HeadHelp: Self Care & Vent for Negative User Reviews

Don’t expect any help. The app is so popular now that posts get buried. It more of a venting app because your chances of getting responses are small. I have no idea why anyone would make this their first pick for an advice/help app when there are more that actually deliver what they say they will. And I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I HATE THE DITTO RESPONSE! It feels like a slap in the face when someone responds with “Ditto” to an incredibly personal problem. The chances that you are going through the same thing I am, that I’ve outlined in great detail, is incredibly small. It feels like when you have a conversation about someone and they try to put themselves in with, “oh well, I had this issue too…” Sometimes I don’t want to feel like other people experience the problem because it no longer feels personal, it no longer feels like I should be bothered because clearly it’s not that big a problem if everyone else is experiencing it at the same time as me..Version: 8.9

Changes?I can’t see what I am typing to post at all until after I hit post. The new paywall to post is an incredable dissapointment to witness this app develope. Helponymous was a great free space to communicate with others that also felt alone. But Headhelp has taken away what was good about this app; an all inclusive message board for people suffering alone with feelings of isolation to connect with others going through something similar. Helponymous connected people that had otherwise felt completely estranged. Of course there are others that struggle as we do but if we have no way of expressing ourselves how will we ever know we aren’t alone? Heart-wrenching seeing this app lose its most worth-while asset..Version: 8.11

Weird contact infoI need to contact the team cause my app keeps crashing but they’re email isn’t eligible to send anything! I keep getting error reports when sending an email. Please help, I love this app and want to use it some more..Version: 7.12

You have to pay for the most part. It’s a really good app but for most of the things you need to do throughout this app like message multiple other people or even get avatars or join communities about what you want to cope with, you need to pay a minimum of 15$ USD a month. It’s needs to be cheaper or atleast free because this is ridiculous. Imagine telling people or kids with mental issues that they need help with that they need to pay for what they seek for. Pure stupidity for the owner of whoever created that or thought of putting prices onto an app for people with coping mental illnesses or just purely want to vent. If you don’t want to pay money at all, honestly just get discord and go onto a server meant for coping with mental problems or just purely want to vent. It would be for absolutely free and it would be as bad as this app who demands money like EA would after a games release..Version: 7.4

I wanna give this 5 stars but here’s my issue...I love the concept of this App! It gives people the opportunity to feel heard and get the support needed for various life issues. My only lot problem is... the price. Listen i understand folks gotta make money, but considering the matter... of mental health and how it’s costly just to have therapy and insurance doesn’t usually cover those kinds of cost... this App should not cost this much. As of now due to the pandemic, there are more people needing outlets for mental health now than ever. I would suggest a yearly subscription option and a monthly and get rid of that weekly option. Make those prices reasonable for consumers. Mental health access matters a lot for everyone..Version: 3.7

Took my money that I’d like back pleaseIt said try premium for free and I clicked on it, thinking i would try it free for a week and then I got charged 50 dollars..Version: 8.5

Nothing is free to try. Do not downloadEvery single thing is locked, I can’t even see if I like the app before I buy it. Cmon, get on the users level and make something accessible for a short time atleast..Version: 5.5

This app is ok..I think it could be better if it was moderated faster. There have been a lot of rude people on here lately which just makes others feel worse. Probably won’t be using this app anymore. If you want to use this app: just beware because others will most likely treat you like trash if they don’t like what you’re venting about..Version: 7.12

Shameful preying on those who need support mostDon’t be fooled. This is not by any means free. How much did they want monthly?! Enough to make me come here to leave this review before swiftly deleting the app in disgust. There are countless free forums and places for this kind of stuff with loads of people going through similar experiences. Quora is a good example. I’ll see you there..Version: 6.2

Why are posts limitedI love that we are absolutely anonymous but i hate that you only get to post a certain amount before you have to either wait 24 hours to vent again or pay for it. it’d be so much better if we could just get everything off of our chest as much as we want, you already made a lot of things cost money, making that important feature cost money too just feels upsetting and unnecessary.Version: 8.2

An anxiety helping app that provokes anxietyThe app itself looks really good, though the forums seem to be quite “young” in nature, the biggest problem I have is the check in system. The idea that, should I miss a day, there’s a counter that resets translates as stress and anxiety around an app that preaches to be able to assist with that. Counter intuitive, I think. Some days you just don’t want to open your phone, and there shouldn’t be a penalty for that. If anything, it should be encouraged. I’m at a stage where I think I’ll be deleting, literally for the sake of my mental health..Version: 7.4

Was great til it wasn’tI’m here because I’m not allowed to post anymore and I’m not sure why. I guess posting is now a paid feature. The point of the app was to allow an online space for support for whatever you needed to say. It’s great in concept and the anonymity is quite comfortable. I was using this as a tool to keep my head above water when I needed and to keep a log of my feelings whenever I met with my therapist. Some of the responses are helpful and others are forceful. Some of the posts are strange or very abrasive because you’re allowed to say almost anything, but nevertheless you can scroll and not interact with them. The community is generally nice depending on what you post and it is effective in boosting mood. Unfortunately paying for an app and a mental health professional is out of the question for me. It’s abrupt presentation and forceful manner of blocking posts but not comments is strange. Oh well 🤷🏾‍♀️.Version: 8.1

