was in a rush (hence why I needed to use the scooter) so I didn’t have time to walk around DC looking for a place to leave the scooter. They charged me $50 for this. This business is a joke. Use Bird instead..Version: 3.3.4

Slooooooow!!!Used it in Tampa once. What could’ve been 7 minutes ride turned to 15 minutes because most of the way the scooter would slow to crawling speed at which it’s hard even to keep it balanced. So, I walked it until it would speed up again. As a result the ride was $15 - a few dollars more than if I would taken a taxi. Simply not worth it. I am surprised they are still in business..Version: 4.1.2

Used to be great, now they’re terribleI’ve used this scooter service for over two years in DC. It used to be great under Skip until Helbiz acquired them. Now it’s absolutely terrible. I’ve been on their monthly subscription plan for a while and now only 20% of the scooters I unlock actually work. Most are completely broken but they still list them as available on their app. On top of that, there have been several instances where I lock a scooter (one that, a majority of the time, doesn’t even work) and I get confirmation from the app and via email that the closing of the ride was successful. But then 1.5 hours later I’m charged a small fortune because the app suddenly claims I never locked it. Customer support is a joke so of course none of these issues are never resolved. It’s a real bummer because this used to be the best scooter service in DC but now I’m dropping it. Not a surprise when you do some research and realize Helbiz is a sketchy firm that’s been sued by the DoJ for running a crypto pump and dump scam, among other things..Version: 3.0.8

More expensive and less reliable than its many competitorsMore expensive than Spin, Lyft, or others, and frequently suffers an error when you initially unlock causing you to be charged without the scooter unlocking. Outrageously, it does not automatically refund rides less than 30 seconds long, even though those obviously indicate failures of their technology..Version: 3.3.4

No permitted parking zonesDoesnt show you where parking locations are avalible. Had to drive all the way back to starting location after 15 minutes of trying to find a parking spot..Version: 3.5.2

Worst scooter company everIt took ten minutes to end my scooter session once I had decided that this was the worst scooter company ever. It told me I was in an area designated as a non-scootering area even though I was clearly outside of that area. I recommend other brands of scooters if you are someone who enjoys making it to the activities on time. However if you are someone who enjoys being late to meetings then this is the scooter brand for you.Version: 3.3.7

Charged me and didn’t work….Version: 4.1.1

Decent app, awful customer careI rode 9 mins and was charged €19.45 because the scooter did not turn off correctly. I contacted customer services and they refuse to help me in any way. Mara from the custoner service team was blunt and unhelpful! Do not use this company! Use a different company where possible..Version: 3.5.5

Faster to walkI rented a bike for a 3 mile journey from Arlington Virginia to Georgetown in DC. Upon arriving in DC I was unable to park anywhere as the app could not verify my location, so I unlocked the bike and rode it back to Virginia only to have the same thing happen. For what should have been a simple 3 mile bike ride, I ended up riding 5 miles looking for designated parking zones that the app could verify, to never finding one and leaving the bike and walking another mile to my destination. Save yourself the hassle and walk!.Version: 3.4.2

DO NOT USE THIS SEVICEI purchased 80 mins package, used 13 mins and then went to start a new ride- I tried 3 bikes, none of which worked, each one cost $1 to unlock. I was left stranded in an unsafe area despite being surrounded by Helbiz bikes- none of which worked. I emailed to complain and ask for a refund for the remaining 67 mins that I was UNABLE to use due to their rubbish service and was told this was not possible. Waste of time, waste of money, left me in a vulnerable position, no refund! DO NOT USE.Version: 4.0.7

Worst scooter app out there DO NOT USEWill let you pick up a scooter in a zone where it doesn’t work and charge you until you move it somewhere where it does work. It will then proceed to not let you park and continue to charge you while holding you and your credit card hostage for 30min until you figure it out how to move it into a parking zone the size of a dinner plate while customer support is non responsive..Version: 2.7.3

