100% ripoff of LumosityI got this app because it said it was free. Of course there is a bait and switch there and the free version is limited. But my real problem with this app is that it is an absolute game for game ripoff of Lumosity, which was the first of its kind, going back to a desktop version, pre-smartphone. I decided to try this one out because it was free and my budget doesn’t allow for many non-necessities right now, such as renewing my Lumosity subscription. I was pretty shocked upon launching this app to see that many of the games aren’t even attempting to be one iota different than the games on lumosity which have been around for more than a decade. Lumosity’s free version has the same limitations and I believe that the premium subscription is cheaper, so for my money, I’ll go with the original, thanks..Version: 2.8

What used to be a great app is now plagued by endless adsUPDATE: The ad situation is now even worse than before. The new ads are 10-15 seconds long and pop up in between EVERY exercise. It zaps the joy out of what used to be a great app. I’ll consider using the app a little longer and if this trend continues, I will go with Luminosity and other apps that do the same thing. PREVIOUS REVIEW: This app has been and continues to be very enjoyable to keep coming back to every day. However lately the number of ads that keep popping up have become unbearable specially those annoying stationary ads that I am forced to sit there and stare at for five seconds at a time followed by another five seconds of another stationary ad each and every time I navigate away from the app briefly. I was really considering deleting the app today after more than a year of using it every single day. I understand that advertisement is a necessary part of a free app, however once it starts to interfere with the user experience, it takes the joy away from wanting to use the app, and I suspect I’m not the only one who feels that way..Version: 3.9

This is a game about not being perfect right? Very controversial! This game is about improvement. For this, you need to be able to MAKE MISTAKES AND FIX THEM. In the hex puzzle free game, there is no, restart this level or undo this piece. Instead, you have to COMPLETELY restart and lose your score. Wow. So much for, you can learn from mistakes. Now it’s, BE PERFECT ALL THE TIME OTHERWISE YOU ARE A SUCKY LOSER! I really thought this game would have one of these but as usual App Store disappoints. Try to put some effort in it this time. Unlike every other game in App Store..Version: 4.0

Gets repetitive after a whileHad the paid version for a year. First few weeks were fun - many different games to play and work your way up the difficulty scale. But after a while there are only small incremental changes and you end up repeating what you did in the previous tries. No new brain work required. The progress displays only the last five scores in each game’s individual page. The cumulative aptitude scores are not easy to see progress over time as the score axis scale is too large. Also, the games were not updated at all during the year’s paid subscription. In its favour, the app did not crash even once during the whole year that I used it..Version: 3.9

Apps great but adsThis app is awesome and I've got a streak score nearing to 100 at the moment. However, the ads are really irritating. After each of my games (there's 3) there's always a really loud ad that starts to play which scare the living daylights out of me. I get that you want money but it's just frustrating to deal with them.Version: 4.9

It’s enjoyable and fun but not scientific at allIt’s part of my morning routine and I enjoy the steady improvement I’ve shown, however, it claims the percentiles it gives are for my age group but doesn’t qualify how big an age range that is. I’ve tried asking more than once and received no response. It wasn’t until I just loaded it on my iPad for the first time that I saw it thinks I’m 15-19(!) (I can’t even remember what that looks like) and that actually it can never have had my age as there is no way to enter a date of birth or age 🤷🏻‍♂️ Which somewhat gives the lie to all the so-called science and stats. No wonder they don’t like answering simple questions! So essentially it’s just some fun games that will work your brain, but unless I see evidence to the contrary the claims about science are just lies..Version: 3.9

StagnantThe content really hasn’t change much over the 8 months I’ve been playing. Starting to get a bit stagnant. Give us some new games or add more puzzle content. Example for the word find challenge: Constantly have the same sets of words to do. Daily challenge: I’m quite often given the same games to play for the daily challenge in areas I’m considered advanced in, some games rarely come up in the daily challenge even though they are areas I need to work on. Needs some refreshing. But good app overall for quick simple challenges. Elevate is more sophisticated..Version: 3.9

