Sandwich Sudoku for Positive User Reviews

Best Sandwich Sudoku App!-excellent variety of hand-crafted puzzles at various difficulty levels -allows for double notation unlike most other sudoku apps -provides actual hints to the puzzles Suggestions: -allow some way to sync progress between devices so we don’t have to complete every puzzle again times to access them on a new device -allow for horizontal orientation on iPad as there is more than enough room for it.Version: 2

Superb sudoku variant!I’ve been watching these guys on YouTube for ages and delighted they’ve brought out an app! It works brilliantly and has puzzles for all levels. well worth the money, especially as they’re regularly releasing new puzzles!.Version: 1.01

Refreshing spin on sudokuI just spent hours playing this game, loving it the whole time. its nice to see a refreshing change to such a classic. the puzzles are well designed... clearly handcrafted. well done to the creators. anyone complaining about the ui should take a chill pill. its better designed than most (if not all) sudoku apps out there. now give me more hand crafted puzzles already..Version: 1.02

Great AppThe app is great. I love the different puzzles. There’s just enough of a grind to keep you from skipping puzzles, but not so much it gets tedious. I really find that tapping on the sandwich totals is helpful. You should consider adding a way to see the options outside the sandwich. For instance, if it’s 23, have a button to show options for 12 as well..Version: 2.1

Great puzzles!I don’t rate many apps, but this app will become an exception for me. This app is fantastic and will capture Sudoku fans interest for hours. The puzzles are intuitive and all contain a logical process compared to standard computer generated Sudoku puzzles. Well done..Version: 2.6

Awesome!!I love the channel and I love this app. Just one issue, I start playing, go to work, come back to play during break and it starts you over. If the game ever times out or refreshes, it starts you over. I’ve had to start over 3 times now 🙁 Other than that, the tools are great! I’m learning different ways to use the tools as I go. Thank you!.Version: 1.01

1.02 Fixed it!Bigger font for notes and saving progress even when you make an unorderly exit are huge! I Really enjoy the challenge of this game..Version: 1.02

Very good puzzlesBit late to this but I have only just discovered the Sandwich Sudoko variant so very happy to have found this app. Excellent puzzles however I dislike the way it automatically deletes my other “possibles” in the region/line etc when I place a definite number. It very often impacts on other decisions so prefer to review and erase myself, as with pencil and paper. Is there a way to turn this feature off? Also what do the random numbers in circles under the puzzle number on the menu page mean? Can’t find any explanation anywhere. Other than that I am really enjoying the puzzles and format..Version: 3

I wishThe hints are too cryptic. I wish there is a detailed step by step walkthrough of the solution. That will e better than YouTube views that I enjoy on a daily basis..Version: 1.09

Top Sudoku AppFar better than the usual sudoku apps. Can't wait for the next Sudoku App from Cracking the Cryptic. They take the pleasure of Sudoku's playing to a higher level..Version: 1.08

Fun and challengingI’ve been playing a normal sudoku app for a while and got pretty bored of the puzzles. These are so challenging and so much fun. They are also fun to play again and again as you learn different strategies. I also love the interface compared to other sudoku apps. It’s really easy to use once you get the hang of it! Worth the money!.Version: 2.6

1-9 I give it 11Great puzzles, very well crafted. Some easier than others, several were a real challenge for me. I have had a lot of entertainment working on solutions, thanks so much for creating this app..Version: 1.09

Nice Work GuysLovely app and would have been 5 stars if it included an (auto) rotate option on iPad. Would be better gameplay in landscape mode with controls offset to the right (or left as an extra option)..Version: 1.01

Give us more puzzles!!The mechanics of this app are beyond fantastic. The puzzles range from rudimentary to challenging. The array of settings provided are plentiful to accommodate any sudoku solver’s needs. I hope they some day create a sequel to the Sandwich Sudoku app!!! I tried the chess sudoku and was let down in comparison. I find this style more rooted in deduction based reasoning and critical thinking when comparing the two..Version: 3

Love this AppI love the app design. Very well thought out and includes all the tools necessary. Would love to see a horizontal orientation for IPad but that’s just a minor gripe..Version: 1.01

Great AppEven with out handcrafted and absolutely brilliant puzzles, the user interface of the app already makes it the best sudoku out there. I find myself looking forward to the beginning of each month to get the newest puzzles. I highly recommend.Version: 2.2

Awesome!Love this app! I’m not an advanced sudoku player, but I’m really enjoying this variation. The tools are great and enhance the puzzles. And although I haven’t needed a hint so far, I’m glad they are available as I’m sure I’ll need some later in the game. Cracking the Cryptic and Studio Goya have created a smooth, polished game. Looking forward to more variations in the future!.Version: 1.01

Great content, with a decent UIWhat sets this apart from other apps is the fact that the puzzles have an intended logic path and the hint system helps guide you along that path, rather than giving you the contents of a random cell. The app is only let down by some missing basic features, such as “resume last puzzle” and a dark mode. But on the whole, well worth the purchase.Version: 2.5