Double charged- bad customer serviceUpdate- I received a message from Helbiz to reach out to their customer support email for “immediate assistance.” I did that over 3 weeks ago with no response. The bike was fine, but the system is a mess. I purchased the $9.99 unlimited day pass, but was almost charged over $30 in addition to that “unlimited” pass. I reached out to customer service with no response except a survey for my satisfaction. I’ll have to dispute the charge with my credit card company..Version: 3.4.4

ScamMade me deposit 10$ and charged me from that the first ride, after that the only payment option was directly from my card and not what was left of the deposit, so I have 7$ in the account that I can’t take out or use. It’s not a lot of money just scummy way to do business..Version: 4.1.2

Rides did not work and overcharged meNone of the bikes worked properly and several did not start at all..Version: 4.1.1

Absolute trash - strongly discouragedDo not use these products. No indication of a scooter’s condition or battery power before “unlocking”, which costs $1. Most likely, your scooter’s accelerator will not work and the rear wheel will not be released after paying to “unlock” the vehicle. You will also be charged for the time to determine if you can get the scooter to work once unlocked. Therefore, you will spend up to $10 just to find a functional scooter amongst a fleet. Absurd. Criminal? If you are lucky enough to find a functional scooter and if you decide to remain still for a few minutes during your ride, then your scooter will most likely fail as described above. Do not waste your time..Version: 4.1.1

Used to be greatI use e scooters almost everyday as my go to mode of transport around the town and have used Helbiz a few months back then it disappeared and I saw it all around the place today again in Arlington VA. I am so disappointed!! This used to be my go to scooter. The county I live in has a speed limit of 15mph allowed for e scooters. The other e scooters allowed in my area are Link, Bird and lime. I stopped using lime almost a year ago cause to limited their speed to 10mph!! They were the only ones and not like they made rent cheaper since it’s time based. Bird had reduced acceleration so that was bad as well. Helbiz was fast and quick acceleration! Today this scooter was limited 9 mph!! Why?? I almost bought the monthly subscription for unlimited rides and now I feel glad I didn’t. I had to write this review cause I was excited to see it again and then quickly very disappointed!! Update after response from developer: Just to let you know incase there is a confusion, I don’t live in DC. I live in Arlington, Virginia where the county has allowed 15mph for e scooters. Scooter companies like Bird and Link operate in the area as well and they have their speed locked at 15 mph as per county rules.Version: 2.7.1

Dangerous scooters shut off randomlyMy scooter shut of randomly and I had to restart the ride to get it going again. To add insult to (almost) injury, Helbiz gave me a $10 fine for not locking the scooter when I was trying to restart the ride Helbiz, I can’t control where your scooters malfunction. There may not be a place to lock nearby. Instead of fixing the scooters or putting a ‘restart’ ride button in the app, they give out fines. If anyone is ever injured by a scooter randomly shutting off these reviews are evidence that Helbiz has been well informed of problems and chose to ignore them. 4/8/22: Update in response to the copy paste comment from the negligent developers. If you contact the support email they will send you copy paste rude responses. They knowingly overcharge users, and they know the scooters are dangerous and don’t do anything to fix them..Version: 3.3.1

Absolutely disappointed and suspect a scamI moved to Arlington, VA a few months ago and was very happy to see a variety of scooters that are offered for rent. I tried a couple of times to rent a Helbiz scooter and bike, every time the ride would not start properly or as it happened today, the ride would not end. I chatted live with someone and all the questions were rude as if I am trying to do something suspicious. I tell you save your money and don’t ruin your day trying to rent Helbiz..Version: 3.4.8

Not worth the riskI’ve used Hellbiz and competitors (Spin, Lime, Lyft) in DC the last 6 months. Hellbiz has decent scooters and good pass options. The “start charging but will not unlock” problem is very real, and effects 80% of (attempted) rides in my experience — see other reviews. This requires you to pay for rides you don’t take, as customer service is basically non-existent. I don’t experience the same problem with competitors, so I avoid Hellbiz unless there are no other options and I’m willing to take the “will it actually unlock?” risk..Version: 3.4.0

