AudioKit L7 - AUv3 Live Looper for Positive User Reviews

Solid Looper AppReally like the app and the way that it’s being updated. Very easy to get tracks started without overthinking things using L7. Running it as an Auv3 lets you keep the window open for triggering loops, etc. but still manage things within AUM while recording.. a big plus. Effects are also a welcome addition, handy when you need them. At the time of this writing, it’s limited in what you can do with polyrhythms because of the way it provides measures for you to record on 1-32 instead of letting you determine your own lengths for specific tracks; I would like to see both. Also would love to run multiple instances of this as Auv3 instead of being limited to one instance. Again, this is a solid choice for looping and I am excited to see what else will be included down the road from the developer. Thanks, good work!.Version: 1.3

Beautiful thingAfter a few hours with this new looper in stand-alone mode with guitar, I am impressed by the functionality, logic and beauty of it. I instantly came up with new musical ideas, just by trying out the various functions. Hooked up to an AirTurn, I can record, start, stop and overdub without touching the screen. When something sticks, exporting to a DAW via AirDrop is a breeze. Even tempo information is included in the filenames. Audio quality is undistinguishable from the live signal. Will try the L7 live in a band rehearsal soon. What I would like to see in a future update: a visual metronome, more gradual control of the various FX, a toggle MIDI binding for start/stop, so there is just one button occupied on the foot controller, more bindings. Thanks to the developers for swift and kind e-mail responses to my newbie questions!.Version: 1.4

Awesome intro, as expectedSorry, but giving a brand new app that this much thought went into and released for 3 bucks a two star review should get you kicked off the App Store for life. Had a quick poke around. Unbelievable to get this many goodies, a great tutorial, and the promise of great things to come (basically that is a given with all Audiokit apps)... Stellar....Version: 1.01

Fun App, outstanding support.Had to get rid of my hardware looper a few years back and never had the excuse to drop $500 on a new one. For the price I couldn’t pass this up. I had a few problems with bugs because it was v1 but after reaching out to the support team they were able to rush out two separate updates (on the weekend!) which resolved my problem..Version: 1.1

Highly recommendedThe app is intuitive, straight forward, no fuss and delivers much like the app developers. With 16 channels of looping audio to play around with? the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. The effects are more than capable and the ,'auto tune', function is easily worth the price of the app itself. Within less than a week of its release there had been two updates. Brilliant feedback. Edit. It's now Auv3. Awesome.Version: 1.3

I like it.So far so good, learning how to use it is a bit of a curve for me. I have the Boss RC 300 looper. I’m used to mechanical devices verse virtual iPad apps. Love the reverse swipe, so easy. Thanks.Version: 1.2

Latency FixedIts still a bit beta stage but has bags of potential and might actually be a looper app that works. Latency is a deal breaker with a looper so having control of buffer settings is a major plus. At 128 I’m getting stable low latency recordings/playback in realtime with minimal lag. This lets you stay focused on the groove..Version: 1.2

Impressed apart from occasional crashesImpressed on first run. So easy to get ideas captured. App has frozen once and would not re-run without a reinstall (running on 64MB AIR2). This is has now occurred on several occasions requiring a reinstall each time resulting in my dropping a star on my rating. This really needs fixing soon otherwise it will kill what could be a really great looper Increased rating since recent update. Much improved stability and no freezes to date. Loads miles faster also. No problems building an 8 track loop in AUM (L7 running as an effect and switching in some fairly processor heavy synths) on an 64Gb Air2. Icing on the cake would now be separate outputs per track so you could send to your favourite DAW or process further in AUM..Version: 1.31

Lots of looping funFar far improved after the latest update, much better, more stable and reliable, thanks for the aum support...I will use it now.Version: 1.11

Great looperHaving a lot of fun with this. One great feature is export. It exports a zip bundle with a separate WAV file for each track. This makes it a snap to import into a DAW. One request- would be great if you could trim the audio length on the first track..Version: 1.41

Complete crashfest? UpdatedWhen I first downloaded it, it crashed every time I tried to use it. The latest update seems to have fixed that problem, after reinstalling it. So now it looks like being a useful looper - although not quite as versatile as the Boss RC 505 that inspired it. Easy to use, though, and the effects are good..Version: 1.2