Very fun and easy to useI have every one of these apps by cracking the cryptic and I gotta say this is my all time favourite version of sudoku to play. They are a great balance of challenging and satisfying making you work for but not have to fight for every next step or clue. It also comes together and concludes is a really satisfying way overall great experience and app.Version: 3

Love all their sudoku appsJust finished all the puzzles. It is a lovely relaxing, and challenging, activity to pick one of the puzzles and work on it in the evening. I found a few quite tough - and had to laboriously try multiple paths, eliminating them one by one. So it was rewarding and good value for money to get a few weeks of challenging entertainment. The same clean interface as the rest of their apps. The tips, if you want to use them, are a bit difficult to understand - maybe they could be highlighted on the screen. Overall: very good and quite enjoyable..Version: 3

I’ve never like sudoku...until now** I know one of the developers** I’ve never cared about sudoku, despite liking games. Knowing one of the developers was enough for me to try. If you like sudoku, hard to imagine not liking this app. UI is clean and bug free. The ‘tools’ set this apart from other “brain games” I play. They’re intuitive and functional, even for a beginner. Without the tools, I would play this for 30 sec on someone else’s phone, and never touch it again. With the tools, I’ll pay $5 in a heartbeat, and play it on my daily commute. If you’re a sudoku fan, you will not regret buying this app..Version: 1.02

Everything you would want from a sudoku appI would give $5 bucks and get nothing in return just to support CTC, so maybe I am a bit biased. With that said, the controls are super easy to use, the premise is explained well, and hints follow a natural progression to guide you through if you need it. Along with the tons of levels of various difficulties, the amount of gameplay options you have to fine tune it to your skill level is insane. Can’t wait to grind through the rest of these levels..Version: 2.6

Love it......Give the interface a little time and you’ll love it. Seemed clumsy at first but after a few puzzles it grows on you. I really hope there’s an update that allows horizontal play on my iPad. Thanks to everyone involved for a great app..Version: 1.01

GREAT Puzzles, Poor InterfaceAfter discovering Cracking the Cryptic on YouTube recently, I went on a sudoku binge. They completely renewed my puzzle passion and I learned a ton of new tricks for expert puzzles. So I was easily able to justify spending $5 on their app to support them. Like the headline says, it has incredible puzzles! I really enjoy the challenges and the fresh feel to them. My biggest complaint is the interface and the hints. For comparison: the sudoku.com app has a MUCH better hint system. I actually learned some new logic processing from it. This app is wordy and doesn’t “show” hints that apply to your specific notes. And I wish I could press-and-hold a number to “lock” it (also like the other app) If they could incorporate a better hint system and better entry (instead of opening the menu, toggling, exiting) it would be a flawless app!.Version: 2.7

Really Great gameAn excellent implementation of a fascinating Sudoku variant. Try it if you don't know Sandwich or 'between 1 and 9' Sudoku, I find it more satisfying than either straight or killer. Great gameplay, useful tools, (mostly) useful hints Loses a star for a few minor points: - hints and number guides (ie the numbers that can make up the row or column totals) should be smaller and float so you can move them out of the way to see what is behind them -some of the hints are incomplete or too obscure - I can't find a way to reset the record: I've completed every level and when I retry one, I have to remember which one I am trying because they all show completed (and relaunching the app comes back to home, not to my current game).Version: 1.04

Hints are sometimes more cryptic than the puzzlesI have been enjoying this and other Sudoku apps by this maker. However, sometimes when I get stuck and look at the hints, the hint is not explained well. Can’t get past the hint let alone the puzzle unless I just accept the ultimate result of the hint (i.e. the stated hint result is to place a specific number in rXcY). I understand there are word space limitations, but I suggest improvements in the hints as this is a way of learning. Also, the game does NOT identify what level you are in after you initially select a level or when closing. So when you stop and want to come back to it, what level/game were you on? There is no indication such as “do you want to continue with...” or icon depicting a partially completed puzzles. Frustrating..Version: 3

Fantastic puzzlesI absolutely love your handcrafted puzzles. Unlike a random computer generated one, there is always a fairly intuitive way of moving the puzzle forward. Feature suggestions: - iPad rotate option. Portrait mode on a 12.9” device is very impractical - make the combination window movable, so it doesn’t cover the screen..Version: 2.5

Great, but drains battery fast! This app is great. I found it through their YouTube channel and I’m pleased with it. But, I believe it suffers from the same things a lot of unity engine apps do, in that it drains the battery really quickly. Often because the frame rate is not capped and it uses way more resources than it should. A basically static display shouldn’t use many resources at all. Fix that and it’d be 5 stars..Version: 2

Wish this app included "traditional" SudokuI like the new take on Sudoku, but also wish the app had a traditional mode as well with all these great note taking tools @ our disposal!.Version: 1.01