RubbishVery slow, won’t send verification text, gave up on it. Waste of time.Version: 3.3.4

Do NOT use this company!!I wasted more time starting and ending rides due to issues with the scooters. These minutes were taken away from my times use. Each time I used it I had to contact the help chat and that also used up minutes. Then I was charged additional fees to continue use after Helbiz scooter issues. I outlasted a weekly pass to save time and get around DC. I spend equal amounts of time with the help chat as I did riding the scooter. And for a quick trip time is valuable and Helbiz wasted mine. They also refuse to offer a refund. Use another company! There are many others out there!.Version: 3.3.0

Buggy App + Subpar SupportTheir app is buggy and spits out errors. This caused my last ride to record 123 minutes of use and their support told me they couldn’t find evidence of an uploaded photo to confirm my drop-off. What was supposed to be a 10 minute ride for about $6 ended up charged at $55+. Customer Support refused to grant me a refund and condescendingly sent me instructions on how to properly drop off their vehicles instead. Thanks guys, a month and change after using your vehicles and you think I don’t know how this works? 🙄 Anyway, they lost a loyal customer, as I rode these things around my town darn near daily since I don’t have an actual car right now. Companies that value customers know that these types of behaviors could bring more loss than gain in the long run and they work to make sure their customers feel taken care of. Especially if there’s record of loyalty. Reader: You can keep using their vehicles, but if something happens one day where you’d like a refund, please know that they don’t care about you as a customer and you’ll likely receive a condescending, non-helpful response from their “support team” instead..Version: 3.4.5

Watch your moneyGot this in DC and got the unlimited pass. What it doesn’t tell you before you buy it is that it’ll charge you if you go over 30 minutes. How convenient that whenever I went to pause the ride, the app wouldn’t let me pause the ride. They also charge you for going over 30 minutes, and they do not tell you that ahead of time. There are no parking areas for it in DC and essentially useless because there are so many no-ride sections. Stick with literally any other brand.Version: 2.8.2

Terrible experienceMy son and I were using the e bikes to got to market and once we got there we needed to park it so we did, when we came back it was locked so my son had to drag it 30 minutes back to the parking station because the customer service guy said so. As he was dragging it back he cut himself several times in the process. We will never use Helbiz again and we suggest to everyone to use it..Version: 4.0.3

BewareHorrible customer service and most of the scooters I attempted to use did not work. Their geo-fencing is also horrible so you get locked out of areas (roads) that other scooters work. Their parking areas do not allow you to complete the ride in them and on multiple occasions I was force to extend my ride to find somewhere it would complete and just walk back to where I needed to be. Customer service is also zero help. If I were you I would stick to a more established scooter or ride share platform, Hel(L) biz is not worth the trouble..Version: 3.3.2

Why have a pause if…I can’t pause when I’m tired. The Pause Zones were so far away that it made it a burden to try and pause. I had to just keep getting charged as I try to catch my breath. Since I couldn’t pause I got charged even when I was resting. They could honestly do better..Version: 3.3.8

Just awfulAvoid like the plague, use Lyft, Lime, or Bird or just walk over this app. Parking with the other scooter companies takes 5 seconds, with Helbiz’s high tech it takes 30! Want a refund because your scooter didn’t unlock (happens 2 out of 3 times)? Get ready to go through an email process unlike every other app. Want to unlock quickly? Nah get ready for an ad and an three unlock screens. Avoid!.Version: 3.4.0

Horrible product. Any other scooter app is better1) No notification was sent to users about the change in city ordinance to require locking scooters to poles. 2) Consistently, scooters will not unlock but still charge me the $1 unlocking fee. 3) scooters occasionally are just faulty in general, not accelerating at all despite having full battery. In each of these cases they have refused to provide refunds, only offering in-app credits. Pathetically bad customer service and a clearly inferior product compared to other scooter companies..Version: 3.4.4

