Banktivity for Positive User Reviews

Awesome Support, Great Company!I have been with Banktivity for 15 years now and they are a customer first business which really is a rarity these days. As long as my bank doesn’t shut down the connection, the app and software works flawlessly. With that said, I have to give credit where it’s due and the folks at Banktivity are continually working to stay ahead of the numerous/frequent changes occurring on a daily basis throughout banking industry….I can surely attest to that. When my bank started to limit connectivity through all the new security protocols, I was assured they were working hard to re-establish those connections and seeking other means to ensure those connections are maintained in the future. Maintaining the ability to connect with several hundred banks is not an easy task. As frustrating as it can be that the banks are continually changing, it’s re-assuring to know there is a team at Banktivity who legitimately cares and is actively working on creating new solutions. Thank you to Ian Gillespie at Banktivity for the extra time he took to resolve my concerns today!.Version: 8.8.2

Great App!Have been using Banktivity since 2014. The latest version (Ver 8) has improved a lot. Recommend to manage personal and small business finances. Thanks Banktivity!.Version: 8.0.5

Update on previous review.Plus points. When I wrote my previous review, I had not realised that a Banktivity subscription service included an app for all devices. I have just installed the updated app on my iPhone and am delighted with the vast improvements included in this version. Both iPhone and MacBook apps are now Cloud synchronised and operate seamlessly, as before. I intend to go ahead with my Banktivity subscription following the trial period. It provides excellent value for multiple device users. For further attention. The fact that there is a lack of synchronisation with LSE stock prices is currently being dealt with by the company, and I trust them to solve it. My Apple ID remains desynchronised from iCloud. I am treating this as a separate problem unconnected with Banktivity, and intend to solve it..Version: 8.1.2

Worth every pennyBanktivity can handle it, whether her approach or his approach. That says a lot. iPad Banktivity app excellent for checking total income or spending in any given time frame, any given category, or any given account. Just slide the edges of the active box, almost instantly have total above and individual transactions listed below. iPhone goes absolutely everywhere, so always available. When you are done, sync it, sometime when it is convenient to you..Version: 8.8.2

The Best finance tool for home budgettingI'm been using Banktivity for many years. It is a fantastic piece of software that really delivers. Whenever I have had the need to contact Banktivity Support they have always solved my issues quickly. Can't fault this budgetting tool. It's the best there is..Version: 8.1.3

Trying new versionI have been underwhelmed by their customer service in the past two weeks, the chat portion. If it is possible to feel rudeness through a chat, the guy I worked with was excellent at communicating it. The software itself, every rendition I seem to purchase each year, seems a bit better though not really needing a complete upgrade asking for purchase. I do like that they have done away with the direct access subscription. That was a rip off considering that Quicken offers it for free. Quicken also does not require you to purchase different verions so frequently. Banktivity is good for Mac users though I would appreciate a version that IGG can simply upgrade more instead of the excessive need to purchase the NEWEST version..Version: 8.1

Does all that I need it to without issueI left Quicken for Windows because I was tired of my software becoming outdated and unusable after 2 years. I also wanted to find a Mac OS native app to prevent me having to use emulating software. So, I spent a lot of time looking around wound up going with Banktivity. I could not be happier. The parts that I need were in the system and worked. Bugeting (it is because of this software that I started to do envelope budgeting and it was awesome), tracking and reconciling transactions (I like to hand enter my transactions and verify them as they come though), auto downloading transactions and basic reporting. I have even found that the bulk editing has been a huge help as well..Version: 8.7.9

Love the Envelope budgetting!Works great with my Canada banks (Alterna, TD), but the feature I love best is the envelope budgetting! So much better than living paycheck to paycheck! We quickly watched our savings grow as we took control of our spending with envelope budgetting, making it so much easier to answer the question "Do I still have money set aside for this purchase, or do I have to make some hard choices?". The cloud sync between Mac and iPhone/iPad works great too - financial info available to me on the go to make better decisions..Version: 8.1.1

Really UsefulI enjoy the convenience of keeping my banking in the cloud, and the Report function comes in very handy at tax time. I've been a user for years, though I probably use only the most basic features. I only downgraded by a star because in the past I've fallen down a rabbit hole when upgrading versions, and I still get confused and apprehensive about which password I have to enter when; quite possibly it's been made simpler, and I've just been successful in avoiding it lately..Version: 8.8.2