Limited free versionThe handful of free games are enjoyable while challenging - though all are too short. The graphics in between games are a time wasting distraction. It’s sad that the unlocked game is too expensive for an iphone app - and the review mentioning you cannot unsubscribe is a worry. I’ll play it until I find a more affordable set of games forca better price..Version: 5.2

‘Could’ be great… fake referral system.Initially liked this - and shared it with friends to trial the pro version - but the referral method proved to be fake - and when you try the “contact us” no one responds. Also, a friend did upgrade and found there’s no method to unsubscribe from within the app. Poor customer service..Version: 3.1

As usual, ruined by greed!Thought this game was lovely day one- figured maybe it was like blinkist where you get a daily freebie and pay to access the rest… thought maybe I’d view my progress for a few weeks, see if I got tempted to buy for more in depth analysis or games… but no, by day 2 the ads kicked in, on day 3 the ads got more aggressive and you can no longer view the percentile you scored in unless you upgrade… don’t know what happens next as O deleted it, but fairly sure it’s nothing good! Why do apps have to bully us into buying these days? If you have a quality product you don’t need to do that… aggressive sales are such a massive turn off. Hit them where it hurts, use airplane mode to bypass ads and then delete the app if they bully you into pro modes. The only way to create change is not to let them control you 🤷🏻‍♀️.Version: 3.9

Tricked into subscriptionWhile I emailed the developer inside the trial period looking for assistance as to how to ensure it would not auto renew I never got a response The advise the app gives it to turn off auto renew in account settings - no option exists and no direction given of where exactly to go Subscription then auto renews for 1 year - they have a weekly subscription option but they apply 1 year subscription to fool people into larger payments. Untrustworthy when developers do this - tricking people out of their money. NOT HAPPY !!.Version: 2.8

Good, however...I love the few games I have however would love the rest of them. Without pro I only have about 5 games and after a while they get quite repetitive which is fine however I feel that the price should be lowered for a monthly subscription or have a permanent pay so you pay once and then have all the games forever, another unlikely solution is that it’s all free. I love the design and fact that you get statistics. Thank you..Version: 2.4

MindPalThe games are great. I don’t like that you can not play all the games daily for free..Version: 2.2

Needs some definite improvements. It’s basically hot legs but there are a couple of glitches snd room for improvement. Customer service - sent in issue regarding the path finder quiz giving a blank screen after finishing ten panels and you have to restart to get out of it but it still never completes. Still no reply after 1 month. You can’t play your own music as the app is dominant whenever it’s open. There should be a ‘friend’ mode so you can let your friends have a go at a particular puzzle without impacting your own scores. Not sure that all the scoring systems are correct. The word finder puzzle seems to score low unless you complete it in under 20 seconds which is near impossible ..Version: 3.5

Fun but I’ve deleted it.This app is great fun and I enjoy the variety of brain training games… however. I understand the need to put adverts as I don’t want to pay for the full game, however recently the ads have become more frequent and really long! Honestly, if I ever see the Skillz solitaire advert again I’m going to throw my phone through a window. It seems to appear after every game, it’s the same thing, the same music, the same annoying faces and people, and it runs for too long. If you are going to have ads then have some variety! App deleted for this reason alone..Version: 3.9

Good app with some pointless gamesOverall I was really enjoying this app. Unfortunately, some of the games that require English language skills are pretty questionable. One requires you to omit obsolete words from a sentence and regularly said my choices were incorrect when, as an English teacher, I know I was right. Another related to matching synonyms and often expected you to pair words that were not actually similar. There is nowhere that I could see within the app to voice my concerns. I didn’t feel these language based games (which are largely subjective) were expanding my mind at all, which is a shame as the rest of the games were great fun..Version: 2.8

OkayWish the 3rd and 4th games weren’t locked every day..Version: 2.2

Starts off greatStarts off great and would have been a fun thing to keep up daily and besides a few calibration issues with dragging and dropping the games were enjoyable. Unfortunately after only 2 days of playing from the 3rd day onwards your daily 5 games is changed to 2 (3 if you share the app on messages/whatsapp). I understand they have to make their money somehow but the basic idea of the app (5 mini games a day) should at least be achievable on the free version. OH! And not to mention the advert for this app which got me to check it out in the first place is false advertising because none of the puzzles/brain teasers featured in the advert were in the game itself. 😭.Version: 3.4