DOESN’T WORKHow affective is this app for mental health if it won’t even allow you to write posts? (before you ask, I am aware of post limits if you don’t pay for the app).Version: 6.0

Most disappointed I’ve been in a whileOne star for how visually cute the app is, even just seeing the avatar’s faces on the daily affirmation notifications is charming. One star for the concept of the app, a place where people can go with struggles and get the support of others anonymously. When my friends and family are unavailable to support me, and I cannot afford therapy, a free forum for support sounds like a dream come true! The app does not fulfill its potential. I was shocked at the fact that I can’t join any of the seemingly hundreds of specialized support groups without paying. The cute avatars get confusing fast because there is such a small selection of them. People in the free forum are mostly just dumping confusing, as well as often deeply disturbing, thoughts and questions, about things like planning their own suicide. Even worse, none of the posts get substantive responses, usually they get no response at all. The one post I’ve made received an irrelevant, bot-like response that was maddening because it sounded like they didn’t even read what I wrote. Looking through the free forum is thus much more depressing than helpful. After that, what’s left? Even the meditation section is almost completely locked to free users, and does not feel professional. I had been considering trying this app for over a year, and now it will be deleted after just a week :/.Version: 8.11

It’s okIt’s an alright app — thing I dislike the most is that you have to pay for the mental health categories you most see fit to talk and vent about. It’s unnecessary and a little ironic as this is a mental health app but you have to pay for choosing what you need support with..Version: 8.3

GarbageThis app was extremely helpful for my mental health and now you have to pay to write a post - absolute garbage - im outtie lol - fix it before you lose all your users ...Version: 8.1

Charged after deleting my account and app?I downloaded the app, I decided it was not what I was looking for. So I deactivated my account and wrote my reason, then I removed the app from my phone. I opened my junk mail a few days later and noticed I’d been charged by them $75.99. I have tried to get in contact with them, with no reply? I do not believe I should be charged after deleting my account and I am deeply disappointed as it is alot of money and I never intended on paying that amount of money!!.Version: 8.9

I haven’t been able to post in monthsThis happened before in December where it just kept saying that I have to wait 23 hours before posting but it stayed like that for some time, only then a new update came and it reset it seems and I was able to post again. Now its happened again it’s been like that for many months and since there’s no update it’s just stayed. I don’t want to delete the app because I don’t want to lose all my past posts but I really wish I was able to post again and that it wouldn’t get stuck like this..Version: 8.9

Could (should!) be much betterIt really saddens me to see that you have to pay to post more than 3 vents a day or send more than a few messages. i'm feeling extremely down and have no one to talk to, i had a chance to talk to someone there but after i sent them like 4 messages and before i could even open their message that included their snapchat, the whole think closed and i was offered a subscription. i think it's unfair to profit from people's bad mental state, and most of us don't have enough money to pay for it so the only chance for us is to send just a few dm's to a person, not even start an actual conversation and then rot in pain by ourselves. it's unfair to want to profit off suicidal people, some of us just want someone to talk to, someone to get us out of this, that's why this app could be saving lives, but instead it's just making everything worse. when you desperately need someone to talk to, you won't be happy to wait a literally whole day for them to reply or for you to be able to reply to them. sad..Version: 5.3

So helpful until the paywall cameI was able to post enough and receive comfort/advice when I wanted and it helped so much. I didn’t feel alone anymore. I had a way to vent and find others who could help me! It was great! But then one day I open the app to post and *bam*”Purchase to unlock all HeadHelp features!” I thought it was a glitch so I came back another day and it was the same. I can’t buy this at the moment. You shouldn’t have to pay to use the MAIN PURPOSE OF THE APP. It’s like advertising a game then making you pay to actually unlock the game instead of letting you play the basic game and offering paid add-ons. For those that want to pay: This app is great! For those who can’t: Sure you can read through them, but I don’t believe that will give you the direct thing you need. I feel really betrayed. It actually really hurts. I feel like I’ve lost an important friend, which sounds dumb but it’s how I feel. To the developers; Please, for the love of god, remove this new paywall. People need this app and some can’t afford to pay for it even if it’s a small price. I NEED this app for comfort and I’m sure others feel the same as I do..Version: 8.1

Removed the option to make your own postSince when do you have to pay to make your own post that’s BS that was the one reason why I use this app and the one thing to save my sanity when I’m in a bad situation but now they put a price on such a basic feature that should be accessed by all, without this feature there’s literally no point in this app..Version: 8.0

UnresponsiveWhy does this app stop working every now and then ah! It’s so frustrating. When I’m having real conversations about deep issues and I could really use some help that’s when the app goes unresponsive it’s crazy. I’ve had to delete it once and I couldn’t continue as I had lost that version I had to start afresh now it’s doing the same thing again.Version: 7.11