Great auv3 looper! This is def my fav looper , it is simple to operate and you can resize the window to have it in your aum session out of the way while you jam but still have it accessible to start / end / edit your loop without distraction. i’ve been using it everyday for a couple weeks now and have been creating some great loops and having fun with it. the interface is pretty strait forward after you figure out a couple things you’ll be using it without even having to think! if you need an auv3 looper, and i know you do, this is the one.Version: 1.31

Overdub buttonI wish there is an overdub button easily accessible per track and a corresponding midi binding, so we don't have to hold on a track to access the overdub. Also overdub that stops when I want it to stop, not at the end of a loop. I want it like this because I prefer to make the next track, the next part of a song. Thanks for the update on midi binding overdub last track. Very useful to me..Version: 1.41

Good jobThe Developer is Quick to the rescue. Fixed the crash in a day. [Old] The app crashes I looked for a support email on your website but didn’t find any... So the one star is just to get your attention. I have an i7 running the latest version of ios (The rating will change after the fix).Version: 1.31

Worked, crashed, won’t reopenEasy to use and whilst playing around with it Looper locked and crashed. Now it won’t reopen. Early days clearly. Update: After reinstalling the app I’ve not had any further crashes. Easy to use and whilst there is room for improvement it offers a lot of promise..Version: 1.01

Good but a few bugs…This app is easy to use and very fun but the only things I thought were strange, are 1. Sometimes it doesn’t record, it just turns green like nothing has been recorded when you press a 2 4 or 8 or 1. 2. If you spotlight a recording and then delete it, the whole thing mutes. Other than that, VERY FUN!.Version: 1.42

I Love the app but it keeps crashing sadlyIt’s good! Only problem is that I have to re-download it again every time it crashes..Version: 1.3

Fantastic tool but essential feature seems to be missing.Maybe it’s just me but I can’t seem to get playback to trigger with the hosts transport controls ( I’m using AUM ). This is fairly crucial I would think and as no one else has mentioned it I wonder if I’m missing a trick?.Version: 1.41

I found it quick to pick up, v good for youngsters? On startup this goes straight into a tutorial how-to that gets you started. All I can say so far, is I realise with guidance, even my very young niece and nephew can get going with this. That puts it light years ahead of some rivals. The ability to start creating music or rap or performance poetry, is a fantastic opportunity for a budding musical type. I did a completely bananas version of ‘cocaine’ and will explore it for more serious musical endeavours but deploying this as a ‘round robin’ game for family to express creativity, is the thing that hits me immediately. A great app, thoughtfully executed, reverb etc are in there which is so convenient. So it has to be five stars from me. Coupled with Apple’s message via text, i sent my ridiculous rip-off of jj cale/clapton’s work to our daughter who got a laugh out of it. All I did was do an impression of every instrument and layered or looped it up, there needs be a more measured attempt from me but that’s for later..Version: 1.41

Review updatedMy first review was pretty harsh. The developer listened and now you can actually contact them. Nice. The metronome function is not as annoying as it now stays off but when you import a sample the darn metronome plays. You cannot just turn it off for everything but not a deal breaker. Would love a mix down or full export feature. Actually merging two tracks would be awesome. Plus reverse would be killer. This is a really good looping app. I am sure there are lots of people who will love and enjoy it. I truly hope they do. On its way!!.Version: 1.11

How do I turn off the click?I don’t see an option to turn off the click. What if I want to loop things that don’t use one? (Update) Developer was quick to respond with an update that added this feature. Now you can loop without a click. Thank you! L.Version: 1.2

Very Promising!Definitely not a one-stop replacement to the RC-505 YET, but very close and with a promise from the developers to include more crucial features (like auto-tempo detection and complete MIDI support, possibly also some of the RC-505 FX I use heavily in my live sets, like Beat Repeat, Lo-Fi, and Vinyl Scratch). There are also some great things L7 does that RC-505 does NOT do, such as the pitch control and harmony FX. It’s not a far cry from the best available software looper, and it’s an excellent start...it’ll still likely be a while before I can actually use it in a professional context, but I’m looking forward to it!.Version: 1.12

... Hourargh!...Ouff!.Version: 1.3

Fantastic Looper! Finally loving the art of looping on the iPad. I love using LoopyHD, but now that L7 is all auv3 compliant i never have to leave AUM, and can get as loopy as i want to. Support and updates for this app have been great. If you need a looper that works in AUM this is the one for you 👊🏼™️💕.Version: 1.31