Best sudoku uiThis is a well designed app with high quality features.Version: 1.09

Good, but could be betterThe games are really good and get progressively harder. Portrait mode on iPad is cumbersome, please allow landscape. (If coded in Swift, fairly easy to do). Disappointed that iPad and iPhone are not kept in synch. I got through several games on iPad then went to iPhone and had to start from level 1 again. While we’re waiting for synch, please remove the lock so that I can at least choose which game I want to play on either device without having to work through them all again. Locking levels is no benefit. Also, 5 in corner pencil looks the same as 5 in the other pencil mode so please apply different styling eg colour or font style..Version: 2.5

I’m hooked!I’m spending way too much time on these, but having a blast! I wish the corner and center pencil marks were separate like they are on classic sudoku app. In this app, if you change one, the other changes too. Might as well not pretend they have different functions..Version: 3

Great puzzles, powerful and flexible but quirky UII was not immediately sure that it would be worth paying for a fairly small number of handcrafted puzzles, compared to the seemingly infinite variety of other (free or ad-supported) apps I have used. I am extremely glad that I took the chance. The initial 40 puzzles are fantastic. The difficulty scales nicely, and over time I learned new techniques for solving which became necessary. Puzzle 36 may be one of my favorite sudokus of all time. Initially some of the features of the UI were a bit of a mystery to me, until I watched some of the puzzle designers’ videos on YouTube (search Cracking the Cryptic). The UI closely reflects the solving styles of the designers and the tools they have developed for solving. In their solving style, notes occupying the nine number pad positions are candidates which _could_ be in a given square (I was familiar with this style). Notes closely spaced together and centered horizontally represent the _complete_ list of candidates for a given square. Numbers can be entered into multiple cells at once using multiple selection, which can be done by dragging or by using the multiple selection tool to select discontiguous squares. The tools have a lot of modality, having slightly different effects depending upon the context of the current selection(s). By the last puzzle I was extremely proficient with the UI but there was a bit of a learning curve to use it effectively. I am well aware that creating an in-app tutorial would be a lot of programming work, but I think creating a video tutorial for the UI would be well within the wheelhouse of the cryptic crew and the app could link to it to be helpful for future users. I am now a convert to handcrafted sudoku, I hope the promised new monthly content materializes!.Version: 1.04

A wonderful puzzle appThis is a great app. The controls are clear and offer multiple ways to mark cells including colors, corner pencil marks, center pencil marks, and Xs. I was initially disappointed that I couldn’t combine corner pencil marks with center marks in a cell to denote different things, but found that it wasn’t necessary. It took me a while to find a use of colors, but I ended up using it to mark cells in a row or column of a square that must contain either a 1 or 9 but for which I couldn’t yet determine which. Only the hardest levels required this for me to solve them..Version: 1.06

FantasticExcellently written puzzles, nice interface, and very helpful support!.Version: 2.3

Very enjoyable variation of sudokuI often find standard sudoku puzzles a little frustrating, but this variant of the game gives me more clues to work with, and that seems to help. I’ve played 32 of the games so far. I like the user interface, although I might want to make a few suggestions after I’ve had more experience playing the game..Version: 1.04

Great Suduko VariantBeen waiting for an app version of this suduko variant and like the layout and gameplay and the tools to help solve the puzzle. Just two niggles. It would be better if the iPad version would sync with the iPhone and visa versa. At the moment if I play on the iPad I have to repeat that level on the iPhone before I can move onto a new level on the phone, and then do the same on the iPad. It needs to update at least on completed levels, but better still record and sync the game position. My other wish is that if you click on the sandwich number to see the variants it fills the whole screen and obscures what you are trying to fill in on the grid. Needs to float so you can move it around the screen or take up less screen space. Not major issues, more of a wish list for the future..Version: 1.02

A Wonderful ChallengeThis is the most fun I've had with a Sudoku app. It's well designed and each puzzle presents a really nice challenge. Cracking the Cryptic and their dev have really done a great job with this app. The interface was a bit confusing at first but after the first couple of puzzles I've grown very accustomed to it..Version: 1.02

Best sudoku variant appAll of the puzzles are unique in their own way so solving them never seems tedious. Great app, especially after the most recent update which supports even more detailed notation..Version: 1.09

So much fun!Amazing features make gameplay intuitive and fun, and a great variant of a classic game! I’d love to see syncing across devices, and/or a time comparison to other players. Thanks for the awesome app!.Version: 2

Loving it so farEnjoying the gradual difficulty bump. A couple things I would love to see added: 1. iCloud sync or something similar to sync levels between devices 2. Apple Pencil support on iPad so I can write in the squares rather than having to tap the numbers.Version: 2.3

Don’t hesitate - well worth the moneyOne of the best variants of sudoku presented beautifully by a very talented team. Hand curated puzzles will always outshine computer generated content. Visit the developer’s YouTube channel for more fun..Version: 1.09