Better than some here might lead you to think.Reviewers really should leave aside the pro/anti subscription argument when assessing software. It’s the way of the world people, it’s happening, get over it. The latest iterations of the app are well implemented across all platforms and there have been many tweaks and improvements. Personal observations, (we are not all the same): I do not use bank downloads nowadays, I have in the past found the information provided by banks to be not formatted to my needs in any event, requiring payee corrections etc. which doesn’t make it worthwhile for me. I have multiple currency accounts, they all interact well together. I have a stock and shares portfolio (LSE) which updates overnight and is accurate to the penny (subject to rounding). For live pricing I use my brokers app, or something else specifically designed for that purpose. A daily snapshot is sufficient for me. Mutual fund prices do not update presently, they have in the past, I suspect that functionality will return at some point. (They’re not exactly volatile are they?) Budgeting is both flexible and informative. There are some other features I cannot comment on, I don’t bother with tags and envelopes; and I haven’t written a cheque in many years. I never have had issues with syncing between devices. I have been using personal finance applications since the early 90s (MS Money, Quicken, and so on; all easily imported). Banktivity is the best yet, I see no reason to try anything else, subscription and all..Version: 8.1.1

Best financial software for Apple devicesI’ve been using Banktivity since version 4 and I can tell you that their recent pivot to support all devices with a single feature set and tiered pricing plans, was their best decision yet. The subscription model is the most sustainable and it shows. They are making constant improvements and I no longer need to fire up my Mac to manage my finances. Their recent inclusion to allow schedule changes on all devices is fantastic. And the little changes (tap to view the transaction instead of swipe is much needed). Thanks for all the hard work you do..Version: 8.2.2

Great APP made even betterI’ve been using Banktivity (iBank) since switching from Microsoft to Apple about 10 years ago. Prior to that had always used Quicken from first release. Quicken for Mac was a joke 10 years ago, so I found iBank. Steep learning curve, but eventually became somewhat comfortable with it. Separate Banktivity ID and Direct Access added confusion, several problems with Direct Access, authentication, etc. With the announcement of Banktivity 8, I thought seriously about looking at what else might be out there. I decided to give 8 a try and am very happy I did. The transition to 8 was surprisingly seamless! Works and looks great on both iPad and iPhone. Unfortunately, some of the negative comments are from people that don’t understand the interface or how to navigate through transactions. Don’t let that discourage you from using this great program..Version: 8.0.1

ImprovedUpgraded from 7 - so far so good. Sync seems improved and "goals" are something that was previously missing. Import was painless. I'd been putting off the upgrade for some time due to concerns about it clobbering my data but nothing bad to report so far. Its also finally one subscription cost, which is far more palatable than a product cost plus online sync cost..Version: 8.3.3

Does what no other program doesI prviously gave Banktivity a mediocre review because of long standing issues with downloading transactions. While that has been fixed currently, it still is fragile as that seems to be the only problem I have had. Now to the good part - envelope budgeting. I finally took the time to learn how to do it and once it is setup, it is by far the best way to know your financial picture month to month. Nothing else comes close! If you have this software and have not taken the time to setup envelope budgeting, I strongly encourage you to do so, you will not regret it, I promise!.Version: 8.7.5

Very good programBanktivity has been consistently improving. At the moment all of my accounts automatically update. Yes there are some banks that consistently put the credit in the debit field, etc. I am not sure why that happens but I have only one of those. (A very little bank, maybe it uses some different software to report.) But all of the others usually work well. There are times where some of the big guys don't report well. Later I find out that it is not Banktivities fault. For the Bank reports that it has had an issue and apologies. Yes, Banktivity could use some better reports. Personal Capital's report system is awesome, I wish Banktivities would be as good. But that said, I can still see exactly how my overall financial health is doing. I can plan out to make sure I will have the funds in the bank to cover expected expenses and the keep other funds aside for emergencies. As others have noticed. There just aren't any other programs available on the Apple Mac os that are any better..Version: 8.5.4

PeteI have just started using Banktivity after switching my computing from Windows to Mac. So far I am impressed and have found no problems..Version: 8.1