Finally : a LOOPER for non-loopers !Always thought looping was only for skilled musos but this changed my mind. And my singer wannabe granddaughter loves its ease of use.....Version: 1.41

KoolAs a professional looper I never use the metronome, though the app is pretty good and has a lot of kool stuff I would not use it bc I prefer a more organic loop. I hope they add this option I jam on an RC505, RC202 and RC20XL and I even use The Everyday Looper app for sketching bc it allows the organic switch that I don’t see here, I DCthey added it, it would definitely be a game changer..Version: 1.3

Great features, but early daysI love the features and the layout is very intuitive. I could never get on with Loopy HD - but L7 is so immediate. Some comments and requests It has frozen a couple times and I’ve had to delete and reinstall. AUM please! apparently this is coming Can you make it so it averages the taps when trying to enter tempo? The results jump around so much! And the sliders for some effects could really benefit from XY and not just X. Could we have a XY pad that appears? For example, tremolo depth and speed. Duplicate loop function..Version: 1.01

Great LooperThis is a great looper app. My favorite feature is the midi mapping. I have a foot controller and it works great for starting and stopping loops. One callout, there doesn’t seem to be a way to add tap tempo or mute/solo to the midi mapping which is a bit of a disappointment. Having to reach for the iPad to get the tempo and solo is a misses opportunity in my opinion. Other than that I really enjoy using the app..Version: 1.41

Works as expectedApp was crashing upon recording when first bought, deleted then added back and works fine now on both iPad 6 and 7.Version: 1.3

Top looperIf you’re into building layered loops then you’ll be impressed with this beast:) Only gripe is loop lengths:( will odd loop times be added in future updates?.Version: 1.41

Quick to get goingQuick start tutorial gets you up and running fast. Better reverb than that in Loopy, and overall more effects. My only wish is running multiple instances in AUM..Version: 1.42

Undo buttonPlease.Version: 1.41

The Best iOS Live LooperI love this looper. Deep but still intuitive and easy to use. I use it for live performance consistently..Version: 1.42

Worth the moneyGreat job on the ux. Any possibility to record what you are playing in app?.Version: 1.31

Great looper. Very flexible. Lacks some featuresA great looper app. Things that I would need personally to make it work in detail. ..... Odd beats per measure for odd time signatures. 1 thru 32 inclusive. Loop length in bars needs to include odd lengths. Why have any restrictions on odd / even numbers of bars. Maybe an advanced setting option for this. 1 thru 32 inclusive. Undefined loop length. Just tap to start and stop, as per a normal analogue loop pedal. Not defined by any grid or time structure but instead defined by user. IE; ‘Free - no metronome loop setting. Mute/unmute for whole layer, esp when split out into repeated / pasted parts some of which might be muted on that individual track / layer. Choice of metronome sounds. Easier way to visually turn metronome on / off. Choice of only exporting mixed wav if required, without the separate parts. Also, 16bit export if required. Add tempo to file names on export. Double tempo / half tempo / reverse options..Version: 1.2

Loving It, but...... is there a way to have manual length meters opposed to predefined lengths? The RC-505 is set up so that you don’t have to fit your loops into a particular meter length, which is very liberating and less stressful when recording. With L7, I feel that I need to land on a dime to make it fit into the necessary preselected meter length..Version: 1.2

Awesome updatesL7 keeps on getting better with each update!.Version: 1.2

Recommended Buy .... but....Great job so far! I’d like to request the following updates however: 1. Select the hardware input when using a audio interface (input 2 on my interface is optimized for guitar and bass - app only uses input 1 at this time). 2. Load sessions in sequence during play back without stopping so that when one loop ends the next one starts (this would allow different loops to be arranged in sequence - i.e. verse, chorus, bridge).Version: 1.2

Great practice tool, needs arbitrary measures & metersVery nice practice tool as it's super quick to get going and works well. Just need to allow for flexibility in the number of measures, especially if this is to be a $20 app. At the very least, add a 12-bar choice for blues. Ideally allow the user to enter the number of measures. Meter choice is ok, but how about arbitrary there as well. But as others have said, off to a great start..Version: 1.2