Poor costumer serviceBeware terms and conditions is not clear.Version: 3.4.0

It was impossible to end my tripIt was very difficult to end my trip today. It wasn’t immediately clear that only certain zones are allowed, and it requires picture analysis even when you’re not within the zone. It seems that it would make more sense to confirm the location prior to forcing the image verification process. Once I found a parking zone and positioned the scooter dead center of it, it still would not allow me to end my trip. I had to call to request they end it manually, after trying for 15 mins..Version: 3.4.6

Scam!DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! My boyfriend and I paid the requisite $10 flat rates for use of these scooters around DC ($10 is the lowest you can go—they do not allow you to pay per minute at the outset) and after riding them for ten or fifteen minutes parked them, locked them up, paused the ride, and went through the process of taking a picture of the park job and receiving auditory confirmation that we had done it correctly. We found later when we came back to them that the meter had kept running, and the company was now charging us an additional $35 for the time we had not been using the scooters, despite the fact that they had been paused. Evidently, the pause button does nothing. If I wanted to stop the bike from moving but leave the meter running and retain use of it I would simply take my finger off the accelerator. It’s upsetting that the pause button is essentially useless and meant as a mere blind, but also that the company continues to take money above the paid for amount without any sort of notification that that the original money has run out, and more will be needed to be added. Utterly lacking in morals. Give your business to another company..Version: 3.0.10

Worst Scooter App by farRide was fine until having to park. Only can park in restricted zones and when trying to actually park the scooter in appropriate area, the app fails and says not in authorized parking zone. Spent 20 min trying to troubleshoot and ended up successfully parking eventually in a non-authorized zone some how. Customer support was not available despite being only person in queue. Terrible service overall..Version: 3.3.8

Do not botherI use e scooters twice a day to commute in the city. Helbiz is so bad the scooters are so slow. It slows down too every time there’s even a bit of a down hill or anything it might think is close. I’ve given it so many chances and I can’t anymore Helbiz is by far the worst. Also there are e scooters that are way faster and cheaper. Helbiz isn’t even the cheapest for how slow the scooters go..Version: 3.0.8

Worst app everI couldn’t hire your scooter as it wouldn’t let me make an account. there was no where to put in my activation code and it kept saying that my email was already registered. Waste of time!.Version: 1.1.4

Doesn’t Load, Told to Contact Financial InstituionI’ve seen these bikes around my city lately and with gyms closed thought this would be a great way to get some exercise. Also the bikes look cool. Upon downloading I was charged for (2) card checks and told to contact my financial institution. Being the first city in the US to have these bikes, I would give advice as you will go no where with this happening..Version: 1.6.4

Never again!Renting a bike is such a hassle. You have no idea what the battery life is on the bike; some are SLOW, some are incredibly fast; the bikes all have a whiskey throttle issue… to top it all off, it’s almost impossible to end a ride. My final ride took me over ten minutes to find a place to park it- because if you accidentally ride it into a no-ride zone (since the bike doesn’t have a phone holder, you can’t track where those zones are) you have to WALK the bike to a ride zone. Only until then can you end the ride and stop getting charged. I’ll be sticking to the electric scooters with other companies..Version: 4.0.3

Scooter stops running at €5 balance; no way to get refundMy wife and I rented scooters while spending a day in Pisa prior to catching a flight. We had to load €10 to our Helbiz “wallet,” which was no big deal. However, the scooter stopped running when the balance got below €5. It simply stopped running in the middle of the ride and wouldn’t let us use the remaining balance without “topping up” again. Since we were only using them for a day, we didn’t want to continue adding money to the wallet knowing we’d not use this service again. When we requested a refund of the balance via the chat, the customer service rep said we had to email copies of our IDs, account info, and the amount of the refund request to their customer service department. I didn’t have to provide all this info to pay them and use the app and didn’t want to send all that info to them for €4. Ultimately, we’ll just forfeit the money. But it is shameful that the app does not let you use all the money you put in your “wallet” nor will they refund your remaining balance without providing sensitive information. On top of all this, the scooters are expensive, all things considered. For €6 each, I think we got about 10 minutes of riding. Would’ve been cheaper to take a taxi. I wouldn’t recommend this app based on my experience..Version: 3.3.7