Great app but needs tweakingReally good app, puzzles are genuinely challenging and free, you can see your progress every day and the puzzles are changed about daily so it doesn’t get boring. The best thing is very few ads, and none over a few seconds. Worst thing is a couple of the games aren’t right. Eg the number pairs puzzle occasionally has no pairs in a section (I screenshotted to make sure.) The crossword using just letters given doesn’t allow some correct words. And as at least one person has mentioned, the Cube often mistakes your swipes! So I’ve given 4 stars as it could do with an edit..Version: 3.2

Pretty goodPretty good app - awesome/ fun to begin with when you first start playing but would be better if they refreshed the games more often as they get predictable and boring. Had this app for a quite a while now and have only refreshed games once. Update the games often to make it even better!.Version: 5.1

Bored of the same gamesI don’t see the point of the daily streak. I loved the games at first but now I keep getting boring ones. I hate the slicer, pet sort and digit blast is impossible on a phone. I loved the coloured sudoku but only offered that once. The graphics in the falling maths game makes it difficult to see. As others have said the English on some of the games is American spelling and some of it doesn’t make sense. I really loved this app at first but very bored of it now. I’m good at the shape sorting games and line games but it doesn’t move me on quick enough and I end ip repeating puzzles, on option to choose harder levels would be good..Version: 3.0

Good gameGood game, only wish if the pro version is free.Version: 5.2

Good games but ads you can’t removeI love the games on here and I like that you get three different ones each day so you don’t get too addicted for more than 24 hours. I don’t normally mind removing ads on free versions of games, but I’ve started getting ads come up that can’t be removed. The ‘close’ box is covered with an emoji button, which sprinkles faces down the page every time you try to press it. I’m worried this is registering as me ‘liking’ the ad page. I didn’t want to remove this app, but I don’t really see an alternative if the ads push the user to click on things they don’t want to..Version: 3.2

Very confusingSome games are simple and fun, others are just confusing as there is no additional hint or explanation if you don’t understand the instructions. You also can’t choose to skip a game and play an alternative. Plus my choices at the start of what I wanted to focus on were a little hurried and there is no way to change them. Nice interface but not very user friendly..Version: 2.5

Never got to playI thought it was free but before I could playi had to sign up to a 7 day trial before it went to a paid version. As I’ve been scammed that way before I didn’t accept the terms and deleted the game. So I never got to play it. I will never play a game I have to pay for before I see if I like it. I do play games with in app purchases but not where you pay up and don’t have a choice to buy the extra. So it’s was a waste even to down load it..Version: 3.8

I have toHave to rate in order to unlock game today. I’ll give it two stars for making me rate the game.Version: 5.2

Great games but…..Great games. However after a few tries, it won’t let you access much without paying for an upgrade. Which is a MONTHLY fee. Way too costly. Also after a few tries, there are lots of ads. I would pay a reasonable annual or one time fee. But not what they are asking.Version: 5.3

Good but room for improvementI haven’t been paying that long but it is always sending me messages asking me to play it and it doesn’t let you do the full workout until get pro witch you then have to sign in of advertise on facebook or instagram and kids can’t even do that and it said select your age and there was no ages beneath 13 so that made me not very happy because kids can’t play things set for there ages and they could get low percentages for there score Bye from me P.S if you want to bye it shire but I don’t like it much after having it a few weeks..Version: 4.5

Fine I guess but not colorblind friendlyIf you’re looking for an okay way to pass time and “train” your brain this is an okay games based mental test that will suffice. It isn’t exciting but it is pretty good at what it sets out to do. However if you are colorblind like myself, just pass on it. There are too many games in the collection that involve some kind of color related task. That is why I rank it so low. There are no settings in the app to help adjust the colors on the screen. Because of this I won’t subscribe past my free week introduction and I will delete the app altogether afterwards. I get frustrated being asked to do a task that I could do just fine if it wasn’t color based, but then fail at it because there is no simple accommodation. I shouldn’t fail a simple math question because I can’t tell the difference between red, green and orange or blue and purple..Version: 3.8