Returned to Banktivity—better than everI was an early user of iBank and appreciated the steady improvements as the app became Banktivity. I had to step away from managing finances for a while. I've come back to Banktivity 8 and found the app has become even easier and more reliable than when I left. My favorite improvements are the now-very-helpful Scheduled Transactions feature, and the much improved Direct Access, which does a *much* better job recognizing the obscure abbreviations supplied in bank transaction records..Version: 8.7.5

RecomendedI have been using banktivity for over 10 years and have seen it develop into a very robust system. I like the feature of connecting directly to my bank and the balancing of expense to income. Makes me more confident in my money handling..Version: 8.8.2

The best financial App keeps getting betterAfter being a dedicated Quicken user for many years I switched to Banktivity for my my Mac, iPad, and iPhone. I rely on it to download transactions for all my accounts (credit cards and bank and investment accounts) in the US and overseas, and in multiple currencies. It allows me to easily track cash, monitor my accounts, and prepare taxes for myself and my business. It is easy to use and powerful. I appreciate the many improvements and upgrades in the latest version, and that IGG Software is always investing in response to customer feedback. Their customer support is fabulous, too. If you are serious about managing your money, Banktivity is an essential tool..Version: 8.1.2

Love it - but not quite there yetI have to say the last 12 months have been a journey, however it’s starting to pay off. The App is getting better with each release (however these are still infrequent for a high price subscription) In terms of the iOS App a lot of the elements are too small and the UI is poor an unintuitive at present - functionally it’s excellent, however I’d expect for a cleaner more customisable Home Screen that tells me what I need to know. Use of standard iOS features like widgets for showing budget trackers with quick entry would make life easier. The main part for me is to make the mobile app function as just that, something mobile that works out and about. I need a quick UI to understand how much I’ve got left in an envelope at a glance, and to understand the impact on my goals if I decide to do something. While I have enjoyed over 5 years of Banktivity, and it’s improved a lot, there’s some quality of life items that need to be considered now..Version: 8.3

Years of using this programJust recently upgraded to version 8 free trial. Comes up soon for me too pay subscription which I plan to do happily! Having found out that I can pay subscription then cancel future renewal and still use program the way I do works great for me! I prefer to manually enter data giving a direct way to reconcile that bank isn't in error. Program worth every dime, been using it since before it was named Banktivity and was IBank. Have had no problems migrating data. Only problem I ever had was my error on a date entry that screwed up global find function. Support worked with me and I dound error once they advised me what I was looking for. Connecting to cards and banks seems to be area that some have problems. Since I do neither I cannot comment that area. I have about 30 years of data, I do not archive years, and program runs as fast as always has. I use find function almost like a database. If I buy something say at Home Depot for house I note information in entry comment area. 15 years later I can do an instantaeous global find and retrieve that information if needed. Bottom line I personally love this program and I am thankful every year, especially at tax time, that it has continued being improved and supported! George in NY.Version: 8.8.2

V8 upgrade is ok[Updated to 4 stars and fixed typos. Also: thank you, developers, for your response.] I love both the Mac and the iPhone versions, but the v8 upgrade for iPhone now forces me to scroll past lots of extraneous data just to see my transactions: Summary, Additional Info, Upcoming, Account Balance, Report and Statements — ALL BEFORE I can *finally* see my transactions!!! PLEASE fix this insanity! (I cannot find a setting, if one exists, to change the order.) Also, I didn’t see any prompts for the v7-to-v8 upgrade; only when I was told my bank download subscription is about to expire and I can’t renew it did I start to look into the “why”. Just a one time thing, but could have been smoother… Thanks for an otherwise great product!.Version: 8.7.11

Bien fait et fonctionne bienSe synchronise bien avec Deajadins.Version: 8.1.1

JPeteVery happy with the app. It does what it's supposed to. Thanks..Version: 8.8.2

Solid though took a while to set up SynchI was looking for a solid financial app to replace the old Pocket Money. Took a long time and many apps before I settled on Banktivity. Syncs quickly between iPhone, iPad and Mac, though I found it difficult to set up the synch. Handles multiple splits to include income, transfers and expenses in a single transaction (key for paychecks). Easy transaction entry. Scheduled/ recurring transactions. Easily Organizable accounts - I have a folder for zero balance or old accounts that I use to declutter my account table. Have a folder for spouse, one for kids, etc so I can focus on my accounts while still have family one click away. Reports, budgets, goals - all work as I would expect. I generally use the phone to capture transactions, and iPad while away from my desk (otherwise Mac version to balance checkbook, assess finances just due to larger screen real estate). Yes it is a subscription but pay only once if you like (and do not need bank connection) and that’s it. Renew if you want future features. Pretty fair IMO. I also found the user guide to be current and helpful. Owners web site even includes financial how tos and even webinars on how to get the most out of this software. Lost one star due to a few personal quirks and the difficulty I had to get synch working right (works great)..Version: 8.2.2