Rented in Miami, awfulOverall not a good experience. First the scooters were terribly slow. Second, the unlimited pass for the day is not actually unlimited. Once you pass 30 minutes they charge you 42 cents per minute. And you only get 4 total rides. Shouldn’t be called unlimited. Third, two of the four rides it gave, were due to technical issues of the scooter that it still charged us for. Just bad all around..Version: 3.4.0

Will be canceling monthly membershipI have a monthly membership and will be cancelling it. Scooters in Miami used to work great but lately they max out at 6mph. I’ve given the company a chance thinking maybe it was just one or two scooter’s malfunctioning. Recently none of the scooters go over 6mph if they even work at all..Version: 3.4.1

Bad customer service. Nonfunctional scooterNon functional scooters. Support has no info or abilities to give assistance. I was informed “fianancial” would get to it later. No idea of when, who I was talked to, etc. left a voicemail as well- no contact or information. I just want to be refunded for we attempted four scooters and only one worked. And I was charged an extended amount of time for parking the nonfunctional scooters. It shouldn’t have to be this hard.Version: 3.0.7

I have never experienced worse serviceIts hard communities with costumer service they don’t care about the clients .I nstructions is not a clear I have never experienced worse service.Version: 3.4.0

Ride will sometimes not end and you will be fully chargedI have had issues with their rides not ending even after submitting a photo. If the request does not go through, you will be fully charged for two hours, and I have had to pay $50+ previously. Their customer support says they did not show the ride was ended and will require you to make the payment. With all of the scooter options, there is no reason to use this one..Version: 3.0.5

Beware - poor biz practiceThey have no problem charging for bikes that do not work, but won’t give a refund. Only coupons for future use. A friend and I both got bikes that didn’t work. Use at your own risk and expense. I will never use this app again solely because this initial experience. Now, you have been warned too. Start ride on a bike that does not work and they will take your money too..Version: 4.0.6

Tried it out, not super happyVery similar to all the other scooter apps out there. Unfortunately the app is very slow when unlocking and locking your ride, this wouldn’t be frustrating but it charges you for that time on the scooter even though it is the slow app. I know it’s just 50 cents, but add it into the initial unlock fee instead of having a process that sneaks that in. Also if a scooter doesn’t work, they still charge you the fees as opposed to bird that if given one star and you haven’t moved the scooter will just cancel the ride. I have only take. About 5 or 6 Helbiz scooters and 2 have not worked, not a great percentage..Version: 3.4.4

I’m disappointedI was traveling to DC to go to a game. When I attempted to scan my bike, it turned on. When I hit the breaks, the bike refused to turn on. When I then tried to return the bike in the exact same spot, the app would not let me return it. I attempted to leave it in a different one and no dice. I was then charged 50 bucks after also attempted to pause the ride, which, after taking several picture from different angles that didn’t work, I gave up. While I understand you might charge me all the money I had on my account, it’s inexcusable you’d charge me for 2 hours of riding I did not do when the scooter did not move..Version: 3.0.8

Scam! After I paid for a monthly unlimited subscription, a couple days later, I found there were no vehicles in my neighborhood. Only after contacting the company, did they admit they had discontinued service in my city. They refused a refund, and instead suggested I travel to another city to use their product. Complete scam. Follow up: they responded by this comment by saying “please contact customer support” - if they’d bothered to read they’d see I already did. They’ll steal your money - don’t hesitate to take legal action if needed to protect your rights..Version: 3.4.10