Good app but there are too many addsMindPal is a great idea and the games are fun. But in the free version you can only play three games a day and are constantly being asked to get the pro version. Along with that adds pop up after each game which is infuriating, I also don’t see many benefits in getting the pro version apart from being able to play all the games and get the full work out. If only they made the free version a little better. But it is a great app flaws aside, the games are fun and being able to see how you are in different brain areas is really helpful..Version: 3.2

FRAUD. ILLEGAL PRACTICES. CORRUPTION.I was testing this app that was not supposed to start until tomorrow April 19th. Even though I liked the app, I had done every single game and got intermediate to advanced on every single one of them. I figured I was done with it as it didn’t provide anything else, so I was planning to cancel it before it renewed tomorrow. And guess what, Apple illegally and fraudulently stole the money from my account the day before and before I could cancel the subscription. Now it takes 48 for a review and for them to decide whether they’ll reimburse me my own money which they took without my permission. And then up to 30 days before I’ll see it back in my account. This warrants for a class action lawsuit. It’s clear they do this every single day with people’s money, using funds that they steal before subscriptions are supposed to renew, and taking their sweet time to return it. And that is for the people who pay attention. Many will not even see that Apple stole their money and will never request it back. There’s definitely a class action lawsuit here..Version: 3.9

Not enough optionsSadly this is a fun game. But there is no way to purchase an ad free version unless you buy the pro version. Which is expensive for a monthly or yearly fee. It’s $119 for a one time lifetime subscription but who know how long it’ll be around and if updates will continue to happen to spend that kinda money. Needs to be more levels of in app purchases. Or a way to play limited my without always being asked to purchase. Example, played today and was only allowed access to 3 of the 5 games/ trainers/ lvls bc the other two were locked by the pro account. Seriously? Just let me play with what’s already unlocked. Fun game, and well thought out. sad I won’t be keeping it..Version: 2.5

Excellent games but marketing is too aggressiveThe games are fun and creative, and mostly challenging. The vocabulary section is a bit dodgy, with occasional informal words, and is a bit too easy. But all the memory, maths and spatial games are terrific. My main issue is that despite relentless in-app advertisements, the free version of the app is still cutting off significant functionality and applying frequent pressure and inducements to users to up their ante. To rate higher, this app needs to offer more for free..Version: 3.1

Fun and challenging but way overpriced and so many adsI really enjoy this app/game and I would like to buy the pro version however I think $70 NZD per year is severely overpriced. I would gladly pay a one off payment of ~$10 to buy the pro version but $70 AND I have to pay each year is just crazy. Think about a AAA game on PlayStation/Xbox that costs hundreds of millions to develop and you can buy it for $100 as a one off payment whereas this game would’ve cost a significant amount less and costs $70 a year to play? It does not compute. Also be warned that if you don’t buy the pro version you will be completely bombarded with ads. I’m going to uninstall because it’s not worth my time with the ads..Version: 2.2

Lock a lot of features, but more detailed than other appsThey do focus on more things about my brain that I actually want to improve than other apps, but they lock a lot of things away for users who pay. Like way too much. After the first day you can only play 3 of the 5 games for daily training, unless you pay or share the app with others every single day, and doing so only unlocks one game, so its only 4/5 of your daily training. Thats literally all I downloaded this app for was to train my brain, its the whole point of the app. Lock away your better games, I really couldn’t care less, but don’t take away the main purpose of the app because I didn’t pay. Just make me watch an ad or something..Version: 2.8

Not cool gameI press the app and then it kicks me out of it that’s not fair.Version: 5.2

Quite fun but…On the one hand this is quite a fun app. The games are short but interesting and I enjoy most of the challenges. However I’ve various criticisms: 1. I got the game having seen it advertised including logic problems, move the match type problems, and a range of other game types none of which appear on the game itself. So I think it’s false advertising. 2. The games are quite repetitive 3. One - Slicer - makes no sense at all. Sometimes you aim for a large area sometimes small, sometimes you can rotate the slicer, sometimes you can’t. I don’t understand the logic behind the play so it is entirely random 4. The scoring isn’t explained and neither is the progress or otherwise 5. It’s stupidly expensive and honestly not worth it. Now I’ve bought it I’ll keep playing probably but I won’t renew and I do resent the misselling. If I’d paid a third of what I did I’d give a better review but I expected much more variety, feedback and creativity for the cost..Version: 3.5