Such a great app to my ArsenalI use my iOS apps along side my hardware and this app, along with the other audio kit stuff, has made it so much fun for on the fly performances. Using my Digitakt midi channels gives me so much much power, using the audio kit synths/looper is like having a room full of amazing synths. Flawless and well engineered apps.Version: 1.42

Great start but needs workLove the app but I have a issue, when I import audio it does not sound correct and sounds altered. I make sure the Bpm is matched before importing . Recording from outside of the app works great and same with vocals just importing Audio hasn’t worked the best so far..Version: 1.12

Awesome appThis is a very handy app and the new update fixed the issues I had. Very good guys thanks for listening to your customers..Version: 1.12

Major Potential! This app is off to a great start. Love the interface and that was BEFORE learning about split screen in AUM....whoa! Massive! The dev is taking feature requests on the Audiobus forum...hit him up!.Version: 1.31

RecommendThis is fun on the move with my travel guitar. Fully recommend. Even better would be: It is hard to end a song cleanly. I would like a button that would stop playing at the End of the current loop. Why can’t we custom define the number measures in our loop?.Version: 1.41

A Totally Insta Buy! Must Have Looper!I’m totally impressed with this awesome looper! Love it in slide mode inside AUM amd wow! Instant loops to record your inspiration without hassle if menus etc! Top noth developers! They listen to users in the AudioBus forum and always willing to update their app! Wow! At this half price sale is a total no brainer! I highly recommend this app! MM4C.Version: 1.31

Can’t use external interfaces properly?Works pretty well, but I can’t find where to select which input is to be recorded or which output to send the audio to. There doesn’t appear to be anything to allow this, it just defaults to mic in and speaker out, or channel 1 in and channel 1 out if I’m using an audio interface..Version: 1.01

Feels like an early access video gameDespite a rocky launch this developer is a G. The Hello Games of iOS development. I have full confidence this will become the rc505 that was so promised.Version: 1.2

I found the track delete or redo. 🤪It’s not intuitive but some functionality seems to be hiding behind the interface..Version: 1.2

It’s a great startI am confused as to why the Audiobus is connected but it’s not sending the audio via the channel? Rather, it seems like it’s recording through the microphone. I get what you are getting. That helps me place it in the workflow! Thank you for the response!.Version: 1.12

High potentialAfter a few minutes of testing I’ve found that this finally ticks a lot of boxes that I’ve wanted! Things that still need improvement: Performance on older devices (UI locks up on iPad Air) Better quality pitch shifting (elastique licensing?) Noise gate for built in microphone input Also, AU support for output effects would be cool.Version: 1.2

It’s great! It’s easy to get lost in a sea of iOS music apps and doing very little creating of music. This has broken that cycle for me. I love it! Please keep up the great work man. Thank you.Version: 1.42

Really great start...Needs beat sensing and ability to have loops that sync at different lengths. I personally don't use a click track when I loop, beat sensing and auto tempo setting is one of the beat features of all of the boss pedals..Version: 1.42

Great app. Midi learn would make it perfect!Hi all This app is great loops perfectly in time with ableton, great effects and interface. I would LOVE to see the midi implementation taken further so you could control levels and effects with an external controller. Midi learn would be perfect! Please please please! Update: Unfortunately the ability to control volume, filter, delay levels etc via midi (preferably midi learn) is still missing..Version: 1.4

BrilliantI saw a guy on you tube called Dan Baker demonstrating this app. For £2.99 I thought I’d give it a go. It’s amazing..Version: 1.41

Pretty Good but small glitchesI do a lot of live looping and have synced this to AUM clock and other gear being used. MIDI mapping is useful for fx changes and transport buttons work well for stopping, starting, recording etc. My only real complaint is the midi mapping causes crashes. For example I have two loops running and sliders of a midi controller mapped to the tremolo effect and the comb filter. If I try and change two parameters or more at the same time it often (not every time) causes a crash. If this was fixed it would be a fantastic tool. I use a work around where I use external effects after the looper in the chain..Version: 1.42

Updating to five starsPreviously I'd given this four stars, but seeing how fast the dev is to get relevant updates out makes me quite pleased. And the addition of reverse which I asked for? Amazing. If you're into sound design, don't let the simple idea of this app make you underestimate it. You can certainly do field recordings with your mic and get some interesting results.Version: 1.2