Forum for toxic environmentThe concept of the app is great, but it needs improvement. The app does not live up to “no shame no blame.” Anyone can comment on your post and can say whatever they want. More than a few times people have not been kind in their comments on my and others posts. So you can actually feel more hurt than you arrived after using the app because people can be insensitive. This can be dangerous because someone could take it upon themselves to hurt themselves after seeing an insensitive comment directed at them, as the people using this app are vulnerable and often deal with mental health issues. Also, there is no censoring and while there is a way to block people, it’s not accessible..Version: 6.3

Not for everyoneI’m sorry but I found this overall to be a negative and upsetting experience. I don’t understand the merit in all users being mapped to a limited number of avatars. It means there’s no continuity or progress in dialogue and, worse, what appears to be a static body of people complaining that their lives lack meaning and venting in a way that is actually quite troubling. Quite literally I have found myself counselling them same avatar about practically the same topic three times and that just leaves me feeling like I wasted my time. I can imagine it must have been 3 different people but that’s purely what I imagine. I was unceremoniously ignored and booted out of the so-called Ambassador’s group where I tried to raise concerns which I think are real and serious. I don’t think this sort of thing is harmless and a good idea: I’ve found myself confronted with multiple characters claiming they are ideating and in one case actually attempting suicide. It could be they were exaggerating but their texts were unambiguous. I would urge you to take care and not just give this a go because at least in my case it has clearly been a distressing experience which became clear when talking it through with a family member and even before she said it I realised I had to stop using it for the sake of my own mental health. It’s apparently believed to be helping others so I can’t speak to everyone’s experience. In any event I wish you well on your own journey for peace and wellness..Version: 7.6

Good intentions; bad communityI like the thought behind this app, they’re taking a step forward in the mental health field and giving people an alternative to let out some thoughts without the pressure. There are a few major drawbacks, there’s a lot of toxic people in these forums and it’s sort of a double edged sword, although you’re granted anonymity, that also mean people can say anything to you as well and sometimes you can leave the app feeling worst than you came and there’s no quick/active way to stop people like that from commenting. The devs have to take this more seriously and put a stronger algorithm in place to prevent abusive language form being spread on the platform. Not to mention it is a bit buggy, sometimes I go in my DM and can’t get out, or I respond to someone and it’ll get stuck on the message screen..Version: 7.0

You shouldn’t have to payThere is nothing worth paying for to be honest.Version: 7.8

Bullying/HarassmentI've been using this app for about a year and a half and it has been helpful until a few months ago and I no longer feel safe or heard. I've only received three harmful comments and one inappropriate message from several users and it stopped for a few months after reporting them. The bullying from this Jinto started a month ago and I reported the comments made to me immediately. I noticed an increase in others having harmful and threatening messages and comments in the past two weeks and have had to constantly block and report this Jinto. This bully, when called out or when a topic about sexual abuse, self-esteem, intimacy, self-identity, race, or LGBTQ is discussed in the app, tends to say cruel things such as victim blaming, projections, sexual harassment, and racist comments. I fell victim to his bullying again just 30 minutes ago after taking a couple of data from the app. How is this person still able to use this app?! Is anyone going to do anything about this?!.Version: 8.9

DeletingWas a cool app to vent until they changed how many times you can post 🙃.Version: 7.12

Profiting off mental health seriously? This app is a great day of modern day capitalism. I agree too a certain extent that not everything can be free, but seriously profiting subscribers for their mental health? Doesn’t sit right with me instantly uninstalled. Funny the way certain certain areas are also locked when you first sign up such as ‘acne’. Skin care company’s already make billions off acne per year and now you want add another money making incentive towards the sufferers? We can’t even speak about our minds anymore without a monthly subscription..Version: 7.7

Need to pay?I got this app and was LOVING it, the day after I got it I could post anymore without paying? Which really sucks because this app was really helping me. I’m not able to pay for it😕.Version: 6.3

This app should be free or cheaper than it isI use this app as a main coping mechanism for venting and it blocked me off from posting all of a sudden, saying I reached my post limit and that I need to pay. No offence but you should at least make that core feature free without forcing a paywall onto someone. Not fair at all..Version: 6.4

NOT FREEIt’s described as free on ADs but it isn’t. You have to pay a subscription fee per month. Preying on vulnerable people tut tut..Version: 7.4

Pay To Play :(Exceptionally disappointed to see the highway robbery pricing this app has for literally any features beyond the mood notation! Profiting off mental health needs is absolutely sickening. It’s unconscionable that they want $5/WEEK for people to feel like they have a safe space to vent. Yes, that’s still far cheaper than therapy, but don’t you think those of us who can’t afford therapy might not want to put out a lot of recurring cost for an app?? I had decent hopes for this app but of course, like everything else surrounding mental health improvement, the cost is a high barrier and this app, while a good idea, is too good to be true. Pass..Version: 5.5

I like it!I think this app is fabulous. I referred it to a friend, only for us to discover that it’s only available on iPhones?! That’s super unfortunate. But I hope something that will be changed in the near future? For Androids as well!?.Version: 6.2

Paying to ventI have to pay to be able to access specific categories, have unlimited DMs or one-on-one chats with people, etc. The one-on-one chatroom never even loads to begin with? I come to this app crying after a long day and for what? Screw this!.Version: 6.3