Family sharing keeps failingI purchased mindpal pro and under family sharing rules my wife can use it. However she has had to purchase her pro version first and then i had to ask apple to arrange a refund. This cycle keeps happening at every update and is very disappointing. My wife has had to purchase and then a refund 3 times now and each time she loses her profile info and stats. I don’t recommend this to anyone until mindpal fixes this issue. Unfortunately they have ignored emails and provided no support todate, hence the poor review.Version: 3.5

The game is okThe games within the app are fun, some more difficult than others, however it doesn’t feel like they get progressively harder as you go on some of the games will be a lot harder and some will be so simple to gain a higher score so then it is not really a reflection on how far you have come but rather how easy of a game you got given on that day than another. For some of the word vocabulary ones I think they only work if you know what word you can make, if you have never heard of the word before you would not think to make that word so then you don’t end up learning anything new but just using what you already know. For the reading speed one I’ve found that I will only get a good score if I am already fairly knowledgeable in the subject or familiar with the topic, which then defeats the purpose of that exercise as it then becomes educated guess work..Version: 5.2

A Quick CutoffI get two days of being able to play all games, and then 2 are locked after that? No thanks..Version: 2.2

Everything they sayGranted, science still backs the fact that mind sharpening while using an app DOES NOT work. Exercise, sleep and good diet help in developing a sharp mind and increase chances of developing far longer. But that’s not why I paid for this app. I did it to keep myself busy. That said, there’s annoying things that can be improved. Like having to watch a segmented 5 part circle being filled in after each game, showing progress. Even when they give you a button to “skip this” it’s useless in what it skips. Why 3 stars? It’s an okay app. But it is limited in the games offered and the speed and agility you can attain, then it’s just repetitive. On their speed reading, even some of their facts are incorrect when you have to recall an answer after reading at 500 words a minute. But I give it a passing grade in hopes it will be expanded. So far it hasn’t..Version: 3.5

Bad paywallThe pay wall for this app is ridiculous, started out giving you daily training of 5 exercises and then you could only play those exercises that day unless you went pro. The daily exercises would change along with the ones you could play outside of the daily goal. I liked this. On day 3 however, they locked the 3rd and 4th exercise so you could only play 3 a day unless you paid, and tried to get me to share the app to unlock an extra one for the day. Basically defeats the point of the daily exercise, and I would rather watch an ad halfway through. They also locked out the comparison of your scores to other users on that exercise at day 3. Uninstalled because of it..Version: 2.8

Amazing but..This game is super fun and most of it is free. The only thing is that when you first download the app- nothing is blocked (except your games other than your daily exercise) however as the days go by, more and more things will be restricted like the 3rd and 4th game as well as (thankfully only a few) ads. You can still do most stuff in the free version including updating your daily streak (even without the 3rd or 4th game) and even play an ALWAYS free sudoku block game.Version: 4.7

Started of fun, but game scoring makes no senseI’ve enjoyed the games and for a while deliberated about paying to go pro. But what I don’t like is how a number of the games you cannot score higher as you improve your skill level so you end up stuck and feeling like you’re not progressing even if you are! Examples: 1. Connect dots you have to fill the board, even if you find a more efficient way to solve the board. 2. Letter pop, each word is worth the same points if it’s a 3 letter word or a 5 letter word. But you get more 5 letter words as you advance, so you basically have to type faster to score the same as you did at a lower level. 3. Word search is not really a brain training game and it makes no sense how it is scored. 4. Some of the speed games you don’t get much of a bonus (if any!) for accuracy, so if you just tap fast enough you can still get a high score. 5. Definitions - some of the definitions make no sense or have little bearing to the word they want you to enter! 6. Synonyms - has similar with some of the “similar” words not being as similar as another that might be included on the board. Game is being deleted until these scoring issues get resolved..Version: 3.5

Good appPretty good application. Some quizzes aren’t well explained..Version: 2.2

UnsubscribeHow do I unsubscribe. I keep paying and there is no option to stop membership in settings..Version: 3.9