Great financial toolI've used Banktivity for years. The recent additions have greatly improved it's usefulness. We track everything and has given us a lot of security in understanding how we are spending our money and allowed us to make changes. Some of our financial institutions don't always play nicely in their sandbox with account information but we've found ways to work around it and their service is always improving making it easier..Version: 8.7.11

Very Good ProgramLong time user of financial software (Quicken and Moneydance). Left Quicken years ago after they quit supporting Macs and converted to Moneydance. Used it for a number of years, but that software is showing its age. Decided to make the switch to Banktivity and am very glad I've done so. Like all software, it has its quirks, but nothing that I've found to be a detriment. Especiallyon the investment side of things, the functionality is miles ahead of Moneydance. I like the interface and definitely like the direct connect to accounts. Much faster connections and downloads than previous software. Also, security price downloads are very good. All in all, glad I made the switch..Version: 8.1.1

Great with basics, lacking for investors and power users. The positive: Great with the basics of what you want in a personal financial management app. Easy to setup accounts for the most part, and easy to use and get going. The "needs work": Investing views are lacking. The app feels more geared toward the old school "balance your check register" days rather than the needs of more sophisticated users who have meaningful investment portfolios and expect robust views and reporting. Reporting is dismally basic. Yes...they have some reports...but I want to create my own views and reports to my tastes. If the developers could spend some time REALLY understanding and learning from the incredibly well done UX is at Personal Capital, this app could t take giant strides. Ideas like the "You Index" and showing me my portfolio autoindexed/compared against the major market indices like the S&P are invaluable...but that's just barely scratching the surface. Finally - the iOS and iPadOS apps are pretty basic and borderline dismal afterthoughts. I'm hoping there's a lot more to come here, but right now...the apps pale compared to the macOS app. The price...I've seen praise and complaints here...I don't mind the price as long as we see consistent iteration and evolution of the UX for Banktivity. What I really want is to see this app evolve strongly in the two dimensions above: investing and reporting..Version: 8.1.3

Stocks not updatingStock prices still don't update fully for Australian stock exchange. Always seems to randomly miss a few stocks.Version: 8.2.2

Top Personal Finance AppThe only app I am aware of that combines very powerful money management and detailed budgeting - with the very helpful envelope budgeting system. Since the envelopes are just an overlay over your normal budget, one can have the best of both budgeting styles. Unlike YNAB and others that force you down a strict envelope/zero budget path - or Moneydance and Moneyspire that offer no envelope budgeting at all. This is also the most fully featured iOS companion app that I am aware of (and I’ve tried a lot!).Version: 8.0.5

Best Available Home Finance AppI've tried many of the home finance apps available for Mac and in my view Banktivity 8 is the best. Version 8 has addressed some of the irritating issues I had with V7 and added some useful new function - though I've yet to see how 'Goals' will work for me. The most important change is that the new subscription includes both the iPhone and iPad apps and these have been dramatically improved and made consistent across the iOS/iPadOS platforms. For me, these iPhone and iPad apps have gone form 'nice-to-haves' to a really useful part of my finance management. The fact that Direct Access and Stock Updates dont work outside the US is really irritating but the Banktivity leadershio have promised in their 'Blog' that this will get fixed. Finally, on the pricing .... the move to a subscription model is ok if we get continuous improvement of the apps. Also, for an app I use at least everyday and rely on to manage all my day-to-day finances, I'm - not happy - but content to pay the price. At least for now!.Version: 8.0.1

Continual Improvement… Essential to MeIn my daily life, I use Banktivity more than any other software. It's become an essential part of my existence, keeping me always up to date on how much I'm spending and how my savings and investments are doing. I've been a customer for more than 10 years, and it's been amazing to watch this software continually improve. Their direct downloads of transactions, and cloud syncing, are awesome, because I'm one who can remember the early days of having to manually enter every transaction. Now all my financial information seamlessly feeds into Banktivity's dashboard on my computer, and syncs between three devices..Version: 8.7.11

Incredible Software!I used Quicken for about a year and become uterly frustrated with their lack of functionality on the mac version and lack of ability to figure out how to reliabily sync with the cloud on the windows version without ruining my data. I did a trial of banktivity and was so impressed with how well thought out the program is and seems to be very reliable so far. I'm giving 5 stars to the mac version however I can't say the same thing for the ios app. It's incredibly simplistic and needs some work make it on par with the mac version.Version: 8.2.2

Would not be without it!Sure there re some problems with direct access but to be honest I think some of these are directly the cause of the banks' not adhering to the rules, particularly here inThailand where one of my banks will not parse any information on transactions made 'today'. Always have to wait until the nextday or do it manually. I would give 5 stars but I am still waiting for the fix/update that allows the auto-selection of currency when looking at, say, a UK bank account then a foreign bank account. Been waiting a l-o-n-g time for that!.Version: 8.7.11

Managing our money just got easierThis is a great app for tracking our finances. For many years I used MS Money... I would end up with a desk covered in receipts that had to be entered. But with Banktivity, I can enter transactions into my phone as I make them, and then they sync to my desktop where I do my reconciliations. I hated when the receipts would pileup, and Banktivity has eliminated that. It's totally worth the cost and the annual fee..Version: 8.8.2

Glad I Have ThisI am enjoying using the latest version of the MacOS app, and the iOS versions are good companions. (I posted this review on the iOS app store and decided to repeat it here.) The subscription model for the iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS apps makes sense. Their business model is not to harvest data. As it goes, if an app or service is free or cheap, it usually means you’re the product not the customer. For an app I use a lot for an important life task (tracking household finances), the cost is reasonable. I have been using iBank / Banktivity for years. It works well, but you need to take time to learn how the app processes data (like any software). Sometimes it will make a wrong guess about a category. Sometimes financial institutions will throw it a curveball when importing data. You need to check when balancing your accounts. Ah life! Still glad I have it. I am happy to see that they are regularly updating their apps, too. Thank you..Version: 8.3.3

Was initially confused. Now glad to upgrade!I have now tried the new Banktivity software and gone to the website. Overall, it seems to be a little more money per year with the benefit of a unified system. I understand the billing system now and they even thought ahead to make sure that the user gets credit for their previous version Direct Access subscription. Overall, good improvements on the previous version. I love that I can use the iPad version with my subscription now. Sweet. Two things that would have made this better. One, some sort of update email or notification that said a new version was coming out and this is how it is going to work, what the changes mean for the user, etc. Two, make the App Store information more clear. I had no idea of the changes and it was very unclear in the App Store what exactly the new version would cost all around. Also, what are the benefits? What are the downsides to upgrading? At least refer everybody to the website so they can get the new information from there. Lesson, if you are unclear like I was, go to their webpage. It explains it very well..Version: 8.0.1

Much improved appThank you for better connectivity and syncing. Thank you too for restoring Direct Access for UK banking - I know that the loss of was not your fault, but it is wonderful to have it back and working again, better than before. I love how well my iPhone and MacBook Pro sync together as I have so many accounts to track. For an app I use daily I am so very pleased with the progress. Please, Direct Access for EU accounts to make the 5 stars. Thank you guys for making my $100 subscription hike worth it!!! Update: my German accounts now update with Direct Access. Thanks for your continuing good work on all fronts..Version: 8.7

Upgrade process should be clearerI run Banktivity solely on an iPad. With 7 months remaining on my Direct Access subscription it was not at all clear how this was to be applied, if at all, to my new Bronze level subscription. I could find nothing in IGG’s FAQ or support articles. After a live chat and emailing several screen shots the process became clear. Hope this helps others: First you must pick a subscription level (I choose Bronze) and complete the App Store payment prompt. This gets you the 30 day free trial and one year subscription. THEN a second App Store payment prompt appears for a “free” extension based on your remaining Direct Access subscription, for me it was 6 months. To recap this resulted in trial + 1 year subscription + extension based on remaining DA = 19 months. All is well now and the new version looks very good. I am subtracting 1 star for the upgrade hassle..Version: 8.0.1
